Straight to the point. Just list five J-Pop artists/bands and the first song of theirs that you listened to. It doesn't have to be the song that got you to like them, just the first song, full-stop. Oh, and I mean five artists that aren't Ayu. :P You can describe how or when you listened to the song, too. I'll start off.

01. Kumiko Koda — real Emotion.
[ I was really into FFX-2 at the time. It was a couple of years ago. I was looking for JADE of SWEETBOX's version (the English one featured on FFX-2) and I stumbled across Koda's and gave it a download. ]

03. Hitomi Shimatani — Garnet Moon, technically.
[ I was browsing random avex pages, and I stumbled upon Shimatani's. It wasn't long ago, 'cause the CM for Heart & Symphony was up there. Garnet Moon was the first segment, so I watched that. So technically, Garnet Moon is my first. But right after that on the H&S CM, Falco and Sky High play, so they're firsts too. ]

fra-foa - Aojiroi tsuki (I can't even remember how I got into them, but this was the only song I had from them for a while)

I often start with the first song off any album because I acquire them as a whole (download/buy/borrow), so that pretty much explains two of these except for Ringo-chan (downloaded it randomly off the net), BoA (ditto) and fra-foa (was the first file in my alphabetically arranged folder). I tried to pick out some I didn't hear through albums.

Shiina Ringo - Kokode Kiss Shite; not an ideal start (the acapella opening surprised me) and it didn't convince me straightaway either, but it got me interested enough to check out more Ringo-stuff. Glad I did. =D

UA - The Color of Empty Sky; only got into her just last year, but it was love at first hearing.

fra-foa - Afterglow; beautiful song from 13 Leaves. fra-foa became one of my favourite bands.

Utada Hikaru - Sakura Drops; still brilliant.

BoA - Number One; how appropriate. :)

Namie Amuro - NEVER END

I heard this through a performance I accidentally downloaded off the once existing WinMX and I thought it was a beautiful song. Still one of my favorite songs and possibly one of Namie's best pieces.

Utada Hikaru - First Love

My cousin actually sent me this song and I thought it was the most beautiful love song I had EVER heard. I was obsessed with it and I really have so many fond memories with this song. The first time I heard it was also the day before my first time attending Anime Expo (I'm over Anime now but it was still good times in the past). So yeah still one of my favorite Top 10 songs ever.

Ayaka Hirahara - Jupiter

Well the first time I heard this I was like WTF is the hype? This song isn't that great, BIG WHOOP! But slowly this song really, REALLY grew on me and it became a very empowering piece when I was down. Beautiful piece, however it wasn't until "Niji no Yokan" did I really get into Ayaka Hirahara. (As a matter of fact "Niji no Yokan" just started playing!)

Otsuka Ai - Sakuranbo

Well I heard all the HYPE around this single and I decided to check it out. Downloaded the PV and was HOOKED ever since. Still one of the catchiest songs EVER and I never seem to get sick of it. I miss good Otsuka.

Rie fu - Life is Like a Boat

I was watching CDTV, which I love because it gives little previews of all the top 100 songs and their PVs and it's a good way to sample music, so Rie fu's hit single came on and I got really curious cause the melody was nice and her ENGLISH was GOOD too! (Rare in Japanese music HAHA) Anyways at first me and my sister just kept making fun of the title cause it was weird, well at the time anyways haha, and never really thought to actually LISTEN to it. However I somehow did and was IN LOVE! and I PRE-ORDERED her self-titled debut album IMMEDIATELY and was in love since. I am SO excited for the moment I can get my hands on her second masterpiece "ROSE ALBUM".

I'm going to repeat this, for all people who think to include Ayu as one of their five in future.

1.Namie Amuro-Her whole Queen of Hip-Pop album, I was so curious as to what she sounded like so I gave her a try b/c I was hearing so many good things about her, and people were giving that album at least 4/5 stars so I dl it and now I'm a huge Namie fan.

2.BoA-Valenti which I say is one of her best songs got me to like her a lot, and her song Valent (korean) got me into liking korean music like Wheesung, Kang Ta, Se7en and that's it so far.

3.Koda Kumi-Selfish, my step-brother said he saw this music video and was so curious that when he finished he saw the sexiest woman in the world dancing extremely naughty this also including Shake It, but Selfish was the one that came on first, and that's why I'm a Koda fan now.

4.Daichi Miura-Again Like Namie I was hearing good things about him, and I'm still waiting for his pv's but my three favorites from his album are I-N-G, Southern Cross, and Word!(love it!).

5.DAI-Raven, wow that song was just so beautiful it made plenty of room for more DAI, and again I kept on hearing so many good things I request songs, and someone posted that Raven was one of their best so I dl'd it and what do you know, now they're one of my favorite bands.

I looked at the Oricon charts and I saw a pretty new artist I didn't hear about (yet!) with 2 singles in the top 10 (Amaenbo and Sakuranbo). I decided to download "Amaenbo" and I liked it a lot. It's not one of my current Ai-chan favourites though.

Kumi Koda - Cutie Honey

I went on a website with tons of CMs. I downloaded the "j-pop cm pack" which had CMs of Ayu, Namie, and of course, Kumi's LOVE & HONEY single CM. I thought she looked awesome in the CM, and the song was so great. I still love it even today, it's one of my KK favourites.

Every Little Thing - Time goes by

I heard this song on Music Station quite a few times and I thought it sounded pretty. I downloaded it, loved it and fell in love with ELT. Nothing more to add.

Morning Musume - Roman ~MY DEAR BOY~

Gosh, I loved this song so much when it came out! It sounded so fresh and brand new. (and it was!) I found it on a j-pop mp3 rotation website. I thought it was SO catchy. Today I don't think it's as awesome as I used to think but I like it :)

aiko - Hanakaze

Back in 2004, a friend of mine introduced me to aiko. (He's akatsuki here at AHS :P) He sent me aiko's brand new single "Hanakaze" (at the time) and I found her voice totally gorgeous. I became a fan instantly =)

I wanted to try out some male Japanese singers, and had heard lots about gackt so i checked online. First song I found was Vanilla, and I HATED it completely. I deleted it and waited another 6 months before listening to him again :laugh. I still don't think it's that good a song even now.

X-Japan - Sadistic Desire

Like with Vanilla, i HATED X-Japan's Sadistic Desire, i thought Toshi couldn't sing and just disliked the whole package. Fastforward a few months and I'd become a huge fan of the band and i actually love that song now :laugh

Bonnie Pink - It's Gonna Rain

I heard this on the end of Rurouni Kenshin (i think it was the second or third ending song). I loved Bonnies Voice and still do today, she's one of my favourite singers ^^

Noriko Sakai - Pure

Nori-P, the FIRST EVER Jpop singer i listened to, which would in effect make this the first Jpop song i ever listened to. Such an excellent song from such an excellent singer. Still found floating around on cd's scattered throughout my house ^^

3) CORE OF SOUL - Flying People (I love this song so much, its so spirit lifting and inspirational. Fukiko's voice = heavenly.)

5) Chihiro Onitsuka - Gekkou (Still gives me the chills. She's so amazing. Her ballads are up there with Mika's. One of the most expressive voices in JPop, along with Ayumi and Ringo. Her lyrics are on the same level as Ayu's, if not somewhat better in some songs. Onitsuka, if you are reading this...we need you to come back, desperately.)

BoA: well, one night i decided to stay up late. i was flipping thru TV channels, and i saw a really cool looking anime...it was Inuyasha. it was at the last five minutes of the episode, and everything was getting wrapped up. so i was JUST about to change when i heard a beautiful voice.....it was BoA singing Every Heart. so Every Heart was my first BoA song.

Do As Infinity: well after i heard Every Heart on that episode, i was looking for the name of the artist...which i didnt know was BoA....and so i got on limewire, and typed in Inuyasha, and tons of stuff came up. so i saw a song titled : Inuyasha - Ending Theme....so i was like, oh yay! i think this might be it! so i downloaded, and listened, and it was guitar music. so i was like aww.....its not her....so i decided to at least give this song a chance....it was Fukai Mori. since then, Do As Infinity has been my favorite band ever. and even though theyre gone, theyre still the best.

Utada Hikaru: well, one saturday morning, my friend called me wanting help on kingdom hearts. so i didnt know anything about the game, and read him a boss strategy....and he said thanks and asked me if i ever played it....i said no, and he suggested it.....that was 4 years ago. last spring, i decided to go to gamestop and buy a few games....well while brwosing thru the ps2 games, i saw kingdom hearts...and i was like, omg didnt he recommend this to me a long time ago? so i bought it and brought it home not knowing what to expect....so i played til the opening theme...and yu all know what this was....so i was hooked on it...then i went to a game forum, and asked who sang it....the guy said Utada...and didnt give the Hikaru. so i got on limewire again, and searched for Utada. i saw tons of stuff from Exodus 04'. after downloading some, i was like, grrr this isnt the song....so i ran a search for Utada and i found a streaming website for her music....and i listened to Simple and Clean Planitb mix...and it was it! but then the words...were in Japanese....and i was like, omg i dont wanna hear this....so then my computer froze up, and i couldnt stop the song....it was soooo good...so yea...my first Utada song was Simple and Clean planitB mix.


Morning Musume:
after discovering Ayu on an episode of Inuyasha, i ran a search on limewire....and i saw a video clip called, Morning Musume impersonates Ayu. so i downloaded, and it was a girl makign fun of UNITE!. so i then ran a search for Morning Musume, and found a song called Souda! We;re Alive!. it scared me a bit....so i went away....then it grew on me fast, and now they are my favorite girl group. so my first song was Souda! We're Alive!

Koda Kumi:
one summer day, i was talking to my bestest friend, Princess of Roses. she asked me if i had ever heard of Kumi...so i said no, and she sent me Hott Stuff. i didnt expect much....but i loved it! so my first Kumi song was Hott Stuff.

also if yu havent guessed already, Ayu was discovered from Inuyasha...when i heard Every heart, after i searched for Inuyasha on limewire, and downloading Fukai Mori, i saw one called 3rd Ending....and i thought this would be BoA....but it was Ayu....and yea the rest included making Princess of Roses like her, downloading lots more, and now look where i am! with yu all! YAY *throws confetti*

I was trying to find more BoA songs, and instead I tumbled upon a lady named "Ayumi". So I gave her a try and picked this song. It was very upbeat and soon enough I was memorising the lyrics!

Okay, I was a TT fan back then, I loved that theme song but I always caught it at the end and never the full song. So I found it and it was in japanese! Catchy ne?

Oh wow, a random love song on an mp3 site, and downloaded it. His voice sounded so scratchy and I never wanted to listen to that song again (I do now..) buuut.. It lead me to find more of myv's songs =)

- This song is actually a track off DOUBLE's 3rd album "Vision" but at the time I didn't know that. I believe I got it off a mp3 rotation site and was hooked. It might be a simple R&B track but for some reason I'm in love with it.

SOULHEAD - Step to the new World
- Another Mp3 I ended up running up on at an mp3 rotation site. I remember listening to it and was like "OMG this is HOT". Been a fan of theirs ever since.

MISIA - ESCAPE
- Yes I use to be a Mp3 rotation site junkie and this was a song I stumbled up on. This song was so fast and powerful that I was literally shocked. I had never heard a song like that (even in the A-pop industry) so it definetly left a impression on me.

hitoe - Inori
I got this mp3 off WINMX and I fell in love with it. I don't know why but this may be my favorite song of all time. I know U guys are saying "she must be crazy" because hitoe's voice isn't the greatest in the world but something about this song is extremely catchy. I just saw the video on YOUTUBE and it made me fall in love with the song all over again.
