Anyone heard anything about this? I want to preorder it, but I'm a little hesitant because I have no idea what it is @_@

a_yu_volution 6th June 2003 12:18 PM

yeah...an A-DVD....but have to consider your soundcard...if u r running it on PC....hope there r some special stuff with it,...

thncxz for the info...

nmskalmn 6th June 2003 12:22 PM

DVD AUDIO is like a CD that you play with your DVD player. The sound quality is supposed to be far better than CD. There probably isn't any video on this disc.

Thanks for the link and info.

matt 6th June 2003 12:28 PM

What a strange thing to release, especially since it's so long after the initial release of 'Rainbow'. Everyone who wanted to own Rainbow would have it already, and I wouldn't think the demand for DVD Audio would be particularly great?

Maybe it's something else? @_@

a_yu_volution 6th June 2003 01:15 PM

no...i think it's because it's targeted for higher quality listening...since the advances in technologies...cuz with the higher storage capacity on a DVD simply means higher music rate...and if your soundcard doesn't hav the capability to encode it...u could try WinDVD...anyway lotsa bands and artist hav released A-DVD...such as eric clapton and metallica...

rainbow_momiji™ 6th June 2003 01:16 PM

i am going to get it! play it on my dads expensive hi fi if he lets me use it:(

xiaohui 6th June 2003 02:39 PM

Quote:

What is DVD-Audio?

DVD-Audio is a format specifically designed to provide the highest possible audio fidelity capable on DVD. The audio fidelity of DVD-Audio far exceeds the quality of conventional CD's and audio on DVD-Video.

DVD-Audio takes advantage of the large storage capacity, speed and flexibility possible with DVD. DVD-Audio provides for audio in stereo and in multi-channel surround in a wide range of specifications. In addition to audio, a DVD-Audio disk can contain a limited amount of video, which can be used to display text, such as lyrics or notes; or stills such as a photo album. Up to 16 graphic stills can be associated with each track and on-screen displays can be used for lyrics and disc navigation. As an option, a DVD-Audio disc can also include audio tracks recorded in the DVD-Video specification (Dolby Digital and DTS) for compatibility with DVD-Video players.
DVD-Audio discs won't play in standard CD players, and won't work in all DVD players.

kawai 6th June 2003 06:38 PM

It should works if your DVD is purchased within these 1.5 years. Read the manuals to comfirm on this.

Easy way for Avex to earn more revenue through, use back the same master tape and encode it in DVD-Audio for higher quality and a bit of extra...

Hold on.....It's July 9th, if Yesasia and others can't order for you, I might be able to help over in Tokyo in preordering, got to be early through.

shinjite 6th June 2003 06:49 PM

wow. i'd relaly like to purchase this! *goes to read dvd manual!*

[new] Rainbow Dvd Audio

a new RAINBOW DVD AUDIO would be released on July 9, itz the RAINBOW album plus the song RAINBOW released in a dvd audio format cd, which means much better quality than normal cd

source: http://www.neowing.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=AVAD-91200

i personally think this is kinda a rip-off....itz just release an album with all the songs in the RAINBOW album and the song RAINBOW itself in a dvd format...yea i might have better quality..but..is it really worth it???

Unimatrix Prime™ 7th June 2003 05:15 AM

Not totally OT, but regarding DVD-audio ... it's a relatively new DVD format, which can have loads of songs and some vids (kinda like those Enhanced CDs today), but I'm not sure if all DVD players can play DVD audio, so unless you've got a DVD player in your car or elsewhere, it's not too practical to get, and in the end, you won't really hear much (if any) difference in audio perception from these discs.

Cientifik 7th June 2003 05:15 AM

i dont think its worth it. i probably wouldnt notice the difference in quality anyway. cd quality is just fine for me.

ayu_ready78 7th June 2003 05:54 AM

The DVD-Audio version of RAINBOW may be worthwhile to those ppl that A)don't have the album yet and have the DVD-A player or B)collects everything Ayu-related. Even tho I have a DVD-Audio player, IMO the technology hasn't been that sucessful as of lately. Now, if companies started putting out DVD-Audio players for car stereos and the new format really caught on, then this would be something to consider. Otherwise, me not wasting my money on this version no matter what the extras are included on it.

Piccolo 7th June 2003 06:25 AM

32 dollars? Uh... isn't that a bit pricy?

sunny 7th June 2003 07:26 PM

:eek another shocking product....
if it also contain the RAINBOW pv it's ok...
seems like avex's just too cheapskate to pleased ayu's fans

and... question... about mettalica and eric clapton also released audio dvd... how many tracks are there in the dvd?

AVEX should at least give us the RAINBOW instrumental, not only 1 track in one DVD

shinjite 7th June 2003 07:37 PM

i would really enjoy this, but i don't think that my dvd player plays dvd-audio plus, it dosen't even play other region codes other than american ones. my dvd player on my computer can play all region codes , though. how do i figure out if my dvd player on my computer supports dvd-audio????

nmskalmn 7th June 2003 08:21 PM

sunny, I think this DVD-Audio will contain all the songs from the RAINBOW album. Btw, here's a link to one of those Eric Clapton DVD-Audio releases:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...7307?vi=glance

It has 12 songs.

Takke 8th June 2003 09:00 AM

about DVD-Audio

Hopefully I can answer some questions about the DVD-Audio format:

First of all, DVD-Audio discs are primarily used for audio, but can hold a VERY LIMITED amount of video/graphics - so don't expect any PVs or behind-the-scenes footage on this disc.

DVD-Audio discs have MUCH higher sampling rate than your standard CDs for the highest possible audio quality. The audio on a DVD-Audio disc even exceeds the audio on a DVD-Video disc.

In addition, the DVD format allows for the tracks to be encoded with Dolby Digital or DTS 5.1 surround sound.

MOST (and I stress the word "most") DVD-Audio discs are compatible with standard DVD players, but you should always inquire before hand to make sure. Those DVD-Audio discs that are compatible with regular DVD players will have both a DVD-Audio and DVD-Video logo on them. However, when playing a DVD-Audio Disc in a regular DVD player, the sound quality will be the same as a regular CD.

Regular CD players WILL NOT play DVD-Audio discs, so don't even try.

PCs are NOT COMPATIBLE with DVD-Audio discs, that is, they can't decode the high sampling rate. However, because most PCs nowadays have DVD Drives, they will most likely be able to play DVD-Audio discs as regular CDs with lower sound quality.

So there ya have it. DVD-Audio discs are for those who really like great sound. Trust me, they do sound incredible.
I hope this helps.

trainspotter01 14th June 2003 05:00 AM

personally i wouldnt buy this album, but i dun think it's a ripoff
this dvd disc's not only targeting to ayu fans but also ppl who r into high quality soundsystem
