Help!! Framing Ayu Posters?

Has anyone else framed their Ayumi posters? I have several I want to hang up, but I want to frame them first to prevent damage, but my problem is that the posters seem to be a different size than the frames I can find. I think that perhaps the US doesn't carry those frame sizes, so I was curious if anyone knew of any place to get the appropriate sized frames short of taking it to a professional framer??? Is there an online site or anything perhaps???

I would just go to an art store, and have them do it. I'm sure it can be done pretty cheap. I've been wanting to frame some things of mine, and a friend of mine said to just take it to this art store.
I wouldn't take it to Hobby Lobby, though. Maybe Michaels?

Your best bet if you have album and single posters which are B2 size (29 X 20 or which ever way it goes) is if you buy a 24 X 36 frame.I've looked in art stores and never found any that were the perfect side but that doesn't mean they don't exist. Also you could get them custom made but that might actually be expensive. As PickleCookies said, I wouldn't take it to Hobby Lobby because they are expensive to do custom work.

Why not Hobby Lobby...I was just there yesterday and thinking about checking on it. Is Michaels better for that?

Oh, ok, haha, thank you! I'll definitely check at Michaels then, I had never even thought to ask them if they could do custom frames. If not maybe I can get one thats oversized. My posters are mostly odd sizes, like 24.5 inches by something or other else...and no one carries that. Thanks guys!

PickleCookies 1st June 2005 04:03 PM

Yeah, someone told me Hobby Lobby is crap for framing. :laugh
Try Michaels or something. I'm not sure. Maybe you can ask how much it would cost to get a custom frame job? And then compare prices.
Thanks for reminding me to go get my stuff framed. :)

M_aria 11th June 2005 07:03 AM

I have my Ayu posters framed. I didn't get anything fancy, since my main concern was to keep them protected. I guess a bit of advice would be not to get them framed with glass since if it were to break, it could possibly scratch or tear your posters. I think I have the same size that Ayumi626 mentioned (24X36) I got mine at Michael's for like eight dollars each!

lolo66 11th June 2005 10:13 PM

framed? crazy fans haha

but i think you people will take that as a pride

Delirium-Zer0 12th June 2005 12:22 AM

Michaels custom frames are pretty expensive... a US$150 framing job for that size poster is cheap. I worked as a framer there for a LONG time... some locations won't even let you get the cheap normal glass for it. ours didn't. (Take my advice, and this is what I told customers who were trying to save money: get some plexiglass at Home Depot and then do the frame itself at the custom counter at Michaels, and get a thin metal frame, those are the cheapest.) Custom frame jobs were created for people who wanted pictures kept in good shape for years & years (the matting they supply keeps pollution & humidity out of the frame, the wood frames are taped to keep acid from seeping in, and the glass is UV-protected to prevent sun damage. All very expensive)... it isn't meant for people framing posters that are weird sizes. *shrug*

cloudwalking 12th June 2005 09:34 AM

I got a few black plastic poster frames from Wal-Mart ($6 each) and most of the posters fit into them. The ones that were smaller, I had my father cut the clear plastic and the outer frame with his saw and re-construct it. It was really easy.

lolo66 12th June 2005 09:29 PM

^
Envy those with handy people living with them.

Yeah, I asked about custom frames...and the quotes they gave me at Hobby Lobby and the like were OUTRAGEOUS!!!!

PickleCookies 13th June 2005 07:22 AM

Well, nevermind then. O_o

Is she talking about those like...cardboardy things?...cuz those are fun to work with ^^-!!

If I were to frame with those? What would be theb est way? does anyone know?

OffTopic-ish: Do (Ayu's?) posters fade w/ sunlight? ...that's my main reason for not having em framed/tacked on my walls yet..

ayu1m 9th October 2006 09:50 PM

I've framed my posters. There are few stores here that sell so big ones (these are 60x80cm)

http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/4397/pic1az7.jpg

One frame costs around ~$20

ohsixthirty 9th October 2006 09:52 PM

wow, those look wonderful!!!

(and what a trip to see my old thread revived.)

IYFreak 9th October 2006 09:58 PM

crazy :(, but still pretty cheap considersing how much everyone says they are~

I've got...4? Ayu posters to hang...X_x; but yet, i still wanna know how the cardboard framing works, because my techer's done in on my art work and it looks really nice

ayu1m 9th October 2006 10:12 PM

I think those frames were pretty cheap, they aren't the best quality you can buy though but they do the job and I'm happy about them :)

immel 9th October 2006 10:23 PM

Where did you get those frames? I've been looking around some but been unable to find those huge ones... maybe I can get those in Sweden aswell?

ayu1m 9th October 2006 10:24 PM

I found those from Kärkkäinen, I doubt you've heard of it :e

immel 9th October 2006 10:28 PM

That's a very Finnish name, lol.

Never heard of them... oh well, I'll have to keep on looking.

It's about time I frame a few of my posters and put up on my walls... I have 4 and with that kind of huge frame they'll sorta cover the free wall spaces of my entire room, lol.

ayu1m 9th October 2006 10:31 PM

Yep, it is :P

I don't know if you've heard of Anttila, it's a quite big department store chain and they have stores all over Finland, maybe in Sweden too, don't know lol, they also sell big frames.

immel 9th October 2006 10:33 PM

Maybe up in northern Sweden, no clue, haven't heard of that one either D: ... Maybe if I have time tomorrow I'll pass by a hobby store to check what they have. If not tomorrow I'll do it the day after.

ayu1m 9th October 2006 10:36 PM

Ou, ok ^^ I'm amazed if there aren't any big frames in Stockholm :D

immel 9th October 2006 10:37 PM

Maybe I'm just a big fat sucker at finding them? :/

I just have to protect my home town!

ayu1m 9th October 2006 10:39 PM

:roflmao

lol you aren't a big fat sucker, you just need to search harder

^^

HiruNoKaze 11th October 2006 12:43 AM

I just went to Michaels and got FIVE poster frames. 24x30, best size for Japanese B2. You get bigger side borders than top and bottom borders, but I think it looks good. They told me all Michaels have the same deals. Go out and get your poster frames! ~$11 with tax. Same value as if you use the weekly 40% off single item Michaels coupon in the LA Times. I dunno if it's ever possible to get more than 40% off poster frames; maybe TH knows. 14th is the last day of the deal.

I'm gonna have awesome Feng Shui...BB + a-nation for yin and the two AT06 posters for yang. Throw in A Best present D for the nostalgic past. Two more poster frames on standby. That's seven total...I don't know if it would be a good idea to buy any more. I could have more posters...but no where to put them up. I'm pretty content, I think these are among the best of the posters. Best for putting on walls. But duuuuude some of those TUKA ones are out of this world...like the B0 ones...<drools uncontrollably> freaking $100 tho...oh oh or the body shot visee ones that are high and narrow. Some of those look sooo good as pics...but probably the aspect ratio isn't the best for walls. Yes, I think this choice of posters works very well for me. I loooove posters...I don't know what's wrong with me lately. Posters are such luxury Ayu items...$65 for four, + $44 for frames, that's about $30 a piece, man... But DAYUM I'd take this over a painting any day. Unless it was a painting of Ayu? Damnit, foiled myself. I wonder how the new posters are gonna turn out. Good posters = drain $$

stardusties 11th October 2006 12:48 AM

haha so the 24x30 frames were 30$?....X_x wew...

lol i was JUST there too xD...but i went for an art project...and i didn't even think about frames ....even the cardboard ones ._.;;;

HiruNoKaze 11th October 2006 01:09 AM

No no the frames are ~$11 each...poster + frame average cost will be ~$30

oh cool! :), could you show me a picture of the ones you got if possible? :)

ayu1m 11th October 2006 01:59 AM

thx evolution7931, I tried my best :P

HiruNoKaze only ~$11 hmph.. that's very cheap, I hope they'd have those prices here too <__<

HiruNoKaze 11th October 2006 02:02 AM

Well as far as I know, Michaels only sells one brand of poster frame. I just got the 24x30. There are random pics on the cover like a saxophone player and a surfer. Says "poster frame cadre d'affiche."

Delirium-Zer0 11th October 2006 03:21 AM

Yeah, those are the only poster frames. Aaron Brothers carry the same ones (them & michaels = same company). But they're not bad. Just kinda hard to get the plastic framey-things back on properly on your first try XD Man, i built frames as my job and I had a hard time with those things, lol!

stardusties 24th November 2006 11:45 PM

omg ^^- i finally got my frames from michaels! (gogo black friday cheapness!!!)
i got 3 22x28 frames from less than 30$!!! (i don'
t know why I didn't just get 20x28.../hmm..)

I'll post them as soon as I frame them ^^-!!!

[edit]
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...medposters.jpg
and voila~ ...hmm I had to fold down the big ones a bit ...and I'm saving my 3rd big one for the Secret poster ^_^! ...but maybe I'll go out and buy a 24x30...for it.....But these things are soo hard to center!

Any tips?

Norrel 25th November 2006 04:19 AM

Those look so awseome! :D

I remember you mentioning that earlier today.

HiruNoKaze 25th November 2006 06:54 AM

Oh noes that's why I didn't get the 22x28, they're just short. I regret having bought one of those things, now it's useless. I decided I wanted to preserve the things for longer than a few years so you can see my pics in the post your collection thread.

http://www.ahsforum.com/forum/showpo...&postcount=424

Thing is, those poster frames are not acidfree, not UV protected, and the poster hugs the plastic. After Deli told me, I was like...uuuuughhhh I want to be able to admire them even when I'm an old man, time to invest in frames built to protect. I really enjoyed having my BB poster in one of those frames while I was using it though.

stardusties 25th November 2006 01:25 PM

So what exactly did you do?, Did you make them yourself o_o I was reading your post @ the other thread and it's a bit confusing x3~ (seems like you wanted to get it off your chest in one quick rant:laugh)

and what exactly is bad about the non-acid free/non-UV protected ones?

immel 25th November 2006 09:13 PM

stardusties, the CDL0405 poster looks way awesome.

Gorgeous collection.

stardusties 26th November 2006 11:28 PM

thanks :)..but it's such an awkward poster....where would i put it? ><

immel 26th November 2006 11:30 PM

A great place would be right over my computer monitor.

Apart from that, I'm not really sure :/.

HiruNoKaze 27th November 2006 12:24 AM

So I bought the glass and the frame part. And all the foam board. I cut the foam board myself and it just put it all together. It just took a bit of ingenuity and a lot of work, so that's why I was ranting so much :).

Acid makes stuff turn yellow and UV makes colors fade. I'm thinking, these posters are so high res and vivid that any fading would be very noticeable...not that I would tolerate fading at all. And stuff will stick to glass/plastic so if you take it out years after, it might very well be byebye.

Yea I just really wanted to rant lol. Sorry for being so...hard to understand.

Raleigh 27th November 2006 11:53 PM

Interesting. You got me get out my Ayu posters and think on how to frame them!

immel 27th November 2006 11:59 PM

I want to put up my 3 BLUE BIRD and 3 AT06 Startin' posters at the wall, beside each other. Err.

It'd look cool, I want frames.

Perfect, I'll wish for them as a Christmas present :).

HiruNoKaze 28th November 2006 05:23 PM

3BB up at once? meehhhh too much repetition for me. Everyone get your posters out of the closet! Every poster that comes out makes the world a better place.

HiruNoKaze 28th November 2006 05:24 PM

oro77 3rd December 2006 12:49 PM

Wow that's great, I never thought about framing posters, very good idea indeed!

chocopockymaster 4th December 2006 04:36 PM

I never thought about framing my posters, either...then I'd have abolutely NO ROOM left. This is what my walls already look like (pardon my messy room, I'm in the midst of hell-week at school):

I wonder where I'm gonna put my Secret poster when it comes today? .__.

ayu1m 4th December 2006 04:38 PM

Wow...

If you need room, I can always buy something from you :laugh

immel 4th December 2006 04:41 PM

chocopockymaster, the Memorial address poster is real pretty. Nice wall you got there.

chocopockymaster 4th December 2006 04:49 PM

Haha, thanks. xD I love the MA poster, too...unfortunately, the bottom is a little torn because it's right above my pillow and I have a tendency to toss and turn at night, so my pillow kills it. Everything else is the result of years of money-spending and wall-covering...

...did I mention I have about 30 more posters in tubes underneath my bed? x__X

immel 4th December 2006 04:54 PM

30!? Neat.

Hey... you should change place of the Ma poster, ruin any poster but not it!
