My question: does ayu smoke?!
if she doesn't then why is her voice so bad live?
i noe u guyz might think that this 'thread' is totally rhetorical n useless..but..i alwayz wonder..if she smokes or not..

yes, she does. I personally feel that it has taken a toll on her voice (in addition to the way she used to sing, I'm surprised she's still even able to sing at all)

I agree, it has taken its toll on her voice. Look at how much she sings, that has to add to it, especially with all the tours she does every year.

if she smokes it might just be occasionally. like when she's celebrating or soemthing

there are several reasons that Ayu isn't as good singing live as she does with her studio performances, one being the fact that they edit a lot of the song before putting it on an album/single.

Ayu's more of a casual smoker, meaning she probably smokes like, once or twoce just for the hell of it. I wouldnt consider her a SMOKER

oh yea...the papparazi amazingly HASN'T taken a pic of Ayu smoking...<--I find that astonishing if ayu smokes...

yeah, in the studio it's important to realize they synthesize her voice and edit it to hell. I like lives though. I think she sounds good when you hear her real voice; it's really refreshing to hear someone not lip-synching (although I won't deny that she might sometimes)

Back on topic, yes she does. I think it's a cultural thing over in Japan too, to smoke.

I do'nt see why it's so important. Smoking seems to be big in Japan, as well as here in the US. If Ayu does smoke, she probably doesn't do it all the time since she's always so busy appearing here and there.

I have seen one picture with Ayu holding what looks like a cigarette. The quality of the picture is not good enough to say 100%, but I think it is a cigarette. On the other hand, I have several of globe's concert DVDs. In almost all of the off-shots KEIKO either has a cigarette in her mouth or has a pack of cigarettes nearby. I think if Ayu smokes it is very rarely or else she must have a tremendous amount of self-control to avoid being seen smoking in front of other people.

Look at the gums. If the gums are dark, then that person smokes. And from what I can tell...I think she smokes, but only on her "leisure" time since it's rude for an artist to smoke in public.

The way ur saying it ppl will think it's true. and they'll spread all de way to other places saying ayu do smoke... u know how things works with ppl who likes to add spice to things... future reporters lol. so be responsible to what u say even in forum. Don't say too sure unless ur confirm.

i bet she's a casual smoker every now and then but that sux! i hate it when singers smoke (or when anyone smokes) it just seems so silly to pay for something that does you harm... *shrug*

She probably does occaisonally, it is very popular to smaoke in Japan...i think even more than in the US. She probably isn't like addicted though.

Well there isn't any prove that she does or doesn't. How come some people goes "Yes, she does." when you don't even know her?

I know there was a picture of her smoking, but I think it's a cigar. Not a cigarette. If she does, then I think she smoke occasionally (the only picture of Ayu smoking is a picture of her birthday party).

Anyway, why does it even matter? I think her voice is way softer now and she still sounds great on her performances and concert. I don't even think it has even change. Maybe less squeakier. That's it.

Just because someone doesn't have a picture, doesn't mean you can affirm it or not.

I wouldn't be surprised if she does, then again I wouldn't care as well.

On her My Story Tour one of the extra bits was all about the cast drinking at a restaurant/bar afterwards and everyone cheering Ayumi on while drinking a shot with a glass of drink next to her. They can go ahead and see that if they feel like doubting :O

come on, I think every celebrities does smoke. even Hilary Duff she's such a saint on the TV, she smoke too.

Anyway she do drink sake as she said herself in arena 2005 so there's nothing weird and she doesnt hide abt her drinking ^^. So if she smokes I don't think she'll hide too.

not many people sound JUST like their CD versions... everyone gets their voices edited to some extent... They have special ways of fixing a sharp or flat note... or squeakyness...

I think Ayu's lives now are great! She doesn't have that new sounding voice. Everyone has to admit she sounds ALOT better than she did in her beginning days...

Plus the more you sing the more you rough up your cords... With all her singing she has probably strained ALOT Something similar happened to Celine Dion and she had to take a long break... Ayu has never really taken a break... it seems she pushes past her illnesses... no matter what the cost

Even a talented vocalist like Hikki has sour performances... but she doesn't perform as much as Ayu IMO so there are fewer instances to call

As for smoking... I think if she does it's just occasional... Some people don't have addicted personalities and don't HAVE to smoke like addicted people are. Besides I'm sure she sees that doing it alot makes you smell bad and has alot of negative things that come along with... but it does calm the nevers... To celebs it's probably better to have an occasional smoke (meaning one cigarette) than getting a little tipsy to take the edge off :)

Sum artists smoke so as not to be hungry... u know how the media pushes artist to be always fabulous...

Ayu's high-paced life probably made her find cigarettes as a way to 'let go' for a while. But then again, have we ever seen that side of Ayu? :p She probably does it once in a while.. :p
