Don't u guys think this is one main reason for her being well-known?

I mean there are some people out there who don't really into her music or not at all LOL
But when u ask them...u know ayumi? they'll say she's pretty / beautiful
But they dunno more abt that LOL

I dunno why last time my frens in Indo LOVE BoA very much
they even said BoA is prettier than ayu LOL
Back then when Inuyasha was popular and BoA sang Every Heart

But really...Dun u think ayu's just that pretty? or what?

Well, isnt that a good thing?? There are still so many such positive comments from people who do not listen to her songs.
We cant possibly expect everyone to listen to her songs.
And as for why some other say BoA is more pretty than Ayu, well, I can only say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. :D

No. At least that's not the reason I like her. She could be freaking horrible, but if she had the same music, I'd love her the same.

I don't think Ayu is famous just for her beauty, but I'm sure it doesn't hurt her status. Her lyrics are amazing, and if people are only into Ayu because of her looks...well...I'd say they need to do some research on her. :P

yup thats definately one of the reason why people like her...but her strong lyrics,music and attitude towards work are some of the other reasons why she has such a strong fan base in the world too

No I really don't think so. Sure she is really pretty, but she is known for many other things above that, mainly her lyrics and all the different records she has set in Japan.

I think many people during her early days as an avex artist thought of her as cute. But I definately agree that her lyrics probably touched people the most.

i think ayu is famous for her daring image during her golden era. ayu's the one who dare to speak up despite being in the singing industry. She basically sings her life out rather than to just perform...

Being beautiful certainly has a small part of it, but I don't think it's ONLY because of that.

Ayu isn't just a singer, she's also a model and a perfomer. So I think it comes with the job. It's not because I don't think Koda Kumi is pretty, that others will think the same. I believe it's just a matter or preferences. (No offense to Koda Kumi fans, it was just an example. I do think she looks pretty~)

It helped her, but not the main reason. Also, I'd say it was more here "cute acting" that helped her, as opposed to actual beauty. I do think though, she looks better in 2008 than she ever did. She ages really well + is good at applying the correct make up :P

I had no idea what she looked like when I first started listening to her though, so for me it wasn't her looks that got my attention.

when I first got into Ayu it was her music. A friend let me borrow hers A best album. I fell in love with A Song for XX and the rest. Then I discoverd woooa shes really pretty :) that was a plus. I love her lyrics!

She was discovered de to her looks, not her writings. I think looks and commercail music style is waht made her big, her lyrics made her a legend. She'd stll be at least a med. successful idol without them.

i think it's mainly because the lyrics and emotion she put on her songs. and her beauty did help her to reach her status as fashion leader. and those combination makes our ayu now.

Does her appearance help her become famous? absolutely. But if she had just gotten famous based on her looks, she would have been just like any other idol, who come and go in 3-4 years. I think while her looks definitely helped her, it was her lyrics that drew people in.

Ayumi Hamasaki is pretty, and her looks are one of the reasons she is where she is today. However, she's not the only pretty face in the industry - Hitomi Shimatani is just as beautiful, and her sales don't even remotely compare to Ayumi's. Ayumi has looks, talent, and very importantly, luck - all of which has increased her popularity. Appearances aren't everything - Utada Hikaru is no fashion leader, after all - but Ayumi still ought to thank her parents for their genes.

she was recognized at first for her terrific music but cant deny that eventually her beauty and fashion contributed to her success.

she's is definitely known for her beauty by those new to the Asian scene. Although how she got so big and famous was not due to looks. We all know she wasn't exactly as perfect as she is today *cough* teeth XD. Her lyrics are watched touched the people through their dark times, which gained her respect throughout Asia. It's only now that she is famous for her beauty because all her old fans have grown and remain very few, her legacy lives on XP but I doubt many people know truly know what the hype was about back then...

luckily I'm a lyrics looking person and luckily I have an old man bro who taught me everything i know about Asian things. So i don't overlook anything and judge them by just looks as many do with Ayu. Though I must admit I was first attracted to ayu cause she looked so かわいい singing boys and girls and evolution. actually maybe more かっこい

Many of my classmates/schoolmates (a.k.a the people who aren't into j-music), when asked about Ayu, tell me "Ah, I know, that pretty Japanese singer with beautiful large eyes". Then I ask "Did you hear any of her songs?" and they usually reply "No, but I think she's REALLY pretty!".

truly, she's more famous for her image & looks than music - sometimes I do get that feeling when I bump into ppl who aren't into her, but adore her beauty the most and consider it the best and only (!) good thing about her

It sure does help to be pretty in music industry, that's a fact. I don't really think there are any singers out there that are popular just for their looks, but I do think many sigers wouldn't be as popular as they are without their looks. So I think in Ayumi's case her appearance attracts ppl, but who would buy her cd's just for the pretty cover? Nobody, when they could just download pics etc. So even if ppl like her looks, it seems they like her music too cuz she's selling like... well a lot. :D

I used to be attracted to her beauty during her 2001 ~ 2003 period. Her in evolution, Dearest, Free & Easy, Voyage, RAINBOW, HANABI ~espisode II~

But recent years, 2005 onwards she somehow looked different? Maybe she did something and removed her baby-fat from her face, and looking at her face now, i found it rather weird >_<

I owned a 2002 ARENA tour concert and when i compared it with her BEST countdown 2006-2007 (both have the same concepts and outfit)... she REALLY looked different!! It's like her youth is being drained out of that face of hers... >_< *sad*

Yup it happens as you get older unfortunately. Like your cheeks begin to lose its fullness and I guess that's why older people get botox and collagen injection in their cheeks and such. (Like it's more obvious in some than others, depending on your facial shape)

She got old. Did you seriously think it wouldn't happen? Ayumi works hard at her job; throw in some stress and a deaf ear, and you get aging that happens twice as fast.

When i first listend to her Music, I hadn't any Idea, what she looks like. But... because I really liked her Music, I wanted to listen more from her.
Sure.. she is a pretty women. But.. in her beginnings.. I didn't thought, she was that pretty. She looked ok.. but she was not as pretty as now.
