[article] Japan TV apologizes for "topless" New Year's Eve shock

A troupe of dancers in skin-colored body suits had Japanese national broadcaster NHK apologizing to viewers of its New Year's Eve music special for what seemed to be a full-scale Janet Jackson-style wardrobe malfunction.

The dancers, who all appeared to be topless and wore skimpy bikini-style bottoms and feathered head-dresses, covered the stage during a performance by singer DJ OZMA, prompting about 250 viewers to phone in and complain.

"The dancers were wearing body suits, but we apologize for any misunderstanding," a presenter announced toward the end of the 57th annual "Red and White Song Contest".

"I guess it looked a bit too real," local media quoted the singer as telling reporters after the show, which regularly tops viewer ratings on New Year's Eve in Japan.

Public broadcaster NHK was flooded with hundreds of complaints from viewers about costumes worn by dancers in a popular annual year-end show on Sunday, which made them look like they were gyrating in the nude, NHK officials said.

Announcer Tamio Miyake apologized for the costume during the program, saying: "We ended up causing misunderstanding to viewers. We're sorry."

NHK received over 250 complaints from viewers about the costumes, worn by female dancers dancing behind musician DJ OZMA during the annual "Kohaku Song Contest" program aired Sunday night. The costumes were body suits designed to resemble a woman's naked body.

"Are they dancing naked?" one of the viewers said in a phone call to NHK.

"It's inappropriate as children are viewing the program," another viewer complained.

~X2RADialbomber~ 2nd January 2007 05:54 AM

No Offense, but it didn't look like they were wearing body suits... more like transparent ones

explodingbird 2nd January 2007 06:00 AM

ZOMG BOOBIES.

But it seemed pretty easy to me to tell they were wearing panties, so not so much naked as letting the muffins out to cool. I dunno - the song was so obnoxious I stopped it before the end.

the angel song 2nd January 2007 06:04 AM

BAHAHA!! If the song wasn't already bad lmao.

sora2522 2nd January 2007 06:05 AM

...this is odd...it looks like it's real...but apparently, it's not? and what was up w/ the panty stripping at the end? and they cover it w/ american patriotic thingy...wtf?!

mishidabo 2nd January 2007 06:05 AM

they look pretty topless to me~ wardrobe malfunction my ass you could even see the nipple

but oh well~ its DJ OZMA, a guy who is famous for taking off his pants, what else do you expect?

actually, read odyssey and try to say kuu is inappropriate for children XD;

but yea, that doesn't look fake as much...it's really weird O.o. and from what the performance looked like (i muted the comp so i won't wake the family), it looks crappy, so i'm not surpirsed that they were trying to make the performance better.

~X2RADialbomber~ 2nd January 2007 06:55 AM

Am I the only one who liked the song? x_x

..:Hot:Like:Wow:.. 2nd January 2007 07:18 AM

They apologized when only 250 people complained. I would have told them to go get..... thousands upon thousands people with no lives complained about Janet

[QUOTE=UHPlus;988394]i think that's a great idea for kumi's future wardrobe !!QUOTE]

I can see that...! She should! w00t~!

AznWizKidz 2nd January 2007 07:31 AM

Well at least people did complain. At first i thought they were really REAL. I even downloaded it and i was like OMG. But after that i watched it on a rebroadcast on American TV and they actually didn't show that part. You could only listen to the music. YA I thought they were real for like the whole time. But i knew something was fishy about it when they did do it.

Psychotic_X 2nd January 2007 08:43 AM

the host or whatever apologised straight after the performance...
Aiish.. such a bad thing to do at Kouhaku... tsk tsk..

EAT @#%$ KUU HATERS!

*Petit* 2nd January 2007 08:56 AM

Psy, what is your problem?

____

OMG what a performance! Awesome, even without the naked people. =P The song was quite catchy too.

Honestly, I think the suits did not look that real, but it's hard to judge from that bad quality youtube clip. But you could clearly see that it had been used paint f.ex to make the "shadows", where the skin is folding.

My Rainbow 2nd January 2007 11:21 AM

Hahahahahaha hilarious!! Very funny!!!

Raleigh 2nd January 2007 01:17 PM

In the end it was quite daring of them :P

extepan 2nd January 2007 03:52 PM

sometimes, i am amazed what they put on dancers. and pity them that they have to wear these crazy clothes in public.

Nanako 2nd January 2007 06:05 PM

Funny. But they should have known better than that. It was inappropriate for an award show. I'd be shocked too if nobody hadn't complained. On Youtube it does look like they're naked but if I was DJ OZMA I wouldn't even had risked it. I think people will get over it.

Melting_Holidays 2nd January 2007 10:42 PM

They are just boobs. Like no one has seen one or two before. XD

chocopockymaster 2nd January 2007 11:02 PM

Oh. My. God.

And that's all I have to say about that.

Beauty4123 2nd January 2007 11:24 PM

they do have a point there, it totally looked like they were naked. i was like a first, "the yellow dresses aren't really bad?". but then when they started transforming into those body suits.... :roflmao

it made for a good laugh though. especially the song. :irked

craaazy.

Thulanks 8th January 2007 01:35 PM

Hehehehe I can already see Koda askin 'em, "so, who made your outfits?" for her next performance, (no offence Ko)
