The Song Review Thread!

I got this idea from other forums. What happens is someone will upload a song and the next user will give an unbiased review of what they thought of it. You may only a review a song if it's one you've never heard before.

Anyway, so I'll start off!

Zwei - 1 + 1 = 2

(Ignore this link, it doesn't work anymore. Teehehe)

Huaka 28th February 2008 07:29 AM

Aww, no one wants to try this? =(. It's a good opportunity to try out other artists (unless everyone's heard this song from Zwei...)

truehappiness 28th February 2008 07:31 AM

-NOT REVIEWING-

I imagine people are not used to it.

Hm. I wonder if I should do this. XD Perhaps you should stick it in your signature to attract attention?

Calico 28th February 2008 08:51 AM

I wanna do it! But I've only heard that song a few thousand times by now. :laugh

Huaka 23rd April 2008 10:51 AM

Okay, so reviving this thread back from the dead. I decided to upload a less known song. See how this goes. (Btw, I remember the place I downloaded this from was very explicit on how things she uploaded were to be placed elsewhere, so I'll say I got this from shekimusic's livejournal. Just to make sure she won't get upset if she happened to find this uploaded.)

Sarina - Cyber Girl

If you're a fan of Nakata's works you may want to try this one. He collaborated with this artist as well.

Huaka 3rd May 2008 10:58 AM

Well, I guess this was a complete fail. -_-;;. So sad, it was a good idea too.

pommy48 3rd May 2008 06:14 PM

aww this is a good idea, but maybe it'll be better with videos, cause you have to download the songs and that take a long time..
Edit: well not a long time, just that people have to sit and wait till it finishes, then open in a media player...would be easier with videos~

Huaka 4th May 2008 07:06 AM

Eh, dunno. You'd be more focused on the PV rather than the actual song to give it an appropriate review.

Bashumaru 4th May 2008 07:54 AM

I would try it after you upload another song :P.

Huaka 4th May 2008 08:52 AM

Err, you're supposed to download and review the song regardless of whether you know/like the artist in question or not. Unless you've already heard the song before then by all means, you don't have too.

Bashumaru 4th May 2008 09:03 AM

Lol o_o Um I'll review the songs that you posted then XD. Since 1 + 1 = 2 doesn't work I'll just review Cyber girl XD.

Cyber Girl

Started out kinda pop then a violin/string instrument came out of nowhere. Then in the middle of the song the song changed then later on it went back to what it was like in the beginning. Overall the song was really good and the violin/string sound really good with the beat. I was kinda hoping for vocals but I guess not :(.

4/5

Lol my review sucked XD...so do I upload a song now?

Huaka 4th May 2008 09:43 AM

Yep! =D!

Bashumaru 4th May 2008 09:51 AM

Okay here is a really good song XD.

Aira Mitsuki - Colorful Tokyo Sounds NO. 9

Huaka 4th May 2008 10:07 AM

Aira Mitsuki - Colorful Tokyo Sounds NO. 9

I don't usually like electronically themed songs because I find them a bit monotonous but this song was a pleasant surprise. There was enough deviation in the beat and the vocals to keep my interest captured, and it has a sort of relaxing tempo to it, kind of good for my frazzled brain. The chorus was catchy enough. Although, it did tend to drag at times, and I wished at times to hear the singer's actual vocals, but I guess it comes with the music genre. All in all, a very nice track.

3.5/5

Here's my upload:

cosmos - Hashiri Tsudzukete

If you like BeForU this is one of the more obscure song files from an album done by a few of their singers as a side project.

Bashumaru 5th May 2008 01:25 AM

cosmos - Hashiri Tsudzukete

Started out very weird XD. Then the artistes voice are kinda weird too o_o, like ones high and one's voice is lower o_o. But nevertheless the song is not that bad XD. But the music in the backround sounds like its out of a RPG and the song sounds like an anime ending or opening.

3/5

Sorry for being so harsh XD.

Tokyo Jihen - Boutomin

Time for a hella weird song from me XD.

Huaka 5th May 2008 08:35 AM

Nah, it's alright. Since we were supposed to give honest reviews. Haha.

Tokyo Jihen - Boutomin
I've actually heard of Tokyo Jihen/Shiina Ringo before but I've never listened to music. The song has some very relaxed vibes, reminds me of lounge music actually. I like the guy's laidback singing, but I really dislike the female's vocals. It's too nasal and screechy-ish to me. The background music/instrumental is really what makes this track shine though. The track grows on me over time, so not too bad.

3/5

Sorry for the low quality (>.<!) of the song. It's good enough to hear though (I think).

Kajiura Yuki - A Song of Storm and Fire

This song is taken from the OST of the anime Tsubasa Chronicles.

apple-pi 6th May 2008 02:08 AM

OMG I LOVE THAT SONG. :heart
XD

I can't review it, 'cause I've already heard it~ but here's a higher quality version if anyone's interested ^______^

http://www.mediafire.com/?jd2ml5ddn3n

Huaka 6th May 2008 02:28 AM

Thanks so much! I was looking for a higher quality. Yay!

Bashumaru 10th May 2008 03:50 AM

Lol, I wanted to give someone else a chance but I guess not o_o, Anyways on with the review

Kajiura Yuki - A Song of Storm and Fire

When I first heard it it sound really epic XD, I liked the opera singing and stuff and the arrangement was nice. It wouldn't be something I listen too though but its not bad :P.

4/5

Chara - Rainbow Gossip

Akutenshi 10th May 2008 05:49 AM

Just wanna say, I absolutely LOVE the song by Aira Mitsuki! :) Anyway, on to my review:

Chara - Rainbow Gossip

It has a very ethnic feel at the beginning, it's really interesting, it makes me think of a rain forest. Then the beat comes in, and it sounds really... different. I don't know how to describe it, exactly. It sounds like some kind of tribal R&B, with synth. Also, the melody is very fun and nicely composed, and her voice is interesting when she hits higher notes. However, the end doesn't flow too well for me, the random horns just sound out of place.

Overall, 4/5. :)

Here's my song:
COLTEMONIKHA - Scene Killer

jknza2664 10th May 2008 06:04 AM

COLTEMONIKHA - Scene Killer

I had heard of this group previously, just never pursued them for some reason. This song is really relaxing but I think it could do without some of the heavy static-sounding electronica elements that conflict with the laid-back atmosphere it's going for. I love me some distortion and electronica but I think this song's pretty melody and vocals are kind of drowned out by certain elements of it. Still, a nice song.

4/5 (alot of 4/5's haha)

In the same vein, here's the next song:
Capsule - Starry Sky
http://www.mediafire.com/?mlczddzlbst

OH! And Akutenshi if you like that song by Aira Mitsuki you MUST must must try China Discotica by her. It's on youtube, it's amazing, and it's blazing its way up my iPod's Top 25.

Akutenshi 10th May 2008 06:14 AM

I'm listening to it as I type this, and it sounds VERY good. I'm definitely interested in her now.

capsule - Starry Sky

I've already been in love with this song, it reminds me so much of a club. I love the beat, and the guitar that goes along with it, and the synth line is really addictive and well-put together. I honestly have to give this song a 5/5.

Ami Suzuki - FREE FREE
The second most played song in my itunes, with 187 plays. :)

Huaka 10th May 2008 10:18 AM

Aww, I've already heard this song many times before >.<!!!

Bashumaru 10th May 2008 10:22 AM

Lol, I heard it a lot too :P

Huaka 15th May 2008 09:29 PM

I uploaded an alternate song since many people seemed to have heard the Suzuki Ami one before.

Boom Boom Satellites - Pill

apple-pi 15th May 2008 11:10 PM

Oo great! I wanted to try this out ^^ I probably suck as reviewer though XD

Boom Boom Satellites - Pill
The song is really fun, I like the beat and the arragement quite a bit (it's really different from the stuff I usually listen to though) ~ in the verses though, I find the guy's voice abit annoying... the chorus sounds a lot better, except for the end of the lines ("baby", "crazy") when they do that weird thing with their voice - I think it breaks the "flow" of the song there.

3.5/5

Ok, my turn!
Shiratori Maika - Circle
http://www.mediafire.com/?wc7blxg0ge9

elepop 16th May 2008 12:14 AM

Great idea Huaka, and also great way to discover other artist!

Tip: What about all uploading in zshare.net? You can listen to the song before downloading it. Perfect for those lazy ones. :P

-----

Shiratori Maika - Circle
WOW. What a beautiful song! I really enjoy her vocals (though sometimes a bit dead, lol). I definitely enjoy her music style. The instruments are simply brilliant. I loved the way the song ended also. The only thing lacking would be more emotion, but "Circle" is definitely great. I want to learn more about her now!

---

My turn: Tae Yeon - Manyage (The singer is only 19!)
http://www.zshare.net/audio/12081298f1179465/

Huaka 16th May 2008 05:29 AM

Thanks for the tip, I'll upload the songs there from now.

Tae Yeon - Manyage
Since my grandparents are obsessed with Korean dramas, and thus listen to their music as well, I've heard a wide variety of singers. This ballad song is very pretty, with some very nice vocals. But it's a bit generic, and I wish there was a bigger climax to the song at the end because it was basically the same thing throughout the other choruses. Still, the vocals of the singer are very impressive.
3.5/5

Emyli - Day By Day (This singer was also 19 as well when she made this)

kirei_ayumi 16th May 2008 05:42 AM

The song Emyli - day by day is pretty good. I love how it starts off and the beat is greatly mixed perfectly! It goes great with her voice!

MISIA - Escape
http://www.mediafire.com/?tfzf2n1c53g

apple-pi 16th May 2008 07:10 AM

MISIA - Escape
I really liked the song, the beat is really good and her deep voice works well with it ^^ The only things that bother me are the guy going ah-ah-bu-pu-de-pe in the beggining (XD), and the song starts sounding a bit long after 3min~
4/5

THYME - Drive
http://www.zshare.net/audio/120959322291173a/

Huaka 16th May 2008 10:54 AM

THYME - Drive
I've never heard anything from this artist before. When the guitar first came in I thought it would be a mid-tempo acoustic song, but the song picks up the pace later on into a more poppish beat. The singer's vocals threw me for a loop, it sounds very sharp and reminded me of Shiina Ringo's for a moment and it made me cringe, but then afterwards I got used to it and it wasn't so bad after that. I actually liked the piano that came in towards the ending, and that upped the grade I was originally going to give it. The song was actually pretty good for the most part but it's not something that would make me want to search out more from the artist.
4/5

Teshima Aoi - Ryuu

kirei_ayumi 17th May 2008 03:39 AM

Teshima Aoi - Ryuu
I love and enjoy this song! at the beginning, the keys of the piano are peaceful and remain that way throughout the song. Her voice is serene and pleasing. I invisioned this song as one of those you hear while traveling, and I must say, I love traveling music...
5/5

MISIA - Tsuki

austin. ♥ 17th May 2008 03:56 AM

Tsuki I really like the simple piano arrangement, and MISIA's vocals are very pleasant. I quite like the R&B beats that come in aswell. MISIA has an amazing range too, about 3 minutes in her vocals really shine. After listening to the whole track, I liked MISIA's vocals more than the music. It's a good track!

-I hope I did okay-

4/5

Hitomi Shimatani :: Sara Souju or Miyu Nagase :: Rose (or both :P)

Huaka 17th May 2008 05:26 AM

Nagase Miyu - Rose
This person is an anime seiyuu isn't she? Anywho, the song started off as a normal poppish track before it broke into an upbeat rock influenced one. Her vocals are a bit lower and have a bit more depth than your normal anime-type singers and it was a refreshing change. It was a nice pop-rock track that I liked.
4/5

Sambo Master - Sekai wa Sore wo Ai to Yabundaze

KaoriNeko 17th May 2008 06:07 AM

Sambo Master - Sekai wa Sore wo Ai to Yabundaze The beginning was really odd, what with the woman talking and the turning pages sound. But once the guitars started, I thought that maybe the song would be nice. When the guy's vocals kicked in, initially, I thought "This isn't my kind of song." But when the chorus began, I really started to like it. It's a weird song, but still nice. I like his talking during the bridge. :laugh The screamo ending was really awesome too! :yes

3/5

Ninomiya Kazunari - Niji.

apple-pi 17th May 2008 06:21 AM

Ninomiya Kazunari - Niji
Wa, what a beautiful song! The piano's really beautiful, and his voice matches the instrumental part perfectly. The rain sounds are a great touch too. The only thing I think I'd have liked to hear was a more "intricate"-sounding background music, since at times it sounds a bit "empty" ~ but simplicity is probably what they were aiming for ^^

moumoon - Cinderella

Bashumaru 17th May 2008 07:45 AM

moumoon - Cinderella

I like the piano in the beginning, and her voice has a clarity to it :). I like the music and the repeating piano. The chorus is kinda the shining part in the whole song. I also like the english and what shes saying. I like how the song ended too but for some weird reason, her voice reminds me of Avril Laveigne (without the rock :P) or Michelle Branch XD. I will definitely start following this artist XD.

5/5 :)

Chara - Atashi wa Koko Yo

Huaka 17th May 2008 12:42 PM

Chara - Atashi wa Koko yo
When the music first came on I thought I was in for a fun, funky song, but when she started singing I immediately cringed. She sounded like a girl who hadn't reached puberty and it seriously threw me off. Her vocals distracted me throughout the song and I couldn't get used to it, but what made this song shine was the background music. I absolutely loved the sort of bouncy feel it had. It reminded me of one of Ayu's remixes, that strange one I just can't remember the name of.
3/5

Uehara Takako - Changin' my heart

Raiu-Ayu 17th May 2008 09:26 PM

Uehara Takako - Changin' my heart
I'm not a fan of dance or trance music (apart from Ami :P) but this is really good! The beat is trance-like but there is also that hit of eurobeat that makes Japanese dance tracks partly unique. The vocals are highly enjoyable and the voice style flows extremely well with the music. The little dance interludes are nice to listen to and break up the song well. All in all a great song that is definitly worth a listen :P
4/5

TETRA-FANG - Destiny's Play

KaoriNeko 17th May 2008 09:51 PM

TETRA-FANG - Destiny's Play This song has a very interesting beginning, I believe it's a violin or some type of string instrument, right? Then it breaks into this really exciting guitar riff that makes you want to dance! All the while the strings are playing still in the background, it kind of gives the song an epic feel. The singer's voice sounds really great with the music too, it's really smooth. Only part that I don't really like about it is that he sounds kind of bored with the song, I wish he would've put more into it because it's such an amped up song. It's great though, I'm totally downloading it! :yes

4.5/5

嵐 - Love Situation.

Bashumaru 17th May 2008 10:15 PM

嵐 - Love Situation

I liked how it started soft and slow then it progressed into other instruments. I didn't really like the guys voice though o_o. I like the music more than the vocals overall. But then again its hard to be non biased because I don't really like boy bands....

3.5/5

BONNIE PINK - Catch The Sun

Huaka 18th May 2008 05:42 AM

Bonnie Pink - Catch the Sun
I've heard of this singer before and I actually don't like the songs I managed to hear of because I really disliked her voice. As soon as the song, bouncy guitar riffs kicked in and her singing enhanced the happy and pop atmosphere. It's a great song for the summer and I'm surprised to say that I rather like this one. Maybe it's because she doesn't try to attempt any vocal tricks so her voice wasn't as grating to me.
4/5

Tsuji Ayano - Nantonaku Nantonaku

apple-pi 18th May 2008 06:29 AM

Tsuji Ayano - Nantonaku Nantonaku
Is this a live performance of the song? Anyway, I don't think there's much to review... the song is way too simple for me, and her voice sounds weird~ the melody's kinda catchy though.

Rin' - Murasaki no Yukari, Futatabi

Bashumaru 18th May 2008 07:38 AM

Rin' - Murasaki no Yukari, Futatabi

Kinda started out kinda weird with the drums then when the keys came in I didn't know what to think o_o. Then there were another instrument I couldn't recognize XD, at first though I though it was someone singing. I was then very surprised when the whole tune climaxed (lack to better term XD). Then the flutes where really nice. I also liked how it ended. One thing that I wish it had though was vocals, I was expecting vocals to come any minute.

4/5

Rie Fu - Waratte, Megumi no Moto he

Huaka 18th May 2008 02:13 PM

Rie Fu - 笑って、恵みの元へ
This is a very relaxed song highlighted by smooth vocals and a mid-tempo background melody. It's a nice song, but that's about it. Her voice sounds a bit detached from her music, so it kind of makes me lose interest in the song, but compared to the other tracks I've heard from her, at least it's a bit more ear-catching then the others.
3/5

E Nomine - Mitternacht

Akutenshi 18th May 2008 11:52 PM

E Nomine - Mitternacht
I'm not going to lie, I honestly did NOT like this song at all. The background music was really... boring, minus the string parts, and quite frankly, the guy's almost growly voice scared me. However, I did like when the choir sang during the chorus, if that's what it was. But it wasn't nearly enough to save the song for me, because they just kept repeating the same melody.
1/5 (that's a bit generous)

Maika Shiratori - Star

KaoriNeko 19th May 2008 12:15 AM

Maika Shiratori - Star I really like how the song starts off with her singing. Maika's voice is really soft yet emotional and the arrangement is beautiful. But the song itself is boring. The chorus is the prettiest part, but other than that, it's pretty boring.

2.5/5

大野智 - Song for me.

Akutenshi 19th May 2008 12:57 AM

^ ^ Aw, you didn't like it that much? It's such a beautiful song. :( Ah well, I respect your opinion. :)

大野智 - Song for me
I really liked the instruments used in this song, however, I did not like the singer. He has a nice voice sometimes, but a lot of the time, it sounds like he's shouting. The music itself is very good and well-composed, I just wish it were sung by someone else.
3.5/5

the brilliant green - I'm in Heaven

apple-pi 19th May 2008 01:24 AM

@ Akutenshi: yay, another Maika fan! =D I posted Circle a while ago in this thread. Love her<3

the brilliant green - I'm in Heaven
I'm familiar with the brilliant green, but I had never heard this song before. I like Tomoko's voice and the arrangement of the song, but one thing that I feel with many buriguri songs is... well, they're not particularly catchy, and it always sounds like the chorus and Tomoko are drowning in the arrangement, it's hard to tell when the chorus starts and ends, and I don't really remember what the song sounds like when it's over... their songs kinda sound all the same to me actually. It's a nice song, but forgettable.

Nakamura Ataru - Kaze ni Naru

Huaka 19th May 2008 01:55 AM

@ Akutenshi: Uh, the song is trance-like in nature it's supposed to be repetitive that's what the genre is known for. Plus, it's also supposed to be scary. The opera singing is not really opera singing but rather Gregorian chanting.

Nakamaru Ataru - Kaze ni Naru
Wow, this song is very pretty. I love the traditional instruments and her voice. It has slight hints at enka but isn't. While pretty, the song is a bit too long and I think the background music should have been a bit louder, or her vocals could have been softer because after a while it's sort of overpowering the other.
4/5

Misora Hibari - Kawa no Nagare no You ni
(This is from my favorite enka singer ever! Anyone who is everyone who's Japanese should know this song. It also was voted the best Japanese song ever in a poll by NHK.)

-NOT REVIEWING-

I figured it was supposed to be, but still, not my thing at all. And there are ways to make trance songs not repetitively boring, I like a lot of trance songs.

Bashumaru 19th May 2008 02:05 AM

Misora Hibari - Kawa no Nagare no You ni

When it first started, I got the old school vibe right away, her voice isn't that bad but for some weird reason there were parts where she sounded like a cat XD. The music is good and when the drums came and the choir/backing vocals came its just enhanced the song even more. Overall its not bad but it doesn't really capture my interest.

Eri Nobuchika - Lights -album Mix-

apple-pi 19th May 2008 02:37 AM

I downloaded that album but later deleted it, and even though I listened to that song I don't remember how it sounded at all. Can I review it? XD

Sure, I guess so. Since you don't remember. Haha.

apple-pi 19th May 2008 04:13 AM

Eri Nobuchika - Lights -album Mix-
I like the song. The simple arrangement in the beggining is pretty, and then when the song just explodes it gets really cool. I also really liked her singing technique, but not so much her voice (husky isn't really my thing). It kinda feels like there's something lacking in the arrangement though. Not sure what, but if there was just one more special element in the song, it would've been amazing. Still, really good song.

Misachi Kyushima - Bara to Kurumi

Huaka 19th May 2008 11:35 PM

Kyushima Misachi - Bara to Kurumi
As soon as I heard the opening bars for this song I knew I was in for something dramatic. I liked the traditional instruments, and her vocals were very full and not like the normal thin, squeaky ones you find in Japanese music. Her singing also had a touch of enka but not quite. The ballad was a great showcase for her voice and I liked how it transitioned into more of a rock-influenced track and then back to its "earthen" instruments at the end. I really liked this song, and would love to find out more tracks from this artist.
5/5

Porno Graffitti - Neo Melodramatic

Note: Btw, I forgot to say this but if someone uploads to a remix a song you've heard of before that's okay to review as well, if you've never heard of that remix.

Bashumaru 23rd May 2008 01:02 AM

Porno Graffitti - Neo Melodramatic

The song started out with the guitar and then a guys voice was very different I guess o_o, I personally like the verses better than the chorus because in the chorus he makes his voice go up and down which sounds weird. But the song is very catchy because even when I was done listening to it, it was stuck in my head.

Kokia - 穏やかな静けさ
Oh my, the beginning was a bit scary! I kinda like Kokia's voice, but it's not great. I love her high notes but she sounds just a bit dull. The song itself sounded good in some parts, but also boring in others. I like the parts where she sings. Great melody. But when there's only instrumental and "ahh~ahh~ahh~"... Gosh, it's so creepy! So yeah, the song isn't bad but it's not totally my type and I will definitely not listen to this at night. LOL.

Morning Musume - Koe
Well, I haven't really listened to many of this group's songs because I don't care for them. Their voices grate on my ears a lot, but they sound better when they sing together on the chorus. Oh, but I like how the instruments get a lot more louder and enthusiastic near the halfway point and to the ending. The slow tempo of the song makes it drag and there isn't much I can say about it. I like their upbeat songs a lot more.

Started out very weird, then there was the shouting and the rappers XD. The chorus was the best, I also liked it where there wasn't rappers and just the girl XD. I'm at a lost for words on how to describe the song though XD, but overall its a really weird song :P but its not bad XD.

Wyolica - 悲しいわがまま

Well, the laidback tempo and sound of the song is nice, but her vocals are a hit and a miss for me. Her singing sounded nice in the verses, but in the chorus they sounded more nasal/strained for some reason to me. So, that took me back for a bit. It's a nice song to relax and read to. Not bad.

3/5

Harenchi Punch - Jewel

@ Bashumaru: I heard that the fifth game won't be the normal go to trial cases though, it's more rather you go to the crime scenes and investigate and search for clues. =O. Still want to play it though, cuz it's Edgeworth!

GRACE 9th June 2008 11:24 PM

Jewel - HARENCHI☆PUNCH
HARENCHI☆PUNCH is a lot of love, I've heard THEM before, but not this song, so I think I can review it right? Alright sure. I feel like the rapper has too much of a part in this one, and it's not cute like her rap in Kitaichi SHINNING =/ And there's an extreme lack of the one with the cute high pitched voice. The singer has a really good voice, but the high pitched one has a better one. The rapping gets REALLY old after a while =/

Junjou Romantica. Okay so I download it, and I'm listening to the soothing vocals of mink and suddenly Realplayer pops up and a man starts shouting lyrics to headache inducing BGM, not a good start. :P After the bad start the man stops singing and a really cool guitar solo comes in, getting better. The man stops shouting and sounds pretty good, but a bit weird. :B After a really nice verse that horrible chorus comes in again, oh dear. Now the chorus is over the second verse begins and two men are singing - they sound good together. Bloody hell, it's that chorus again. x___x Another really cool guitar solo comes in, then a brigde, then the chorus. TWICE. :weep

Rating 2.5/5

+ The guitar solos were great.
+ The verses were catchy I guess.
- The chorus is totally headdesk worthy.
- The chorus comes around a lot.
- The lead singer isn't a great singer.

Not my kinda song, sorry.

久嶋美さち - 月蝕
(Kyushima Misachi - Gesshoku)

Intro to the song is very nice. It has this suspense feeling to it, with the lead singer (great vocals too) adding to the suspense. It slowly builds up until the chorus. Sadly, I was expecting a little more from the chorus and I think it could of been much better than the shouting a couple words and then already over. It repeats again the same thing pretty much from the suspense-ish part to the same chorus. The bridge is interesting. Then it goes back to soft, where you hear a guitar playing this one phrase repeatedly. Then orchestra joins it. Then finally the singer joins in again, and back to the chorus. Except this time the chorus is different, and much better than the bland chorus before. Song ends by the typical fade out.

My rating: 4/5 or a B
What makes me give it a high rating?
+ Great Vocals
+ Lovely Intro
+ Great building the sound and phrasing
+ Very Unique bridge
What made me take a point off?
- Boring, not very original chorus
- Shouting in the chorus
- Ending could've been better...sort of random ending

And my song...
Lena Park - Smile

octocoffee 14th June 2008 06:19 AM

Lena Park - Smile
The piano intro is very soft and pretty, I liked it very much. The vocals in the beginning are also very sweet and lighthearted. Drums are subtly added, so quietly I barely noticed. The start of this song is so relaxing; I was expecting a quiet and easygoing song. But it looks like I was lulled into a false sense of security! The song switches gears and moves into a slightly faster pace with strumming guitar and strings and tension builds up nicely, and I’m sure this is a crescendo at this point. And I’m right, as she hits a high point. Finally, she belts out “SMILE, JUST SMILE!” Her vocals following sound breathy and almost “stretched out” but it fits the lyrics well. The song reaches an impressive climax with volume-increasing repetitions of “SMILE, JUST SMILE!” with a little overlap of other lyrics. The instruments climb higher and higher in dramatic quality along with her voice until it plunges downward to only a slow piano and her quiet voice, ending the song just as it began.

Overall, Smile was a really nice song. Vocals were good, although definitely not the best I’ve heard. There’s something about her voice that threw me off a bit. The composition and arrangement of the song, however, were extremely impressive. I loved the intensity of the song ^_^

Shunichi Miyamoto - Byakuya ~ True Light ~

WOW,the opening is really creepy!I like the sounds of thunders.
When Miyamoto starts singing the atmosphere seems really calm, but then
it gets into more noiser part.I was actually surprised how I liked the song's flow.
But,I thought it was kinda weird because it lacks...chorus?
However, the whole song sounds creepy but good indeed.
I wasn't bored at all while listening to it.

next song: ayaka - Mikazuki

CHE.R.RY 20th June 2008 06:31 PM

ayaka - Mikazuki

I'm not a big fan of ayaka normally, BUUT...the beginning was very beautiful. I loved the combination of stringed instruments + piano. The second ayaka started singing I got a sort of sorrowful vibe. The song continued on with ayaka singing very smooth vocals and medium projection for about a minute or so. The song then really picked up tempo and ayaka really showed off her range by hitting some high notes, which sounded quite beautiful. A few more choruses later, the song ends on a small piano solo. So despite the fact that I am not a fan of ayaka, this song was surprisingly pleasant.

Score: 4.5/5 - there was a couple dull parts for me

My song: Alan - Heart, war

Chiharo 20th June 2008 07:56 PM

Alan - Heart, War

When the song was opening,I really could feel sorrow and beauty at the same time.I was surprised when I heard that the language was Chinese.
I never listened to Chinese artists before,so it sounded so weird, but whatever, the song was really nice and,how do I say it?Mysterious.
I was really surprised by alan's beautiful voice.I never thought that this artist can sing so well.
Even if I couldn't understand it,I really did felt that it was about Heart and war.
My favourite part is at the end of the song, when everything slows down and you can hear nice strings and alan singing in such a mysterious tone!

I really love the title of the song, and the song represents it very well.

My rate: 4,8/5 - I'm surely going to listen to this song again!

My song - Chihiro Onitsuka - Sodatsu Zassou

Chihiro Onitsuka - Sodatsu Zassou
I've listened to most of Chihiro's stuff before, but for some reason, I never really paid attention to this song. I'm glad I did though, I LOVE the vibe this song has. It's so rocky, and different for her, and I love it. The verses do a nice build-up, all leading up to the catchy, amazing chorus. It's just really empowered, and I personally love it.

No one? Have you all heard this song or are we suffering from the same condition: laziness. Haha. Anyway, if you guys have all heard this song I'll gladly upload a new one in place of it.

octocoffee 25th July 2008 02:07 AM

^ Ha, I fall into the category of forgetfulness. I remember checking the thread, seeing the song, but then completely forgetting about it...

Nana Katase - TELEPATHY
I like the intro, a fine blend of piano and synth. It really sets the song up. Nana's vocals are introduced rather quickly, and are fine. It's obviously a dance-ish track so vocals don't matter too much. The verses are quite subdued in volume, but it my attention is grabbed when she kicks into a higher vocal register and sings "I'm feeling you (?)" Interestingly enough, I can't seem to find a chorus. Still fun nonetheless. And the 'la la la''s are quite addictive. TELEPATHY is a great dance track that focuses on the background music more than the vocals, and that's absolutely fine with me. Definite replay value here.

Huaka 26th July 2008 06:53 AM

Shimatani Hitomi - Ame Oto

I'm actually a fan of her but I haven't listened to any of her recent stuff, so this is a completely new song to me.

From the beginning notes I knew immediately that this was going to be a laidback mid-tempo/jazz influenced-ish song. Her vocals as always are beautiful. It's a very relaxing song but I wished it had a more stronger chorus to make a bigger impact because it sounds just like the verses and the rest of the song. Because throughout the song she sings with a relatively similiar rhythm, so that would have helped made the song stand out more. I like how the background music increased to a crescendo at the end though.

YeLLOW Generation - LOST Generation

Hey, look!! A band I never tried out before!!!! Overall, this song was really really good. I enjoyed the verses and their voices sounded amazing with that paino. Sadly, this song was NOT perfect because I didn't like how they picked up the pace so suddenly in the chorus and the notes they hit didn't fit a times. But I love the singer(s) voice!!! Beautiful. I think I'll try more of their music later on.

Okay..... here's a song that needs reviewing:

Akutenshi 6th October 2008 02:49 AM

嵐 - Flashback

I really like the intro instrumental, it's upbeat and catchy, and kind of laidback. The verses are boring, they sound kind of typical, but the chorus is cool and fun. They hit the notes nicely too. The rap and instrumental bridge were unexpected, but in a good way, I thought they added personality to the song, and they flowed very well. The end was really good, I loved that part a lot. Overall, a very good song.

Aira Mitsuka - GALAXY BOY

Aira Mitsuka - GALAXY BOY
I really like the beginning of this song. It's upbeat and very trance-like. It sounds like a song from PERFUME or Suzuki Ami. The song itself is very fresh and fun. The bridge can get annoying after hearing many times because of the very high sounds but besides that the song is very cool.

SuG - LOVE SCREAM PARTY

Wow, talk about a great combination of synth and rock! Surprisingly, I usually listen to female singers so I had no clues they were guys until the singing started. Now the guys are so energetic which is definitly something nice to hear other than the the dark bands...y'know like Dir en Grey. The only down side I had with the song is that it's amazingly short which is sad..:( Anyway, I'm surprised I actually like it

Kiyommy and Seiya - Pink Rose

I used to play DDR way back when in high school, so I've probably heard of this song before but not the full length track. I like the happy, upbeat music as it really fits the mood of the music, but it does sound a bit dated at time. The vocals leave something to be desired but it's catchy enough to be overlooked.

A sweet song. Not bad.

SBK - Bash feat. Katase Nana
The beginning was pretty cool, no lie. I was hooked in by the electro-sounds. When it jumps in with the vocals, I was kind of surprised by the cutesiness, since I've only heard Nana Katase's dance tracks. It's catchy, and reminds me of Leah Dizon's Vanilla, but way better. While cute and pleasant, I just can't find myself listening to it too often. I really can't say why. The chorus is adorable though.

Niji - Kanon

What a relaxing song! At first I was kinda underwhelmed by the chorus but by the time I was half way through the song I found my self humming along to it. Her vocals were a nice touch, I love her high notes. My favorite thing about the song is the background vocals, they almost sound angelic like? Overall this is a very nice mellow song. I can see it being the theme to some sort of anime or game.

Tanpopo - Baby Cry

Tanpopo - Baby Cry

I knew this song was going to be fun as soon as it started! It has a very pop/rock feel that I love. The chorus is really addicting and I've got "Baby cryyyyy" stuck in my head already. The guitar solo part was seriously cool, I almost wanted to scream "Yeah!" right along with them. Very enjoyable song. :D

Son Dam Bi - Bad Boy
such a cool song. I love the dancyness of it. I love how the song starts off. It already has an upbeat vibe. It has too many symbol kicks in the background but other than that I thought it was really nice. Their voices are soft too. Nothing too loud or sharp to listen to. I think they did a great job on the vocoding too. Very subtle but obvious enough to compliment the song. I don't like the bridge, but it gets really cool again with the heartbeats and goes right back into the chorus. I'd like to hear more instrumental though.

Only asian music? I want to submit something more western-y:

Blue Foundation - This is goodbye

wildconnetta 27th July 2010 09:54 AM

Blue Foundation - This Is Goodbye

It starts off with a boring, monotonous synth. It develops slightly with a bit of strings before all the music quietens down. There is a voice like in a megaphone, and it then has just an acoustic guitar. Then the whole orhcestra thingy comes back, but then it quietens. Then this woman starts singing who has a dreadful accent. The chorus is good, with it's soaring guitar and nice voice. Her voice has a tendency to be flat, lifeless and boring. Wow, 4 minutes through and I am STILL bored. The final chorus includes the orchestra, then it goes back to the woman with the bad voice with the acoustic guitar. Cue more orchestras. Then the woman sings, and it goes back to just guitar. Then it closes with the woman singing 'This is goodbye'

VERDICT: Boring, lifeless, long, unneccesarry.

SO BASICALLY:
2/5

I am in love with this next song:

Kwak Hyun Hwa - Psycho

Kanzaki 27th July 2010 10:28 AM

Couldn't download song here either. Starting to think my pc doesn't like mediafire :P

I really don't like korean music all that much, but this one had a nice beat and fairly good vocals. About 1:52 minutes into the song I got kind of annoyed, but that was all. I liked it. I want someone to make a remix of it, that could be pretty sick :yes Not a song that's memorable though.

I was there! :)

Asian song I'm currently loving:

OLIVIA - Spiderspins

Far Away 30th July 2010 03:25 AM

Spiderspins is one of OLIVIA's best rock songs, in my opinion. There's a certain catchy quality to it, with OLIVIA singing a bunch of "Da da da dum"s in the beginning before going into English where she proclaims "Spiderspins so beautiful!" That part always gets stuck in my head. I really like this song a lot, it's addicting in the way that so many of OLIVIA's songs are.

Really nice song. I love songs that when you have headphones do stuff like have the beat playing in one ear or the guitar fading in and out each side, so that was a positive right off the bat. lol Her vocals are light but strong and I love the guitar. It's light and airy but with the right amount of rock to reel you in. Think I'll keep this one. hehe

Kalafina - red moon

rating: 5/5

There's one thing I have to say, I LOVE these kind of songs. I've never heard of kalafina before, and I'm so glad you posted this song because I'm off to download the album right now and watch more PVs of them. Anyway, on to the song, I really ADORE the amazing opening of it, it really sounds mysterious, and the rest of the song doesn't fail to impress me. Other thing I noticed was great were amazing singers that made the song so much better with their deep voices. The music flows nicely and the composition is great. I'm definitely keeping this song and downloading the whole album.

Here's my choice: Namie Amuro - PRIVATE (I love that song so much I think I need to make a shrine to it)
