The Official Girls Aloud Thread

OH MY GOD THEY'RE LITTLE GODDESSES EACH ONE OF THEM.

Any fans around here? They are the winners of 'Popstars: The Rivals' in the UK. Despite being from a reality show, they became such a phenomenon. And continued success too, who would have thought about it? Their fresh and witty pop have found it's way into the hearts of European audiences, especially the Irish and the British.

Of course it's thanks to their AMAZING FRIGGIN AMAZING songs. They're able to pull of ballads and uptempo dance tracks so well. None of their tracks sound bad to me. They beat the Spice Girls for "most consecutive Top 10 singles" in the UK. Their latest single "Something Kinda Ooooh" hit #5 in the UK and it's terribly catchy.

I'm obsessed with their music. Last.fm shows that they are #3 in my overall artist charts, but I've only been listening to them for the past few days and they aren't even on the weekly charts yet. 200 listens, what the hell?

They're all very beautiful I can stare at them for days. Pity I don't know who's really who. Chemistry is not their latest album, but both of the covers are so beautiful.

Chemistry
http://img296.imageshack.us/img296/1...istrygasz3.jpg
Any idea who is that in the lower middle? :luv2 I think she's just absolutely beautiful. The one beside Cheryl Tweedy or Cole.

Chemistry (Christmas Edition)
http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/7...tryxmasvd5.jpg
This cover is also very beautiful. The colours makes me so happy.

..:Hot:Like:Wow:.. 26th November 2006 11:27 PM

I love sound of the underground.

Spice girls still have the most consecutive no.1's

Britney-Boy 26th November 2006 11:43 PM

Something Kinda Ooooh has actually #3 in the UK.

http://img294.imageshack.us/img294/5...emistrycu0.png

All songs on Chemistry, The Sound of Girls Aloud, What Will The Neighbours Say? , and most on Sound of the Underground are written and produced by Brian Higgins and his production company, Xenomania.

Yep, sorry. :yes Yeah, I know it's Xenomania's efforts mostly, but they still sang the songs and chose them. So they're smart. And pretty. :luv2

I found out it was Nadine a few hours ago, she's so beautiful on that cover.

..:Hot:Like:Wow:.. 27th November 2006 01:31 AM

Did'nt Nadine dump Jesse Metcalffe. (dunno how to spell his last name)

Mad_Cactuar 27th November 2006 01:43 AM

Yep Nadine dumped that smouldering hot dude although I dunno why, that's what I read.

JaysenRyan 27th November 2006 03:17 AM

I am a Girls Aloud fan and wish to God they would come to the US. I bet "Somethin Kinda ooooh" would make it in the US, it has that good, edgy fun sound, if they promoted it well.

Corybobory 27th November 2006 05:30 AM

I love Girls Aloud! My boyfriend got me into them haha... I love "Whole Lotta History", it's such a good song :)

Mad_Cactuar 27th November 2006 05:41 AM

Actually I should credit you Cory. I saw one of your posts about Girls Aloud somewhere on the forum and that also sparked my interest.

I love Whole Lotta History, Life Got Cold and See The Day the most. They're so good at winter ballads.

It's awesome your boyfriend loves them. :thumbsup It shows that not everyone who listens to Girls Aloud are gay which a lot of people seem to think locally.

Cyria 27th November 2006 05:30 PM

They're surprisingly good. Is Something Kinda Ooooh for a "best of" or a new album?

Mad_Cactuar 27th November 2006 10:00 PM

It's for their Greatest Hits album which was released last month. The lyircs are really quite daft but it's excellent, IMO. :D

..:Hot:Like:Wow:.. 27th November 2006 10:33 PM

Something kinda Ooooh is there best song in my opinion. I love everything about it. But i'm wishing they would fire they make up artist as of late.

Wow, really? Hehe nice, I'm glad I sparked your interest! Yeah it's funny my boyfriend likes them cause it's not his usual music style. When we were in the UK all he wanted to do was find Girls Aloud CDs!

mi|kshake 29th November 2006 10:55 PM

I got their greatest hits which is great. Unfortunately I've never found their albums that great. The singles always seem stronger than the album tracks. I've only heard Sound of the Underground and Chemistry (which I flicked my way through)

I have decided which my fave song of their is - No Good Advice. Gotta love that guitar riff.

I always feel sorry for Nicola - she always seems to get a rough time in the press for being...ginger (I'm ginger!) And recently they always seem to focus more on the other girls and just cover her up (like in the Something Kinda Ooooh vid) which is stupid because I thought she looked fantastic in the No Good Advice video!

Glad to see you're liking them MC_T!!

I think everyone likes them. I had the CD playing in my car and my stepdad turned up Love Machine lol and my parents kept saying how good they thought Biology was.

extepan 30th November 2006 07:42 AM

the only song i know is Somthing Kinda Oooh, whch is catchy and party friendly! i am playing the song a lot recently on my ipod.

..:Hot:Like:Wow:.. 30th November 2006 07:47 AM

^ "Somthing Kinda Oooh" is my fav Girls Aloud song... if you like that then I suggest you also try "The Show" which is my second fav of there's, it's party friendly too. The opening to "The Show" is just electronic perfection.

Mad_Cactuar 30th November 2006 10:33 AM

mi|kshake, I love your UK pop taste. :heart As long as they don't block Nadine or lower her airtime, I have no problems. :D Nadine is so beautiful! Cheryl too ocassionally. When photographed with the other WAGs, she looks dumpy though.

The Show really is awesome, I love the chorus. It's the only proper Girls Aloud song that got played on TV here (other than I'll Stand By You but that's a cover).

I strongly recommend See The Day, Life Got Cold, and Whole Lotta History. These are my top 3 Girls Aloud songs, they're just so frickin awesome. I just found out See The Day was a cover. The music is so dramatic and wintery.

Finally put a $10 down payment on a GA CD I saw! It was Sound Of The Underground, I never knew there was a copy of their CD in my local music store. :luv2 It has Life Got Cold!!!!

mi|kshake 30th November 2006 09:18 PM

mi|kshake, I love your UK pop taste
Thanks! Rachel Stevens & Girls Aloud are the only UK pop albums I own though lol. (Am thinking of buying the Sugababe's In The Middle mp3 though - have now decided it's a great song!)

See The Day & Life Got Cold are my favourite ballads of theirs. If only See The Day was a bit longer - I'd like to see the instrumental bit in the middle exteneded and an extra chorus & verse added on. Then it could rival some jpop songs as my favourite ballad! Whole Lotta History didn't do much for me though. Think my least favourite song is Money which is on the greatest hits.

Hopefully the video for I Think We're Alone Now will be out soon. I think people on the 3 phone network get to vote for the ending for it.

Quote:

It's a bit cliche, but Love Machine is a total party song!

mi|kshake~

Mad_Cactuar 1st December 2006 09:58 AM

I just don't like I Think We're Alone Now from that CD. Well, not dislike, but love the least, I still love it. Love Money. :laugh The crazy horns and various jazz instruments crammed up with crazy beats and loud music sounds so frenetic and fun!

I'm downloading the video for ITWAN from torrents currently. Not much seeds though. I read that the winning ending was the one where a girl flashed her boobs at the guard or something.

On another note, I also love Sugababes. :yes Amelle is the bestest thing that happened to the group since Heidi. However, Easy was kind of a dissapointment with the ultra-weak chorus. Amelle is so beautiful. :luv2 Especially in the Easy video which I regard as the best Sugababes video ever. It's like Red Dress in black(Black Dress?).

Amen, exactly my thoughts.

As for GA, they're singles have always been a pleasure to hear, but it was when I obtained "Chemistry" that I found out how good of a music group they really are. I seriously regard that as one of the best pop albums ever. Any "Swinging London Town" fans around? :lech

mi|kshake 2nd December 2006 09:41 PM

I love the second Chemistry cover!

mi|kshake~

Mad_Cactuar 2nd December 2006 11:31 PM

I love it too, the colours are so pretty. But Nadine and Cheryl looks a little less pretty in it.

Now I understand what the fuss about Biology was. It's just brilliant. :luv2 I'm downloading Chemistry currently.

JaysenRyan 3rd December 2006 07:06 PM

Ain't it though? Biology really grows on you. But"Somethin kinda ooooh" is def their best song. too bad the video sucks.

No Good Advice is one of my favourites. Thanks for the Money file!

Would you happen to have a good quality mp3 of Something Kinda Oooh? Mine is pretty bad (the song is still awesome, though).

This copy is an MP3 file with a 216 kbps average bitrate, although you might have to add another "o" to the tags, I'm not quite sure how many there are supposed to be.

Weslicious 7th December 2006 11:02 AM

I love them. I can't believe their releasing 'I Think Were Alone Now' though. Their worst cover.
I actually think Singapore should have made it onto the main CD instead of the bonus one. Money and Singapore would both be better singles than 'I Think Were Alone Now'.

Something Kinda Ooh was amazing. It was like 'The Show' and 'Wake Me Up' got together, had a baby and released it.

Mad_Cactuar 8th December 2006 03:53 AM

There's four O's in the title.

Something Kinda Ooooh

Thanks criminal for uploading it, I was absent yesterday. :yes

Weslicious, I thought it was bad initially, but the PV version really grew on me. I suppose that's the single version available only on the single. I love the video too, it's amusing and sexayyy.

mi|kshake 8th December 2006 11:54 PM

I just realised that the video version of ITWAN was different - sounds more Girls Aloud-y!

Mad_Cactuar 15th December 2006 01:47 PM

Girls Aloud loves me. :luv2 Last week, "Something Kinda Ooooh" was playing in a store I visited while I was having a miserable time working.

Today, Biology played on TV (like, WTF?!) when I was working too!

Girls Aloud and the Sugababes team up

LIFE STYLE EXTRA (UK) - Girls Aloud and the Sugababes are teaming up to record a song for next year's Comic Relief.

The eight-piece group are currently in the studio recording the unknown track to be released as the appeal's official tune.

A source revealed: "Its amazing getting these two bands to record together, they will be the ultimate girl group. It is going to be hot."

The girls, part of two of the most successful pop bands in the UK, are halfway through recording the vocals - rumoured to a cover of a well-known hip hop classic - with a video to follow.

Meanwhile Sarah Harding has compared herself to Amy Winehouse.

The Girls Aloud singer has a reputation for heavy drinking and wild partying but says she doesn't want to go into rehab.

Sarah, 25, said: "I haven't got an alcohol problem, so I don't need to go to the Priory - just yet!

"If my management said I had to go to rehab I would probably do what Amy Winehouse did - go down to see what it's all about and then say, 'No!'

"I haven't got an issue. If I was an alcoholic I'd be wanting a drink in the morning, wouldn't I? And I'm drinking mineral water today!"

Mad_Cactuar 19th December 2006 12:10 PM

O. M. G. :eek That's like Ayumi and Mika collaborating. *dies*

I wager it might be the BEST SONG EVER.

Elsewhere, Beyonce and Shakira are teaming up for "Beautiful Liar", due for release with the reissue of B'Day.

..:Hot:Like:Wow:.. 3rd February 2007 10:57 PM

I was expecting big things from this team up but I don't like the song. The MV is slightly better imo.

Girls Aloud Vs Sugababes - Walk this way

Mad_Cactuar 4th February 2007 12:45 AM

Once again, kingofpop brings something amazing.

THANK YOU

chocopockymaster 4th February 2007 12:52 AM

I've listened to a bunch of stuff by Girls Aloud...I just can't seem to get into them. :(

No_Doubt 4th February 2007 04:39 PM

^Me as well. I can definitely see why they've received all the critical accolades and commercial success, but for some reason they just aren't working for me. I can't really put my finger on it though, I'll have to listen to more of their music.

mi|kshake 5th February 2007 10:19 PM

I know it's for Comic Relief and that, but that's the song they're covering? The 2 biggest girl bands in the UK get together and this is what we get? As Scott Mills said "When you hear this song, remember it is for charity and people are dying".

Glad to see the stylists have actually make Nicola look good for once - loving the hair!

It's great to see them all together, but the song isn't as instantly awesome as I expected a Girls Aloud-Sugababes collaboration to be.

Girls Aloud are planning to cover Spice Girls hits when they go on tour. It would be interesting if they later included those covers as B-sides on singles.

Girls Aloud have great songs, but I still have difficulty keeping track of who's who. It was easy to see which Spice was Sporty or Baby because they really emphasised their different personalities in videos/photos, but the current girl bands have a more generic "cool" look.

Isn't Nicola the redhead? She could be Ginger.

PS. Sorry if anyone is offended that I bumped this, but at least it's better than a new topic, eh?

Weslicious 15th August 2007 11:17 PM

^^^

Something Kinda Oooh (Somebody will no doubt point out I've missed/added some O's :laugh)
Life Got Cold
Wake Me Up
Singapore
The Show
Graffiti My Soul
No Good Advice
Biology
Whole Lotta History

criminal 15th August 2007 11:23 PM

Yes, it's the first single from their as of now, untitled, 5th studio album.
Um, I recommend you the whole Chemistry album (without the UK bonus tracks) with it being a really smart concept album and all. Then again, you could always try to obtain their greatest hits album, The Sound of Girls Aloud.
But if you REALLY just want a couple of songs, try out uptempos like Sound of the Underground, Biology (might be startling at first, it's like 3 different songs), Models and Something Kinda Ooooh and if you're in the mood for something slower, go for Life Got Cold or See The Day.

I originally had heard of the band's name through various places on the internet, but had no idea who they were since I'm from the US. Well, after hearing Sexy! No No No... about two weeks ago, I did some research and downloaded their greatest hits. Now I feel like a rabid fan. I just bought Sound of the Underground and What Will The Neighbours Say? through Amazon.com and should be expecting those in the mail soon. I can't wait! I'm glad to have discovered them, and I'm slightly surprised I hadn't sooner. I guess they've kind of inspired me to delve into more British pop, since it's all so good.

My favorite songs are No Good Advice, Wake Me Up, Biology, Something Kinda Ooooh, and Sound of the Underground. Oh, and of course Sexy! No No No.... Nadine's my favorite member as well. Her accent is just adorable! Irish accents are just far too cute.

I most certainly have been. She was always my favorite S Club member (and I liked them since S Club 7 in Miami), so when I found out she went solo, I had to check it out. I just ordered Funky Dory and Come and Get Me through Amazon.com as well. I'm so excited. I have all these great Brit Pop CDs arriving in the mail this next week or so :D

They really are Something Kinda Wicked aren't they? My favs have to be Nicola and Sarah, hehe always the underdogs with me.

You have good taste. Our favorites are so similar. I'm not a huge fan of their ballads though. I think Life Got Cold is my favorite out of them, but even that I can't say I adore. I like them doing what they do best, strong up-tempo tracks.

I like all the members personally, but it's sad how Sarah and Nicola both rarely get any lies in songs. I was on a fansite recently that showed how many lines each member had in each of the singles, and those two and Kimberley were so far behind Nadine and Cheryl that I was almost in shock. Not like it isn't noticeable though.

What ever came of that?

I didn't expect her solo albums to be good but they ended up having surprisingly awesome songs, especially Come and Get Me.

With an actual Spice Girls reunion happening, I think that even if Girls Aloud planned covers at one point there's now less point in releasing them.

Argh, this thread made me addicted to those girls.

The title for the new album has been confirmed on the Girls' official website: Tangled Up. Not super original, but I'm not displeased with it either. I just hope there's a cool cover art, like the Christmas Limited Edition of Chemistry :D

The new song, Call the Shots, is just too awesome. Now I can't wait for the album!

I'm loving Call the Shots. It isn't my favorite Girls Aloud song, but I really do like it. Something about the voices and the whole instrumental is just awesome. I'm sure the video will make me like the song even more, as I saw posts on the GA forum I'm a member of and they look stunning. They're wearing purple dresses on a beach in Malibu at night, with white tents and lit torches. I'm sure it will be fantastic.

The small version of the cover on HMV looks simple but good.

Confirmed tracks:

* Sexy! No No No...
* Call the Shots
* Blackjack
* Fling
* I Can't Speak French
* Close to Love
* Girl Overboard

I wonder what I Can't Speak French will be like. Playful, flirty song?

kinomaniac 15th October 2007 02:34 PM

Hahaha, "I Can't Speak French" is such a cool title. It'd be nice if they put some french words in the lyrics.

Thanks for the news Cyria.

the cover on hmv is not real, guys. is just some random photoshoot they did recently.
