[article] J-pop queen upsets villagers on Hong Kong seafood quest

Don't think it was posted yet...
Quote:

Japanese pop queen Ayumi Hamasaki upset locals in a Hong Kong fishing village when she made a surprise visit for a seafood meal with 22 aggressive bodyguards and flunkies, witnesses said.

Hamasaki, known as "Ayu" to her fans and the biggest-selling solo pop star in Japan, was cocooned by her entourage who prevented locals from getting near her table or fans from taking photographs.

She popped over to Sok Kwu Wan village on Lamma Island, about two miles (three kilometres) from downtown Hong Kong, on Sunday after she had completed a series of sold-out concerts at the city's Coliseum arena.

Contributors to local website forums complained that the diminutive singer, whose unusually large round eyes and fair hair are believed to have sparked a fad for eye-lid cosmetic surgery among Japanese girls, had upset locals.

"The most famous J-pop star of all time was having a post concert bite accompanied by no less than 12 bodyguards and another 10 strong entourage," wrote one anonymous subscriber to Lamma.com.hk, the blog for island residents.

"(I) didn't have a phone to photo with and the table next to me was prevented from taking pictures anyway," the writer added.

A spokesman for the Rainbow Restaurant, where Hamasaki ate, confirmed the singer had dined at the eatery but wouldn't comment on her entourage's behaviour.

"She had lots of bodyguards with her," he said. "She came over on her own chartered boat."

According to her website, Hamasaki has had 27 number one hits in Japan, more than any other solo artist.

Leafy Lamma Island's seafood restaurants regularly attract celebrities. Most recently action star Jackie Chan and Philippine President Gloria Arroyo were spotted eating there. Lamma native "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" star Chow Yun-fat also makes regular return trips.

Maybe trying to create a controversy over nothing, as the media often does.

ic3hir0 11th April 2007 12:55 PM

huh? how she upset the locals? i dun get it too.

Sim' 11th April 2007 12:57 PM

Thank you for the article =/

Not sure if I understood 100% what they want to say...

~X2RADialbomber~ 11th April 2007 12:58 PM

I think she upset the Locals because the bodyguards made sure no one sat around Ayumi.

hijingle 11th April 2007 12:58 PM

ha, i don't understand too...

LacusClyne 11th April 2007 01:05 PM

or she upset others because they did not allow photo taking???? since that seems to be the only point that dissappoint others

jasjasss 11th April 2007 01:27 PM

wth is this article
this is the worse article ever
where are the arguments ..
why are HK tabloids are so dodgey !

Surreal 11th April 2007 01:34 PM

LOL. So how did she anger them? I think maybe Ayu had too many bodyguards with her? Ugh I don't get it. Maybe they stopped them from taking photos even though they don't care about Ayumi? *shrugs* If that happened I guess I'll be pretty angry too. I think they don't really give a fly to Ayumi (some of them anyway).

ruixiong89 11th April 2007 01:41 PM

That's just dumb. What's wrong with that?! I think Ayu should be complaining even more that she can't see the folks because all she sees are her bodyguards!

WillofDusk 11th April 2007 02:01 PM

I... I .. don't get it. random words i suppose.
Anyone got explaination?

HK tabloids are famous for that... =D

Kodayumi 11th April 2007 02:52 PM

oh great, bad things abt her again :(

Yukitora 11th April 2007 03:00 PM

LOL

One person was offended for being told not to take any photos? xD

Either way, Ayu's 12 bodyguards is amusing. Well, I guess there are a lot of jealous/ayu-hating ppl out there *cough*

lol.... someone could feel it... auch auch** =p

JinHamasaki 11th April 2007 03:15 PM

This article is ridiculous. They are trying to make it sound like Ayu brought too many people (bodyguards) to the restaurant which upsets the locals. It's not like she spat on the food and started a food fight.

Uhm, the more people, the more mouths, the more money you make.

Halla 11th April 2007 03:31 PM

thanks for the news.

HK tabloid journalism at it's best :rolleyes

4ever*ayu 11th April 2007 03:40 PM

is it really an article? it's normal for ppl to be upset when they not allowed to take photos with a famous artist, but ayu need some privacy too, especially when having meal (i think everyone need privacy when having meal).

about the bodyguard, they just doing their job, protecting a QUEEN.

Tasked 11th April 2007 03:44 PM

they're just tryin' to show that the PRESENCE of Ayu already has a huge effect.... that's how famous she is

andre2907 11th April 2007 03:49 PM

I would certainly be pissed if a celebrity appeared at the place where I'm eating with SEVENTEEN bodyguards who are aggressive and didn't let me walk nowhere near the tables...

Jeanette 11th April 2007 03:50 PM

well, I can understand them getting upset. I would too if I was sitting there trying to eat or walking down the street and all of a sudden a big time celeb with no warning comes in with about 22 people plus probably dozens of fans trying to get a pic or a signature, probably also making lots of noise and ca motion. I don't think she really needed 22 people to come with her so she could eat, but this isn't that huge of a deal to put in a tabloid or see it as news. This is like the 5 tabloid new in like a week. Dang!

I never really saw Ayu as a "diva" or a "celeb", I just saw her as "Ayu", someone I looked up too, but lately for the past couple a months she is just giving out this diva image with the 50,000 shopping sprees,10 dog keepers, menu demands and now getting drunk, the stupid bra thing and the 22 bodyguards, and the way the media keeps talking about ayu. It is kind of discouraging me. She just doesn't fell like ayu anymore. I hope I don't sound mean or anything, it is just my opinion.

Qt Mashi 11th April 2007 04:06 PM

if they want to blame someone then they should blame it on the crazy fans who wants to steal Ayu away in the first place. :P i'd proudly take the blame if so

Totally. Cant believe they have such great reporting skills... Should learn from them.

babamon 11th April 2007 04:15 PM

Comon. Ayu has been treating the fans so friendly thruout the trip. Signing autographs etc.. now they said Ayu doesn't let anyone sit near her/take fotos?

They are whining since they cannot accuse Ayu of anything outrageous.

Mirai Noah 11th April 2007 04:25 PM

Seems like they are trying to make something out of nothing. Oh well, thanks for the news.

tomoko-stepyou 11th April 2007 04:48 PM

Bless em. They tried so hard to make a dull story interesting, so they put other things that are scandalous in there. I mean, why the hell is the eye surgery thing in there?

Beauty4123 11th April 2007 05:25 PM

thanks for the news!

freedreamer 11th April 2007 05:28 PM

its so silly! whn i read it..i started laughing...ridiculous

ohsixthirty 11th April 2007 05:52 PM

I know I was thinking that too.

AyonZ 11th April 2007 06:03 PM

Thanks for the news, but it's kind of ridiculous =/

emi♡ 11th April 2007 06:06 PM

um, I like how they stuck this in there, "whose unusually large round eyes and fair hair are believed to have sparked a fad for eye-lid cosmetic surgery among Japanese girls...yeah thanks for reminding us :rolleyes

You know, after I don't know, a couple of days weeks whatever of all of these damn articles, I'm beginning to think that these people seriously have nothing else to do...The most populous country in the world and they have nothing better to do than talk about how Ayu's bodyguards wouldn't let them take pictures. Poor them.

But hey, congratulations to Ayu for still causing stirs in the media. At least we know that people still are interested in her.

100% agree with you, nothing make sens in this article O.o

HK's Medias have a weird way to welcome the Queen of J-pop... =/

AyonZ 11th April 2007 06:11 PM

Instead of listing out her past achievements, they would rather "defame"?

rainday 11th April 2007 06:20 PM

The HK media is SOOOO lame. Gah.. I'm glad Ayu isn't in HK anymore... hopefully these ludicrous articles will stop soon.

babamon 11th April 2007 06:44 PM

God i hate the HK media

~*Mabushii*~ 11th April 2007 06:58 PM

*laughs* FWIW if I was that famous.. and had been signing autographs, taking pictures, waving to fans, saying hello, having a concert and then getting blasted from someone after it..
I'D WANT 22 bodyguards to block people so I could eat while people would LEAVE ME THE HECK ALONE!

Geez, poor Ayu.. just let her have a break every so often without getting OFFENDED and having a whining article stupid media.. gwrar!

.. and also FWIW.. if _I_ was as rich as Ayu I would take HUGE shopping trips, and tell hotels what I want on MY menu because I certinally wouldnt want foods that I'm allergic to on there or foods that I just plain don't like.. and I'd also want someone to take care of my pets nasty stuff if I had pets.. :P

4ever*ayu 11th April 2007 07:08 PM

i don't really know about HK media before, but now i know
but i don't think all of'em are like this, you know, maybe they're just doing they're job, n' maybe they think by making some negative news about 'ayu the Queen' will mak'em became famous!
but honestly i don't really care about all this negative news about ayu lately
cause WE ALL KNOW THAT: RIGHT NOW AYU IS ON THE TOP OF A TREE
WITH TONS OF ENEMIES(MOST OF THEM ARE MEDIA) TRYING TO SHAKE THE TREE FROM THE BOTTOM WISHING THAT AYU WILL FALL DOWN FROM THE SUCCESS TREE.
I mean this year is ayu's best year, with the release of ayu's A BEST 2, her first ever Asia Tour, n' so much more...
you know that people always like to see someone fall down from his/her huge success more than seeing them gain more success, right?
i think that's the reason why they posted such negative news about ayu.

ayu'ssong 11th April 2007 07:14 PM

does she need that many bodyguards everywhere, or just outside japan?

Ayappe 11th April 2007 08:27 PM

It's stupid.
Why do they have to write something so.. so.. ridiculous?? The media are trying to destroy Ayu in so many ways =__=
If Hong Kong Media's continues like this.. Ayu won't go to Hong Kong anymore.. and I hope it won't happen.. For all the Ayu fans.. ç_ç

pop909 11th April 2007 09:40 PM

Were they expecting the Ayumi to be signing autographs as she was eating? She has a life too. Stupid media doesnt understand. SO WHAT if she had 22 body gaurds. This restraunt cant be that famous if it cant even have a room for 22 people. And how distracting could it be if they were in a room.

JesA 11th April 2007 10:26 PM

bleh just another article that means nothing...this one is even stupider than the whole OMG SHES DRUNK AND I SAW HER BRA article...

Ayumiko 11th April 2007 10:43 PM

umm what are they trying to say? She just have bodyguards to protect her...whats wrong with that? shes been signing autographs, waving to fans, taking pictures, when shes out of the hotel. Cant she have a time of her own where she can just eat without having to do that?

minna 11th April 2007 10:52 PM

thnks for that!
It's me or they are trying to do a lot fo contreversy on Ayu?!

miniayumi 11th April 2007 11:41 PM

Don't get all furious about a tabloid.

No one takes them seriously anyways.

*but thanks for posting it, thx for translation too

Bigtop 11th April 2007 11:56 PM

Another crazy issue in Hong Kong... (17 bodyguards is a lot - maybe they should fly on separate flights...)

Rurutia 12th April 2007 12:37 AM

wow, that is the silliest piece of writing i've ever read......but 12 bodyguards? that's a lot....i hate hong kong articles,

evolution7931 12th April 2007 12:57 AM

LOL. Just LOL.

Peger 12th April 2007 01:25 AM

I don't see what about that upset the locals. I think they just gave the article a title that will grab the readers attention.

Eigakan 12th April 2007 02:14 AM

ahh this is just tabloid fodder

AyuGAME 12th April 2007 02:44 AM

upset by what? i don't understand

Surreal 12th April 2007 02:46 AM

The villagers are upset that their nice quiet dining experience has been disturbed. I think it's pretty clear from the article. It's a small matter, but if you pay good money for a meal, I don't think you want to disturb or stopped from walking somewhere remotely near to a singer you don't even know.

Chandrachan 12th April 2007 03:04 AM

wow...Ayu causing trouble now? Maybe Ayu just wanted some quiet time while eating
arigatou for the article

Peger 12th April 2007 03:12 AM

Oh please, if a famous singer walked into the restaurant i was eating at my first thought wouldn't be "well NOW my dinner's ruined".

Personally, even if i hated the singer in question (like say, Ashlee Simpson), I'd still be intruiged. I don't think I'd go crazy and try and get an autograph though, I'd only do that for Ayu, Kuu, or Namie:yes

catwoman 12th April 2007 08:18 AM

This is the way a typical HK tabloid does their work. Apple Daily and whatever fruits you have. If not they would have closed down long ago.

robochar 12th April 2007 09:21 AM

Wow. Just wow. It looks like they are trying hard to find stuff bad on her and are phailling. Hard. Because...ZOMG HOW DARE SHE GO INTO RESTAURANT! D: I mean...common...even the article said they didn't know what they did...they just HAD to mention it. Wtf...

And what the heck was with the comment about the eye surguries? How random was that o.O;
