5 Years of LOVEppears

LOVEppears came out 5 years ago today! Can you believe it has been that long?
So let's hear some stories. Was anyone a fan when LOVEppears came out? Any interesting LOVEppears stories (you know you have one)?
I became a fan the week after LOVEppears came out, so it was my favorite album for a very long time (until Duty came out). I think my favorite tracks are Fly high and End roll. How about you?

Zesty 10th November 2004 08:52 PM

LOVEppears was my very first ayu album.
I love it, I heard End roll and immediately talked my mom into buying this naked woman on a 2 cd case.

I love every song on it, except 1....

......... here it comes, wait for it....

...almost....

...Trauma.

DarkAyumi 10th November 2004 08:58 PM

Ha Ha, really? I love Trauma! It's so classic. The thing I remember most about Loveppears is the song Appears; I wasn't an Ayumi fan back then but that song's probably still my favorite out of all of hers.

p3ayu 10th November 2004 10:31 PM

LOVEppears was the 3rd ayu cd i got. i will always remember the mini-poster it came with that said hamamsaki ^^ but my fave song is probably whatever (if only it weren't so long!) i wish they would have put the j version on the cd too, for that would have been awsome.

Coelacanth 10th November 2004 10:54 PM

LOL wow I cannot believe it. The songs sound like they are older than 5 years though. LOVEppears is so excellent! My favorite tracks are 'And Then', 'Immature', 'End roll', and 'Boys & Girls'...

tl1029530921 10th November 2004 11:06 PM

..i can't stand Trauma either..sounds so corny..:-P

not a huge fan of LOVEppears, although it did have some cool sounds

ImpactBreaker 10th November 2004 11:16 PM

Wow so old!! I can't believe I was still in High school when LOVEppears was released :eek

Qt Mashi 10th November 2004 11:29 PM

i neva new ayumi until I am...
that means i was in yr 5when loveppears was out
damn i should of known her back then

gogirlanime 10th November 2004 11:31 PM

LOVEppears is a CLASSIC Ayu album, one of her best in my opinion! It includes some songs that Jpop could never make again, such as WHATEVER, Who..., Trauma, P.S II, and appears. I can't believe it's been 5 years O__O wow... I'll have to celebrate with some chocolate haha!

Coelacanth 10th November 2004 11:52 PM

I was only 9 years old... o_O

I'm going to listen to the whole album to celebrate! :D

~K+ 10th November 2004 11:56 PM

Yup, I've got one. I became a fan pretty much around the time LOVEppears came out, it's still my favourite album from her.

I was in Hong Kong around the time of release and I remember seeing the poster and CD everywhere, although I didn't know who she was, but the impression stuck, and I thought it reminded me of Madonna at the time. Then I saw the "appears" PV on a Music Program late at night and I thought both the song and PV was amazing, then it showed the album it was from, and there was the LOVEppears cover, so I'm like "Oh! I remember seeing that."

I also saw the "appears" single in stores and thought, "Huh? She's black on this one..." I didn't buy it because I still didn't know who she was, and have regretted it for 4 years, but I have the single now.

Anyway, I found out who she was when I went back to Australia, and couldn't wait to get the CD, I asked someone from HK to get it for me along with A song for XX and A Clips VCD at the same time. I saw the LOVEppears CD in stores over here and couldn't resist the wait, because I DLed a few songs and they all sounded awesome. When I heard it for the first time I was blown away because every song was good and most of them were very good. I was equally blown away when I first saw A Clips because the clips were just fantastic.

That's sorta it...favourite tracks? Too many to list.
appears, monochrome, End roll, Who..., immature, too late, P.S II.

Wow, I was 14!

Jennie Mae 11th November 2004 12:45 AM

So weird to think... I was 14, in my freshman year of high school... freaky, it seems like 10 years ago...
I used to take LOVEppears with me everywhere I went, and my friends thought it was really freaky that I was carrying around this huge CD with a naked lady on it. Then I learned my lesson when the case cracked right across Ayu's face! Now it NEVER leaves my room.
I adore the second CD, especially the first track (yaay!) . And the HAL's FRIEND II and the POWDER SNOW are so nice...

Aldonia 11th November 2004 02:21 AM

I don't really have any interesting stories to tell about LOVEppears, I just have to say it's one of my favorite albums and has wonderful songs that still sound good today. Five years ago I would've been in fourth grade. o_o;; Oh my..

lolo66 11th November 2004 07:05 AM

This album has definitely stand the test of time in my book.

M_aria 11th November 2004 07:19 AM

The LOVEppears album cover was one of the first images of I Ayu I saw, this was before I really became a fan of hers (that didn't happen till "I am..."). I remember being all like "Oh my God! She's topless!"

TeamAyu 11th November 2004 07:21 AM

Yeah I don't have an interesting story either as I was born into the I am... era. But it is a really good album, not as good as Duty but damn solid. I didn't think there was enough variety though but like others have said it sounds a lot older than 5 years. Definitely some of my favorite Ayu songs of all time are on there though like her classics 'Boys&Girls', 'Who...', 'too late'. Such amazing songs, I absolutely hate the cover though and the appears cover, it's just so creepy hahaha. The old days definitely did not have the best photoshoots...

Larisa-chan 11th November 2004 07:22 AM

hmm... 5 years ago I was 15 and a sophomore in high school... I think at that time I was obsessing over anime music ^.^

~K+ 11th November 2004 08:21 AM

She looked so much better back then ;_;

Maximus 11th November 2004 08:31 AM

Like mot, I wasnt into Ayu. I knew who she was, but I wasn't intrested. I think the song that got me into her was RAINBOW, sad eh lol? I liked the PV XD

kournikova 11th November 2004 11:13 AM

wew... its my 7th cds... loveppears is not soooo good for me... for me... duty is the best

extepan 11th November 2004 11:35 AM

i didnt listen to ayu at that time...i started listening to her in 2001 when ayu trance came out. i love trance music so i tried it. and i was hooked. but i didnt start seriously liking ayu until & came out though

loveppears...it stands out as the album which made ayu famous, and non-fans would attribute the success to her naked cover.

lovia 11th November 2004 03:47 PM

hahahaha i was already a big ayu fan at that time.. but that was the first cd i bought from her... i was so hooked onto End Roll, when the first time i heard it, it breaks my heart, and when i read the lyrics it breaks my heart even more :( and then i was hooked onto And Then, WHATEVER, and monochrome... IMO LOVEppears was ayu's best album and yah it was at that time when she was crown the Queen of Millenium (that was what i read in the english newspaper here :) ) and yah.. it was at that time that many pple get to know her (at least in Singapore, i think so :D )...
and i was so hooked onto this cd that i play it 24/7 for about a year :cool

natalaxie 12th November 2004 03:07 AM

i just bought the loveppears album, and i liked it a lot. especially with the poster that came with the cd. it is a must buy!!

~K+ 22nd November 2004 11:30 AM

Notice the poster says "Hamamsaki"? ;)

CREATE 23rd November 2004 01:45 PM

WOW! Happy 5th Birthday LOVEppears!
i bought LOVEppears in my birthday this year and it's definitely the BEST ayu album EVER, i love almost every song in the album

well

not exactly 'every' song

i just never liked 'Trauma' [maybe because i heard it too many times that i got bored with it] & LOVE !~refrain~ [it ruins the whole 'LOVE' thing! the song became almost meaningless...]
despite those songs, i LOVE LOVEppears very very much and i couldn't believe it's FIVE years already!!! *tears*

i hope the next album 'MY STORY' wil grow as another ayu's legendary album, like LOVEppears did five years ago [until now]

happy 5th birthday LOVEppears!!!

i thought it was only my version that got the wrong typing

i'm so glad that everyone have the 'hamamsaki' version,
that means i'm not alone...

Delirium-Zer0 23rd November 2004 06:20 PM

Create: that poster's kind of notorious actually. Not every version of the album had one (mine doesn't, i got it from yesasia in december 2000). I want one so bad too XD it's really collectible, take good care of it :P

LOVEppears was the first original ayu album i got, i remember being amazed at how pretty the packaging was and how much better it sounded on CD than on MP3. I became a fan just after the ayu-mi-x II series came out, so you could say that LOVEppears was the era when I became a fan. AYUppears was the ayu site I went to most, followed by that era's Ayumi Hamasaki Sekai (the brown site, remember that?). I later started going to Ayu-fan which later became ClubAyu.com. I got mp3s from oshima mp3 and Napster. Man, i feel old XD

First ayu song I ever heard was "TO BE" and it's still a favorite. I was just getting into japanese music, but was more into chinese music at the time (Faye Wong was my favorite singer in the whole world ever, still a close 2nd to Ayu i think).

I've been a crazy huge ayu fan for 4 1/2 years. That's pretty cool. I don't usually hold onto obsessions this long. :P

walking proud 23rd November 2004 07:06 PM

hamamsaki XD that's rare? it's on mine

007_kenshin 23rd November 2004 07:27 PM

LOVEppears is very good.
TO BE is still one of my faves and all of the other songs also, Who is such a good song also...

Plus the CD+2, a good price

yes sir definitely!

i had the poster STICKING on the wall in my room
she [the poster] is the first thing you see when you walk into my room

and i'm SURE i'll take good care of it!
because it's...uh...notorious :P

extepan 24th November 2004 11:45 AM

oooo i never noticed the poster said hamamsaki!!!!!
it is on my poster too!!
i just bought it 2 weeks ago so i could be excused for not noticing :)

~K+ 24th November 2004 12:00 PM

I got mine in April 2000, but didn't realise there was a mini-poster inside until like several months later. o_O'

Arr, AYUppears was first BBS I visited regularly too now that you've reminded me. :D

Bishoujo Ayumi 24th November 2004 09:57 PM

Wow..I was 12 when LOVEppears came out, and I was in the 6th Grade. That WAS a long time ago.

I think it's weird Ayu didn't wait a year in 1999 for another Album. She released A song for XX in January 1999, and LOVEppears in November 1999. Which is so weird because the style on both albums is so different, it's like a complete turn around.

My favorite songs from LOVEppears: WHATEVER, End Roll and TO BE

There are so many new ayu fans now, and alot of the older fans aren't fans anymore or their sites have died or they're not that active... i'm glad people like K and Kakeru are still around (Kakeru's lyrics site is one of the first ones I went to back in 2000 as well)

Yeah, Kakeru's site was the first one I went to... I still go to it, even though it's not updated as much.

Oh well, I got over A Ballads' cover and bought it...

You don't buy CDs because you don't like the Cover?

:thud

I'm not one to judge..really! I just find it strange that someone wouldn't buy a CD because they don't like the cover. I thought it was about the music..but oh well. To each their own *shrug*

LOL in my opinion I think that LOVEppears and A Ballads have WONDERFUL covers ^_~ XD :luv2 :luv2 :love :love :luv2 :luv2

extepan 29th November 2004 07:25 AM

ok the cover of loveppears can be better....her skin looks way too dark!

greggerz189 29th November 2004 04:12 PM

I think ur thinking of her 'appears' single....she's really LIGHT on the LOVEppears cover....

hanabiwings 30th November 2004 05:06 AM

Yes, I have many, many stories about LOVEppears and learning about Hamasaki Ayumi. I learned about her just as this was being released. I was obsessed with her olderstuff from A SONG FOR XX for quite some time, but LOVEppears was so balanced and all the songs seemed like singles. Actually, I think that it was one of the best albums of all time. It still is. It is the album that cemented Ayu's place at the top and the album that made it possible for her to be so. I am so happy at the fact that I have been Ayu's fan for about 4 years. ^^ And she's still popular, so that's great.

hanabiwings 30th November 2004 05:07 AM

Oh, favourite songs AND THEN, end roll, WHATEVER (H/\L's 2000 mix), Boys & Girls Least favourite: too late

No, it's just kind of an awkward cover. The CD itself sounds wonderful. It's just nakey Ayumi isn't really my thing. I guess I'll just flip the cover around or something...XD
