Year you became a fan of Ayu?
 

What year (and month, if you can remember) did you become a fan of Ayu? Not including the first time you heard her (unless you became a fan at that time).

For me, it was probably in May or July 2001. I was looking through a lyrics site when I stumbled upon the lyrics and mp3 for "M". From then on, I was a fan. However, I didn't start buying until March 2002, the release of Daybreak, partially because I didn't know how to.

I want to see how many "veteran" Ayu fans there are here - who've been a fan for over four years - and I'm even more interested in seeing how many fans from Ayu's early days are here as well.

Haha, I became a fan of Ayu's in 2001 with the song "evolution" but I didn't start buying her stuff until 2005. ^^;

I think around november/december 2004... the period between the release of "CAROLS" and "MY STORY"... since then i became a fan, but i know ayumi since 2002 (the first i heard was the remix Hex Hector did for "Endless sorrow")

2003, with the release of the Angels Song PV. I wish I liked her sooner than that.

September 2004, when listening first to "Moments", then to "CAROLS"

During the beginning of summer in 2005, after I had heard some of her best songs/singles. I was introduced to Ayu in like Nov. of 2004.

2005 around the time HEAVEN was released, because I saw a CM of the Lumix FX9 camera and heard Will, that was great...

When LOVEppears came out.

I heard her in 2002, and I borrowed my friend's "&" single. I liked her music, but really never bothered to find more. But I really got into her music around 2004, around Carols.

October 2003... but my first time listening to her was in September.

I've been a fan of her work since about 2001. The song was "boys & girls." Needless to say, I still buy all her albums and even back them up to a mp3 cd so they won't get scratched up. ^_^:innocent

2005, when Bold & Delicious came out :yes

A bit before LOVEppears/appears came out. I believe some time between that and when A was released. I stumbled across an As If... mp3 and became addicted very quickly.

Spring (maybe March) 2003. A BALLADS was the new thing.

I believe I bought something from her that winter.

I became a fan with RAINBOW. It's my favorite ayu album :D

I became a fan in the middle of 2002--when I first heard a few of her songs from my friend ^^ From that point on, I was determined to buy all the albums...^^;

Can't believe I've been a fan for 4 years now o_O But my friend (KillTime111) has actually been a fan since 2000 or maybe even 1999.....

2002 when she performed in MTV Asia Awards.
But,I start to buy her albums at 2003.

January 2000, a singaporean friend of mine sent me a vcd with some videos and I started to like her ^^

I first hated her in 1999, then I loved her in 2001, and became a 'die-hearted' fan somewhere during 2002 (rainbow....)

December 2005, Boys & Girls got me hooked when i first listened to it.

2002, though I don't remember what month, but I remember it was around late summer.

For me, my fren's a Ayu fan and i've heard Ayu's music b4 (dun remember when, but sometime after evolution was released) Then i saw My Story in Music Junction and decided to buy it since it was advertised on TV (very short advertisement, if u ask me) After that i was just hooked.<3

I think on the summer of 2003... Maybe before that.

1999

i became a fan of ayu in the year 2000. i fell in love with her leopard image and my mum bought Duty as a birthday present for me that year! and ever since, i have been supporting ayu!

2005. Took me STEP you to finally take notice of her, but I've been hooked ever since.

spring of 2001, i previewed her brand new evolution single online and previewed the m single and immediately bought both.

^ Wow, I'm amazed you preview evolution online o_o Considering back then, it was kind of hard to get many good downloads and stuff...o_o! Hehe...it was before the age of YSI and the like.

I got my first Ayu album RAINBOW in the june of 2005 :D

well, it was on a site like amazon where you can buy cds but you can also preview 30 second clips. i can't remember what site it was though, but i'm thinking it may have been angelpop.net (which later turned into yesasia.com).

totally. i figured there would be way more people in here who had been a fan way longer than i have. i thought you'd been a fan longer for example. its crazy to think that i've been an ayu fan for 5 years, and i'm still not tired of her! :yatta

My friend got A BEST for her birthday back when it had just come out in Japan, in 2001. I loved it so much, that I got a copy for myself a few months later.

I was.... 1999. can't really remember which year. but should be right after A song for xx album.

This year i became a fan...I liked Step you..but when Heaven came out i was totally into her music..but i dont like her earlier stuff lol ^^

2001/2002

So many replies so quickly! It's so interesting to see how you guys got into Ayu. Well, when I heard her, mp3s were not as popular as they are now (though still popular), and I found the M mp3 on a lyrics page!

late 2002, I think

I got my first Ayumi CD in March 2004. I heard a bit about her before - I saw a few pics of her which immediately caught my eye because of her different look - but was a bit wary after hearing she had a bit of a squeaky voice (jpop's made me much more open to other types of music now!)

Anyway I got BoA's Valenti and really loved the ballads especially Winding Road (dunno why I loved it so much, it's still great but now I think Sekai no Katasumide is way better) I wasn't really a ballad person before, I usually thought they were just "filler" tracks. BoA's song made me want to find more great ballads. I looked up Ayumi on yesasia and saw the A Ballads cover and thought it was really cool. I read reviews and decided to buy it, even though I wasn't previously a huge fan of ballads and if I was trying to get into a new artist would have never considered buying a whole album full of them.

But as soon as I heard Rainbow, I realised even if the rest of the album was utter crap it didn't matter (of course it wasn't!) I'd never heard a song like Rainbow before, the opening notes were so beautiful and Ayumi's vocals were perfect. And there were the added techno/dancey & gospel elements in the song which I wasn't expecting and had never heard them mixed together in the one song before.

I think the first thing that made me buy an Ayumi CD was definately the A Ballads cover, I was just like "wow I have to buy this CD - it's such a creative/different cover". Especially for a CD which is was a best of.

late spring/early summer of 2005. of course, i got curious as to who sang the song Dearest on Inuyasha, so i got on limewire and saw all of these songs...i was amazed...so i went crazy over her Duty and I Am stuff...and now look at me! i have all of her albums (not including the two compilations and mini album, but i can get those late) and about 8 singles. i'm planning on finishing my discography by December of this year! of course, i wont be able to get the 8cm singles thought...but luckily they rereleased them...i may come across them someday though...MWAHAH i even have most of the limited singles. i just need AUDIENCE,FLY HIGH, and DAYBREAK and i'm done....oh yea, and i might want to say, im the one who crammed Ayu down Princess_of_Roses's throat enough to make her like her LOL. i got my first Ayu product in September last year. it was ARENA TOUR 2005 MY STORY (JAPAN VERSION). i got my first cd around October. it was actually A Song for XX,LOVEppears,Duty, and I Am in one package. then later i got RAINBOW,MY STORY, and (miss) understood. (around late November, then December, and (miss) understood came around late January) my singles, (vogue,Far away,SEASONS,evolution,UNITE! and Kanariya came with RAINBOW) then i got Appears single for my birthday (November 25th) and my bestest friend ever (Princess of Roses) bought me the SURREAL single. that was around February i think...but i was too sick to really enjoy it around that time when it came. and i havent even mentioned my lives. i have all of her lives except for CDL 01/02 and CDL 02/03 for obvious reasons, and CDL 05/06 cuz i havent had a chance to buy it yet...Momusu was stopping me LOL...so i have a huge collection of Ayu compared to my ARENA TOUR 2005 in September. gosh i went way off topic.

2003

It's hard for me to say when I got into Ayu. I discovered her by looking at a website that listed the top 10 songs in Japan. Seasons was #1; I downloaded it and loved it. Sometime later I went on Yesasia and bought A Best. I guess I got into her around 2000-2001.

I became an Ayu fan in May 2003 :)

I remember having seen Ayu on the internet and listening to "evolution", so I asked my mother if she could find it in the Philippines.. And she did :D

I'm so happy I took intrest in her music!

I first got into her back when I was like 10... with teddy bear and For My Dear. xD I even learned the beginning piano music to teddy bear! It was really fun~ and then I went on an Ayu-hiatus where I didn't do much related to Ayu until 2 or 3 years later.

I saw the & single and was immediately rehooked into Ayu with the PVs and wonderful music that was on that single <3

That's around the same time for me, although I became a fan because of I am... and RAINBOW.

2000!

I first heard her in 2001 when Dearest was out, but I become a fan 4 years later with STEP you :P I wish I followed her more closely before last year. I was in Japan and she was everywhere!

For me it was 2003. Maybe October or November. I heard about Ayu in kind of a funny way, that time blend challenges were very popular, and in one challenge the subject was 'Your favourite singer' and someone had made it of Ayu. I had never heard of her, so I got interested and downloaded Real me. I really liked it and downloaded couple more, RAINBOW, Boys&Girls, A song for XX, M. After a while I became kind of bored, since I didn't understand a single word, so that was it. But couple of months later in 2004, I don't remember how but I suddenly thought of Ayu again. I found out there was a new single coming out, Moments, and I already found the PV of it and watched it. I fell in love. And now, couple of years later, I'm here. My Ayu website just turned 2 years old XD Ayu still is my favourite singer and she's my idol, and I love her. I wouldn't change these fandom years at all, I'm happy to be where I am now. ^__^

First album I got was Duty, yes. And that was around. . .Early 2005, maybe? o_o

For me, becoming a fan of Ayu was like love at first sight. Though it took me a while to discover all her songs, I didn't stop listening to her music since the first time I heard her music. I must admit, there were some intervals during which I listened to other artists, but I always returned to Ayu. ;)

Let's see, what month was it.. I know it was fall 2004, because it was before the release of My Story. Oh, I guess you can look at the "Join date" in my profile to see the exact month.

Late 2005, around the release of B&D/Pride. But I think it was fairyland that really got me interested in her.

well, i became a fan during the first few months of 2005. I think it was after the release of My Story. the first song i listened to was Fly High. I didn't download My Story until this year lol XD

I became a real fan during the early summer 2004. But I had listened to her some time before that too.

November 2005

erm... around 2000~2001...

I got into Ayu on January of 2003, I heard first Dearest and No More Words of Inuyasha then downloaded more songs of her, song I became fan of Ayu was Real Me, I thought back then that she is awsome (and still is), Ayu got me generally into Jpop, through here I discovered Gackt-sama

I remember clearly that I got her A BEST by accident in spring of 2004 and during all the spring I was drowning in her songs. It was an unforgettable period for me. Since then I have fallen in love with her and collected her every album and songs.

hmmn.. discovered ayu around the early nov 1999 (yeah... LOVEppears and appears cd covers.. so fashion..). I dun think I really become ayu's fan until the mid jan of 2000 (when my bro bought LOVEppears). I have gone thru the really love (Duty) --> not really love (I am... + RAINBOW) --> back to really love ayu (Memorial address till now) state. So yeah I should be the 2nd generation ayu fan :P LOL

(I wonder if there are still lots of 1st gen ayu fan.. like started loving her since A Song for xx)

I don't remember when I first heard her Inuyasha songs but I heard evolution in autumn '03, that's when I really started looking for more info about her. In winter/spring '04 I got to listen to all her albums and became a major fan.

When "forgiveness" came out, so late 03' WOW it's been that long O__O

2003 because I remember A museum just barely came out and around that time I listened to "No way to say" and got hooked! lol

I became a fanboy (LMAO) on July 2005 ^_^ like most newbies to Ayu i started with Evolution :D i even devoted myself to learn the lyrics (which i did) :yes i need to learn more tho ehehe
