I'm surprised nobody has mentioned B'z yet. They've been around for awhile (20 years actually), but I think their music is still great. Inaba Koshi's voice is strong and unique.

I prefer his ballads, though his rock songs are pretty good...Not to mention he's hot too! His Diablos album has my favorite ballad by him...[Todokanai ai to shite----] it's got a super long title, but the song is absolutely stunning to me.

Their Japanese album sucked terribly, but their Korean album was amazing. Since you like Tohoshinki (though you might not be into K-pop...?_?) they were a good introduction for me to Korean music.

slightly off topic..but... I remember long ago i was searching on you tube and there was this pv with an all guys bad in it and I think there was like 5-6 membrs and they were all running in the desert down this one road in one direction after the lead vocalist who though really not atractive had a great voice anybody know what im talkin about?
