Yes, from the highly-dysfunctional and well-known, controversial Jackson family comes oversexed little sister Janet. Known for her steamy (downright smutty) lyrics, smooth, sexy dance moves - and, oh, not to mention her overexposure in 2004 - she once was an R&B/pop icon dabbling in energized dance music, highly sexualized ballads, and social commentary (Rhythm Nation, anyone?) up the wazoo.

Having just turned 40 this year, and having released her latest album, 20 Y.O. - a reference to the 20th anniversary of her breakthrough album Control AND to how old she feels - her star has dimmed quite a bit, but she's still there, having fun and making music we can enjoy or make fun of.

Any fans among us? Any non-fans with something to say about her anyway? All opinions are welcome.

I can't believe the crap songs she chose to release first from 40 yo, if she released something like "Get it out me first" I bet the album would have greater success. I hate "Call on me" and and "So excited"

My fav album is "All for you" it just makes me giddy. I love it so much, especially the title track.

I only like Together Again and Just A Little While...

i like janet jackson. her music is very emotional.

the velvet rope album is so deep, dark and emotional. it is her best album, definitely!

'doesnt really matter' has a beautifully layered chorus. i love it as well!

I like Janet's 'All for You' & 'Design of a Decade' albums. the latter has all her best songs from her earlier albums , I especially like 'love will never do (withouth you)' :)

I like Janets upbeat songs , I hate her sexualized ballads. they don't sound sexy or anything , just gross :rolleyes

'20 YO' sucks bad , I only like 'Call on You' & 'With U'. I'm a big fan of JD's productions , but Janet just hasn't got the voice to pull of the type of songs JD produces so the end result is 20YO sucks.

Janet's comeback single "Feedback" is amazing, I have alot of confidence for her new album!

I think "Feedback" is ok, there's one little lyric there that really grosses me out. the part that starts "I'm heavy like a ....." , the finish to that sentence is just a bit TMI :dead2

I can't wait for her new album. According to the press release issued by Def Jam the album is called [Discipline] and as usual will be released in Japan first (Feb. 20) & then America (Feb. 25).

I'm kind of getting into her now. My parents bought Rhythm Nation for some reason (just weird because the rest of their collection is def. not R&B..) and I like it. I might try and find a copy of the velvet rope now.

I think the Super Bowl thing just shows how nudity-phobic the US is...OMG a boob. Whatever.

I think people outside of America were more shocked at the American peoples reaction to her "Wardrobe malfunction" than the actual malfunction itself... I remember when it was on the news here, everyone was just like WTF is the big deal and then jokes were made about prudish Americans etc etc....

anyway, soon as I saw this pic I decided i'm going to buy her new album... I don't care at all what the rest of the songs are like... She deserves my 20 bucks for such a damn stunning/hot/amazing/fierce pic.

I don't really like the new song that much but I've been listening to a lot of her older songs via youtube and last.fm.

I have all of Janet's albums (even the remix ones) but ive slowly fallen out of love with her!!!

But im sure ill be buying the new album :D

I don't like Janet Jackson. I don't think she's pretty. The only songs I liked from her was the one where was running across the rooftops of buildings and It Doesn't Really Matter to some extent.

13 songs + 9 interludes. "06. Bathroom break" sounds gross, hopefully it's not anything about her bodily functions like on Feedback :dead2

im really looking forward to this album :D, still deciding wheat i should get the Japan release or buy it locally because i want those bonus tracks! lol

I really wanted to like it but it's no better than anything she's done with the last two albums imho. I only like a few of the songs and I highly doubt hearing the full versions will make a difference.

I've only listened to Rock with U, Luv, and Feedback. I definitely love Feedback; Rock with U is not too bad, and I'm not really into Luv. I haven't listened to the previews for the other tracks, and I'm hoping there are a few songs that I like. This is a new label for her, so I'm going to take this album in stride. =]

she should have continued to work with Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. she needs producers like them who can overcome her vocal shortcomings lol

^Ugh...EXACTLY. Not that Jermaine is a bad producer but his beats isn't for Janet. Jimmy and Terry produced most of the songs I luv from her. Jermaine should just stick with Mariah. OOPS! :innocent

The Discipline album cover is horrendous btw~ I wish Western albums came with CD+DVD options, not in rip-you-off-B'Day-Deluxe-DVD-Edition-here's-looking-at-you-Beyoncé forms. :grumpy

OMG! I know! XD I wish they had done that with the FutureSex/LoveSounds too. I am so pissed that they released a damn deluxe for that album. :wtf I ALREADY BOUGHT IT! Ugh, American record companies got that really bad when it comes to the releasing CD formats. I could have saved my $14 and waited until the deluxe came out. Ugh!

The leaks i've found are 128kbps but I did'nt download them. I have no interest in hearing the full versions yet after hearing those previews.

To those who have heard the album, how does it compare to her other ones in terms of style and quality? I have high hopes for this album and want to buy it, and I am curious as to how this album sounds.

It's your standard Janet album. Slow ballads, upbeat pop, sexy R&B, LOL interludes ... if you like All For You/Damita Jo/20 YO, then you'll have no problem enjoying this album. =)

It depends upon your personal taste. If u liked the last two albums you'll probably like this one, something I was hoping it would be nothing like.

I think the album is best described as "20 YO part 2" as it's really close to the style of that album musically, but I have to say Discipline is better than 20YO.
I think the main problem with the recent janet albums is that, unlike her long time producers Jimmy jam & Terry Lewis who she no longer works with, these new producers can't really handle Janet's vocal limitations.

like Mariah Carey can work a track by Jermain Dupri because her vocals are amazing, but janets whispery voice needs more production and just more support musically.

many janet albums have a akward "baby-makin" jam that is supposed to be sexy but the end result is downright nasty & really uncomfortable. "Warmth" & "moist" on Damita Jo & "Discipline" on Discipline come to mind as the worst :o

i'm pretty sure Discipline will bomb, there's like zero promotion and there are much more anticiated releases (new stuff by Mariah & Madonna) coming up so Discipline will be soon forgotten. Besides Feedback, I just don't see what song could work as a single off the album anyways ....

Rock With U has been getting really positive feedback from fans and such. I think it should definately be used ^^;

I bought the CD+DVD edition tonight at Target. I hate the cardboard cases like it came in, but it was only two bucks more for the DVD, so I couldn't refuse, haha. I haven't listened to it all the way through yet, but I like what I've heard so far.

Not counting "20 YO," I now own every single US-released original Janet album <3

^ yes. it's almost like a digipak, but the CDs fit into this little sleeve and have nothing holding them in place. Rihanna's "Good Girl Gone Bad" CD was like that, too.

Forget the album, the promo mixes of Feedback are where it's at. (It's the only worthwhile track on Discipline anyway)

so, Janet is expected to get no. 1 on Billboard this week with around 180,000 copies sold.

I'm glad it'll be number 1. I like the album, but the upbeat songs are better, I only like a few of the slower ones. I'm happy.

actually listening carefully to this album, i actually really like it. it's a slower beat than what used to... but that's not a bad thing

I was so surprised to see Feedback jump to #19, I thought it was doomed to loom the 50s and 60s for all time xD Especially because it was released a while ago - guess the release of the album helped it out!

EDIT: Just saw the Rock With U video and I really like it. It's not "flashy" but it's still awesome, with Janet dancing, and showing a perfect night out at a club. The video sort of hypnotizes me xD

The album is not really impressed if compare to her The Velvet Rope or All For U. Indeed, this album sound like 20YO part II or still in damita jo mood. I wonder what happen to Janet, if she hit the creative block? That's no sparks between she and her boyfriend, JD at all? I hope Janet will move on and collaborate with other suitable producers. Anyway, congrates to Janet for another No.1 album, although the sales is low.
