Max Matsuura's blog

http://www.avexnet.or.jp/ayu/index.html

You can now see Avex President/Ayu's producer's blog on Ayu's site, it should popup when you visit.

From what I can make of it, Max talks very, very positively about Ayu... He says that there is no idol that can replace her ever. That she is on her way to be the next Madonna/Yumi Matsutoya. He also confirms that 'fairyland' will cost 240 million yen, (2 million $US). He has very high expectations about the new single, and says that there will be a new album by the end of the year!

Also, I noticed on Avex's main page that Ayu is the #1 artist again. http://cavex.avexnet.or.jp/index.jsp :D

elepop 12th July 2005 03:51 PM

This is great news! :)

[ Melinda ] 12th July 2005 04:00 PM

That's great! I think fairyland single will be her "comeback" and she will be as big as I am.. -days! No-one will never replace her. And new album? SWEET!!

[ Melinda ] 12th July 2005 04:04 PM

Eh, can someone translate? ^^ Thanks anyway.

bpulse 12th July 2005 04:15 PM

WOWWW! that's GREAT news!!! I love fairyland, and can't wait to listen to alterna!
Thanks the awesome news!

ohsixthirty 12th July 2005 04:16 PM

Sounds great to me! And its a nice confirmation that certain rumors are untrue! Thanks for sharing!

kiseki89 12th July 2005 04:20 PM

Finally someone translates a little to me about the article...
V Happy to know she's no.1 at avex page again. Cant wait for new album

[AHS]MortalSex 12th July 2005 04:20 PM

hurraaay! Ayu banzai!

AyuGAME 12th July 2005 04:55 PM

AyuGAME 12th July 2005 05:03 PM

i just love to know this news

*hearT_Place* 12th July 2005 06:22 PM

YAY!! that makes me happy:D:D Thanks for news.

240 million yen?! :shock I want to see this PV!

devilayu 12th July 2005 07:23 PM

1st part of the letter:

Recently, Hamasaki and I have been eating together.
It was at Roppongi's "MAKKUROO".
"Why here??" you ask.
Well if we ate there, Ayumi's friend MIKAJON (PEACHJON's president) would meet us, and he said he would give Ayumi some information.
So, the theme was not special.
Sometimes it's just the two of us. It's normal and we talk about various things. I wonder how it will be later this year. Actually, if we are able to make fairly good singles, there might be an album by the end of the year. If that's the case, there'd soon be a tour but I don't really want to talk about these possibilities.
Now that I think of it, in 10 years Ayumi will be like Madonna or Yumin (?) but not just anyone.
In today's Japan, to have young fans still support a female artist while in her mid-30's would be a first.
No doubt about that. (in other words, he thinks Ayumi's fanbase will hold strong for the next 10 years)

[there were some words I wasn't sure of, correct me if I made mistakes. Especially with the names]

This is referring to Matsutoya Yumi, aka Yuming. She's a very famous singer that Ayu likes...she sang Sotsugyou Shashin (Ayu re-recorded it for A-Ballads) and Haru yo, koi (Ayu sang this on Music Fair 21 after A-Ballads came out).

Cyria 12th July 2005 09:09 PM

Thanks for the info! This is good to hear, I'm hoping that like Madonna she'll still be popular and making music years after her most massive period.

Talk about a new album makes me happy, but to avoid disappointment I'm still expecting a '06 release. At least this shows that Ayu/her company is thinking of the future and not of retiring.

devilayu 12th July 2005 10:23 PM

^ Ah, thanks. I think someone needs to merge the two Max threads. ^_^;;

In any case, I have read thru the article and it seems suspiciously like rumor control. Max more or less bashes reporters by claiming they don't do their research. He says everyone on Ayu's side has denied the rumors, blah blah blah. He also makes a big deal out of how, even if he found another idol who does things similar to Ayumi, they will never be like Ayumi because Ayu is the "only one" (Haha, reminds me of a SMAP song).

The president of Peach John is Mika Noguchi. Thanks so much for the translation :thumbsup

[taskin.ayu] 12th July 2005 11:49 PM

Hurray! That is great news! And a new album? That's even better! =D I hope it will be her best yet. (:

Beyond the Sea 12th July 2005 11:59 PM

2 million!? That's bigger than the budget that made Napoleon Dynamite! I hope it's as good of a comeback as he says!

Okeeb, here's the full blog, as appears on Ayu's official site. I broke it in to segments to make it easier to read. There were two spots though that sort of baffled me, but after reading the whole thing I just got too woozy to think about it more. I put those things in bold. :headache

Today in the blog President Matsuura keeps, there was an entry regarding Ayu. The contents of the entry were very good, and I felt I wanted to definitely have everyone else read it as well, so I've made it a pop-up on the Team Ayu homepage and Ayu's official homepage.

Recently Hamasaki and I went out to eat together.
We went to "Makkuroo" in Roppongi.
Why there?
For some reason or another I was at that restaurant and met Ayu's friend,
Mika John (the president of Peach John). Afterward, Ayu heard that I was there
And asked me to take her, or something like that.
So there's no particular reason.
Occasionally we'll eat together. It's a normal thing for us.

We talked about different things. How she should attack the second half of the year.
She's been coming out with a lot of songs that make good singles
And the possibility of a new album at the end of the year is likely.
If so, a tour shortly after is likely, but right now I can only say it's a possibility.

In 10 years I think Hamasaki will be a Madonna or a Yuming, not just anyone.
She will be the first Japanese woman in today's Japan
To be in her mid-thirties and still continue
To be supported by young people.
Make no mistake about it.

Jeez, the tabloids say all sorts of things like she's not selling as much anymore,
Or that Hamasaki is over, but they simply don't know her at all.
Their merit and creativity should be more properly evaluated.
I believe it's the staff's fault that it's not.
It's sad that no one takes evaluations as much as doing it is doing it.

Certain people have been looking at Hamasaki through rose-colored glasses from the start.
When we've taken away those glasses, I bet they'll realize how wonderful she is.
There are so many creators who can't speak with her even if they're working with her,
Even though she wants to talk.
Something needs to be done about that. [Kore kara wa....]

I'm telling you of her true strength and talent firsthand.
Girls like Hamasaki don't come along very often.
Even thought I'm told to go find another Hamasaki, it's pointless.
Because there is only one Hamasaki Ayumi in this world.
Her distinct talent combined with her distinct visual,
Having her superior taste and fashion sense
And still she writes poetry, music, and sees through her generation.
Maybe I could find a person like that.
But I definitely won't find Hamasaki Ayumi.
It's not a matter of comparison. There's only one of her.

When an article saying "Ayu has been dried out by Avex"
Came out recently, Ayu laughed so hard.
It was an article written by a foolish reporter with no grounds at all.
But nowadays it's not so funny when even those kinds of tabloid articles
Get around in blogs and stuff, and it seems as if they were true.
Hamasaki and I said, laughing,
That we should do a commercial saying
"These articles are lying."
"I'm not dried ou~t."
"I'm not drying her ou~t."

But among the people that believe these articles are fans.
Naturally we thought we should pay careful attention to the reality of that fact.
For myself and for Avex
We think of Ayu as the first and final specially existing talent.
And from now on, no matter who I produce, I have no intention of writing
The inscription of "produced by max matsuura" in anyone but Hamasaki's credits.
We haven't discussed it much, but my relationship with Hamasaki is that of war buddies
Who have fought together and who are irreplaceable to eachother.
There's no way we could not have eachother.
Our relationship is one that no one can cut into.

Well, that's that.
And the next music video cost 240,000,000.
I wonder if that's an all-Japan record. With that sort of production cost, you could make a movie! (LOL)
Usually a music video is made on 4,000,000 to 10,000,000 yen.
I think EXILE's are like, between 40-50,000,000.
It's not really great to spend that much,
But please try to see her next musc video.
Incidentally, my name's WOMEN cost more than 100,000,000.
But it's because Ayu doesn't half-ass anything... Seriously...
That's my unrivaled partner.

mui-gei-tal 13th July 2005 12:18 AM

thanks for postin' this! =)

AyuGAME 13th July 2005 12:26 AM

wow..thx for the complete translation
i'm happy to see this...
long live AYU!

nmskalmn 13th July 2005 12:31 AM

Thanks for the additional info evolusean.

No doubt this was posted in response to the Shukan Jitsuwa article.

Qt Mashi 13th July 2005 12:31 AM

yay good news!! thanks!~!~!

ImpactBreaker 13th July 2005 12:45 AM

Wow he has such a strong connection with ayu! The reading was really fun, the "war buddies" sentence was funny and yep, it shows ppl that avex has absolutely NO intention of getting rid of ayu since max is avex's president and he even denied all those stupid rumours that (really well said by him) are usually her fans who keep on believing such BS CRAP. LOL

Thanks for the translations guys.

FancySN 13th July 2005 12:53 AM

OMG I love Max Matsuura! I'm glad he has so much confidence in Ayu and believes her so much . He should. He's believed her from the beginning, even in the days when she didn't like singing. He MADE her, and she really prooved that she was the right one!

I dont think Ayu's going to go away, at least not with Max around

Larisa-chan 13th July 2005 01:53 AM

I visited Ayu's official site today and that message popped up! I started to get worried and then I got even MORE worried when I visited AHS and saw it was a letter from Max Matsuura lol. I think it was necessary to be written to clear up any worries and confusion with recent tabloids...

And good lord, 240,000,000 yen for a music video??? I can't even imagine what it'll look like o.o

~Amy~ 13th July 2005 02:11 AM

Uh how much is that in american money?

SunshineSlayer 13th July 2005 02:53 AM

Thanks so much for all the translations. :) Glad that he came out and put some rumors to rest and finally someone official is sticking up for Ayu! Yay Max!

devilayu 13th July 2005 03:16 AM

Looks like a pretty good translation. Lemme see if I can clear up the bolded areas:

Quote:

...It's sad that no one takes evaluations as much as doing it is doing it.

...Something needs to be done about that. [Kore kara wa....]
1st part - I think he's trying to say that it's sad if these writers are unable to assess the things they write about (weird sentence, I know, lol)

2nd part - Something needs to be done about that --> But it should be expected around Ayu.

People unable to read Japanese/Chinese will not fully get a sense of what Max is saying. He doesn't just call the newspapers "newspaper", he calls them "worthless papers" as if nothing they say is credible (he's going on the attack here).

Annabelle 13th July 2005 03:17 AM

I'm glad to hear such positive comments about Ayumi from Max. I do believe Ayu will be the next Yumi Matsutoya (Yuming) as well. I mean, she's already the best selling Japanese female ever! Her popularity is still huge (though not as huge as in 1999-2000). I'm sure with the help of that PV, she'll gain some more fans in Japan. Hopefully younger fans..

celebskin22 13th July 2005 03:34 AM

i love how he clears things up for her fans. its reassuring because we've only heard negative news about ayu lately.

LEOyumi 13th July 2005 03:41 AM

Wow, what great news! So, it seems that Ayu still has a long way to go.. And with the new single, wonderful song, and (as it looks) a wonderful video, nobody can stop her now. Without mentioning the theme song for SHINOBI. Wooow =D

'she doesn't half-ass' meaning nothing she does is in poor quality, she works hard.

yes, i have to say, she will never half-ass anything in her life... everything she puts out is 150% of her effort... she will do a lot for her fans, and that's why she's one of the best artists in Japan... she's probably the hardest working person in Japan, probably more than the emporer!!!

That's the good news! But there's nothing surprising! Ayu is still an idol, the best one-everyone knows that, right?! And, of course, what producer will say about he's singer? Only good things and nothing more..

truehappiness 13th July 2005 04:02 PM

Hrm.. time to decipher which PV cost so much..

fairyland.. or alterna. :3 lol [...]

Zeo

evolusean 13th July 2005 06:13 PM

Thanks devilayu! :shimmy

truehappiness --> I didn't think about that actually, I just kind of assumed it would be for "fairyland." But it could very well be for "alterna". Either way, I'm trying to imagine how they would spend $2 million! It should be pretty shpiffay...!

[AHS]MortalSex 13th July 2005 06:53 PM

*sniff* canīt describe my feelings right now with words but im really in a great mood ^^

hrm...i thought they said it was specifically for fairyland? that'd make sense as that is the pv that has a making of clip included. i'm curious too, to see how they spend all that money. :)

lolo66 13th July 2005 09:50 PM

interesting

now we know how much those MVs cost

Nikki 13th July 2005 09:56 PM

Yay! I'm so excited :D

AngieChan 14th July 2005 05:32 AM

omg im really happy to read this article! :D

its really a surprise for max to write such things about ayu.. now that he is a president.. the relationship between them is really special.. he truly believes in ayu and now i do believe that max's confidence and support is the backbone of ayu success... the way he write is very fun... lol! :D but he gotta becareful of 'favoring' ayu too much.. i mean.. avex is not just about them two.

ferrari 14th July 2005 07:25 AM

thanx phantoma for telling me that! Yeah.. of coz she work hard on everything she does! If not, she's not that ayu that we know! LOL!
And I totally agree that ayu is irreplacable!

kyomiayu 14th July 2005 07:46 AM

Thanks for the translation...I am so happy after reading the article. And i am shock the amount they spend on a MV...

nanami606 14th July 2005 10:56 AM

To be in her mid-thirties and still continue! See! She won't quit!!! I'm so so glad. And I'm so so glad that Max supports Ayu so much :D That's so sweet.

And I hope there will be an album. Just can't wait.

kiyokitu 14th July 2005 06:38 PM

2 million bucks for a PV...tats abit of a waste of muney...lol should give charity instead... 2million...erm...maybe in the pv she wears lots of diamonds n then run about under the sun.. n then dance at the beach...n throw those diamonds into the sea...tats y cost 2 million bucks...wahaha!

Echiko 14th July 2005 07:12 PM

WOOOAAHHH....first of all...*listening to shimatani hitomi - kuon = quiet touched song* reading that letter REALLY REALLY makes me all fluffy inside. x3;; I mean, max has SO much confidence in ayu and it sounds like they're SUCH good buddies!! Reading it just makes me wanna hug them both. xDD They're so cool. *can't stop smirking* I love them both. x] boo to tabloids!! whoo~~

and...DANNG...the pv is gonna be EXPENSIVE!!! 0_0

It's shot in Hawaii so the spent a lot of money on plane tickets for the WHOLE staff (lots of people) and Ayu went in 1st class. The hotel for the whole staff, a really expensive one and just that it's a lot of money. They also used a hellicopter.

But most of Ayu's videos are shot overseas, aren't they? In LA. Hawaii can't be that much more expensive than LA. I suppose if the video features a bunch of her friends and they were all brought out and put up in a really expensive hotel. But I'm sure they found other ways to blow all that dough.

lolo66 14th July 2005 08:55 PM

not most
just a couple

R@INBOW 16th July 2005 07:09 AM

oh my... my name's WOMEN cost that much?!?

//hikari 18th July 2005 04:11 PM

I think he's masking himself with his friendship and not really opening up to allow future talents to take over and become very popular ... there's an upside and there's a downside to this letter.

I'm glad that he wants to keep her going for a long time though.

Qsenwill 19th July 2005 03:06 AM

happy reading this
im's sure ayu is still hot now n even hotter soon

lolo66 19th July 2005 03:07 AM

But of course this is in part a sales tool.

ayu_fan929 19th July 2005 01:58 PM

i think this letter served 3 purposes

I) to stop the rumours about her retiring, n getting married
II) to tell ppl that even w/her lower sales n rising new acts (BoA/ai) she is still avex's #1 prority
III) avex is not making otsuka ai the next hamasaki ayumi!

lolo66 20th July 2005 09:22 PM

nah.... I still think it's mostly a sales pitch.

chsf 20th July 2005 09:44 PM

(why is BoA still considered a "new" act, she's been around 'forever' in Japan (5 years at least), to me it seems bunny girl has achieved much more in less time than her)

okay so I'm not the only one who's in disbelief over the amount of money they are spending on "fairtale"!

but yay for the good news, and thanks so much for bringing us them!

ayu_fan929 21st July 2005 03:03 AM

^BoA's been in japan for around 4 yrs now....n r u referring bunny girl = otsuka ai? if u r, then i think that BoA has achieved way more than ai has cuz BoA is in japan for half a yr. out of BoA's 4 albums, at least 2 have made it past the million, n the other was damn close to the million mark. so far, ai's albums havent even reached the sales for BoA's worst album yet (= L&H ~670K)

btw, its "fairyland" not "fairtale"

benslave4u 21st July 2005 03:55 AM

Hummm....Actually I would say that Otsuka Ai is going to catch up to BoA in no time. It's amazing how fast her popularity is heating up. For the last season she has released a few single one album and even a movie so I think she is going to be the next big thing!

AyuRlz 21st July 2005 09:10 AM

powerful speech made by max matsuura indeed~

lovia 22nd July 2005 05:58 PM

one of the best article i ever read so far... hahahaha i love that 'half-assed' part.. cool!! LOL and im sure ayu will still be big for the next 10 years! no doubts about it! we love ayu forever! ganbette ayu! and thanx for the translation ;)

Thanks for the translation. Matsuura still count on Ayu for sure...

Euroboy 26th July 2005 06:46 AM

thanks for the info. yeah, AYU!!! :D

starr5245 26th July 2005 10:57 AM

hey! i think Max is worth commending!!

quantum_ayu 30th July 2005 08:42 AM

Thanks for the translation. Nice to know they still put Ayu in top priority (I guess).
Go Ayu!!!

Ayumi no Yume 6th August 2005 03:08 AM

Thanks a-lot for the translation. I was wondering what it said when i went on her site too, and tried to translate it, didnt work much. But i am very happy to hear she will be going on. I'll be supporting her till she's past 30. Past 40. Past eternity. I have even basically learning japanese <i>because of her</i> so i can understand her better, but translations come in handy too. I was a little concerned when i heard she was going down a little, but I just hoped she kept singing. Now i see how many people really love her and her music, even in america and bunches of other places in the world. With everyone behind her as much as Max is, she is definetly going on. Who knows how long...

Mad_Cactuar 25th August 2005 01:00 PM

Wow, the letter was so meaningful... I really felt touched and I couldnt help smiling when I read it... He is true, theres only ONE AYUMI HAMASAKI, we should appreciate her talents... GO AYUMI!!! I find the part where Max Matsuura said that the "produced by max matsuura" was an Ayu exclusive MY FAVOURITE!!! GO AYUMI!!!

A Touching Blog Written by Max Matsuura

That really made me feel happy inside.

Beyond the Sea 11th June 2006 04:55 AM

Why is he so obsessed with her?

truehappiness 11th June 2006 04:55 AM

It was on Ayu's~

Evolusean translated it and stuff, I think.. /looks for a link

http://www.ahsforum.com/forum/showth...light=matsuura

i think thats sweet.

I read this today for the first time. It's so so beautiful. Especially the "i have no intentions of crediting anyone else with "produced by max matsura" except for ayumi hamasaki'.
Thank you for this even if I'm 8 years late!

Surreal17 1st February 2014 03:43 PM

Yeah..it's my first time reading this article too...he said some really nice things about her :)

Andrenekoi 1st February 2014 04:08 PM

In the end of the day, he was right... Ayu isn't selling as much as she used to, but she still is doing far better than people with younger careers, still having some of the best selling tours, general public still interested on her personal life, and considering X Japan did the first Buddha movie theme song, she is being paired with legends.
