the MEG thread
MEG is a model/fashion designer and, more recently, singer. She debuted in 2001 with the indies single "kasa to shizuku." In mid-2007 Yasutaka Nakata began producing her music and she released her 9th indies single, "amai zeitaku," which hit no. 2 on the Japanese electric charts. She made her major label debut on October 3rd, her 27th birthday, with the single "OK." It peaked at 43 on Oricon and has sold nearly 6k since.

^ I just ordered "BEAM" earlier today. I noticed CDJapan only had one first press copy left, so I added it to one of my open orders, lol.
I'm looking forward to hearing her cover of capsule's "dreamin dreamin" on there. I hope Nakata didn't change the arrangement too much, 'cause the kinda-hopeful-kinda-sadness of it's what made me love it so much it in the first place <3 |

Yeah, "MODEL" is good. <3 I think my favorite of the new tracks is "ROMANTIKA," though. I just love that part at 1:45 - it makes the whole song for me, lol

I keep trying her out but idk, I keep getting put off. I think it's because Nakata is becoming too 1-trick-pony for me. Almost all his stuff is starting to sound the same...especially since when I first tried MEG out it sounded just like a capsule song, vocals and all.
BUT not to say that I don't like her new album. It just doesn't really stand out to me. |

She's slightly down to 16 today, and capsule's at 17. I think their first week sales are going to be pretty close.

I think Capsule would outsell MEG if Toshiko would sing on every track. I find majority of the non-vocal Capsule tracks to be a lot less interesting than the ones with Toshiko singing.
also Capsule's newest album isn't that good, Sugarless GiRL was a lot better. even on the instrumental tracks. I don't find MEG to be anything that good looking actually, I think she looks rather plain with bad hipster/scenester hair & clothes :o |

I downloaded BEAM, listened to the first track, I like it, I'm gonna listen to the rest of the album. Even if some of the tracks sound the same like people have been saying, I think it's still going to be enjoyable.

The album was 24th for the week and sold 10,544 copies. capsule's was 20th and sold 12,301.

STEP has leaked! And boy is it good. Love it. Especially loving "Prism Boy"! It's way too short though! Only 10 tracks, and 3 of those were on previous singles... and 2 of them are remixes to songs already on the album! So only 5 real new tracks... I want more! :laugh

Perfume is definitely more pop influenced, but MEG is more experimental and club-like. I love it. STEP's a great album, but GIRLY STEP will forever pwn every song she releases. It's so awesome.

^OMG I love "Girly Step". I've also been in love with the "OK" single lately... so much better than anything on BEAM. "I'm In Love" is so gorgeous, love the Engrish too.

I don't know how it works to stay at a good position on the weekly ranking, but HMV gave her a lot of attention since the album appeared for pre-ordering.
I read that Amai Zeitaku sold 570 copies and OK (the first of the UNIVERSAL era) sold 5,186 copies... and BEAM was number 24 at Oricon. |
