[2005] Do Ayumi and Namie hate each other?
 

D: I really hope this rumor isn't true. Two of my favorite JPop stars having some sort of hostility toward each other? The mere idea! :faints:

Tabloids say yes to anything negative, however according to a pseudo-recent Music Station that had Namie, Ayumi, and BoA all on, Namie and BoA were smiling and laughing in reaction to Ayumi's talk with the hosts.

I saw that reaction to BoA and Nmie too! I do hope it wasn't an act...

They say that hostility comes from Ayu supposedly taking the Pop Queen status away from Namie in the 2000's... I haven't heard of any arguments or bad sayings though

well, from what i heard, Namie refers to Ayu as "the make up monster" and Ayu refers to Namie as "the monkey" or something because she was in that Supermonkey group. of course, i heard this years ago and i don't know if its true.

Why would them? I don't think they do. I think both are nice people.

That was from a tabloid. From what I see Ayu and Namie seem to get along. Although I'm not sure if they are friends or not.

I thought that the "hostility" between ayu and utada was between fanbases, never the two of them. At least Utada praised ayu in an american interview, stating that she respected her a lot.

I watched that whole episode and don't know if you noticed but even though Namie and Boa talked to each other (while others were talking), neither of them talked to Ayumi (and Ayumi was sitting next to Boa). While I don't think there are hard feelings amongst them, Ayumi seems more standoffish. Like, she won't talk to them unless someone initiates it (Tamori, etc). In the clip of Ayumi and Koda Kumi at the Mr. & Mrs. Smith premiere, Koda seemed like she wanted to say something to Ayumi and kept looking over at her but Ayumi didn't reciprocate.

Heard alot of rumours about Ayu's "hostility" towards other artists.

I also noticed that, Koda seemed as though she kept looking at Ayumi and as though they were going to talk. But Ayumi either saw her and kept looking forward, or just kept staring at the man. She seems kind of um...Untalkative to them. And really I'm sure BoA likes Ayumi, and Namie too....or else they wouldn't have done ayumi's ayuready?! show.

I think Ayumi should talkkk to them more. I wish she had talked to Kumi when she wanted to talk. She kept staring, hey hey hey.

i think its all fan-based, what was that thing a couple of months ago that was supposedly a feud between Ayu and Namie? I heard that one of them took one side and the other took another side and it involved some rappers...

anyways I don't think any of them (Amuro, BoA, Hamasaki, Koda) calls each other names in public (for the tabloids to hear) but there's no doubt competition going on. I mean, they belong to the same company which only makes it worse.

Right now Ayu is almost in Namie's shoes seeing how in Japan people are hailing Koda as the next J-pop queen so I can understand if Ayu at least doesn't feel like warming up to Koda.

I'm the one who originally posted that article from the MDN Waiwai section here and then it was later reposted several times by others. Their quotes were all taken from tabloids and the Waiwai section is not necessarily known for its truth in journalism.

You never know... I thought Kuda Kumi looked like she was very "into" the conversation between Max Matsuura and the Vice-President.
But yeah, I think Kumi's a stranger to Ayumi, since if they knew each other better, they would've sat together.

Hah! The Kumi and Ayu pics and captions are hilarious :) But it's kind of hard to talk to someone two seats away. And Kumi looked like she was listening in on Max's conversation. She wasn't really looking at Ayu.

on the Mr and Ms smith premier Ayu acted cold towards Koda. koda were like oh Hi ayu and ayu just oh..you.......and why isn't koda nicer dressed? she looks like she just going to watch a movie with her closest friends pyjamasparty =)

It looks like Ayumi acknowledged Koda when she was sitting down... but perhaps Koda was listening to Max and the other guy... And Koda could have very well been in Ayumi's blind spot... plus she looked like she was in her own world... maybe Ayumi daydreams alot :D

There was a kind of special episode of ayuready? during a-nation. It took place outside and no song was performed during that episode. ayu had four guests that time: YUKI from TRF, Mochida Kaori from Every Little Thing, BoA and Van Tomiko from Do As Infinity. ^^

i don't think Ayu and Namie hate each other because:
1. they're DIVA
2. Namie's a friendly woman
3. Ayu has no reason to hate Namie because at now the amount of Ayu's sale is more Namie's

Anyway, about Ayu and Namie, so far i've never caught them giggling or talking like HS girls,
like Ayu with HIkki (MS November 2005 & March 2007), or Ayu with Koda (MS March/April?? 2006 & October 2006),
i even saw Ayu whispering something to Masaharu Fukuyama about Ken Hirai's performance at that time which caused him laughing (MS June 2006)

but yes, i've never seen her talking with Namie like that even though in MS (October/November? 2005) they appeared together with BoA sat in the middle of them.
and like just devilayu said, none of them talked to Ayu even though Namie was seen smiling when Ayu being interviewed by the hosts.

and about that make up monster article.. LOL somehow it just cracked me up in the past.

I don't see a reason why Namie and Ayu should hate each other, and I'm sure BoA doesn't hate Ayu, nor she hates BoA, as in the HISTORY of BoA, she mentioned that the first JPOP artist she met was actually Hamasaki, and that she was extremly nice to her, and payed her respects even though BoA was a child back then.

I'm not sure if this got already mentioned, but in the articles section is an interview with ayu from the September 2006 issue of "Cawaii" translated by isaac hiew. And in that interview she said:

After all, celebrities are just people (Surprise!) and they get along with each other or don't get along with each other, just like anyone else. But I think that interview says quite much about the ayu-Namie-hating-topic... I don't think they hate each other.

And about BoA: While a clip about ayus "A BEST II" release was shown on MS, showing a part of the PV for "Dearest", BoA (I think it was her...) was singing along with it. That was so cute! ^^

In the end I doubt most artists are really good friends [apart from those who were friends before they became popular and those who collaborate, etc] When I see them on variety shows, most of the time it seems an act. Most artists don't have that much time to interact and probably see each other as competitors or leverage for more attention, to some extent.

In award shows BoA always looks terribly sour when somebody apart from her wins an award. Koda is too eager to appear friendly to everyone, that it makes me wonder sometimes. Ayu is always the type who keeps professional life as entirely professional - see how she used to interact with Tomoya when they were together.

Music Station is considered to be one of the most boring shows for the artists.... cos you just sit at there and doing nothing...... but the fans loves cos' they just love to see their idols sitting at there?

Ayumi has a keen friendship with Kaori. BoA and Kuda Komi were.... well, slightly on the competitive term right now.

Namie and Ayu......... Namie is actually ayu's senpai (senior), and Ayu had expressed her admiration for her predecessors like TRF, Southern all Stars and even, well, Namie herself. Check my previous translations in Ayu Library.

Yeah, I've never seen any animosity between Namie & Ayu in the past; probably another tabloid-fueled rumor :) And isaac_hiew is right; Ayu and Mochida Kaori do seem pretty friendly. I don't think I've seen Ayu interact in a friendly manner with anyone else famous besides Utada Hikaru, Mochida Kaori, KEIKO and Gackt but then again I haven't seen every Ayu video in existence XD;
