ayu_fan929 17th May 2006 09:29 PM

both Startin' and (m)u have gone below the 1,000/week mark.... :(

edit: (m)u will probably lose the title of being the best selling original album by next week, as Def Tech takes over.

elepop 17th May 2006 10:46 PM

Thanks for the updates!

Axel_Grease 18th May 2006 12:56 AM

Eek! Startin'/BTB... and (m)u sales are so low. V_V

AyuGAME 18th May 2006 01:02 AM

thanks

krishna 18th May 2006 04:07 AM

Sales are so bad!
But thanks for the info

extepan 18th May 2006 06:15 AM

thanks for the info
there is no way MU and startin will break the magic milestones

sexysaucestar 18th May 2006 08:15 AM

^ Yeah, I'll have to agree :( In some ways, I think Ayu is being overshadowed right now by the "it" artists...

immel 18th May 2006 08:53 AM

I can't say I'm anything else than impressed by the sales staying like this, even after 8 years and many new "it" artists coming and going.

~X2RADialbomber~ 18th May 2006 09:04 AM

That's really good for Ayu, sadly though the numbers are really slow

Daking 18th May 2006 09:24 AM

Although she might not make the magical numbers in sales, these numbers are still respectable. With all the different types of music out there, drop in sales are to be expected as time goes on. I'm sure now more than ever the people buying her albums are the diehard fans. so if she can continually get 800k on her albums i see nothing wrong.

truehappiness 18th May 2006 09:26 AM

Does anyone from Ayu's era even sell as well as she does? :/

[like a debut in 98/99~?]

Yukitora 18th May 2006 11:00 AM

^Well basically all her singles in 98 sold less than Startin'/Born to Be (although Trust is only around 3k less) but no other single except Bold & Delicious/Pride has sold that low ever except for remix singles. ASFXX sold 1.4mil.

What a big percentage drop O_O

alternarist 18th May 2006 12:54 PM

thanks for the update! but the sales of (miss) understood is really bad! it has not even hit 900,000! :no

CREA.tive 18th May 2006 01:02 PM

:nosad news:(

nathy_morales 18th May 2006 01:21 PM

Hum...not good sales
But i read that the CDL is in #2, so, it can't be so bad, hum?
Thank you for the info

darkswordz 18th May 2006 02:40 PM

oh no :thud

spacelion 19th May 2006 12:30 AM

(m)u is so close! Just 142,543 to go!

immel 19th May 2006 12:43 AM

^If she keep on selling around 1000 copies/week that means it'll take her 130~ weeks to reach one million. She won't stay on the charts for another 2.6 years ;)

LEOyumi 19th May 2006 01:51 AM

These are not bad sales O_o' The sales have been dropping from a long time, it would come a day that her single/album would stop selling =P

Daking 19th May 2006 06:02 AM

^these aren't good. but like i said in my previous post, there's a point where the fickle fans drop off and we reach her devoted fans, its just a matter of where that point is. if she can pull 700k+ w/out the fickle fans she'll be ok.

Well I'm being realistic here. Def Tech's album in 3 weeks have already sold 792k. Last week they sold like 128k. They only need to sell 75k to pass (m)u. (m)u will still be the highest female selling orginal album though. She will only for sure have this title until we see how ULTRA BLUE does though.

perfectdeath 20th May 2006 04:24 AM

>_< doesn't look like its gonna hit 900,000 either

Dgirl 20th May 2006 04:28 AM

How long can we see S/B break 200k?

darkswordz 20th May 2006 10:41 AM

may be 20 more weeks?

immel 20th May 2006 05:52 PM

30?

Daking 21st May 2006 03:39 AM

could be this week if we band together and buy 14,898 copies this week. Who's with me?!

Pow! 21st May 2006 03:52 AM

Oh,,
It was so bad,,
Umm,, was it only for the japanese version, or for the whole version around the world??
:(

emi♡ 21st May 2006 04:01 AM

^^ I think they only count the versions sold in Japan right? they dont count like Yesasia, or do they?

sales are low everywhere...it's to be expected. I think Def Tech might surpass her though. I think she might hit 900,000 though.

ayu_fan929 21st May 2006 04:46 AM

^Yes, Japan only. Only a few countries in the world actually have sale trackers like Oricon.

Daking 21st May 2006 05:07 AM

well then i guess sadly our members in japan must pick up the slack! :D

~_~ Yukitora~! I meant the people who came out around the same time as Ayu [female solo artists]..

are they even selling as well as Ayu right now?

freedreamer 22nd May 2006 12:28 PM

lets go japan and buy (m)u until it reaches 1 mill...haha

emi♡ 23rd May 2006 01:42 AM

I was just on iTunes, and today's top vids (Japan) are

1. Startin' original mix
3.Born To Be... original mix

Before I really didn't think that iTunes could be a factor in sales...but maybe it is. Everyone's downloading now, and iTunes is really more convenient...maybe a lot of people have turned to downloads. The video is only 400 yen...

So if you buy both songs at 200 yen each plus the two vids at 400 yen...that's 1200 yen.

elepop 23rd May 2006 01:52 AM

Ayu's album is the highest non-best-of albums in that list, so that makes me happy! :)

Well, the RIAJ did state that of all digital downloads, downloads through the mobile/cell phone make up 96%. So I'd think that cellphone music services like Chaku-Uta are way more popular than iTunes.

Here's the TOP 100 for the 3 different types of downloads on Chaku-Uta (Full song, Ringtones, Vids)
http://recochoku.jp/recochoku_ranking/full.html (Full song; HEAVEN is at #86)
http://recochoku.jp/recochoku_ranking/movie.html (Vids; HEAVEN at #35, fairyland at #79)
http://recochoku.jp/recochoku_ranking/uta.html (Ringtones)
http://recochoku.jp/recochoku_ranking/all.html (Overall)

I'd like to know that too!

No, not really.

No idol female of any other label than avex is selling anything at the moment. People "competing" with ayu in the beginning was basically mai kuraki, aiko, suzuki ami and morning musume. during about 200o other female idols came like koda, otsuka, matsuura, aiuchi, shimatani, aya ueto etc. it was booming. Most of these artists have had good sales, but are now hardly reaching the top ten.
None of them compare to ayumi (except for perhaps ootsuka at the moment, well see about next year though) in single sales, but in album sales quite a few have reached high numbers. As from what I can see, the only label being able to keep their female idols fresh and popular is avex (except for aiko perhaps...?). The females who have "survived" all or gained popularity all have some "special" skill that before the time of ayumi wasen't common among traditional idol girls. THis includes song writing (otsuka), composing (otsuka), sexy erotic image replacing "girl next door" or "kawaii" (koda), or simply being an overly popular niche artist like mika nakashima or namie amuro. This would also explain H!Ps drastic fall in sales. the style is simply not a la mode at the moment.

I think it's quite amazing how namie amuro has managed to reclaim the charts so lang after her golden days though, but I don't think this would have bben possible if she stuck to her old music. Look at what happened to ami suzuki....

ayu_fan929 24th May 2006 02:20 AM

^yep. avex owns in the solo female category.

truehappiness 24th May 2006 02:47 AM

:/

Single-wise we can still say Ayu is doing fabulously. :]

After all, she is! :p Boybands and drama theme songs.. blah. If only Ayu was more promoted for that single~
