Somehow, I think the most this single will reach is 90 000 for the first week, but PLEASE make me wrong. I want to see a single reach 300 000 copies again, I missed those.. Hopefully the Olympic TV coverage and Onimusha propels it up.. I dont see any real competition too..

i really hope that it sells atleast 150,000 first week. i hope that the low sales for B&D is just temporary. i am worried though because i think that it is release pretty late. the omnimusha game was out since late january and torino olympics is over for weeks now. like fairyland, it was had alot of tie ins, but it was released a month after it has been playing on radio, commercials, etc. fairyland sold well, but i dont think it sold to its full potential.

I'm in Tokyo now and it feels good to know that my purchase of Ayu's new single actually contributed to the sales figures this time. :) I bought it at HMV in Shibuya and when I went all of the copies were gone. I had to ask a shop attendant and they got one from in the back. Koda Kumi's album was selling well too. Compared to Ayu's other album and single releases though Avex has really low balled this one promotion wise. I've only seen one billboard for it and that was in Shibuya and I probabally wouldn't have seen it had I not been specifically looking for it. Also on the release day, Avex sent out a street team w/ a table, megaphone etc only it was to promote Koda Kumi, not Ayu. I haven't seen any commercials for Startin/Born to Be or seen anything in the trains. Weird. I was in Japan when Step You came out last year and there was a lot more promotion I thought.

Ugh that sucks. I wish avex would promote Ayu rather than Koda only more because she's after all a good artist.

Thats nasty.. Avex should be releasing its costing them more than they earn soon by promoting Kumi..

No I think it's more likely avex is focusing all their promotion on Kumi solely rather than Ayu. I mean honestly this single was on a low budget imo. Only few lives and few magazines and the pvs weren't really on a high budget from what I've figured out. I don't think this single will flop but not thanks to avex imo.

EXACTLY. They don't deserve any credit, since Ayu seems to be doing the promotion by appearing at shows and magazines. She generates revenues for them and instead of amplifying the money they get by promoting extensively, they create a single billboard.

Indeed it is so. Well it's no big news. avex has been trying to get a replacement for Ayu since forever and seems they've finally found somebody. I'm happy Ayu still has a strong fanbase though :yes

ayu should change to sony :luv2 :luv2 i notice this for a while now its like avex isnt trying to promote ayu at all.
it also makes me wonder what the Hell is Max Matsuura doing as president of Avex and specialy after what ayu did for him b4 he was selected.:grumpy

Koda doesn't deserve all that promotion since she's mostly selling from her sex appeal and not actual talent. <.< But it's good to hear that Ayu still got #1 even though she had so little promotion.

seriously, thats the dumbest thing i've ever heard in this forum. please stop the kumi bashing.

so what if koda gets more promotion? from avex or any business's prospective u want to get as much profit as possible. albums cost more than singles. thats a fact. and most likely, more people will buy albums over singles. thats another fact. so its only logical for koda to have more promotion than ayu's single, so that more money can be generated. and to add on, its (yes, another) a best album. A BEST probably got about the same or even more promotion than Best~first things~/Best~second session~.
plus, techincally, koda isnt even part of the avex 'main' group. shes part of rhythm zone.

Basically, Koda is sort of talented, but she really doesn't deserve the spotlight that she does get.

I'm happy for Ayu and hope that she breaks the record and continues to set it higher.

I also agree that Kumi is probably getting more because of the fact that it's an album they're promoting. If I had to choose which to promote more, it'd be Kumi. Ayu is already established, while Kumi's fanbase is still developing, especially after her recent releases. Rhythm Zone wants to seal the deal with prospective fans, as it were.

I'm not surprised by the rankings, this single is completely on par with 'STEP you' and should do as well.

Thanks to whoever pointed it out that koda is a Rhythm Zone artist, not directly an Avex artist - more like an 'avex group' artist. RZ is avex's biggest sub-label - very few people even know that verbal and taku (m-flo) are the presidents of the subsidiary; they're getting a good chunk of this koda kumi money that everyone's talking about, even before max matsuura gets his dividends.

Boys & Girls, A, SEASONS, and some other singles even stayed for about three weeks, if I remember clearly.

Voyage was #1 in the weeklies for the first 3 weeks. That's Ayu record. STEP you, Dearest, H and Moments were all #1 for the first 2 weeks. The rest were mostly for one week. But I don't know about the dailies. I know that STEP you wasn't #1 in the dalies for 14 days. But still, the 2nd week had enough #1s to make her top the weeklies once more.

Oh also these stats are excluding 1998/1999/2001 singles as I don't have those kind of statistics for them.
