Your Opinion to STEP you PV ^_^?

Heya all~

now, that many of youalready watched STEP you PV ;), let us know your opinions about this PV, I still have to watch it, so my opinion comes a bit later ^^;;

:luv2

elepop 18th April 2005 11:06 PM

I must say, I love this PV! It may not be her best one, but it still rock. Better than I expected it. I'm kinda glad she isn't dancing on this PV. I think she looks gorgeous as the 5 different Ayus. There's a serious Ayu (black), the cute and classy Ayu (green), the shy, timid, innocent Ayu (white), and the sexy Ayu (red). I love the theme!

I rate: 8.5/10

Cyria 18th April 2005 11:10 PM

It's awesome! I haven't loved a PV this much since Moments. I love how each version of Ayu doesn't just look but also acts differently. One moment she's playful and having fun, the next a shy girl, then a confident lady in black...

I am so happy with this PV!

~mapi~ 18th April 2005 11:17 PM

Until now I really hated the song, but after watching the PV I must say I LOVE THE SONG AND THE PV. I think the PV is not that good but ayu acts well and looks very pretty this time. :yes
Dunno but the song fits the pv so well, and it's very catchy.
Now i want the single badly!! :P
My fav ayus are the timid one (white dress) and the cute one (the green dress) :)

acimahs 18th April 2005 11:25 PM

3 words I LOVE IT

JimmyKoria 18th April 2005 11:27 PM

I enjoyed it and its symbolism.

minkAYuko 18th April 2005 11:37 PM

I love this PV so much!!!!! i mean! it can't get any better 5 ayu's in one PV! IT's AWESOME!!!!! and i say 5 cause the last ayu in the rain is like the 4 of them together XD

and the song getts better and better!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE IT!!!!

Love Appears 18th April 2005 11:42 PM

For some reason, the setting reminds me of Wizard of Oz. Maybe the whole tin-man thing, heh. I really like this PV. It's dark and fun at the same time. I would have edited takes a little differently to coordinate a little better with the music.

I thought rain-soaked Ayu would play more of a role in the video - why is she there, how did she get there, etc.? ourselves and BoY were a little more obvious as far as direction and meaning. But for what it is, it's one of her best PVs artistically.

LX Ayu 18th April 2005 11:55 PM

k she's hot in white dress and in end in the rain

symbolism? teh fux? please go make your critical analysis and make "progress" of your assumptions on a video you have no control over nor any contact info with the creator of the video

the video over all was fine but nothing to kekeke over. the whole dark sky setting with monotoned colors for background and bright colors for different character(s) is old now, she uses that technique too much and if its not her decision its her producers but whatever sells right? makes people like on this forum think about meaning of it and entertainment

oh well, no akara for you

makie_7 18th April 2005 11:56 PM

I really like it too!! it's one of her best pv

CT_Cool 19th April 2005 12:02 AM

Love it the bits :D I think the pv well thought out and it matches the song. There that walking in the beginning with the shoes, Step you and 4 ayus for 1,2,3,4 :). Other then that it quite cool. Should be doing my english / ict work but just keep watching this pv instead :rolleyes

Corybobory 19th April 2005 12:28 AM

It's a winner! lol. I love it. The video reminds me of appears crossed with Shiina Ringo's Gipps.

Surreal 19th April 2005 12:36 AM

I love it.

LX Ayu : Chill.

Coelacanth 19th April 2005 12:41 AM

Well... I'm satisfied. :)

y2687 19th April 2005 01:02 AM

The game reminded me of something out of Myst or Riven O_o

PsyGen 19th April 2005 01:05 AM

Even though I don't like the song, I really liked the PV.

kristen 19th April 2005 01:07 AM

I liked it.

But i agree with LX Ayu :)

Echiko 19th April 2005 01:07 AM

Like all has mentioned before, I love how she incorporated the different personality ayus in. ^_^ It was very well made! THe graphics were really cool. I wonder did she have to do alot on a blue screen? hehe. The dark scenerio is alittle overdone..but Ayu acting along with the personality was really good!! The costumes DEFINETLY did alot. =D Although it lacks symbolism (besides the different sides of ayu..what else is there? Maybe didn't catch it...), I think it's nice overall. ^_^ VERY awesome.

Does others think that ayu in the end (in the rain) is the combined version of all the personalities? =P

tl1029530921 19th April 2005 01:10 AM

..i like the 1st ayu..shes like..ditsy..haha.

..overall..cool video..^^

Corybobory 19th April 2005 01:12 AM

I was wondering... what do you think the directors original idea for this video were? As in... what's this video's story?

When that guy looks into that thing, it's Ayu spinning around, right?

tl1029530921 19th April 2005 01:20 AM

well..there were 4 Ayu's..the 1st one is like..ditsy ayu, the 2nd one is goth-y ayu, the 3rd one is timid ayu, the 4th one is ...sexy ayu?...and later they dissapeared and only the white dress ayu was left..o_o..

Larisa-chan 19th April 2005 01:30 AM

haha she's such a Barbie Doll in this PV~

This PV has lots of style going for it, which was really neat. But no substance. No symbolism, so don't bother looking for it ^.^* That guy reminded me of the Tin Man too. I am SO GLAD she didn't dance in this PV. Her acting was pretty cute. I think she needs to find a new director, though, for her PVs. WAY too many recycled elements. The way he films all his PVs is sooo repetitive. How many times has he used that spinning circle? Ourselves, Because of You, and now Step You =/ =\ Didn't he also use the same gray background in BoY? Meh... I enjoyed this PV, but I don't think I'll watch it more than a couple times.

Love Appears 19th April 2005 01:33 AM

Okay, I'm probably just slow, but I just noticed this:

The different Ayus appear as the man turns the dial. For example, he turns it to I at the beginning, and it's just Ayu in the green dress. Then he turns it to II, and the Ayu in black appears, III and Ayu in white, etc. Until all four of them are there. That makes the PV much more interesting and symbolic, I think.

I believe the PV is about someone seeing into the different aspects of her personality. Although the lyrics don't quite fit. Hmm.

y2687 19th April 2005 01:35 AM

The lyrics don't always fit with her PVs tho ;)

truehappiness 19th April 2005 01:37 AM

Actually, this PV might be about how all the people perceive Ayu to be different 'things' but she's actually every one of those things in one SuperAyu with a hat. lol

It rocked. Crap. I love this PV. [Where's that Wataru Takeishi director? >(]

Although.. I wonder who the guy is.. is it the one from my name's WOMEN? :o

ll moments ll 19th April 2005 01:46 AM

i love the 4 different types of ayus. i thought that was really cute!
i love ayu II. lol. and i like the whole theme to it as well. :]

i'm getting used to the song now. i guess it's grown on me.

Love Appears 19th April 2005 02:01 AM

More speculation:

The tin-clad man is, her boyfriend.

The first Ayu he sees is the part of her that makes the first impression, because that's how he first saw her when he looked in at her, without turning any dials.

After while, he "wanted" to see more, thus allowing a darker, more somber side of her to come through. It's not quite clear what the black symbolises here. Perhaps a darker side of the relationship, or possibly obstacles/arguments/sadness. Or it just could be her serious side.

At this point he knows of the Ayu he first saw, and her dark side. But soon discovers, upon turning her switch, that there's even more to her. The white could symbolise innocence, or just a sweet- angelic like quality. Perhaps the childlike side of her.

I believe the fourth Ayu is last revealed because it reflects a more personal side of her - her sexuality. That's just how I interpret it, anyway. She has apparently opened up to him at this point and is truly comfortable and happy with this aspect - note the look on her face.

And again, as mentioned, the scene in which she lies on the numbers in the rain is symbolic of the "complete" Ayumi Hamasaki, after she has revealed all her sides.

So basically, I think it's a personal/relationship thing.

The director for Ourselves and Because of You are the same , but NOT STEP you.. the director for STEP you is the same as the Moments and INSPIRE one. I didnt like his previous videos, but I was pretty impressed with this one. And the their are so many spinning circles in ayu's PVs...theres even a "SPINNING" merry go round... But overall I thought it was an interesting PV that had a different theme which was quite original. This director does use his similar efects like his flashing out scene changes (VERY obvious in INSPIRE to the point where I start to feel dizzy)

Delirium-Zer0 19th April 2005 02:10 AM

It reminds me of the "ourselves" lyrics, how ayu says she has many faces. This is a big deal for her and against the dark sky and overly mechanical setting, her different sides really come through. LX mentioned that the technique of manipulating colors like this has been done, and it has, but here is where I think it really fits and works perfectly. It's not a creative video, but every part of it fits together correctly. The first ayu's cutesy faces are really jarring after being introduced to such a dark set, but once you've watched the whole video you understand why she did it.

Love Appears, i agree with you on the editing along to the music... alot of ayu's videos have that problem though, particularly those directed by wataru takeishi. The editing is rather rough on those and always has been... is it unfortunate that I'm used to it at this point?

and yvette, you're right about it kinda looking like Myst! As soon as I read that I was like "omg she's right!" lol :)

My feelings on the song? It r0x0rz. I especially like when ayu does pop, but it's dark. Kinda like monochrome, Far away, stuff like that. That's what I think she's best at. As much of a rock fan as I am, i still enjoy songs like STEP you best in the long run.

LOVE Appears..You made a really good connection! I realized that in Moments, the interpretation also includes ayu's relationship with her boyfriend. ^__^ So I think you can be right! And it's the same director. So I think it's VERY possible that you are right! good job! =D

PickleCookies 19th April 2005 02:37 AM

Boring, uncreative, and cliché. Looks too much like a bunch of the latest PVs we've seen lately. And the fact that the song sucks doesn't help much either.

i read the translation lyrics about twice and when it says 1 2 step you just like that... i think shes sayin how to find urself or sumthin... when she says 1 2 3 4 you and me... i think she says lets all show all of our selves

and wehn ther thingy spins really fast and all the roman numerals come together and she is in a green shirt (if i remeber) lying on the numbers showing her true self showin all the 4 sides of her in one... i really agree with him on her symbolism... srry if it sounded confusin...

I just realised the man at one point of the PV spins in the cage thing himself. All 4 sides are him.

gogirlanime 19th April 2005 03:35 AM

It's not her best, but I'm quite impressed with the effort in the PV, especially in the costumes and the graphics. I really like the black Ayu and the red Ayu. She's getting too sexy though, I don't like the guarder with the red dress... makes her look like Agulera. The first minute, the PV didn't seem to suite the song, but it started to move along nicely, it's her best PV since Moments I would say! She totally remindes me of Madonna in this PV. I really like the dark, sexy, and mature look that Ayu has in the black outfit, she should do that look more often! :yes

Catzi 19th April 2005 04:24 AM

It was quiet lovely. Yes, very much so. I really liked the part when each of the four Ayu's say a number; I'm not sure why.

And symbolism? Hm.. I thought it was rather, since each of the four Ayu's are seperated in the cage-y-type thing, that the different sides of her are trapped. But since the robot-type man began to spin the dial, he put her together, and thus we get the rainy-Ayu at the end: the Ayu with all the sides combined. However, Love_Appears seems to have a better explaination.

On a side note, I love those outfits. :luv2

yamogi 19th April 2005 04:26 AM

i think the MV means everyone have four side in their mind , not only ayu have, the man also have.i think the man represents everybody(us) that notice her, and they will different side of ayu.
i think the lyric's"1,2,3,4 step you" means that ayu want to find the other side of herself

~*Mabushii*~ 19th April 2005 04:39 AM

Personally I really love the video. Each of the 4 different Ayu's look awsome in their own way. I really like the super sexy Ayu in red. Not sure why, I don't mind seeing her look all sexy like that at all. It's a change to alot of the cuteyness she tries. I do like the cuteyness she does too though. All of the Ayu's are great in their own way, and together the Ayu in the end is good too. (But I don't like the flowers on the shirt.. but that's just me and my clothing preference hehehe)

I agree alot with what Love Appears said... ^_^v
I can't wait until my CD+DVD gets here.. so I can see this in alot better quality than the WMV.. (since the mpg for some reason seems to crash winamp.. it's the only one that does it.. grrr)

hightea_xx 19th April 2005 04:40 AM

i call "sexy ayu" porn ayu...cuz she has crazy porn hair. i like this pv, better than a lot of her recent ones imo. <333

AyuMayu 19th April 2005 04:42 AM

I love the black Ayu... I also like the part where each Ayu says a number and the fourth (green) Ayu is holding up 4 fingers...

I'm loving this the more I see it.

CaliAyuLuva 19th April 2005 04:44 AM

This PV was wayyyyy cute!!! Im not disappointed at all but Im still not so hot about the song itself

AyumiFanGuy 19th April 2005 04:45 AM

I really liked this PV. I think the direction was shot well and the symbolism was really cool. (Symbolism can be on a personal basis - it doesn't have to be what the director wanted. The point of art is to inspire ideas and thought.) It certainly made up for what the song lacked, in my opinion. The only thing I noticed about the PV that I didn't really like was that her lip-synching to the music for the video was a tad off in some places, specifically with the English words.

All in all, I give this PV a thumbs up. It was much more than what I expected. ^_^

Aldonia 19th April 2005 05:03 AM

I love it! I do NOT think it was cliche, or boring. The outfit changes were interesting, and so was the PV! Bravo! :clapclap

It's when they show the Ayu's in the cage thingy and they go around oposite direction of the way they showed up. (meaning, they start with Red Ayu.. and end on Green Ayu) Red Ayu says 1, White Ayu says 2, Black Ayu says 3, and Green Ayu says 4 while holding up 4 fingers near her face.

They aren't really "saying" it in Ayu's voice.. it's a synthetic voice that goes along in the music that if you don't pay close attention it is easily missed. (I missed it while watching the Minna no Terebi live the first two times I watched it. ^_^; )

evechoco 19th April 2005 05:25 AM

its a totally awesome pv, 4 different ayu, i like the black ayu and the green ayu, i totally love it

*hearT_Place* 19th April 2005 07:45 AM

It does look like something from Myst or Riven!

I wonder if it could be about someone (Ayu) falling in love. The green represents her as happy and almost carefree. The black could be an attempt to be indifferent to any new feelings by being confident and cool. The color black could represent hiding feelings (the color black absorbs all light). The white is represents finally giving in to love and the shy, happy feelings one may feel at the beginning of a romance. I think the white not only represents purity, but also the releasing of those hidden feelings (as white reflects all light). Red is the consumation of that love (I think Love Appears put it really well). I think the color red represents passion.

Maybe the "tin man" looking at the spinny-thing (for lack of a better word) is symbolic of her significant other reflecting on the different sides he has seen of her, while the Ayu lying in the rain is the not only a combination of the four Ayus, but the end result of a path in which all four sides were shown; and she is completely comfortable and happy with herself now. Each of the four colors of the four Ayus is present in some form or another in her outfit at the end, even white and black. If you were painting a picture of Ayu in the rain, you would need to mix white with green and white with red to get the color of her shirt and shoes respectively, and black and green would get the color of her pants.

Okay, bedtime now

kournikova 19th April 2005 08:02 AM

I really like this pv!
I like the four different characters.
This is now one of my fav pv's by her.
It's one of her best pv's compare to recent ones.
And I never knew that the guy is suppose to be her bf.
Tsk... I love the black coloured Ayu, suppose to be the dark side of her? Well, I like that the most. Probably because my favourite colour of clothes is black.

like it!
The first time i watch it, i have not got too much feeling. Then, i do it for the 2nd time and it really rocks! I like the cute ayu the most. And especially when it is at 3:20, the four ayu said one, two, three, four from a synthetic voice!
This one is way better than Humming 7/4 or About You PV.
looking forward to is this love? and my name's women!!!!

Hugo_Perry 19th April 2005 01:14 PM

I really love the director of "ourselves" and "Because of You" because the dark feelin' he always able to give out in Hamasaki Ayumi's PV. Honestly, i'd rather want him to direct the PV of "is this LOVE?" instead or "STEP you". I can see why Hamasaki Ayumi wanted him to direct "STEP you" too because "is this LOVE?" is made first then "STEP you". I guess so. This is a really easy PV because there's nut much space for other thoughts.

I believe that guy is her lover that only get to see many part of her. In the end, they're completed all together in Hamasaki Ayumi singin' in the rain. I guess, everyone know it simply. I dun't think i needna do much tolkin' 'bout it since sumeone already explin it. Plus, i really hate sume poeple comment that this PV is nuffin' much that's because they've look through them once only. You know who you're. So STEP YOU try to see it through a few more times! :o

js_surrealism 19th April 2005 02:00 PM

I don't normally comment on ayu pvs, but this one I thought was greatly worthy of mention. Finally something that makes sense and is aesthetically pleasing, better than anything that was on the My Story DVD (Carols in particular was utter crap). Thumbs all the way up for this one.

i love this pv so much, it was a long time that ayu didn't surprised me !
i love this idea of different ayu, my favourite one is the shy ayu! very cute, i also like the posh ayu in black, it s so funny ! the background is really artisitc, it rocks!
it makes me love this song more !

After watching the video I've come to the conclusion that the song still is not good. I thought maybe, just maybe, I would change my mind. I didn't.

This video looks as if they went back to the 'ourselves' and 'because of you' sets and mixed them together to form this. Its as if Ayu thinks that in order to have a rock video it has to have grossy grungy things in it and be dark.

A guy viewing Ayumi in a grungy setting (because of you)
Spinning on a big platform (because of you)
Using the beats of the song to mix with the video (because of you & ourselves)
The whole "i have many faces" thing (ourselves)

She looks cute in the outfits and her behavior in them, but the video is just so recycled. Ayumi lost her spark with this song and video.

SnowDrop 19th April 2005 04:03 PM

This is such a great PV! It's very entertaining and I really like Ayu's looks in this PV (especially Ayu in the green dress). The idea behind it is simple but it works. All PVs doesn't have to have some kind of super intellegent plot..some times it's just good to make it simple and fun! Go Ayu! :yes

The first impression was pretty good... I guess I gotta watch it trough a couple of times and coment more then... Anyway the song's quite good actually.

I like the idea behind it. (showing different sides of Ayu's personality as other Ayus) But other than that I was quite unimpressed with the PV. It's some what boring because of the fact it just goes back and forth between like three scenes over and over. Plus, I don't know, something just felt missing for some reason.

Still, I do think it's an enjoyable PV to watch if you like the song.

Final Comment: It isn't the best, but it isn't the worst, either.

I can see why Hamasaki Ayumi wanted him to direct "STEP you" too because "is this LOVE?" is made first then "STEP you". I guess so. This is a really easy PV because there's nut much space for other thoughts.

The director for STEP you IS NOT the same director as Because of You & Ourselves. That is Tange Kouki. The director for STEP you is THE SAME as Moments & INSPIRE

I wonder who the director for is this LOVE?

Oh, get off your high horse. Everybody has a right to their opinions, and it's JUST A PV. Nobody claims to actually know her.

People need to chill about the PV

If you were painting a picture of Ayu in the rain, you would need to mix white with green and white with red to get the color of her shirt and shoes respectively, and black and green would get the color of her pants.
Interesting view! :)

and kotora: we are just giving OPINIONS and speculations as to what the PV might mean. None of us said 'hah I KNOW ayu wanted to tell us that there are 4 sides of her!!! i know it!' Chill. I've noticed you've been rather crude in some of the threads here. Don't click on the threads if you know you are going to be unhappy with them.

Gosh i really liked.... i was a loong time without liking a PV this way. Since Free and Easy i mean;

All the kinds of person we are are in there, even beeing the same, sometimes, our personalities do not live one with another, and discovering ourselves is still the biggest adventure.

The Ayu in the rain, for me, means the person wthou any problem inside hir/her soul. Its only life and the moment.

Welll..... loved it

Gee, we are just commenting on a PV. Why wouldn't we make this type of topics?

Besides, nobody ever said that they understand Ayu very well.

Nu-NRG 20th April 2005 12:37 AM

not quite sure what this pv is trying to tell us..

a guy walks with the cane..and stopped because he see a beautiful classy but playful girl(green ayu) but he got bored with her so he moves on with the next one
a more serious girl(black ayu) he can't make up his mind because he see another shy timid girl(white ayu) so he just kinda seeing both of them(two ayu sitting together)
but...he got tired of them as well so he move on to finally a sexy girl(red ayu)
that didn't last long so he slam the door to the girls face but things got worst and spin out of control then all 4 of the girls take their revenge and ...that guy ended up got nothing...
ok that didn't make sense...haha :P

Love the PV, but don't like the song. I like the look of it, the way it was done.

fεяnαndδ 22nd October 2005 11:40 AM

It was... well, it was interesting, to say the least. I kinda liked the style, but I have to say that is this LOVE? was better by far.

RAISKA 22nd October 2005 04:09 PM

I like it as much as I like "is this LOVE?"
