I need help....My media player is set at code 2(i can't change it anymore), but something is wrong, my code 2 disc won't play properly. it either freeze my player(media player, divx, vlc) or there's no sound(when i sucessfully play it on media player, and i DID not turn it mute. but, when my sister plays her vcd on media player, there's sound. Later on, i rip BlueBird dvd out with DVD Descripter, but there's no sound when i play it with my media player.
Days ago, truehappiness found me a nice software to make my computer region free, after installing it. i tried to play my code 2 dvd, but it won't play, all my players freeze. later, i tried with code 3 disc, this time it plays , but no sound. therefore, i suspect there's someting wrong with my settings. Can anyone help me out here? .......anyone.....please help.... |
What software did truehappiness suggest to you?
Do you get any sound at all out of your computer? can you play mp3s? oh right your sis can play VCD... absolutely no error messages from any of your video programs? |
one of the software in this site. since there are no seeders, he got me in YSI(so i'm not sure which one is it).
but my player had no sound before i got this software and DVD descripter....so i'm trying to find out the problem. i'm guessing it might be the settings or something. since my sister manage to play her vcd. it's only dvd that has this problem. link |
Do you remember anything around the time when your computer started doing that? Anything you could've possibly done to cause this? Any prior problems? Any problems you already had?
|
i think my sister did something with the settings of my media player.....she was trying to play her code 2 disc, so she used the media player, and set it to code 2. it was the last try, but somehow she told me the disc is not playing at first, after a few try when it did, the disc will hang. so, she did change the default stuff like the langugues settings and the subtitles...
|
She only messed with your windows media player? Cause you're saying there are problems with all your media players... It's weird if she only messed with windows media player and somehow affected basic settings that affect the whole computer. I think that when she changed the region code, it was actually the region code for the DVD drive. It makes sense that if she messed around with the settings for the DVD drive, any problems would affect all programs trying to read DVDs. It would explain why VCDs work fine, since they don't have regions. Hmmm you said you tried a region 3? But if you're stuck at region 2, how could region 3 have worked?
|
because truehappines got me a software to make it region free....and i manage to play the code 3 disc but without sound! then, i recall that when i played Bluebird(code2) or rip it with DVd Descripter, there's no sound.....
that's when i guess there's something wrong..... |
Ok so it can't be the DVD drive itself, since the same thing happens with isos. Has to be something wrong in the software, but at the windows level, not anything wrong with a specific program. Maybe it's the codecs. When you play DVDs, does it always play, but without sound? Does it still freeze?
Also, try turning off truehappiness's program and trying both region 2 and region 3. When you try region 3, it should reject it, but I'm wondering if a settings window will pop up, maybe showing us what your sister messed with. |
about your 1st q. no. it do not always play...my player will freeze....and if it manage to play, there no sound....
or, no sound, play a couple of minutes, my player will freeze too. i will be try with my code 3 disc later. i need to go to the bank..... edit: yes. after i disable it, the player did prompt me the settings. |
What kind of settings did it prompt you with? Man seriously this is weird...
|
This problem has not occured to me before...try searching the help section?

i think my sisiter change other settings too...from 'play', there's the langugue, subtitles settings. she did something to that. and something with the enhancements too..... can you check for me what are yours settings of the 'audio and languge' and 'subtitles'. |
I dont know if it can be helpful but why dont you try to play dvd with programs like Powerdvd?
|
Audio and language, and subtitles, are DVD specific, so mine are greyed out because I don't have a disk in my drive right now. So they shouldn't matter. When you have the DVD in, just make sure something is selected for audio and language, I suppose. Umm are all enhancements disabled? Also, is parental control disabled in the options menu? Although if VLC is messing up in the same way, and all your other players are too, then the problem is probably deeper somehow.
|
yes. i can't play in ALL players....not even PowerDVD. Vash had just burn for me some anime in DVD-Rs, they won't play either....
|
I posted sth at the SG thread you always visit...
anyway DVD+ are more friendly... anyway if nothing works and you dun know how to reset the settings...just reinstall everything and try again...do update me at the SG thread...I dun think I will visit here often... |
I'd just uninstall the DVD Region thing~
And then try again :] |
^i did reinstall the DVD region. it did not work.
Pulsar...how am i gonna reinstall everything when err.....after installing some programs, i delete the package? like the latest media player. or i either forget where i save the package when i first download them....especially some packages names are different from the program names.... but i can reinstall my VLC and DIVX. i still see them in my folder... |
Can you play regular media files just fine?
Is there any other computer in the house you can test on? :o |
i only can't play DVD.
my music, pvs, drama, anime....all files save in the computer plays well. for outer soucre, my cd, CD-Rs and vcd plays normal too, the problem occurs with my DVDs only...even DVD+Rs failed to play.... and this is the only computer.... |
I don't see any reason why isos mounted with daemon tools on a virtual drive wouldn't work... That's saying that the problem is a software problem not affecting media in general, only all DVD-playback, yet the problem is not specific to the DVD drive. It seems to be a problem, fundamentally, with the DVD playback...perhaps something wrong with the process by which DVDs are decoded during playback. Maybe reinstalling something would fix it, but I have no idea what you could try reinstalling...
|
the problem starts after i use the last try of media player to set the region code.....
|
When did you purchase your DVD drive?
|
it's in my CPU. my dad bought the computer like 2 years ago.....
|
Ok so your drive is rpc2. That means the number of times you can change the region is hard-wired into the drive. Therefore, I don't see any reason why using up all the region-changes would cause a software problem. If we can't figure out any other options, is it possible for you to reinstall windows?
|
^reinstall windows??? how to do that?
so far, i just reinstall my VLC, Divx player.... |
Umm windows reinstall should be possible with windows xp cd...if you REALLY wanna kill this problem, you can try backing up all your data and using your restore disk to restore the computer to factory condition (assuming you didn't custom make your computer). Then you would have to reinstall EVERYTHING afterwards.
|
...hmmm..i don't quite understand...

LOL....Lacus...this was the thing I suggested to you when you visited me the other day....remormatting the computer...the backup can kill if you have lots of media....the reformatting won't take exactly super long...like say 2 hours- 3 hours...including installing all you hardware/software drivers ....excluding updating your software from the net....and you are gonna ask me how to do that....backup 1st then...when you are ready...contact me again...(no guarantee!)
|
....so i need to burn all my lives/anime./programs...out first....oh no. there are some online-games that i can't reinstall. and my account had not end yet....i need to think of something.
EDIT: or is it possible that i buy a new hard disk, then i won't need to install so many items? oh no oh no....or maybe i can just save up for a new computer(which might be in a or 2 years time) then play my dvds there. a dvd region-free player is out of question, considering i had bought one(code 1 & 3) last Nov.... |
