I'm looking to expand my K-Pop, and need a bit of help! So far, I have albums by~

Ivy
Lexy
Lee Hyori
BoA
Rain
Se7en

Any other good people? Peferably female, and R&B, but if they're pop, then I don't mind. No males though. :D

ayuayu798 17th May 2008 03:11 PM

You should try WOnder girls they're pretty good, btw where did you find music for Ivy, I've been looking everywhere for some music by her...

KarenPang 17th May 2008 03:12 PM

I don't know much about K-Pop & sadly I only heard of a few acts .

I heard K is supposed to be good & also Shinhwa which's Korean's most famous boyband I guess since they have been together for a decade long

you maybe want to try John Hoon also ?

KaoriNeko 17th May 2008 04:22 PM

fanmail 17th May 2008 06:15 PM

oh, well that's okay. as long as they aren't lame and cheesy :P

evolusean 17th May 2008 06:43 PM

Why no males? Korean music right now has a lot more great male artists than female. Still, here are three of the most popular female acts in Korea right now, along with some recommended tracks by each.

소녀시대 Sonyô Shidae (Girl's Generation) is pretty well-known now, too. Think Morning Musume, but with serious, Korean talent. They're basically the female answer to Super Junior. Their sound is very girly, cutesy, bubblegum dance-pop.

Recommended: 소녀시대 (Girls' Generation); Kissing you; Merry-go-round; Honey (소원); 다시 만난 세계 (Into the new world)

Wonder Girls are very, very popular right now. 5 cheeky girls, much edgier than Sonyô Shidae. They're produced by JYP who basically made Rain who he is. Their style is very R&B and urban dance, sometimes a little bit 80's synth-poppy.

Recommended: 이바보; Tell Me; Good Bye; Bad Boy; Irony

天上智喜 The Grace Ch'ôn Sang Ji Hûi The Grace (TSZX The Grace) is fantastic. It's made up of four girls with powerhouse voices who each did their own thing before being put together. Their vocals blow everyone else out of the water. Their sound is generally R&B- or soul-influenced pop, reminiscent of BoA's Korean work.

Recommended: 한번 더, OK? ― One More Time, OK?; 女友 (그녀들의 수다) ― Girl Talk; RENEW (사랑할 땐, 좋아할 땐); 4월의 첫날 ― April Fools' Day; 열정 My Everything; Catch the shooting star; The Club (Feat. 비); Boomerang; Dancer In The Rain; 아니기를 ― Not To Be

fanmail 17th May 2008 06:46 PM

^ I'm not really into males that much. Male voices in general put me off. I don't know why, I'm just not really into how they sound =/

But thanks for The Grace, I heard about them when they made their Japanese stuff, but never checked out their Korean stuff :P

milky_way 17th May 2008 09:16 PM

Have you listened to Gummy yet?

fanmail 17th May 2008 09:17 PM

^ Nope. Is she good? :)

milky_way 17th May 2008 09:25 PM

^ Yes. I downloaded her new album on a whim, and I'm really enjoying it.

KaoriNeko 17th May 2008 09:28 PM

I always hear about Gummy, what kind of music does she sing.

I hear good things about Big Mama or whatever too.

milky_way 17th May 2008 09:30 PM

Well, she's under YG, so I'd say her music is R&B-ish.

fanmail 17th May 2008 09:31 PM

I found 3 albums by Gummy. milky, do you know how many albums she has? Is that right, 3? Just so I know I'm getting the right ones ;)

milky_way 17th May 2008 09:35 PM

She has 4 albums and an Unplugged album.

Albums:

For the Bloom
It's Different
Like Them
Comfort - newest one

PSYCHEDELICOdust 17th May 2008 09:44 PM

Lee Jung Hyun is pure amazingness and is what all K-Pop should strive to be. I can't recommend her enough.

I also really like Son Dam Bi and Baek Ji Young, so check them out (they're all girls by the way, I hate guy singers too).

Calico 17th May 2008 11:56 PM

^Yes, finally somebody recommended her in this thread! You should really try her out. Her older stuff is the bomb.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=ciuIDV2XeQs

I also love Uhm Jung Hwa. her stuff is harder to find but she's often called the Madonna of Korea.

Wonder Girls was definitely a good choice!

Girls' Generation is my favorite K-Pop band. Don't worry. They have some cute songs, but they mostly sing pop and ballads. And even if some are younger than some MM members, they have incredible vocals. I uploaded their whole discography here:
http://www.ahsforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=68435

And under my sig!

If you want really good hip-hop: Epik High (though it's male)
If you want really good rock/pop: Nell (though it's male too) I also uploaded one of their albums in AHS.

I really like the band Rumble Fish too. It's pop/rock.

Other female pop/r&b band:
- The Grace
- KARA
- Baby V.O.X
- Jewelery

And great pop singers/vocalist:
- Younha (nobody mentioned her? one of the best in k-pop IMO)
- JOO

MOAR UHM JUNG HWA LOVE. >O

Although I have to admit I just recently found some more of her albums and they were kinda... bwah. Her ballads can be so bland, but her upeat stuff is amazing. Prestige is probably the best album to start off with, esp. if you like disco influenced music. XD

Luv ~Venus~ 20th May 2008 07:15 AM

I hate u fanny for not wanting to hear K-pop males. :laugh

Erm....you can try out Loveholic. Although I've heard Jisun only, I think they are great. I plan on trying out their music later.

kirei_ayumi 21st May 2008 05:56 AM

looking for female rnb? I suggest Big Mama! excellent vocals.. I have all albums so let me know if you need them! :)

here's a video to watch!
http://youtube.com/watch?v=itwKNay2XQI

I agree with Riozz. Try out Clazziquai Project! they are excellent also. there's not only a female singer, but also a male. sometimes they do duets, and other times they sing their own songs..

here's a video to watch!

I agree...I hate her slower songs @_@. The only one I really like is one I found on her first greatest hits album, I don't know the proper name for it but it sort of has a reggae feel to it? In the chorus it says "I'll remember you, you are always on my mind" something like that..
Sorry for the ****** description :X!

Richieooxx 21st May 2008 07:48 PM

I also forgot to add Lexy <3
