Rain was born in Seoul. He became interested in R&B and Hiphop dancing in the 6th grade. As an adolescent, he was a member of a boy band called Fanclub. The group was short-lived, and soon disbanded. Rain then began auditioning for various talent agencies. Finally, Rain entered an audition for Korean talent agency JYP Entertainment. Park Jin Young, the CEO of the agency, took a personal interest in Rain and accepted him as a trainee. During the early years of training, Rain was a backup dancer.

In 2002 he debuted with the album Bad Guy where he was introduced to the media through his stage name, Rain. The album's title single Bad Guy was a hit. After his first album, he took time off from his career as a singer to star in the drama series, Sang Doo! Let's Go To School. Following the success of his debut as singer and actor, Rain released his second album How to Avoid The Sun, and had another hit with the title song "Ways to Avoid the Sun."

His third album It's Raining sold over 1 million copies in Asia. According to a report by Rain's previous agency JYP Ent. to the Korea Culture & Content Agency, It's Raining topped the charts in all of the following countries as of December 29th, 2005: Japan (100,000 copies), China (500,000 copies), Taiwan (70,000 copies), Thailand (150,000 copies), Indonesia (50,000 copies), and South Korea (154,000 copies), for a combined total of 1,074,000 units sold, making it Rain's most successful album to date both domestically and internationally.

In April 2006, he was mentioned in the Time magazine website article that named the "100 Most Influential People Who Shape Our World." In 2007,Rain topped Time Magazine's online user poll, although he was not in the magazine's actual list. He has an ongoing joke feud with Stephen Colbert for the top spot.He also made it into People's 2007 list of the "Most Beautiful People" in the world.

Despite people dissin' his music, he's not that bad like people say. I actually got into Rain when I heard his song Sad Tango (:heart) on my friend's mp3 player. I immediately fell in luv with him. Rain is a great dancer and performer, but his songs aren't really a big hit with me. Some of them are really hot, like Touch Ya from Rain's World, but his voice annoys me sometimes.

SE7EN's voice is strong, his dancing is amazing and he's cute. He may not have a body like Rain but he still has a body. And his US debut totally don't bomb...TWICE. :innocent

I do love Rain though, contrary to what I just said. :laugh

Rain is being pushed by both P. Diddy and JoJo. I saw him live at Madison Square Garden two years ago, and both of them made appearances on stage to give their support. Apparently Rain is also the first asian model for P. Diddy's clothing line.

OK after listening to Rain's stuff some more this morning, I remembered why I'm not exactly impressed by his music much of the time. A lot of his stuff sounds like a huge, blatant rip-off of American music. Here's some of the ones I've noticed:

Rain Will Return To Korea On July, Drama Will Push Back

Rain's management, J.Tune said because of schedule conflict, Rain's korean drama starring with Jun Ji-hyun will be push back.

Rain is considering to act in a new drama, which is about an orphan who became French mercenary soldier in love with a news reporter lady in the arm force. Rain and Jun Ji-hyun are chosen to be the candidates. The author of this story is the one from "Sang Doo, let's go to school" and "A Love to Kill" so Rain trusted her.

According to J.Tune, Rain will finish Ninja Assassin shooting and will be back to Korea in the beginning of July, then he will start preparing for his new album. There's a time conflict between Ninja Assassin's promotion period and the drama shooting, therefore the drama will be reconsidered. Jun Ji-hyun side also has schedule conflict as well. More planning about this drama will be discussed later this year

By now you must have heard, is those particular lyrics sexual or not? J.Tunes said that
“The lyrics in Rainism are describing the dance movements performed by Rain. We considered using magic stick, body shake to describe the long cane stick dance that Rain had incorporated for the Rainism performance. We never thought that this would become a dispute over whether it was inferring to explicit sexual acts. We never wanted to present that but just the dance only.”

So what do you think?

Lol, nice cop-out, at least it sounds creative, but we all know what Rain REALLY means. Seriously. It'd be ridiculous to actually believe that it does not have any sexual connotations.

Anyways, I LOVE Rain. There is absolutely nothing he can't do. And his album Rainism was a masterpiece. Seriously.

And people need to leave Rain the hell alone! Now he's having to change his name in the US because of some damn band.

Yea, Rainism is a hot ass album. I'm buying it as soon as Epik High's new album is announced. I have been listening to the album lately tho. My Way, Rainism, and Love Story are just :heart :heart :heart Sooooooo much better than Se7en aka sluut of bad music. :bored

I just got Rainism and Eternal Rain albums last week from YA.
I thought Rainism was gonna be in a jewel casing, but it's not, more like a long book, but its cool

^I figured that it was more of a long book. I know that he had a limited edition where it contained a photobook of him. I wanted to get it so bad but I didn't have the money at the time. :cry It was damn expensive too. I want to get the Asian edition of it but that's damn expensive. I'm just gonna get the regular edition since YA is really a special discount off of Korean releases. :)

btw, I only have Eternal Rain CD+DVD which is :heart Love the fact I have a jewel case with it. juju

Yeah, I saw the album at my local Korean music store, and I was wondering if it was worth it... it's quite expensive there. Like $30.

^OMG! You can get two Rain albums for that price on YA. Go to YA ok. They are like running a special discount on Korean stuff. Now that Epik High has finally announced that they are releasing an album in March, I'm finna buy their album plus Pieces pt. 1, Rainism, and the Wonder Girls' The Wonder Begins album. :heart :heart :heart
