[2005] Bold & Delicious - what do u think about this song?

I know full version of this song wasn't released yet but I'm curious what's r ur first thoughts about this song from preview listening?

First of all I'm surprising because I supposed Bold & Delicious will be UP-BEAT song and in reality it's GOSPEL!!! :thud

AYU's singing sounds well but this choir part is strange. Besides new track sound americanish and commercial for me. I think it was misunderstanding that Avex start to co-working with western composers - it's not the same AYU which we know and love. Maybe they want to start promoting AYU in USA? :eyebrow

Mad_Cactuar 5th November 2005 03:37 PM

I think its amazing for the new style. This experimentation with genres will bring Ayu to a new peak in her career I say! The choir adds some nice feeling to it, like Ayu is being cheered and she is commanding the crowd to sing with her!

If they start promoting Ayu in USA I will scream.

I say this song feels like Gospel-Pop-R&B

nanami606 5th November 2005 03:40 PM

for me, it sucked. I don't like that genre. and that gospel choir was hell annoying. I hope Ayu won't stick with this style. it's nice to try new things once in a while.

ohsixthirty 5th November 2005 03:41 PM

hey, is this the song that was composed with the same person that composed for Ace of Base or was that Pride???

Qt Mashi 5th November 2005 03:42 PM

i relli liked the way this sing surprised me, i think it's relli good, i;ve never heard Ayu singing like this and the music is soo different!

but i dun like it how the background singers sang the words "B&D" and hopefully Ayu won't sing it in the full version XD hard to imagine hehe

and yeah i dun relli like it how theres more background singing than Ayu singing so i think i will definately like the full version better because the song won't have background vocals all the way through

yup this song will definately stand out just like STEP you!

i dont think they are trying to promote Ayu to US o_O

Mad_Cactuar 5th November 2005 03:45 PM

Oh yeah, is this song composed by that S.H.E composer? O___O I think it is, isnt it? Weird, S.H.E never sang stuff like this. Maybe the composer had no confidence in S.H.E and kept his masterpieces for Ayu!!! :luv2

That's how I feel, it's not a favourite genre of mine too. It sounds too much like the stuff here, which everyone-and-their-mother is trying to sound like. I don't mind Ayu trying new things, because when some work they work very well. This for me doesn't work, and I hope she's going to continue with her unique style instead of getting bogged down in one stereo-typical genre, because I like the way each track is a bit different :yes

:roflmao

I like the song alot! :shimmy
As much as I want Ayu to come to the U.S. I don't think she is but that would be great if she did though. ^_^

Mad_Cactuar 5th November 2005 03:53 PM

well, you cant say she's getting bogged down in one stereotypical genre since she released nothing like this earlier. Plus Will and Alterna was something totally different too! Each of the singles do a 180 degrees from each other! :luv2 I think we should wait for the full song to hit before making a final judgement though, cant wait for it! Radio rip should be out soon! :luv2

yep, Amy, I dont want another Exodus fiasco involving Ayu..

Annabelle 5th November 2005 03:58 PM

I don't like it. When I thought fairyland was the worst Ayu song of 2005... Gospel-R&B dosen't fit Ayu at all. Her next album surely won't be part of my Christmas order if Pride and all the album tracks sound like B&D.

Lumix 5th November 2005 03:58 PM

After few times listening, I think I will like that song. But still, those weird voices sux!

Raleigh 5th November 2005 03:59 PM

I was very very surprised. I never expected this style to be used by Ayu. Sounded odd at first but it's kinda addicting though. Hitomi Shimatani tried Gospel once with "Glorious Days" and it was a really fun song.

I like this trend. First she did rock, then techno-pop mixed, then ballads and now gospel. Much better than last year which had two ballad singles and one rock song. More variety and gets people interested. It was like she was stuck in the same style and themes last year but this year seems more varied and interesting.

Many artists have this tendency to get stuck into a routine which is fine for a couple of years but ends up getting really boring in the end when it goes on and on. So I think this genre was a good choice.

I'm just concerned that she could do more tracks like this, and end up in one stereo-typical genre, which wouldn't be a good thing. I will wait and hear the full version, but it's a genre that doesn't appeal to me in any way, so I'm not really interested in this track, and I probably won't get the single because most likely both tracks and the PV/s will be on the album.

Mad_Cactuar 5th November 2005 04:02 PM

^ Oh, ok. I hope she doesnt get stuck I one genre like Western artistes usually are. I love her adventurous attitude! But be warned though, if B&D does very well, she would surely make more gospel goodies.. XD Sounds like Destiny's Child eh? Or James Brown..

Yeah exactly... :shakehead

Raleigh 5th November 2005 04:08 PM

Nope she won't get bogged with gospel. I think she learnt that with rock. Since Memorial Address she has released wayy too many rock releases onto albums.. two tracks in the mini album and a ton of rock songs onto MY STORY which ended up with not pleasing other fans who did not like rock so much.

Same goes with RAINBOW. When the pop theme was constanly vibrating from that album people got disappointed.

The secret of Ayu is her variety and that's why I'm pleased with B&D

Yes, that's it - she'd become too much like the artists we have here, where every track is the same. Hmm, if this song does well and she makes a lot more like this I might loose interest in her, as it's not a genre that I care for and I couldn't stand listening to a lot more of it. It doesn't really sound like Destiny's Child to me, as Ayu is more talented, it would seem like there's more than just a programmed beat repeated over and over in B&D, which might make it better than any Destiny's Child track.

*Auralie* 5th November 2005 04:09 PM

well... its very unlike AYU but I kinda like it ^^

Mad_Cactuar 5th November 2005 04:10 PM

Yes, the secret of Ayu's success is her variety and that's why I'm pleased with B&D!

She should composing song by herself - she's really good with it and she proofe it at I am... album. Also I don't have nothing against composers whos working with AYU in last years but I think about japanese composers - not american. American composers mostly working for many popular artist at the same time what fructify making of commercial songs. I don't want to AYU start to be one of those commercial "artist" :no

elepop 5th November 2005 04:23 PM

I absolutely love it. I love gospel. It sounds different and refreshing.

Her voice is great too. High hopes for this song!

Thanks so much Cactuar. Actually yes it is :P while me and Delirum were posting images away yesterday I fell in love with this image and made an icon.

Yeah I agree. Variety is good :P Goodnight then XD finally your wish has been granted.

devilayu 5th November 2005 04:39 PM

I don't quite see the gospel so much as I see an R&B influence. It sounded something like Koda Kumi would sing.

I don't want to AYU's songs was similar to songs of commercial western artist. I'm too borinig euro-american music - new songs enjoy me only little while. I think it's important feature if artist keep own style all the time. It's nothing wrong that songs r in similar or even the same style - it's personal style of some artist. I like asian artist because they keeping own style all the time. If ppls know artist as for example rock artist and love this artist for this style - it's natural they want more those songs. If this artist change music style on latino-american surely will lost most of fans. Euro-american artists changing style all the time in dependence on actual vogue on music market. R they real artists? Of course no - they r only singer dolls of commercial music market like for ex. most of 2x age "idols" which started career in 99/00. They start as disco-pop singers, later they start to sing R'n'B - now some of them trying to be rock singers. It's so silly and plaintive :rolleyes If AYU start to going the same way her career will not be long...

elepop 5th November 2005 04:45 PM

I can't stop listening to it! It's so good. And much better than "HEAVEN" which I loved. Now that a song that I believe, Ayu could show off her amazing vocals. That's the kind of song I would sing over and over again. Gospel music is so cool. "Bold & Delicious" ROCKS!!!

I'm so glad it's nothing like fairyland, STEP you, or my name's WOMEN. This is way better!

marty518 5th November 2005 04:46 PM

It's obvious that they're trying new things so that Ayu can be on top again, and I really like what they've done! It's a really upbeat song and I'll buy the single just to support Ayu.. then the album a month later ugh $$ lol

benslave4u 5th November 2005 04:48 PM

well I have to say it's a very interesting tone!! I think I would like it more when I hear the whole song or seeing she perform it live. I found that out with a lot of ayu's songs. I like the song after I see the live performance!! So I think it would be really cool if she perform it on MS. Plus I have to say I think this single will really stand out among the others because now it's the season of doing Chrismas things. So this should rock the oricon chart!!!

Eh yes.. that's right. I think I might buy this single :P The cover and the song really sound promising.

ImpactBreaker 5th November 2005 04:51 PM

I think it'll be really cool to see her performing it in concerts...it just seems to have a lot of energy LOL

~AyUsIcK~ 5th November 2005 04:55 PM

y does the name "kuda kumi" keep appearing here? i'm getting annoying... it's like saying ayu's copying kuda kumi or something....

yys113 5th November 2005 04:55 PM

This song is really weird from the preview I've heard, I'm totally not prepared for that lol. I don't know, I can't say I like it very much from the preview so far, I need to listen to the whole song to see how the song flows. If I am to rate the preview, I'll give it 6/10. :P

New style is awesome once in a while, afterall she's the J-Pop diva so it's natural for her to try out different genre. I think Bold & Delicious is probably the weirdest song from ayu so far.

I do hope that Peco will be in the backing vocals too XD her appearance always gets me into a good mood.

Dustie 5th November 2005 05:09 PM

1. i agree, the song is a bit "kumi-sh", but that's actually nothing wrong, as long as it's Koda Kumi, not anything US or EU...

2. it's just 30 sec. clip, but i like it -- we'll know for sure if we like it after listening for the full song at least few times, so there's quite some time left until we can tell for real...

3. i guess Ayu was always inspired by US/World artist, the way they do careers and stuff, the music. she herself admitted to it many times. it's quite probable she's her music to reach the style that Western music has. it might work for Japan... it won't work for me though, and probably for many Jmusic fans here either...

4. i wish she made a song with the style she had in the "I Am... - RAINBOW - Memorial Address" era... or maybe even something like on "A song for xx" and "Loveppears" album??... i kinda miss Ayumi from the previous years...

5. i think the album might really be called "CARNIVAL" -- those clothes, that gospel thingie, release on the 1st of January... Ayumi-san fascinated by circus?? 0_o

It could be great if she would record some new songs in her old style :)

Namie 5th November 2005 05:44 PM

she can't sing gospel. Her voice isn't made for that.......geez.....hate this song and the choir is just to much.....and when Ayu goes yeahie yeahie sounds awful. She's to nasal.

Joel 5th November 2005 05:48 PM

OMG! This is soooooooooooooo awesome!!!! A new style fo Ayu!!!! Its so different from anything shes done anything before! Im so happy that this is an awesome!!!!

shinde 5th November 2005 05:52 PM

It's cool that Ayu is trying new stuff...I like her old style but new styles are cool too ^.^ I really don't think Ayu will actually stick with this style though *hopes not...*, not that I don't like it but too much will be just....meh...

firefox 5th November 2005 05:54 PM

Actually I do think she can. Her voice sounds really cute when she's sort of rapping. But then I suppose with every release everyone's gonna complain for some reason or other :P

I like it a lot, it's so different from anything she's ever done! I'm not sure how to put it, but it sounds "American" in a way. I'll have to hear the full song to decide whether that is a good thing or not.

i see what you mean, but i think its good that ayu tries new styles. she has evolved over time and i appreciate when she has something that stands out as a new style. as long as she doesn't totally switch to some gospel r&b style its ok. i think its fun to have a song here and there though that stands out as a different style. :)

Yea pretty much. I've noticed how the trend of AHS goes like this when a release comes out.

greggerz189 5th November 2005 06:41 PM

I love it! ^_^ I don't want another Exodus fiasco involving Ayu either, but that's because Hikki screwed it up royally. It would take a lot of work, but Ayu could make it. She'd need some serious english coaching and vocal coaching, and she'd have to get signed with the right label--and most importantly, stick to who she is. She would have to keep her style. It would be smart of her to re-write her songs into English and then use them over again (i.e. I am...). It's possible, but EXTREMELY difficult. Anyway, I love B&D

Holy! I FRIGGIN LOVE THIS SONG!!! IT SOUNDS SO POWERFUL AND JUST AWESOME!!! It's TOTALLY different and I LOVE IT! It's like "Real me" and "my name's WOMEN" pumped with steroids. I LOVE IT! It's probably the first song I've loved instantly from the preview... this and "Will", I though "HEAVEN" was utter blandness when I heard the preview but man I LOVE IT ALREADY! It's just so FUN and ENERGIZED!!!

It actually reminds me a lot of RAINBOW's ending chorus... which is a good thing :)

minkAYuko 5th November 2005 08:17 PM

i like the song very much!... the backgeoung singers is what makes the soung sounds so good!... I know it won't be fiasco!...

and what's the problem with gospel? she has used it before... Girlish... Rainbow... and... others! hahaha

at least is no rock!...This album promise to be excelent! I' expecting a ''connected'' somewhere.

TeamAyu 5th November 2005 08:18 PM

zeroshin888 5th November 2005 09:24 PM

the "Bold & Delicious.." part totally freaks me out... especially if you listen to it in a high volume, sounds freaky! Omg, i am scared, kinda, of the full version that i wont like it. It hurts!.... I hope Pride will be a slow ballad sorta thing.

SunshineSlayer 5th November 2005 09:30 PM

A little too funky for me to really love it I think and I'm not loving the choir a whole lot either. I can see liking it as a fun song, but not really love, loving it. Hopefully Pride is something I can enjoy more.

ayu_ayu301 5th November 2005 09:31 PM

i don't think the word 'surprised' will be left out of anyone replies to this thread .. lol .. and the same goes for mine

it is definitely something ... different ... totally unexpected ..

i think it'll take some time for this song to sink in .. hoping the full version will b better but at least she's exploring new alternatives ^^

ayu can't pull off hip hop, but that picture of her on her site is gorgeous.

I'm glad this is not another plain rock song, she has a lot of those and, well this year she has already released 2 great rock songs on singles already so it's not as if she's lacking in that part. And since ayu is always trying different things this is definitely a STEP forward.

hamasaki_edwin 6th November 2005 02:47 AM

I LIKE IT! it sounds so american-ish & it's a nice R&B song! can't wait for the full version!!!

hopeorpain 6th November 2005 02:49 AM

^chibinina is right right about the gospel genre..
and usually songs grow on me as I listen to them...even if I hate it at first. I guess my tastes aren't very unique:D

Ayu_desu 6th November 2005 03:18 AM

I like the last part of the song... the front part is a bit discordant/dissonant.
I had a heart attack when the chorus blasted out from my speakers... too unexpecting. lol

This is rather increasing my anticipation for her upcoming album.

WOW! i've been reading your posts!.... and.... You REALLY like this song! hahahaha! I'm glad!

yes i'm not into gospel music either.... but i do like to listen to it! (i mean I like all type of styles) and it's not even like this song is all gospel-amazing grace by mika nakashima-type! it's just a pop song with a twist, Ayu's music is getting better!... like u said STEP forward!....

I'm so glad she's trying new things and so far all her songs sound different and cool! so uplifting!

I still want a ''connected'' type of song!

mooy 6th November 2005 03:30 AM

I love love love love it. It sounds great. I was hoping Ayu would venture from her regular sound. I am excited to hear the entire thing.

And of course, there are those who either really do like it or try to find something to like about it.

Then there are those who get genres wrong. As I said in another thread, this is NOT an R&B song! It's not hip-hop, it's not urban contemporary, it's none of that. Based on the preview, it's a generic pop song with a gospel influence. If you don't believe me, listen to either Namie's "Concentration 20" album or her "Sweet 19 Blues" one. That's all similar to "Bold & Delicious."

Anyway, I like it. It makes me smile. I can totally see the PV done like the Sister Act movies, hehe.

Completly agree.

lovemimi40 6th November 2005 03:49 AM

Well I admit that it is pretty catchy...if the verse is good, then the song might turn out great. But if the chorus is mainly the BG ppl yelling BOLLLLDDD AND DELICIOUSSS, then ayu doesn't really sing in it.
This year, Ayu seems to be into more uplifting and happy songs (Step you, Fairyland and now Bold&Delicious), of course I'm not talking about the B-sides (which by the way, I always find better than the A-side).
I have 2 points I wanna talk about :

1) someone mentionned that Bold and Delicious is ayu's weirdest song..IMO, I think Fairyland is her weirdest song. The slow/fast/happy type is really not a good mix and the PV is really weird....ayu and dancers jumping around in the beach? It's so amateurish.

2) Has ayu gotten rid of BOUNCEBACK? I remember people complaining about this composer and saying "ayu should get rid of them" or "they should go back to composing for Boa", but then they would go on about how much they like songs like Game, My name's woman, Because of you which are composed by the composers they hate. IMO, Bounceback are GREAT composers and some of her best songs are composed by them. If ayu really got rid of them, then it's a real shame.

But anyways...looking forward to the new single and album...:)

i was thinking the same thing the other day. i always really like songs by bounceback...some of my fave ayu songs were composed by him. so i hope that she hasn't completely gotten rid of him!!!

hopeorpain 6th November 2005 04:13 AM

BOUNCEBACK should be appreciated...and also Tetsuya Yukumi (is that her name?) !!

Mad_Cactuar 6th November 2005 08:29 AM

^ get it at the 30 second preview download thread, I added 35 seconds and 37 seconds too.. XD

[H] 6th November 2005 08:59 AM

well this song just stands out of all her other songs! I'm sure it'll be an addiction once we hear the full version. :)

It's just.. after listening to the preview, I can't stop imagining Ayu as Sister Mary Clarence from Sister Act singing in front of the flock in Brooklyn :thud :thud

extepan 6th November 2005 09:27 AM

it is very different from any track she has done. i think she is trying to reinvent herself again. i hope she will reach a new peak by doing so!
personally, i am not sure if i will like the song from what i have heard

well.. like some1 already said the preview that starts once you enter ayu's site is not the same as the one when you click on-off! :P

the end of the 37s preview sounds like fairyland

Annabelle 6th November 2005 06:14 PM

The end of the 37 sec preview makes me think the chorus is very different from the rest of the song, if so, YAY! :D

I agree. I don't really like the genre itself but song isn't THAT BAD after listening it couple of times. It's a bit addicting, I have to admit. And it's different, which is a good thing. Ayu's singles have been interesting this year, each have had own unique style. Compare for example STEP you/Alterna/HEAVEN. See?

So basically, I think this song will turn out okay but not my favorite single, that's for sure (nothing can beat Alterna....). Now I'm curious to know what's Pride like...

well of course! they always are!

I'm glad u are back on the B&D express! =D give it a chance is never what we expect! :lech

bernardation 6th November 2005 08:08 PM

i'm glad to see ayumi trying new styles.
the song sounds great, and it makes me feel sooo excited about her next album.

VARIETY !!

Cyria 6th November 2005 08:48 PM

It's different, so points for that. However, I'm not liking the chorus right now, I wish it only had Ayu's voice. This really seems like the kind of song I have to hear all of before I can form a decent opinion.

There is always something to like in an Ayu song, but this time it's not the chorus. I'm hoping for the best. :yes I guess writing the lyrics made me like the song more :D

DA1SUK1DAY01691 6th November 2005 11:22 PM

It reminds me of RAINBOW, yet more upbeat. May be it'll be kind of like that. A slower start, then a fast chorus, medium verse, fast chorus, and then ending with a fast bridge to the final choruses. That'd be pretty awesome.

Raleigh 6th November 2005 11:24 PM

Annabelle: Agreed. Her songs are addictive and inspiring. I'm happy you like the song more.

not only that~ but also her dancing moves, isnt it wonderful and convenient to have a chreographer who is also ure back up singer? :lech i can already picture Peco in Ayu's next live performance of B&D :tired

NeoDaydream 7th November 2005 01:16 AM

i love it!!! ^^ but if you don't like it, don't worry! you know Ayu doesn't stay w/ one style of anything! ^^ but i do like the gospelness. and it sounds like an awesome encore song! ^^

Well actually I think I have yet to see her choreography skills.. but anyhow she's a rather entertaining addition along with the others since she's always trying to prance along and get in the spotlight herself. It's quite amusing.
