I'm interested in watching the show coming soon where they put Tony Blair on the spotlight and celebrities ask questions as part of Live 8.

When I go to the gym they put a white band around my wrist, so I'm just gonna use that! I watched Hotel Rwanda recently and it made me really sad and want to do something. I guess in one sense wearing a band is pretty useless, but what else can I do short of selling my posessions and becoming an aid worker?

We haven't even been home all day, yet the Live 8 concert has been on the TV since it started. It's on right now actually, lol.

Remember, the profit from the DVDs of the past Live Aid go to help the cause in Africa.

Yeah I saw that earlier this morning, and they didn't even show a clip of the tokyo show on MTV or VH1 :(

I've read that DAI were added to the bill really late, that i would have liked to see :)

anyway, although i'm not a fan of many of the artists, i can't deny it's been a great show. But still in london, why the hell give us snoop dog? so out of place o.O

They really could have had a better line up, but with such a short space of time to sort things out they did ok. but to be honest, i wouldn't have tried going even if i was there, that lineup is rather dire imo.

The only reason I turned on Live 8 was to watch Mariah. Nothing more. And I don't doubt that many people used this to watch their favorite artists as well- not to learn about the poverty situation in Africa. Maybe a few wanted to learn, but not many. If you think otherwise, you're just being naïve.

I signed the petition and saw my first name scroll by, and just as the first few pixels of the last name appeared, they cut to another camera!! I doubt it was me, though. :P Still really awesome to see all those names up there, though.

I had it on all day in the background. I'm not really a huge fan of anyone who performed, but it was just so cool to see. I think it's definitely a good thing, because it's to raise awareness which is the first step in making anything happen. People need to hear about something 10,000,000 times before they realize "Hey, this isn't just some out-of-touch story on the news, it's actually a really really really huge problem that's out of hand."

I really hope the G-8 meeting goes well this week. Does anyone know how many names are on the Live 8 list now?

My problem with the concert is that lots of people are making money on this but none of it is going to charity, which I think is BS. Yeah, they're raising awareness and being helpful, but I still don't think they should be profitting. I hope that when the DVD comes out that it all goes to charity like the Live Aid DVD.

That would be a good idea, but it's doubtful. Yeah, it bothers me too. Hell, they could even charge $1 a person, and get thousands, if not millions, from it.

Exactly what I thought. My friend lives not to far from Philly, and she ended up not going once she heard that they weren't taking donations and that no money was going to charity. She thought that was lame.

I dunno if anyone read the AP news but apparently Japanese fans didn't really rally to the concert there, only half of the stadium was full (about 10,000). It's stark when you contrast it to the 1 million + people who crowded around Philly.

I heard the line-up also included Do As Infinity... I could be wrong though ^^;; I would think the stadium would have filled up especially since Def Tech and Dreams Come True were there. Hmmm maybe they needed more big stars to line-up.

There's a lot of tlak about how money isnt the answer, it's awareness and change.. that's why it's not a charity. Give a fish etc.

^Money isnt the answer to poverty, it's politics and trade and debt and corruption etc... that's why they did the concert, so the people with the power could do something about it. Money is just a temporary solution to an ongoing problem :) *rant*

Yeah the Japan lineup was lame. But the LONDON lineup was All star!!!! I hope they put this on DVD I'll so get it!

I recorded the whole 11 hours, which were showed on an Austrian TV. I'll watch it later! it's sure cool

The money would be given to create an infrastructure for these countries to despense aid to their own people, to educate their people about things like aide, better ways to farm, better ways to take care of their animals to use them to make more money... that's not at all like that "give a fish" thing. It's seriously about creating a way for them to take better care of themselves.

I realize the political pressure/raising awareness part of it all.. but that people are profitting off of the concert and none of that going to charity, is simply bull. Like someone told me today, it's people making large amounts of money under the veil of a charity event.

The number was the number of people that signed the petition to show support for the plan to give aid for Africa.


Also, the G8 is not only about debt relief but also giving money in the form of grants, that's what Blair is pushing for... there is no way that we can be just relieve debt and expect everything to be fine and dandy there.

It was an amazing show to watch! The line-up in London was great!

I haven't seen much of Live8. I was watching a movie I had recorded the night before, so I kind of forgot about the concert.. If I would've known there were going to be Jpop artists I would've watched it, but all I heard about the Tokyo concert was that Björk and Good Charlotte were going to perform.. I guess I should've paid more attention.

They only showed a minute of Björk's performance. They mainly showed performances from London and Philadelphia.

Really? But did they show the Japanese artists?
I don't understand how they could only show a minute of Björk's performance, when they did show Madonna singing the same line about a hundred times..

I know, it was stupid. I haven't seen one single performance from Moscow or Rome and I haven't seen any Japanese artists... They only showed Björk's performance in Tokyo. Furthermore they mainly showed performances from London and Philadelphia.

I only watched to see Madonna as well, but before her performance there was a video.. Very touching. Then there was an african woman at the stage, that was in that video.. She was almost dead and everything, but she was helped and now she's healthy, it was really really nice!

When they brought the African girl that had been dying in the documentary out, that was really touching. She was really beautiful! And she looked so happy to be there. It made me glad because she showed that there was hope, but it also made me kind of sad, because how many lives that could grow to be as vibrant as she was are snuffed out unecessarily.
