Why is it WOMEN instead of WOMAN?
Hi there!:shihi
I have a question about my name's WOMEN: Why is it WOMEN and not WOMAN? because women is plural... Well, you do get my point, right? THANK YOU |
I think the song was intent to represent all women and not just Ayu! XD That's my explaination!
|
Good point but it says my. and there's only one "my" which is Ayumi.
Why does she always think of vague titles? :confused |
Taking in the my it probably means that the song is something every girl can relate to and sing about so its like it was by her but for every girl - Generalisation.
That or its just a tad engrish cos she's not a native english speaker |
Becuase she's not a native English speaker and there's a lot of Engrish in her songs and lyrics...
|
All hail the engrish for non-native english speakers...

And maybe it's "my" because, um... it's about women how ayu sees them? Or maybe it's because every woman has several sides to herself? |
Because avex has not yet employed someone who is actually fluent in English to correct Ayu's broken Engrish.
|
I'll go with the intentional too. She's representing all women, her name is women, because she is speaking for all women. Could be engrish too, idk.
There's also Greatful Days. That's wrong too, grammatically, it's spelled grateful. Maybe because the days were great and she is grateful for them? That one is a little harder to defend, might just be a grammatical error as they are pronounced the same way. Who knows. |
^I think "Greatful days" was intentional, too... We can never know, though. At least if ayu didn't explain it herself.
|
^ Maybe. "Are You Wake Up?" is just out there tho. I always understood it as "are you awake?", but who knows what they meant with it. At least my name's WOMEN and Greatful Days made some sense.

my name's WOMEN
MY name. WOMEN. I represent all women. I speak for all women. So, my name's WOMEN. |
"Are you ready?" morphed into "Ayuready?" so perhaps "Are You Wake Up?" is supposed to morph into "Ayu Wake Up?". So yeah, the interlude is basically trying to wake Ayumi from her sleep. :P

There ya go. :) |
Ok, I think it's like ... there are two entities in the world.
WOMEN and MEN my names WOMEN your names MEN like, all women come together to form one conscious being, and same with the men. i think that is what she meant by it. |
I've always thought of it as Ayu's very own "I'm Every Woman" (Chaka Khan) song. Instead of it being about all women, it's Ayu representing every woman. When you look at it that way, she kind of does fit the part for almost every stereotype of a woman with the exception of Suzie Homemaker/Mommie Dearest of course...but I'm sure Ayu will eventually settle down in the future.

I'm going with the former idea that it was intentional, like I'm Every Woman. But I wouldn't be surprised it it was Engrish. |
i take as she as an individual is representing all women, hence my and hence women
|
according to the PV, I think she might indicate herself as the "leader", who shows everyone how to get along :P
|
Either way, it's not like "my name's woman" or "my name's women" make any sense grammatically.

I don't get the whole CAP size thing too. What's the purpose? Is it to more notice to the CAP'ED word or something???

But when dealing with Jpop peeps, who knows. |
Sort of like she's saying "My Name's WOMEN" as if she's saying she represent all Women in the song. She is all Women and she has a message. Sort of like that. Thats my belief anywho. Like if you were to say My Name's Payback. Youd be representing Payback as a whole, an idea.

About the capitalized thing-
I notice when Japanese is romanized sometimes katakata words are written in all caps... and the hirigana is just written in normal case. So maybe the Japanese see WRITING IN ALL CAPS as if it is katakana... the equivalent of italisizing or drawing attention to it... |
Like already said before, I think that it's because she's representing all women and speaking up for them. That's why only her name is women, because she is sticking up herself, not as if all women are. I don't know, it could just be due to the fact that her English isn't wonderful. But it isn't too bad. After all, she spoke very well during that CNN interview.

The mystery of song titles! LOL

Anyone else think this is inspired by eastern music? |

or it could just be her really bad english.
|
Or she could be doing something slightly intelligent with a song title.

If you pay attention to the lyrics, Ayu is speaking in the first person plural form ("we/us"). She is speaking on behalf of all women united. It's not Engrish, it's intellectual and artistic. |
just putting down a possible point.
|
I think it is because it is an anthem for all "WOMEN" and not just herself.
|
It's probably just Engrish
|
yeah.. im confused too..
the english names of songs.. like GREATful days.. but not Grateful days |
Yes, she's speaking for all WOMEN, duh, it was done on PURPOSE. I think GREATFUL DAYS was done on purpose too... because the days were... great. And she's also grateful for them. :p

But the idea of engrish is right too I think:) |

the "great"ness is completely out!:):):):):) |
