she does hella commercials, and holds a lot of lives/tv appearances. i'd say she's pretty popular. i heard she's not that popular in korea though

She's big in Korea

She's pretty famous over there. She sells decently and people know who she is. She does promotional work for companies on various products.

i guess that not everyone likes her...as the people i asked don't.

When I was in Japan, on New Year's Eve I was talking to these guys about music. They said BoA isn't really that popular. I mean she's not at the bottom by any means, but she's really fading.

She's very famous but not no. 1, e hyori is no.1 for the female stars there, but in korea its mostly about the boybands, Dong Bang Shin Ki, Shinhwa,
Fly to the Sky, GOD and b4 with HOT.

at times she can be really popular (ie: w/DO THE MOTION or w/VALENTI) but at times she can be okay (ie: make a secret) so i picked 'popular'

Who really knows unless they live in Japan and interate with people who are into music....

I really don't know, like with us, it's pretty biased...I used to think she was really popular until i saw the singles sales a couple weeks ago...so i'm kinda doubting that now..

her popularity ranged from really popular to okay, changes from time to time. i think she's been just at the 'okay' level lately because of the recent singles (though everlasting is performing better than the 2 prev singles in the oricon charts). But she herself (not her songs) is popular in japan, and i think she is pretty well-liked in general, unlike ayumi who is a love-her-hate-her personality lately. actually in korea, she was the highest-selling solo female artist last year, so she is quite popular in korea as well, though not as well-liked in general as compared to in japan

I heard that BoA is like the Ayu of korea...they love her there and she always tops the charts with her albums/singles...She's like No. 1 in Korea.

^ Not true. Plus, number 1 artist is Lee Soo Young, she outsold BoA in sales in 2004 and in 2005.

And I don't agree you must live in Japan to know how popular BoA is.

But yes, from what I seen, she is very popular: her albums sells strongly and her tours are in the same venues as Ayu [but Ayu is more popular than Boa, obviously] and it's always sold-out and she does lots and lots of advertisements. Her single sales are nothing special though.

not really ayu of korea. but if u look at her popularity it mite be considered 'ayu of korea' cos its either a 'hate her or love her' popularity.some koreans dont like her cos they feel she 'betrayed' them by spending most of her time in japan

I guess she isn't No.1 in Korea, but I do think she seems like an Icon, regardless. With all the photoshoots and TV-CMs and stuff....

i think shes popular but not too much. Ayu and Kumi have kinda beaten her down. im pretty sure her new album will make her really popular again like in the Valenti era.

I think she's quite popular. She's been to Kouhaku about 4 times, which isn't bad, same as Shimatani Hitomi and Mika. Ayu's been about 7, but I'm not sure who's been around longer.

I think Ayu's been around longest out of those you mentioned.

I'd say really popular. Possibly the 5th or 6th best in Japan. He music is very appealing but like yall have said there are others.

I would say she is "Okay". Her sales really aren't that great compared to others and I've never really seen/heard much about BoA when I've been in Japan. I think it's only because of Avex's great promotion abilities that she is able to be on as many tv/music shows that she is.

I said she's "okay" because that irl passed her peak in the Japanese music scene years ago. I saw her ad on the train the other day, but she just isn't selling like she used to.

She's the "really popular" but she's definitely "popular". That's why she sells well even though there's an obvious drop in her sales. Ayu's sells have dropped drastically, but she's still extremely popular. Well, it's the same for BoA except she's not extremely popular, but just popular.

Well, I guess you would say that Ayu is not popular anymore too?
