until that Day... - Thoughts

Following Not yet I'm going onto until that Day..., it starts out very promising.

A little weak drums, but hey, it sounds cool. Her voice is robotic in the beginning, and stays so throught the OUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU LA LA LAIII parts, which sound just awesome. Hmm, I feel so biased towards Ayumi, but hey, this is actually quite awesome.

The the song gets started, the arrangements are heavy, and it's fast, but it doesn't get really fast until it goes onto the chorus.

It takes the song quite some time to get into the chorus, something Ayumi often hurries to get into. Maybe an effect from it being an interlude from the start.

The later parts of the songs is mixes of quick paced yelling and soothingly calm singing, the chorus repeated over and over again. I like the effect.

Definitely one of my favorite tracks on this album. I believe it needs more than one listen to get used to the "robotic" effect on her voice at the start.

Ahhh, song is ending soon, over to the next :).

truehappiness 26th November 2006 03:27 PM

I love the woooo LA LA LA.

Definitely a concert song.

It starts out like Are You Wake Up? and then kinda sounds like the S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y NIGHT song LOL

Ayu's amazing. She's playing around with structure like CRAZY.

Vinh 26th November 2006 03:55 PM

You summed it up so well immel and truehappiness. I just love the fast paced singing, reminds me of evolution (which I love) but with a stronger rock esque feel to it.

Lawve eet.

Queen Bee 26th November 2006 06:04 PM

I am in LOVE with this song! I just love how Ayu sounds and the structure of it all together.

kaue_ 26th November 2006 06:05 PM

BRILLIANT! So catchy, makes me wanna get up and run, dance around... just... jump or something!

I'm sorry, I sound stupid, it's the frenzy, blame it on Ayu, she's done it again.

Axel_Grease 26th November 2006 06:07 PM

I'm glad until that Day... became a full song instead of an interlude. It sounds too good to be an interlude.

Looking through all my "reviews" now that I've calmed down a bit, and killed my ears with kiss o' kill, I feel the same, hahaha.

She still did a great job, though.

This song is quite normal paced, and then it just explodes into some kind of evolution frenzy towards the end.

waltz#2 26th November 2006 07:29 PM

I really adore this song. It's a little different than what I expected from the 30 second preview, but dear god. Once you start singing it, it really grabs you. I also like the "uuuu lalalai" parts. Then just when I didn't think the part from the preview would come... BAM! I am absolutely sold on this song.

And the guitar at 3:35. :love I think the song is really unique.

alt.total-loser 26th November 2006 08:33 PM

until that Day... > most other songs on planet

There we go.

*Petit* 26th November 2006 09:27 PM

I love this song and agree with the above, but I feel like I've heard that guitar hook before... AC/DC perhaps?

Nu-NRG 26th November 2006 09:30 PM

In ayu's interview I thought it's a consistant fast paced song like evolution but
no it changes in the tempo...I love the explosioness!
It this was origianlly a interlude....it really ruins it, glad it is a full now! :D

ImpactBreaker 26th November 2006 09:30 PM

This song goes beyond excellent for me. I was was really deceived for "Not Yet" being such an fantastic but short track...but I just forgot about about that when this song started playing. I was afraid the "uh uh la la lai" would be the generic one she often uses for ballads, but it impressed me that it was different and made the song rather "Tribal" along with the drumbeats which was awesome. Love it to pieces and bits. This song is quite unique in ayu's discography.

uniquelydefined 26th November 2006 09:32 PM

It's so 80's sounding, but I love it. I don't know if I'd want her to replace evolution with this in her arena tours though.

Welcome! I was waiting for you to drop in when I saw you post in the general Secret discussion thread, hehe.

"Not yet" isn't too short, well, it's good and short, but it's long for being an interlude. It took me two listens to get used to "until that Day...", I was weirded out by the roboticness in the beginning, but it all balances out.

Tribal? Interesting expression but I don't know what sound to connect it to, so for now until that Day...'s uh uh la la lai will define tribal sound for me :D.

I'd like to couple it with kiss o' kill in that respect, never heard an arrangement quite like it for any of her songs.

blahh 26th November 2006 09:59 PM

This is like another anger management song(for me).
I mean, same with 1LOVE, when I listen to it, I just wanna break stuff.lol
Overall, this songs is really nice and it sounds so retro.

I'm so totally in love with this song so I'm itching to hear about how it sounds in the ears of someone who isn't all too fond of it. Please explain to me how you experience the song when you listen to it.

Tribal as in it reminds me of the sound red indians do during their dancing rituals.

I wasn't listening to the song when I replied, so I didn't have it freshly in my memory, I did now, though.

I see what you mean.

I hate when I notice the limitations to my English, I didn't know what to connect tribal to.

makie_7 26th November 2006 10:27 PM

One of my favourites tracks in the album! the chorus is just amazing!
i agree this song would be an amazing combination with evolution!

Calico 26th November 2006 11:59 PM

I'm writing this as I first listen to the album, and, if this song sets the standard for the other album tracks, I may just wet myself.

I love this song. So much. I thought of evolution as well, and that's my favorite song. :yes

It's like an angry evolution. Works for me!

realize_! 27th November 2006 12:19 AM

although it's not my favourite, it is very powerful and again, this is going to be a song that would be great live^^ maybe she'll do a little medley between this and evolution (ie SURREAL-evolution-SURREAL in AT04) evolution-until that Day...-evolution or vice versa, although I don't know how that would sound like...

truehappiness 27th November 2006 12:48 AM

I loved the WOOOO LA LA LAIII WOO WOOooo OooO!! :D

I hope the live version is amazing! If there is one..

ruixiong89 27th November 2006 02:20 AM

(typing as I'm listening to until that Day ... on FIRST LISTEN)

Weird blooby and electronic sounds at the start but I really like the consistent beats that come afterwards. Oh my, ROBOTIC sounding Ayu! Yeah! I like it! Wow, there's the acoustic guitars and then it morphs into this whole techno sounding thingy. I reckon I hear some bird chirping in the background.

Ayu seems to be playing with structure this time round! Oh my, the chorus is on now and it's REALLY fast! Yeah! LOVE IT! Sounds like a remix! Ooo ... those good old remix days. EXPLOSIVE chorus.

Yeah, those acoustic guitars are back again on the bridge! It's nicely fused together! She better perform this song for AT07! It's amazing!

And the ending is truly unique! I like how Ayu's voice bursts out in the end as the ending note. Superb!

Syphex 27th November 2006 02:30 AM

Am I the only one that thinks this song is bland and monotone?

This is nothing like evolution. =/

Coelacanth 27th November 2006 02:31 AM

Let's just say my only complaint is that I can't sing along to the chorus, and I like songs that I can easily sing along to. :laugh

It's very retro, it's badass. Minor complaint is that it seemed just lower in volume to me than the rest of the album, it's not a really good headphone-iPod song, I guess. More like a cruising down the highway jam song. I don't know.

ImpactBreaker 27th November 2006 02:41 AM

LOL maybe that was also your complaint with "evolution" and "About You"? I like those, they're like a harder level to those who want to learn how to sing these songs. :laugh once you sing along to them several times you actually end up learning how to do it quickly and you can then nail it alright!

Norrel 27th November 2006 03:57 AM

I love this song, even though the song is a bit empty since it's filled with instrumentals and the "ooooooooooh lalalal" than her actually singing.

truehappiness 27th November 2006 04:00 AM

Well, you must remember:

"This song was an interlude but I wanted to make it into a full song!"

adpoyao 27th November 2006 04:18 AM

I think the fact that the song used to be an interlude made it just so much better. I love songs from her that includes late arriving chorus, because it gives time to build up tension and atmosphere, for ie M and Free & Easy.

I do have one say in this song though. Is it me, or does ayumi's voice sound just a little choppy in this song? Don't get me wrong, I love the use of her new singing technique, as well as how powerful her vocal is during the chorus, but I think the verses sounded a little rushed (I guess its the lack of vibrato and her fading out technique). Just how I hear it.

hiro 27th November 2006 06:58 AM

Maybe she should do an album where they base full songs off of instrumentals. Her instrumentals have awesome structure.

I love this song too along with just 2 other new songs in the album. All the other new material is just recycled fluff.

spookshow 27th November 2006 08:36 AM

whoa! i love this song! just listening to it for the first time now, and it's brilliant! so upbeat! i feel like dancing, or rocking out *reaches for air guitar*

SunshineSlayer 27th November 2006 08:40 AM

I was a bit suprised how long it took to get to the chorus in this song, especially since I had been reading about how fast the lyrics were in the song. So I was all like, ok, where is the fast lyrics? It really did take a long time for that chorus to come up. :) But now I love it that way because it's something different and I like that she played with the structure a bit because I do think a lot of her songs start to get boring simply because she uses almost the same structure for most of her songs.

I just want to say exactly.

So...

exactly.

It really is different, the delayed chorus is something we don't see much of by Ayu.

A new day has come, and I'm just as much in love with this album, if not more.

marionette 27th November 2006 08:49 AM

The preview of this song was only "OK" to me. Not that promising.

But then I heard the full song...

I love this song! My favourite song at the moment.
Rock and dance music in one song. Perfect. And the "playing with the structure" -thing was a good choice.

alternarist 27th November 2006 09:09 AM

this IS MY FAVOURITE new track fromt he album!! the verses are so cute!! reminds me a little of Ladies Night. lol. wat attracted me was the chorus. so intense. and impactful!!

Mad_Cactuar 27th November 2006 10:28 AM

At first I was dissapointed, but then the chorus came and it was shockingly good. So the starting parts served as very good build up. Overall, a really great song! I love the structure.

Yeah, I had the little of the same feeling. Especially after having listened to the preview which I loved, and then the song was so different.

But after hearing all of it you change your mind :).

Raleigh 27th November 2006 10:57 AM

One of the best tracks. Very original, powerful and rockish.

FuNsTyLe 27th November 2006 11:02 AM

I LOOOVE it...!! I have a feeling it'll be my favorite track on the album!

*Petit* 27th November 2006 05:36 PM

I found out which songs the guitar at 3:35, and the el guitar hook in the beginning is very much alike, but relieved to find that it's not a total rip off. Listen to Niravana's Smells Like Teen Spirit and the other one is a bit like AC/DC's I think it was back in black? :. Have to check that again..

No matter what, it's not strange the song is catchy, when it reminds of these rock classics!

explodingbird 27th November 2006 07:26 PM

This song is awesome. The opening guitar riff makes me think of the rock songs of the 80's, for some reason. Shouldn't makle me think of classic rock, but it just DOES. The acoustic guitar interludes are great, the hook is intense and reeling... it's the evolution follow-up we've all been waiting for. I think this has the potential to become another fan favorite.

Someone else earlier in this thread mentioned that the song had a 80's style, I wasn't listening to it at the time but I couldn't remember anything about the song resembling a style like that at the time. Earlier today I was outside, listening to the album on my mp3 player, when until that Day... popped up I suddenly heard it. Yeah, the guitars in the beginning is what does it. The rest of the song isn't at all 80's, though, to me.

It does, indeed. I doubt she'll be able to make it as popular live as evolution is, with the hand movements that everyone knows perfectly and all.

While it will definitely be many peoples favorite of this album, I doubt it will reach a legendary status like evolution.

gogirlanime 27th November 2006 07:52 PM

LOVE this song, it's one of my fave tracks on the album!!! Totally cool, and kinda different for Ayu.

orochicloud 27th November 2006 08:23 PM

I'm in love with this song, it has such a different style from other ayu songs.
Definitely one of my all time favorites!

esprit85 27th November 2006 08:30 PM

I also love this song!!! Its so powerfull und strong... can`t get enough! Wish there could be a PV.... or she performs it live....*drop*

oro77 27th November 2006 08:35 PM

yes too bad, there is no PV or this one!

Norrel 27th November 2006 10:17 PM

Wonder if she'll do what she did with My Name's Woman and have the PV on the next single(in MNW's case, it was on STEP You)

Larisa-chan 27th November 2006 11:05 PM

Hell, this song SHOULD reach legendary status like evolution. I love it to bits and pieces. It's brilliant, I love her voice and I love the arrangement. The beginning reminded me of some rock song I've heard in the past though o.o;; I loveeeee the part at 3:35, that was the cherry on the whip cream for me XD
This song gets an A+, this definitely is the "next evolution" I can't believe this was originally going to be an interlude! I'm so glad it's a full song... and I wish it got a PV.

I completely agree ! I cannot stop to play it in my winamp, I should stop, Iam afraid to get tired of it but it really ROX :)
The interlude before is perfect, and Startin' is also a good follower (didn't like so much the single though)

I really think this album has been well done, the order of each songs have been thought. Real piece of art

BigAyuFan 27th November 2006 11:33 PM

i like this song but i dont think it beats evolution :P i dont really like the 80s soundings of this song but it is still a VVAARRYY good song :yes . but i really dont understand what the lyrics means here ill post it on here so u dont have to go around looking for it. can anyone put this in to a easyer understanding if its not to much work??
It's still not over. It still hasn't been stopped.
Has it always been like this, ever coming to pass?
uh- lalala...
uh uh-

When you gave up, when you turned your back,
That time, was it so discourteous of me to shed my tears?
uh- lalala...
uh uh-

Just what is my body, all the time?
I've stopped selling it, stopped taking care of it.
Even so, everyone except myself is being passed over.

Sometimes I wonder, "Until when, and for what
Will I keep progressing like this, until I just can't?"
Though I have days like those,
You always see me through them.

It's alright if you want to laugh, even without innocence
After all, living just for the sake of yourself would be so boring.
uh- lalala...
uh uh-

Just by smiling a little, changing up the words
I felt like I understood it all.
But after so long, I'm quite different from the person I was.

The reason for this honor, the meaning of these words -
It's very easy to express them, and though I want to do so,
I just can't think of how. I have no choice.
Other than you, no one knows
The real me.

If someday I could spread my wings and return to this place,
I would look at it with a satified expression
And certainly wave my arms fully.

If someday I could spread my wings and return to this place,
I would look at it with a satified expression
And certainly nod my head quietly.

You'll look after me, won't you?
Until that day...

Seriously, I think it's about those days/times when we feel down and give up and feel like those things will never come to pass (sad feelings and hard life). But in the end she reminds us that another time will come when we look back and

The chorus is so catchy and i just can't get enough of it:lovethe guitar at the beginning sounds too familiar to me though

FuNsTyLe 28th November 2006 09:29 AM

I LOVE it... Lol I know I wrote it earlier in this thread... It's an amzing song.. The ooh-la la parts, and the guitars, the quick chrous, and the guitars playing before the last chorus...

..:Hot:Like:Wow:.. 28th November 2006 10:13 AM

The thing that makes me love it the most is the incerdibly high speed of the vocals. Then the riff.

jeffycue 28th November 2006 10:35 AM

um.. the robotic part here is way better than Beautiful Fighters... i still have BF.

the chorus here feels like Naturally for me... it's more of rock that dance though... me likey this song...

especially the oohhh uuhhhh parts... hehehe. YELL SOME MORE AYU!!!

Diana 28th November 2006 05:15 PM

My fav with 1love :D I love that part "uuu~ lalalaaa~.." :D And that she starts a fast chorus later on without that. Rythim kind of reminds me of evolution.. Don`t know why

Daking 3rd December 2006 09:44 AM

The best song thus far from the 4 days i've been listening, most catchy, grabbed my attention instantly.

I have the CD played on album loop and i always seem to pay extra attention when this song is playing, the chorus is so damn catch, and i love her voice in this song it shounds so tough and forceful, really great.

criminal 3rd December 2006 03:07 PM

This song is so-so-so amazing, the music, arrangement and beats are all so great, so is Ayumi's voice, especially when she gets all angry and Ladies Night-like. One of my favorites from Secret.

ayu_ready? 3rd December 2006 07:57 PM

until that Day- oh, gosh, yes, that's the one that's the BEST of the album too! a strong thingy
:yes

emi♡ 4th December 2006 12:45 AM

okay, until that Day...

I love the beginning...sounds so...quiet, and then you get the guitars, and the first time I heard this, well actually, everytime I hear it, I am reminded of this really famous American rock song, but I don't know what it is.

I love her long tones after the first verse, especially the second one after the la la lai, I wish she did it more than once in the whole song.

I love the beackground too. Makes me feel like "go!"

The chorus is great, so many words, yet it fits so wonderfully together. The melody of it, when she chooses to stop, her chords, very nice.

Then she starts with the subtle harmonies in the chorus, and that just sounds great, and the part right after, where the song winds down, just gives it such a feel to the music, then it just picks up again...would have been a great PV, to see what would have happened during that part, and to see what she would have been doing during the chorus.

Overall, I love this song. It's my favourite song off of Secret, and I really don't have any problems with it...it ends abruptly, but I kind of like that, the only thing....I wish I wasn't reminded of that American song in the beginning...it makes me laugh though.

Good song.

Mad_Cactuar 8th December 2006 08:20 AM

After listening to it 987023957 times, it's the best track off Secret for me. It can't match the best of missU (rainy day) but it's hella awesome. Simply amazing. I can listen to it forever.

The chorus to guitar-only bridge was the best transition ever.

Mirai Noah 10th December 2006 02:32 AM

Some great 'uh's in 'until that Day' but no legendary 'lalala's like 'evolution', so I don't think it'll achieve that status. It's a nice song though--I really do like it.

...

That... song. God, I'm gonna have to find it.

Yay! I finally heard the famed robotic voices in this song - I mean, aside from "DO IT, PIMP!" at the beginning. I think they really are saying "I cannot sleep, I cannot sleep until that day."

Kilyk 17th December 2006 03:11 PM

This song is awesome, I love the whole electronica + rock and it's just awesome. The refrain is what just makes me so addicted to the song. I just love it so much. The fast-paced catchiness.

Errr... yeah, when people mention the "DO IT, PIMP" part, they're talking about the voice in the very beginning of the song, which definitely says that or something sounding a lot like it. There's that voice (which you hear 6 seconds into the song) and then, later on, the robotic voices saying "I cannot sleep until that day," et cetera.

i'm finding myself listening to this song more than any ayu song ever except maybe Boys & Girls when i first started on Ayu. This song is just awesome this is just what i wanted, couldn't ask for anything more. Altho i haven't noticed that "DO IT PIMP" part, i'll go listen for it in a minute.

After listening the beginning i can make out a "DO IT PIMP" however i don't know if its because i am trying to hear "DO IT PIMP". I wonder how i would interpret it if i had noticed it before i read this thread.

I really really really don't like the whole robotic effect of the song. honestly i think that the instrumental background steals the spotlight. The chorus is good but not great.
