Countdown Live 2002-2003 - what was wrong with Ayu?

Concerning CDL02~03, I read in some other threads that Ayu had the flu while she was singing. Anybody have any info on that? I feel that although her voice didn't sound so good, she sang with all her heart.

devilayu 25th February 2006 05:06 AM

I'm sure she was down with something but I couldn't tell you exactly what with.

Beyond the Sea 25th February 2006 05:12 AM

Im 99% she was sick, when she talks normally she sounds kinda clogged.

hopeorpain 26th February 2006 03:01 AM

yes I believe she was sick during that performance. But I still liked watching it, because she still put in 100% effort, and more emtion than usual.

RubbishMui 26th February 2006 06:07 AM

oh wow..she was sick?? no wonder she was straining herself..

Chibi_Venus 26th February 2006 06:21 AM

I must agree that when I saw performances from that CDL (Real me, Heartplace, Free & Easy, and maybe HANABI) I thought, "Why does Ayu sound... not so good?" Now that I see she was down with something, I have to give her so much credit. :)

Tasked 26th February 2006 03:07 PM

Ayu was definitely sick. Not only in the CDL02'03, but also during some live performances (ie. independent) she almost couldn't sing. That performance was really cute because she does her best even though sometimes she just skips a line =).
Also, I believe Ayu mentioned that she was sick in either a Vivi Deji Deji-magazine or a teamayu diary or anything.

elepop 26th February 2006 05:26 PM

Really? Never knew that.

ayu's voice in CDL02-03

Is it just me or was ayu's voice during the concert like really bad? When I heard it I was like :thud

Was she having throat problems or was it something to do with her eledged smoking?

ayu1m 16th August 2006 06:45 PM

This is kinda OT, but does Ayu smoke o.o ?

HiruNoKaze 16th August 2006 06:47 PM

Hahaha not the smoking again...anyway, yea I've heard around ahs many times that she was pretty sick during that time. I've only seen heartplace from that performance so I'm like wooooooooo. I don't think that one was heavily edited by avex...but yea a lot of the songs on the dvd were edited my avex so you get one song where she sounds sick and another where she sounds fine because they dubbed it over.

edit: ayu1m, I didn't see your post when I posted. Go search for old threads on smoking. I think you will be quite appeased.

Yarumi 16th August 2006 07:40 PM

I remember hearing she had something like bronchitis or something to that extent...

I thought Heartplace sounded good though... I didn't think her voice was so bad... just raspier and kinda squeaky XD

slowmoth 16th August 2006 08:11 PM

no, no... her voice was really bad in 2000 concert tour o_o

Raiu-Ayu 16th August 2006 08:50 PM

^ I like the concert tour 2000. Some of the best lives I've heard

And thankes for the info guys ^_^

I though Ayu sounded fine in the concert besidres her voice was still developing

qwerty 17th August 2006 04:27 AM

Her voice was really low and deep in ARENA TOUR 2005. It kinda turned me off. :(

alt.total-loser 17th August 2006 05:06 AM

I thought she sounded really bad in CDL 05-06. o__o;
You didn't like Arena Tour '05? I /loved/ her voice in that. I adore deep voices. And hate high ones. xP

But yes. She was sick at CDL 02-03.

HiruNoKaze 17th August 2006 06:42 AM

CDL0506??? nooooooooo. She was doing super deep in that one too for some songs. But omg love destiny!!!! FINALLY everytime she redoes an oldie it sounds kickass. Like TO BE on ayuready <dies>. HEAVEN was awesome too. Endless Sorrow!! Wahhhhhhhhh

Are you talking about the TV version? I don't have it yet, I'm still slowly watching the DVD version...

shippo 17th August 2006 07:12 AM

I have the TV ver... and it really quite annoy me with her voice and her incapability to sing in everywhere nowhere ^^a

HiruNoKaze 17th August 2006 07:32 AM

^lol actually I was digressing and discussing CDL0506...but CDL0203 is really too bad. I still want to watch the TV version though.

Yes, she was sick. However, the Heartplace performance was AMAZING. One of her best ever I think. After that though, you could really hear her voice start to give out.

Chibi_Venus 18th August 2006 10:32 PM

^ Bet a strong song like Heartplace did that. :yes

Yarumi 19th August 2006 03:15 AM

yeah... perhaps she overdid it in Heartplace... but oh what a great performance to blow your voice out on!

:love

HiruNoKaze 19th August 2006 07:34 AM

lol since that's the only one I've seen, I do not yet connect CDL0203 to sick vocals like most people...

The set was nice too. And the vocals were epic.

zeroshin888 23rd August 2006 09:17 AM

That explains why her voice sounded so bad on the CDTV Special Live 02-03...

totally agree with ya...but she's alrite in the performance =)

ayumeg 27th August 2006 04:52 AM

I sometimes think that her voice sounds particularly bad in some performances, but then in others it's amazing! Why is that? Does anyone know what affects this?

Kikaru 27th August 2006 06:48 AM

well, we all have days when our voice crack and phlegm, plus Ayu isn't immune to all flus and sickness.

So it's a human thing. Sometimes our voice will sound good, and sometimes bad.

g~sus~ 30th August 2006 12:33 PM

she's so strong....:yeek

pbs1605 31st August 2006 07:00 AM

I imagine when you are healthy it is hard to do a concert so just imagine doing one when you are not well.poor Ayu.

AyuGAME 31st August 2006 04:21 PM

she was sick 99,99%

freedreamer 3rd September 2006 11:49 AM

There's a huge difference between the TV ver. and the DVD... blah, well, much due to that the sound quality of the DVD simply is so much higher, and they strengthen certain sounds (especially the sounds the audience makes).

Didn't they talk about CDL0203 in the NTV Interview 2004? Haven't seen it, but I thought they mentioned it in that one.

Is that why she sounds so much better in the DVD version compared to the live version? Where are you getting this info, btw?

I couldn't believe the difference between the live and DVD versions of her CDL02-03 concert. I was telling someone how bad she sounded when I'd only seen the live version and they said, "What?! She sounded great!" I later found out they had only seen the DVD version. :D I had to see for myself what they were talking about so I watched the DVD version and yep, they were right.

immel 4th September 2006 06:31 AM

^There's been several threads in which the fact that the DVDs are heavily edited are discussed. The facts are based on the evident proof that there are differences between the TV versions and the DVD versions, in the quality of her vocals.

I don't think there's any special thread about the matter itself but it is often brought up in relation to other matters, some of it was discussed here, it's the only place I can remember at this moment.

Hi there by the way! Long time no see!

Jo-chan 4th September 2006 07:44 PM

Thanks for that link. It does make sense that the DVD version was edited. :yes

^but love destiny! ooooooooooooooooooooo

immel 5th September 2006 09:41 AM

Love~destiny~ ain't that good ;]

Dustie 5th September 2006 11:40 AM

Yeah, you can tell the DVD versions have better sound and vocals, they power it up. When watching the TV versions I'm often surprised how the sound seems quiet and her vocals are really raw.

As for lip-syncing, during AT2005, during my name's WOMEN they used her track vocals for one line, when she was doing a high sound and just couldn't sing a normal line at the same time. Doesn't really qualify for lip-syncing, but anyway...

ph33r 6th September 2006 07:03 AM

You could tell she was sick cause she couldn't hit high pitches and when she did hit high pitches, there would be no sound.
