Ever been put off buying a CD because of it's cover art?
 

Just curious if anyone here has been put off buying a JPop CD because it's cover art is horrible. lol. I wasn't until recently two albums I've been looking forward too:

Ai Otsuka - LOVE JAM and,
Ken Hirai - Sentimental Lovers

The cover arts are just plain awful in my honest opinion and I really don't want the albums so instead I'm just gonna buy the albums corresponding singles. x.x;
Although....I might still buy LOVE JAM as Ai Otsuka's voice is so infectious. Lol.

Me too. I really want to buy LJ but every time I'm about to I just think of the ugly cover.

LOVEppears has sort of..erm, interesting cover art, but if I see it in LA I'll probably buy it...

Not so much of the cover but of the inside art. I saw pictures of the booklet once, and let's just say that was enough to make me not to want the album anymore. If Kuu has to resort to such marketing tactics, then power to her, but I won't be supporting her as much as I used to anymore.

The cover for "LOVE JAM" does freak me out, although I might buy it. But only after I get "daisuki da yo.", I prefer that single over the album.

Lol. After hearing comments on Kuu's 'feel my mind' inside art I'm scared about buying it now. xD

Yes, that cover is horrible, so are the other three. Not to mention the tracks on it... ;)

koda kumi - girls slefish: the cover was just weird. I didn't like the expression on ku's face and i dislike the fur (I am a animal lover).
Ayu - My story: The make up is too pink and the outfit looks like shes modeling for lingerie...im actually embarrased buying this album due to its cover.

Actually, the covers for "My Story" aren't all that bad, just the thick make-up, especially that lipstick. =X

I don't mind sexy but in my opinion, Kuu has crossed the line between sexy and skanky, especially of late. Akurei will probably kill me for this but that's how I see it.

Yes......Koda Kumi's "COME WITH ME" single. But in the end I was also put off by the music. I was originally interested in the English versions of 'real Emotion' and '1000 no kotoba'. But in the end I didn't like the English versions and didn't like 'COME WITH ME' at all neither...so yeah.

I think with MY STORY, it's her complexion that is more of a problem than the lipstick...red/dark pink lipstick only works on very very fair skin and she has a sort of bronze look on that cover...

I actually bought "COME WITH ME", now I really regret it. At least the cover's a lot tamer than some of her recent work, though. =X

But I still say don't judge a book by its cover. With Kuu, though, her music's not exactly of a very high quality, so yeah. =X

UTADA's ALBUM and Single!!! "THE HORROR!!!!" is the worst.. that made me change my mind about buying the album and the songs are even worse....

ayu's cover is classy and sexy.. i have no problem with that, i always wanted and more "sexy ayu" than the "cute ayu"... cute was getting tired! :P

What is Kuu doing... >_< I'm still gonna buy it otherwise I wont have a complete collection I'll just avoid looking at the booklet but hey...hey skanky-ness must've did the job. Girls ~Selfish~ did get No.1 afterall. x.x

I'll never forget a review I read at Yesasia stating the person in question had put the A Ballads CD in a different CD case so he/she wouldn't have to look at the cover.

Pity.

WEird. I liked the A Ballads cover and I'm not a lezzie.

Didn't care much for the Memorial Address cover. Or the Duty cover. Or the I am... cover. But then again I bought most of those cause they were kick ass albums.

Luna Sea covers are all plain and their earlier works have eerie covers; but their music is great~ There are only 1 or 2 covers with their faces there and even so, they don't look super gorgeous of what to make you buy their cd.

But well, if we can be less superficial and look more to the inside of the talents or what these artists hold then we do not need fanciful covers. I believe real artists would want people to buy their cd because of their music rather than their fanciful look on the covers.

Edit: Just realise I didn't really answer the topic. Yeah I've been put off buying a cd because of it's unattractive cover but those times were when I was younger and support artists only because of looks. Now, if the music is really worthed, then I wouldn't mind less attractive or plain covers

A Ballads was my first Ayu CD.
I have to admit i was pretty embarrased buying and my mom looked at me in this weird way.

Nah. I care more about the music than the cover. XP

The first hitomi song that caught my attention was WISH, so I have to buy thermo plastic!! :D

Yeah..I know..we're just saying though...the ugliness of a cover has made us forget the quality of music and made us think "Ugh...no...don't want it. x_x". I mean...I'm still buying LOVE JAM 'cos the music is great but I'll just never ever bring myself to look at it's cover for more than a milisecond. O_o

Um, just get SELF PORTRAIT and thermo plastic if you want it for WISH then, instead of having to buy a load of singles seperately. SELF PORTRAIT pretty much sums up all her good singles. And she's got 'TIARTROP FLES' if you want her B-sides that much.

But anyway, 'flow' is worth getting as a single, you can't get the original version of the song in any albums. I love the song myself.

'there is...' and 'taion' are really good single songs IMO, but they're already in 'thermo plastic'.

MARIA, IS IT YOU? & innocence are great songs too.
