[NEWS] Eason Chan critcises Ayu of Lip-synching
 

NOTE: Different media reports used different adjectives to describe what Eason said. The one published in the version I read said Eason 'criticised' Ayu. Judge for yourself.

Chinese news: (this is a summary)

Ayu lip-synched?? Eason slept till he snored.

A lot of big Hong Kong stars attended Ayumi's Hong Kong Asia tour stop last Saturday. However, one of them, Eason Chan, accused that Ayumi, the queen of Jpop, of lip-synching for almost 1/3 of the entire concert.

"The stage design and set-up is good, but she lip-synched for 1/3 of the concert. If we do that in HK, we will definitely get scolded," Eason said. He was quick to add that lipsynching is not a big problem.

Because of his busy schedule, he also fell asleep at the start of the concert, prompting his friend to jab him~ so that it won't look ugly to have someone sleeping in the front row.

The organiser of the concert insisted, "Ayumi did not lip-synch AT ALL. The sound system is specially flown in from Japan, so it might have been so fantastic that Eason got the wrong idea."

My own thoughts:
I was there at the concert myself, and like many Ayu fans here, have watched countless LIVE performances, and spinned her RECORDED versions a hundred times - its really easy to tell when Ayu is using her live singing voice - and she was. However, her voice was really in a superb condition (though she struggled a lot on 'Secret') - and that might have led to confusions. Even I was shocked at her live singing quality.

Also, the video feed from the big screen seemed to lag at several short moments, so if Eason was watching the screen instead of Ayu herself, he might have mistook the situation too.

I also find it quite funny that he dared to say it so proudly because I can easily count with my fingers the number of famous HK stars that lip-synch on a regular basis. *roll eyes*

IMO Ayu definitely did not lip-synch at all. She was good, but not CD-quality good.

if you listen to her taiwan-concert, and the pieces of HK-concert; you'll know that she is absolutely 100% NOT-lipsyncing...... it's not even a guess or an assumption.. it's just so obvious this time

The lip-sync part could be just his own opinions, but i felt that the slping part is plain rude. Although u aren't an Ayu fan it's just plain rude to slp during concert. Even if u slp during the concert why told something like that to the media? Is it even necessary to let the whole world knows abt it? For 1/3 of the songs? oO That sounds way too exaggerated. She rarely lipsynchs in Japan, why would she do it in her super rare Asia Tour? I might have believed a little if it's one or two songs but please, 1/3 of the songs is too absurb to believe.

And yes, it's rude the part about sleeping. He got front row seats, know how many fans would die for that? And he spoke so blantly about falling asleep in the live. Want to watch the concert and yet want to criticize. Duh.

Might as well give up his seat for someone else who will appreciate the live better.

I wonder how he can be so sure that ayu has so-called lip sync when he's asleep almost throughout the performance? I mean for one who 'slept till he snored' - i find it difficult to believe he will be attentive and alert enough to listen or see anything. Even with the jabbing, one can continue to return to slumber land - i mean we all use the snooze button right? And some of us are still late.

So i bet his attitude towards this concert is rather... I mean sleeping in another artiste's concert front row. Afterall he has mentioned that he just wants to see how a Japanese concert is like.
So even if he is 'reputated' to be '歌唱功力一流' [rather good with singing], I doubt he can compare since he has never been to a pretty pony~pretty pony~pretty pony~ concert, especially one that brings in the best equipment, air flown from japan/
So yeah I finally know how rude one can be - like what babamon has said - telling the whole world he slept in the concert. It's just telling the whole world ayu's concerts are boring....

i'm sure ayu was never lipsynching, i had watch the doc film of Best CDL 06-07, ayu was working very hard back then, and i think ayu would work hard too for this big event the Asia Tour (the first time for ayu) because ayu doesn't want to mess it up. Especially in HK because i think it's gonna be recorded and released as ASIA TOUR DVD!!

I used to hold some degree of respect to him as he was consider a good singer when comparing to other local singers. But this comment seriously ruined the image of Eason for me.

As a Hong Kong resident, I actually feel ashamed of what he said. :( It's very rude (and absurd by the way) to tell proudly announce you fell asleep in a concert, especially if you're a celebrity... That does not help you to become more respectable and make people think you sound better than Ayu in concerts...

As we know previously, EASON CHAN, one of the CASUAL singer of hk denounced ayu about her lip synching, I visited a number of unofficial AYU fans BBS in HK (including REAL AYU, AYUSKY, AYUCHINA), all the fans were extremely frustrated about Eason's act. THey even called and complained via the mass media network and looking forward to seeing EASON contrite apology.

All of these sources are complains from FANS. And all of them are saying EASON is too MEAN to AYU and waiting for eason to say sorry to AYU.

What Eason said about the concert has no credibility whatsoever because firstly, it's full of inconsistencies (falling asleep and yet you thought she was lip-synching? doesn't a person need to pay some amount of attention to detect that?) and secondly, he's a close friend of Alan Tam, who slammed Ayu some years ago about her voice.

Seriously, I think he just went to the concert with the intention of saying something not so positive about Ayu to the media.

I wouldn't be completely surprised if she were a little bit...she does in her Japanese tours. Just look at the CDL from 05-06 when she messed up the lyrics.

People always think that if it's not the CD version, it's live. Sometimes artists record stage versions that they lipsink. Either way, I don't think it's a huge deal.

When someone with that fame like Ayu has comes to another country local stars usually do two things to dazzle their fans: they extol that coming celebrity to the skies and show up in media as someone who in his greatness can appreciate others or they do what Eason did and also occur in media, so also achieve their goal: people (like we or media) talk about them, badly but they do TALK and he gets popularity, bad popularity but still popularity (In my country many "stars" behave like that, that's why I don't listen to polish music :p). I'd never ever in my life heard about that guy if you didn't quote him here. To my mind he wanted to get attention more than offend Ayu. OLAĆ GO :p

As for the seats I'm pretty sure he got it for free, maybe even didn't want to go but decided that this may be good occasion to show up in the media (just like actors who don't have a nomination and still go to Oscar gala). What a waste of seats.

second of all .. Ayu did swings her head a lot especially during 1LOVE and I thought it was the back vocals that kept her voice so intact during those wild swings .. that's why people could mistakes it as lipsyncs ...

So, my question is:

1) How would Eason Chan know if Ayu was lip-synching or not? Was it because she sounded 'too perfect'? Does he even know that Ayu has two back-up vocals? Did he think their voices were pre-recordings?

2) Why would you tell the whole world you fell asleep during Ayu's concert. Not only is that rude, but you are offending one of the most powerful figures in Asia's music industry.

lip-synching is mouthing lyrics to a song, while the pre-recorded song is playing in the background. so its like you playing an ayu track, and you just sing along without making any sounds and the overall effect makes you look like you are ACTUALLY singing the song.

well, if ayu find out about this article we hope ayu could just considered his comment as a lack of music sense comment (in eason case, his totally not having that kind of senses, but still, he got that 'king' status in HK, so pathetic) and try to forgive that brat, if not then ayu would never hold a concert in HK anymore, and that would be so sad for ayu fans in HK.

Please. Ayumi is one of the last singers to accuse of lip-synching. It's pretty obvious to tell whether or not she's singing live (and sadly sometimes it's because she's offkey, but still, at least it's live.)

I can't believe someone would go out and defame Ayu like that after going to her concert. Obviously he is jealous, and what is this that MOST J-pop stars lipsync? He must be confused with Korea. Who the hell cares about Eason Chan his a nobody and it's so obvious that Ayu does not lip synch cause she already sounds flawed the whole way through a concert and besides, Chinese celebs always seem to be jealous of the Japanese celebs.

I also find it stupid that he accuses her of that, when C-popers are notoriously known to fake it.
