Hrm.. Nostalgia xD I wonder if the imagery of fairyland having to do with childhood has to do with its choosing.. because STEP you didn't make much sense, and HEAVEN was already performed like the hoohah..

yay fairyland is AWESOME! I'd be glad if she's going to sing it ;) I find it weird that people at AHS assume that their taste is supposed to be ayu's or japanese people's taste. If these news are true, maybe japanese people prefer fairyland over her other songs this year? The favorite track from MY STORY to japanese people was actually my name's WOMEN, the least liked song by a lot of ppl here.

Fairyland is my favorite Ayu song this year. Ayu always performs the song with the biggest buzz each year. Heaven(which I also love) might have sold more than Fairyland, Fairyland is still more popular with all the shows and commercials and the most expensive PV ever.

That's a weird choice, but I like Fairyland so it's OK.

This year wasn't the year when Japanese people would chose their favorite songs of each artist? Because Mai Kuraki is singing her first single.

Just looked at the list. So shocked that Mika is singing Yuki no Hana from last year, and not Sakurairo Maukoro. :no But still, glad that she is not performing Glamorous Sky. And Rimi is performing the same song again for the fourth time. I like that song but to sing that four times in a row? :headache

fairyland seems the most appropriate for the event. I think the subject matter of HEAVEN is too depressing for some people. She probably feels that fairyland is more her song anyway, since she didn't write it specifically for a movie. Either that or she can't sing it good live, which IMO, she can't.

That would most likely be Ayu herself. She's pretty much in control of most aspects of what she does.

This year's Kouhaku's songlist was by a popularity vote. So yup, I think fairyland was selected. I went back to hear my fairyland single again and seriously, it doesn't sound that bad as people make it out to be. Very beautiful PV and the song's not bad and really summery.

I don't think Fairyland was the favorite track of Japanese people, I mean, if it was the sales would be higher than Heaven and Step You and it wasn't. I think not all the things were selected by audience and Avex and Ayumi decided to sing Fairyland because that was the song that they spent lots of money in promotion and stuff.

my name's WOMEN was the favorite by japanese people? Wasn't Walking Proud? In lots of polls it was the number 1 choice and it's the way japanese people like it, they like ballads with beautiful lyrcis.

STEP you/is this LOVE? CD+DVD had the exclusive my name's WOMEN PV as an extra and HEAVEN took a trip on shinobi...fairyland wasn't even promoting anything important so there's no way you can tell what her fans in japan liked better unless we see a poll. The sales difference wasn't even that huge either. Moments was the least sold single of '04 still that song ranked better than CAROLS, GAME and INSPIRE on the TeamAyu Poll :P

I checked back the info and you're right though the 3rd and 4th songs were actually HONEY and my name's WOMEN (probably the 2 most hated songs of MY STORY here in AHS. If ayu were to say she would have sang one of those on the event last year, I bet a lot of ppl would be get shocked at how could she pick her worst songs -when they actually were some of the favorites in Japan). The 2nd in the poll is About You so that means the 3 next songs following walking proud aren't ballads:

The only ballad up there is walking proud actually, the 3 following songs are either upbeat or happy songs. Plus that's untrue that japanese ppl mainly like ballads with beautiful lyrics :rolleyes ai otsuka actually sang "sakuranbo" on kouhaku last year (it was the favorite ai song at that time for japanese ppl, not amaenbo LOL). See in that poll: Moments was the single that sold least in 04, still it was much more favorite than INSPIRE/GAME and CAROLS in that poll :P

I'm not trying to say that fairyland was japanese ppl's favorite ayu song of '05, I'm just trying to defend that it is wrong to assume that it was a wrong decision to choose that song just because some of you considered this her worst song this year. It doesn't necessarily mean that it will be the worst for japanese ppl as well.

No, it's true, actually. Ai Otsuka and BoA are artists that the main and most popular songs are upbeat songs, but this don't change the fact ballads with beautiful lyrics or balladas with R&B are VERY popular in Japan for a long time. Even Utada Hikaru said so in interviews with american media.

I think Ayu is saving Alterna and Will for the new tour. The only song I don't see her performing at the tour is In the Corner.

I know, me too :( maybe he resigned or something. A lot of people seem disapointed :confused I think Fairyland is probably the best choice out of her singles this year. Don't get me wrong, I really like HEAVEN too, but since it's a ballad you can't do much with it in a performance. Fairyland's more upbeat so it'll be more interesting. I think Ayu chose the song herself. She'll do great ^_^ Also, if she did HEAVEN it would go best in white, and that's not a good idea because she's on the red team.

Another perfect performance of Fairyland. I like what Ayu is wearing, very cute and she sounds great. I also like both Yuna Ito and Ai Otsuka performances. Mika looks terrible though, what she is wearing, and the way she stands, OMG, is down right terrifying. Koda Kumi sounds great, and her costume looks Ok in the beginning, but after she pulled away the dress, very BAD. Ami Suzuki sounds bad, out of tune in so many places. Let's see, who else... that's about it. Overall, I did like the Red team performances better, but the White team won. Oh well. Also, that huge tree/umbrella/UFO/or whatever you call it, at the center of the stage looks horrendus and it's so useless. Usually the years before, the scenery changes after a few songs , but that terrible looking design is there for half of the show. If this years show gets the lowest rating in record, I'm sure it's because of that...

A very fair point! In my opinion, Ayu looked kinda lost in front of that thing. On top of that, due to its size and position, the left and the right site of the stage looked quite empty. Too much focus on the center.

Singing fairyland was a good decision. Most people will connect positive memories with the song (~the summer). If she keeps performing ballads all the time, people will get bored of her easily.
