I just heard the clip. It's good but Utada's vocals were shaky. No doubt that if she sanged this song while she was in her Exodus era, she would have blowen this song out of the water. I'm glad that she and Ne-Yo have did this collabo. Heck, I'm glad I've heard some Utada period. You know, this is very sneeky on Def Island because they releasing it digially...in Japan. Can this song break FoL's record? :laugh

Anyways, here's another rant. I srsly doubt Ne-Yo even bothered to visit Utada, let alone re-record it with her. I reckon it was simply a case of, "Here's your money and a vocal track, now work with it. Oh... and I like you voice, Utada?". :grumpy

Personally, I find it refreshing that we get some news about Hikki and her English work but Ne-Yo??!!! UGH! I definitely hate Ne-Yo, I think she coulda worked with someone else but if it's exposure for her, that's good I guess. I dunno. I adored Exodus and voila no collaborations (meaning like duet / featuring) so I kinda hope she does that again. We just need another "Animato" - if she can pull off another out of this world, special track like that, then I'll be happy!!

I've already posted one on the BoA thread and in one of the Ayumi threads but truthfully, this is my absolute favorite. I can't speak Japanese so if you can help me out with translations, you'd be my love forever.

Okay, lots of Japanese titles but I really thought they would sound prettier in Japanese. Okay, I don't know the names in Japanese but in English... eh... I'll admit I'm not crazy about the album title but I do like it. You know representing something beautiful that needs growth [water] to live. What do you guys think? Remember, I put a lot of time into this so don't be too harsh [guilt trip, j/k] But yeah, I'm gonna work on one of these for her English albums too. The new version of "Do You" with Ne-Yo... Well I hate Ne-Yo but despite what a lot of people say, I really like Hikki's vocals - on the whole though, it BETTER not be on the album even as a bonus track = NO!

I really like the titles you came up with. Heart of Glass is actually a song already, but it's not the exact same title, though it is quite close.

As for the Ne-Yo collab, I'm actually liking it quite a bit. I don't like Ne-Yo, but they sound quite good together.

Those titles are a bit...too pop-like to be Hikki-like titles. Not saying that they are bad titles (they are actually nice) but I think Hikki like titles witha bit more meaning behind them...plus, titles that no one has heard of before.

@bondigo: Yea! I've actually listened to the 45 second clip like 100+ times today. Also, I didn't like Ne-yo at first but when he released his lastest album, Because of You, my opinions changed quickly about him. THAT ALBUM IS AWESOMELY HOTT!

Well one thing that I do agree with you on is that collaborating with Ne-Yo would definitely put her name out at least in the idea of the American crowd for collaborating with someone as big as Ne-Yo. But how is this song being released? Will it really give Utada some American exposure or is this just gonna be like on an international re-release of his album or something?

I'm one of the people who absolutely adored Exodus (my favorite album of all time) despite it not fairing so well in America sales wise. It's true that because she did take over a lot, she did risk the chance of not getting those big names known she worked with them. But I would hope she's making an album for the sake of really wanting to creating an English album to express herself, not just to make a great-selling album. If she wanted to do that, then there are a lot of things she could do that she shouldn't.

In all Ne-Yo hating asides, I actually like Hikki's voice on the song and I am willing to admit that he didn't sound bad but yes, Hikki does do justice on the new version.

But seriously, I'm not trying to bash Ne-Yo, I'm just saying that I think he's ugly. Okay, I guess that's bashing a little but I do think he's ugly and apparently, I'm not the only one who thinks though. Something about him just turns me off - I was just telling a friend about this who agrees with me in dislike. I'm sure he's a nice guy but something about him comes across as mean to me. I can't really put it into words but that's what it feels like. So all in all, song isn't ugly, Hikki's vocals aren't ugly, Ne-Yo's ugly! :)

BUT the one thing I will totally agree with you on is that we're getting some progress on this Englsih album. I just hope she's not gonna pull a COLORS on us again. First, Japan and then America but I'm mega excited for both!!! I just would rather not have Ne-Yo on this album even as a bonus track. No, uh-uh, sorry...

i never said anything bad about Ne-Yo or said he was ugly. i actually like the guy ever since he appeared on KAT-TUN's show. he seems like a fun guy and i do like some of his music! i just don't like the cover. that's all.

i know we shouldn't be judging it by the preview, but it's only an opinion. i didn't like "Passion" when the preview was out, but it became one of my favorite Utada Hikaru songs when i heard it in full. :)

^its not bad, but it sounds like every other prepubescent R&B artist out there. I love R&B but this new generation need to branch out on their own and find their own flavor. The selection is very...boring.

Right Ne-Yo is also well known in Japan, He was kat-tun's talk show as a quest apperance and one of the band memeber's Koki is a HUGE fan of his.

True. Ne-Yo and Utada worked together most likely because they were under the same record label. And it'll be good if Utada got promotion through this single and she would be able to release her album around that time also.

No, I don't think it "just" was a record label thing. Jay-Z and LA "Reid" referred Ne-Yo to her. So, I think they Utada in mind for him for a good minute. Just my opinion though.

I was really anxious to hear Stay Gold too. It seems no more info on the song won't be coming anythime soon. You know, if Ne-Yo eanted to promote his single even better, he and Utada should made a PV. I could use a PV with Utada (Hikki) in it. I pray that Hikki's next PV will be mind blowing. Well I'm thinking it's kinda been a while since the CM was released and since there's no announcement for a single release, it'll probably have to be sometime next year. That would be extremely long wait so would you think the song would be released even though the CM was aired like 3 months ago? I don't know anything about that system but that seems like a really long time. So "Stay Gold" PV? I dunno but I really want Hikki to release a new single in JANUARY! JANUARY! Ugh, blame that on EMI! They want to release that funky UH clip collections instead of CD+DVD versions of her singles/albums. The next installment of the UH clip collection wouldn't be good at all since she hasn't done a PV with her actually in it. I think Hikki is the only artist there who stick to American way of releasing albums (CD only). Hmmm....maybe EMI see more of a profit if they just release a CD only or they just care for their customers and don't want them having a hard time choosing which version they want to have!!!! :laugh

I don't know but wouldn't releasing a CD Only / CD + DVD be more profitable (well not this one) but let's say like Deep River. Even Namie who did those Filmography things spanning across like 2 albums' worth of PVs released PLAY in 2 editions so Hikki should too.

I'm pretty sure they worked together because they were under the same label. I think Utada is their only Japanese-English person. So they spoke about her when they thought "oh hey we do have a japanese asian, what's her name?" because he's singing these with different people of different territory...

It doesn't help though, that Utada's vocals absolutely SUCK in this song. That's my opinion though.

Hopefully she'll actually work with him in a song, because his NeYo/Rihanna song is great.
