she's actually chinese, scouted by Avex China. but she's releasing her debut single in japanese later this autumn. I really like her sound, she has a very traditional chinese way of using her voice :yes

there are samples off the upcoming single & streamable PV on her site.

but anywho....i like the sound of the preview on the site. she really does have a very 'chinese sound' to her voice. i think i could come to like her depending on her material.

It's more Tibetan or Mongolian rather than Chinese. So much for stereotypes eh? Hmph.

I thought Mongolian when I heard the PV preview as well actually. I hardly think it's a crime to think it sounded Chinese though. Some traditional Chinese music isn't way far off from her sound, and I wouldn't really call that stereotyping.

Well, if only someone made mention of it being Chinese Traditional Folk, then it would probably be more accurate. It's annoying when people just slap labels like that without getting clear their genres, since Chinese music nowadays doesn't sound anything like that.

She's got a good voice, but I think her official website is scary. Her face is just HUGE on that homepage!

the PV reminds me a lot of madonnas "Frozen" video ... her voice is indeed really high but I like it how it goes with the music ... not as annoying as Ai's high_pitching_making_my_ears_bleed voice

maybe it's because not everything revolves around the english language?:innocent I mean, Miriam is a perfectly fine name for a woman in Portuguese language, and might as well be in other languages.

I'm not saying that Miriam is an awful name, I actually like it since it's unique. I was just pointing out how interesting Record Labels give chinese/mandarin singers foreign stage names.

I just looked at her website (Which is nice) and I most say that I'm qutie impression. Her voice is so moving and it puts me in a calming mood. I like think from what I can hear of it.

Her name is Alan because her Chinese stage name is pronounced as A-Lan (阿蘭/阿兰), which is derived of from her real name, which is Alan Dawazhuoma (阿兰·达瓦卓玛). ^-~

Hmm....well, I don't think she'll sell a whole lot since it hard for foreign artist to sell in Japan. Look at RAIN...he has plenty of good and sellable songs but they sold no quite as well as BoA! :weep (Am I even making sense right now..lol)

^Avex needs to promote their new artist a lot if they want them to make it in the biz. They spend way to much time promoting their big artist and never on the newcomers or low sellers. If it was for Ayu...they'd prolly be nothin'!

IMO Avex does a lot of promoting. Satomi Takasugi has huge promotion for her debut single.

it's just that Avex & any label won't promote an artist if they suspect they won't get the sales they expect in return, and when the artist is established with their fanbase they won't need as much promowork as before.

Eh... the high-pitched voice gets on my nerves... I dunno how much commercial success she'll have but best of luck to her.

The a-side song is ok but the chorus just makes my ears bleed, her high pitch voice can be compared to YUKI's which is just as ear-bleeding.

The covers are utterly fantastic. Love the whole arctic feel to it. Fits winter well. Her vocals are different. Remind me of those particularly wild vocals. I'm not sure if this will sell though.

Yeah. I was still remembering that great voice of Stephanie, but her voice sounds more pop-ish. alan sounds wild and so traditional, it's a different mixture of strong things. Thanks to fanmail for presenting her to me :heart
