Satomi Takasugi is an ex-gravure idol, race queen and current solo singer on Rhythm Zone. She is also a former member of the avex girl group wi☆th. She made her unofficial solo debut at the Rhythm Nation 2006 concert, performing a cover of Yoshiyuki Ohsawa's "soshite boku wa tohou ni kureru." She made her official debut, however, when she released her first solo single, "tabibito," on June 6, 2007. Since then she has released two more double a-sided singles, "hyaku renka / tooku hanarete mo" and "yukiboshi / soshite boku wa tohou ni kureru."

She will release her fourth single, "issho ni," and debut album, "garden," simultaneously on February 20th.

I don't think the NINKI numbers matter that much - Wouldn't they be polling perhaps a crowed of people who would rather buy Boybands or Koda Kumi? IMO Satomi seems more the type of artist to appeal to the adult audience..

Have any of you seen this performance she did of "WON'T BE LONG" with Kumi Koda, TRF and some random guy? I think it was filmed last summer, 'cause she's wearing the "tabibito" outfit.

She looked pretty nervous/awkward, but her solo line was pretty good <3

"garden" = <333333333 "HOMETOWN" and "kimi yo, hikari no..." are totally my new favorite <3

also, it seems she's singing "hikari no tsubute wo nagete" instead of "reki," like I had originally romanized the song title. They both basically mean the same thing, though, "reki" is like a pebble and "tsubute" is a throwing-stone.

i'm only up to the 3rd track, lol. i hope the rest of the album will be good.

Good album. Not what I expected, since I love all the single tracks to death, but I really like the new songs. My favorite is HOMETOWN. And wow, the Yukiboshi remix is simply amazing. Totally unexpected.

As for the album...errmm...I'm not a BIG fan of ballads but it's soothing nonetheless. I really liked 'Hometown' and 'Kagami iro' because they were both so relaxing. But 'Kono Mune ni Zutto' and 'Kimi yo, Hikari no Tsubute wo Nagete' were pretty cool too. I need to get a little more used to it first but the songs are growing on me. =)

Just three things about the lyrics:

ha = wa
o = wo
e / a = you can put it together with the last word / exemple: "ashita e" should be "ashitae"

I think she'll do a bit better than Ami. Her singles usually fall for the first few days, then stabilize in the same position for a few days and rise a bit during the weekend. hopefully the album'll follow suit.

album's up slightly to no. 16 today.

YesAsia normally ships the day after release... and the shipping tkaes about 1 week to get to me (Australia) so its probably longer the furhter you live away.

i doubt garden will sell 100k, i think if it sells ~20k for first week it may sell around 40-50k...

Well, I hope it sells considerably more than her singles at least~ and maybe her single sales will go up now, after the debut album?

Anyway, I just downloaded the Issho ni single from JPS... I haven't listened to diary very well yet, but I love the Issho ni remix~! It's called "Peaceful Acoustic Remix", yet it's a lot less "peaceful" than the original version, lol~ I like it a lot better than the original mix!

...then I'll probably have it by christmas :weep

yesss, the remix is lovely. I'm really digging the acoustic guitars and the harmonic or whatever in it, very good <3 and, I think "diary" is her best b-side, too, though technically "VERANDA no hana" is her only other b-side, haha.

the single deserves to rank better than it is, too. I think they should've left it off the album, and waited to release it afterwards.

garden debuted at #17 with 11k sales.

I'm abit disappointed. I was hoping for more 20-30k sales, but with 11k...... it's going to be a struggle to break 25k.

and Issho ni btw, didn't even top 50 chart ;o

Wow, with those sales I highly doubt avex is gonna focus on her as much as they did with Tabibito anymore. That's too bad, because Garden is a really original album, albeit a little too subdued for my tastes.

Wow, Tabibito is quite possbly the most gorgeous song ever. Glad the album has been getting some success, but it could do better. =(

well, at least the album's first week sales are more than double her last singles' first weeks. and it was only about a thousand off from "tabibito's," and that single went on to sell over 43k.

Maybe her future releases will chart higher. All I know is that I'm rooting for her because her music is just too good. Her voice is really cute and it fits in well with her choice of genre. But I think now Max Matsuura is re-thinking his choice :P Saying she was going to become the next Hamasaki Ayumi....well, doesn't look like it but it would be cool if she did :D

got my copies of "garden" and "issho ni" today. the booklet with "garden" is beautiful. it's got a lot of shots Satomi took herself, and some really pretty shots of her. my favorite is the one where she's laying in the grass <3

later, if I can, I may rip the making of "issho ni" and the bonus video(s) on "garden."

My copy of garden came today too. o_o the DVD is boring, lol. The PVs are so great but that bonus thing called "another garden" is terribly boring. And is there a longer version of Tabibito PV? I've never watched it before. The booklet is so great. :heart

Guys! I don't know if any of you have ever saw this live performance of 'Tabibito' but it's awesome! It's so pretty sounding, especially at the beginning! I was wondering if anyone knows how to rip music from AMVs? I really want this version before the videos disappears! :(
