Quote:

Mariah And Janet: The Return
Def Jam/ Island CEO Antonio 'LA' Reid jetted into London yesterday afternoon to present new releases from Ms Janet Jackson and Ms Mariah Carey.

Two of the world's most iconic have been busy squirreling in the studio and return with Jackson's Discipline and Carey's That Chick.

Reid identified both artists as having a whole lot of 'swagger' - before dropping a little dig to EMI. "That's a music company. Well, it used to be," he grinned before showcasing a bit more *****iness. Or truth, depending on your POV! "We realised that it would take some work with Janet after her last two EMI album weren't successful. Just like the last Mariah EMI album..."

Once that was done, it was on with the music. Reserving full opinion until we've had the chance to sit down properly with both records, we can however say that we think MC won out.

Janet seemed fairly ok - a couple of good club tracks - but otherwise somewhat generic uptempo and slow R&B numbers that sounded like they could have been off-cuts from All For You or Janet. And there was no need for Discipline. To put it bluntly, JJ apologises to her 'daddy' for 'touching herself' even though he 'commanded' her not to. 'But I can smell you on my sheets/ Daddy I disobeyed you, now come punish me...I've been bad, make me cry...' and so on and so on. Yuck.

Luckily, Mariah kept it a whole lot cleaner (but not squeaky, that would be dry!)

The first few tracks were big, but MC really hit hard with absolute banger Migrate featuring T-Pain. Oh my daze!!! "We sippin' Grigio slow," murmurs Mariah over some serious dirty south bounce. Not too sure about her dropping a bit of patois on the Damian Marley assisted Cruise Control ('Me say no man... tink I'm jokin'), but we'll forgive her such strangeness considering the tune packs heat.

Vocally and sonically, this is yet another outstanding release from the world's biggest selling superstar.

Watch out for a full review once the records are in for review...

Janet is out February 25 and Mariah drops April 1st.

Exclusive Review: Mariah's "That Chick" Is Out Of Control!
Last night in a central London hotel theatre, Def Jam head L.A Reid invited a very exclusive VIP audience to hear the new albums from both his 2 top divas Janet Jackson and Mariah Carey. With stringent rules laid down at the top of the evening about not leaving the room for a bathroom visit, handing over all gadgets and returning song word sheets we knew it was about to go down.

Beginning with Janet's new material which sees Janet reworking her old sounds from the days of Velvet Rope and Control, Janet's material was quite sexually overt and a little gross ("real heavy like my first period"!) but it was really Mariah's new material that blew everyone away.

Mariah's new album, tentatively titled That Chick, saw collaborations with T Pain, Young Jeezy and Damien Marley with production by her long time friend and producer Jermaine Dupri, Will I Am, Rodney Jerkins and The Dream.

The new music with catchier hooks and melodies than ever, even sees Mariah taking on an exciting new musical adventure where she sings in Jamaican patois on her Damien Marley duet "Cruise Control" where she references "dramas" and "baby mamas" and like your favorite rap star Mariah throws down a new Mariahism ("you love yourself some me!") soon as the album gets into the public domain.

Urban music lovers in the house were really excited about that track as well as hip-hop banger "Heat" produced by Will I Am, "For Real,For Real", and "Migrate" where 2007's hit man T Pain hooks up with Mariah but it was the title track "That Chick" with its double entendres which includes a tip of the hat to Michael Jackson with references to his "Of The Wall Classics" that had pop chart taste makers excited claiming it was the number 1 track on the album closely followed by likely international pop hit "Love You Long Time".

In typical Mariah fashion there were the legendary ballads "Love Story" and tear jerker "Bye Bye" (an ode to people who have passed away) that will have reality pop contestants singing away for decades to come!

One track titled "O.O.C" summed up the night and the return of Mariah - once the albums out it's gonna be "Out Of Control!".

To recap, here are the confirmed tracks from the new, tentatively-titled Mariah Carey album, That Chick:

• "Touch My Body"
• "Migrate" ft. T-Pain
• "Heat"
• "For Real, For Real"
• "That Chick"
• "Cruise Control" ft. Damien Marley
• "O.O.C"
• "Bye Bye"
• "Love Story"
• "Love You Long Time"

looks great for this albumm..
thanks voltron..
almost 3 years she didnt realese album...
western artist need long time to produce one album

criminal 17th January 2008 06:05 PM

That Chick? I'm sorry, but has she had another nervous breakdown? She's not some 20-something who's debut album could pass with a lackluster title like that. Whatever. Janet's lyrics sound so gross. =X But I don't know, I'mma listen to both.

milky_way 17th January 2008 06:32 PM

That Chick? Ugh. Why, Mariah? Why?

Halla 17th January 2008 07:03 PM

Mariah's album sounds promising. Emancipation of Mimi was an excellent album, I'm sure That Chick will be as hot. I'm pretty sure will see a special edtion of that album released afterwards so I'm not in any rush to get it :rolleyes

I'm looking forward to the Janet album too. shame about the gross "sexy" tracks tho. She's been having a few of these in each of her previous albums. They are always just very akward and not sexy at all , gross as hell is more like it :dead2

Cyria 17th January 2008 08:38 PM

The cover is kinda odd. It doesn't seem like she's standing straight, but there's no visible chair either. She should have chosen one of those instead of this in-between pose.

criminal 17th January 2008 08:38 PM

I just noticed that picture. She now defines the word "classy".

Halla 17th January 2008 08:46 PM

I don't think the pic included is the cover, that pic doesn't look very recent to me ...

I think they both need to grow up and stop singing about "da club" and the stupid things that go on there. Such a waste of perfectly good talent. Those song titles sound like they're coming from an 18 year old.

rikku411 18th January 2008 04:59 AM

^ Is there something wrong with 18-year-olds, eh?

It has nothing to do with 'age', you can be any age and come out with titles that sound so empty and superficial.

In any case, I'll just wait to hear the songs before commenting. A track can have a horrible title and sound good, or vice-versa...

TITANIC 18th January 2008 02:59 PM

it's better if that pict isnt the cover because it reminds me to emantipation of mimi..

From Billboard with commentary from MariahDaily

Quote:

Two More Tracks from "That Chick"
Mariah Carey has set an April 1 release date for the follow-up to her mega-selling album "The Emancipation of Mimi," which was the biggest selling album of 2005. Dubbed "That Chick," the set features production from Jermaine Dupri, will.i.am and Rodney Jerkins, plus collaborations with the likes of T-Pain and Damian Marley.

The album veers between breezy pop tunes like "Lovin' You Long Time" and the title track, ballads like "Love Story" and urban club bangers like the standout "Migrate."

The latter features T-Pain in a guest slot, providing the counterpoint to Carey's anthemic "single girls on the town" lyrics with the killer line: "Don't wait for me to buy drinks, or you're going to dehydrate."

Other highlights include the frisky R&B of "Touch My Body," with Carey cooing, "If there's a camera up in here then I best not catch this flick on YouTube," and the catchy "OOC" -- short for "out of control." There's also a new sound for Carey on "Cruise Control," which features Marley and sees the artist try her hand at Jamaican patois.

"It's kind of strange but I heard a lot of her records and it sound like the album is better than the last album," Dupri recently told Billboard.

Here is the track list for "That Chick":

"Lovin' You Long Time"
"Touch My Body"
"That Chick"
"Thanx for Nothin'"
"For the Record"
"Migrate"
"Cruise Control"
"Love Story"
"OOC"
"Bye Bye"

Note: There are now 12 known tracks from the album - the list above plus the previously reported "For Real, For Real" and "Heat."

Halla 13th February 2008 04:11 PM

I think it's a nice title, seeing as MC is one her nicknames. I just wanna see how she explains the title, I wonder how much does she know of the einsteins original formula lol

I like the new song, it seems that the new album will be much like Emancipatio of Mimi which is a good thing IMO.

Cyria 13th February 2008 05:45 PM

E=MC^2 (Emancipation of Mariah Carey Part 2, I'd guess) is a pretty unexpected but entertaining title.

I like the new album title better than That chick as well. Has anyone heard Touch My Body? It's streaming on a website somewhere, but I don't know the link. It's mid-tempo and not bad, but it certainly isn't anything compared to other Mariah songs.

I like the new song, but I think it's not suitable as the lead single from the album. However, I'm SO glad the album isn't called "That Chick." I mean, come on. E=MC2 is so much better! And shows slightly more creativity lol.

Anyone know when another track might leak? I really want to get a feel for how the whole album is going to sound.

JaysenRyan 17th February 2008 06:22 AM

Im not trying to start anything. but its my personal opinion that Mariah Carey is the center of everything I hate. I do not like her recent musical efforts, and I do not like her in general. She USED to be an artist, now shes just a singer who puts out whats "hot" at the time.

Its ok that people like her and listen to her, but me personally i cant stand her.

Kaiouforever 17th February 2008 07:45 AM

Lol @ above.

I love Mariah's voice - it can match anything that's hot (or not) at the time. She's always done what sold well...because she's a good singer.

"Touch My Body" Named Newsday's Song of the Week
Song of the Week
It's nice to have Mariah Carey doing what she does best. Her new single "Touch My Body" (Island Def Jam) is in that "We Belong Together" sweet spot, a midtempo R&B ballad that lets MC show off her vocal abilities, but not too much. Crafted by Carey, with help from The-Dream and C. "Tricky" Stewart, "Body" has just enough street-wise touches to sound current and just enough balladry to make a bid for timelessness. It's probably the best opening single she's had since "Heartbreaker" introduced "Rainbow" in 1999, which is a good sign for her much-anticipated "E=MC²" album, due in April.

This congratulatory message from All Access to Island Def Jam appears on the site's Net News!

MEDIABASE and ALL ACCESS send out congratulations to STEVE BARTELS, ERIK OLESEN, BENNY POUGH, SHARON LEPERE, RICK SACKHEIM and the entire ISLAND DEF JAM MUSIC GROUP team as MARIAH CAREY grabs a record 223 monitored adds this week for her new single "Touch My Body."

This is the largest add week for any song since the system began combining projected adds with auto-adds in 2006. The previous record was held by INTERSCOPE's MAROON 5 with 177 in APRIL, 2007 with "Makes Me Wonder."

In comparison, after their first week of airplay, "We Belong Together" debuted at #81 and "It's Like That" was #104 (#4 on the bubbling under Hot 100 chart.)

On the Hot 100 Airplay chart, the song debuts at #23 this week and becomes Mariah's highest debut on the chart since 1997's "Honey" which debuted at the same position.

"Touch My Body" also rockets up to #20 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, an incredible 58 spots jump from its last week's debut at #78.

I needn't say more about what others have commented regarding the Touch My Body video. It's definitely one of thost "fluff" songs that are really guilty pleasures. I think this song will mostly be memorable though for the funny lyrics. "I will hunt you down!" "All up in my business like a Wendy interview!", and "I best not catch this flick on YouTube".

Sort of detracts from any seriousness the song could've had, but still funny. Also I totally thought the "Wendy interview" thing was in reference to the restaurant Wendy's, not Wendy the celebrity. :P Haha.

Mariah will be recording a special in the BET studios in NY tomorrow. I will be there and will hopefully have some reviews on new songs to give.

I went to the BluePrint special she did in 2005 before TEOM came out and got to hear Shake It Off before anyone else, and the first live of WBT (before the single was released). This one won't be a BluePrint special, but there will a singing and interviews...here's hoping it's something great!

^ WAHHHHH..so cool.... i hope it will be leaked very soon

So we get up to the studio and I'm right towards the front again, like in 2005. After waiting a while, she comes out and starts singing Migrate. Then she has the cameras stop, because the background singers weren't on stage. So she was like, guess that ruins my big entrance. She was wearing tight black sweat/spandex-y pants, black heeled boots, a white tee, and a leather/vinyl-y shiny half-jacket, with shiny necklaces, and her usual butterfly rings. She looked HOT and she is thin as hell. She didn't even change outfits this time. She was also a little sick, but managed through. So they restart Migrate and get through and we have to record it again because of some technical issues. T-Pain came out during the song to do his part. The song is a hardcore club banger. It's AWESOME! Definitely single material.

Next she did Touch My Body. Sounded even better than the recorded version. Everybody was singing along.

Next was Shake It Off. A pretty typical performance. Great vocals.

Then Love Story. I don't think this is single material, but it's a great JD track. Great great vocals, and really pretty. Can't wait to hear the full version. A nice powerful ballad. It starts and ends with Rachel's daughter and her friends singing.

Then she did That Chick. They gave the girls in the audience white boa's to shake in the air during this song. It's really a retro disco-funk track. Really upbeat and nice. Not as good as migrate, but definitely a hot track. I'm that chick that you like.

Finally, she closed with We Belong Together. Maybe not as great as when she performed in for the first time 2005, but she was also drowned out a little by the audience all singing with her. At the end she coughed a little, but the singing was done, so I'm sure they'll just cut to the audience for that part.

Overall, a great show. The filming was about an hour and a half. I'm really looking forward to the new album, and I'm sure it's going to be a part record the whole way through.

Oh and she was wearing a pair of Robert Cavalli sunglasses that he gave her. They were one of a kind. And she gave them to one of the girls from the annoying group in the audience! So jealous!

Overall, Mariah was hilarious as usual and giving hugs to everybody. Great show!

Cyria 9th March 2008 09:12 PM

You saw Mariah? Great! Nice to hear about her new material, I'm definitely looking forward to Migrate now.

ian lim 11th March 2008 10:28 AM

What can I say about this touch my body? Maybe we all have been waiting for so long for a new Mariah single, that's why we all "pretend" we love it? Hmm.... No lol!!! The song indeed catchy and grow on people. That's why every radios are playing like crazy. Mariah had enter a new phase/ style of singing since the TEOM era, anyone notice the vocal and style singing change? Is good as she improved in a positive way, unlike Celine, who losing her hit voice (listen to her Taking Chance). Hope this is another No1 for Mariah (for sure right?) hahahaha... :)

dddaiyamondo 12th March 2008 05:45 AM

Love the song, love the video. I really hope it hits #1... It's Like That, her last lead single, only hit #16, so I'm sure it'll do better than that. GO MC!

ian lim 12th March 2008 12:19 PM

sure number 1. :)
