[Oricon Poll] Ayu's A Song for XX comes #3

Source: http://www.oricon.co.jp/news/ranking/55022/full/

Edit: This poll is actually about the songs that are deeply embedded into people's hearts, that they remember very well... songs that people believe represent certain artists and have helped them through some difficulties. Part of the article from Oricon talked about songs that helped people overcome difficulties, which was why I thought this was what the poll was about, sorry. XD;;

Ayu's A Song for XX came third due to its impacting lyrics!!

4ever*ayu 5th June 2008 01:11 PM

A Song for XX is one of ayu's early songs that helps many people (mostly Japanese) to 'overcome barriers' in their hardest time in life....although ayu said that this song was wrote to herself not for others..

Quote:

from Suzuki Takatomo-kun in Sagamihara City. "There were many incidents and I felt low today. But listening to Ayu's voice, I came to feel better. Thank you."

Chibi_Venus 8th June 2008 12:54 AM

Okay, I will admit that "A Song for XX" is beautiful, but you guys are gonna hate me for asking this:

How is it percepted as uplifting/supportive? It's pretty sad (dare I say depressing) everytime I look at it.

Quote:

I was born alone. I'll go on living alone.
I thought that surely that kind of life is appropriate.
:confused

Is it like, "I don't need anybody; I can stand up for myself," or something? It always looks to me like it's saying, "I don't need anybody; who needs a life without supporters?"

Sorry for being so blind. T.T I just never understood how people saw it as powerful!

(miss)understood 8th June 2008 01:50 AM

I want the job of creating polls at Oricon.
I would be good at it and it would totally beat my current job.

Oh and, in response to your question:

:confused

Basically, if you look at the first parts of the song, someone is obviously sticking around to help her.
So she isn't saying she actually is better off, she is saying that she thought she WOULD be alone,
but thank goodness, she isn't. Does that make sense?

DOLCE 8th June 2008 02:20 AM

Amazing!

Ayu had really impressive song writing skills even back then :heart

pommy48 8th June 2008 03:55 AM

A Song for XX get me through the hard times!

slavomiros 8th June 2008 07:35 AM

Damita 8th June 2008 10:52 AM

Nice to see ZARD and Ayumi make the list :D

ayuzlove 8th June 2008 11:08 AM

woah..Congratz to ayu! :yes

summersnow 8th June 2008 06:42 PM

thanks for the good news!!
I really like A Song for XX too!!
it's really a great song with very impacting lyrics!!

Nami Nami Nami 8th June 2008 08:47 PM

The poll's actually about artists' signature songs.

jonneh 9th June 2008 02:17 AM

This is great news, because ASFXX is one of those really powerful songs that she lets out rarely, every so often. Her lyrics sometimes don't really get to me or make me think too much, especially nowadays, but there are some songs out there that are just like "wow..". ASFXX is one of them. I also like the lyrics of "alterna".

Whaaa? Zard I understand completely if that's true, but Ayu? Surely M or Seasons or even Evolution would've topped it in that case? Or something that was a single at least?

I heartily agree with both your surprise and the sentiments that it's well deserved! ASFXX seems to be almost the 'core' of many of Ayu's songs or their theme.

With the help of your response, yes, everything seems to make sense. :) Thank you very much!

It's not that I hate the song or anything (because I love it!! :D), I just never quite looked at the lyrics thoroughly. :tipsy

*just realizes she hasn't said this yet* Thanks for the info on the poll! :)

HolyDragon10 11th June 2008 01:59 PM

Wow, SMAP is there too.I remember how addictive Sekai ni Hitotsu Dake no Hana was (maybe it still is).
Nice to see ayu at #3 with ASFXX

ayuayu798 11th June 2008 03:01 PM

YAY ayu!! thanks for the news !!

panda87 11th June 2008 04:41 PM

WELL OF COURSE.

ayu is unparalleled when it comes to impacting music. she's unlike anyone. she's special.

RadnasticReggie 12th June 2008 03:16 AM

Haha Wow.
She's making it to the top of so many polls and things.
Hopefully she does this well on her music.
I want her to come out with more music.
And more of her 're-recorded' Haha

Richieooxx 12th June 2008 06:31 AM

Wow, thats really awesome :)

happiholic★ 13th June 2008 03:43 AM

This is my favorite song by Ayu, and it means a lot to me.

Although it didn't get #1 on the poll, its the #1 song it the world to me.

Ayu_no_tenshi 13th June 2008 06:51 AM

i don't know why people find this so surprising...
i've had several of my friends in japan talk about this song
and it's like when you hear it for the first time you think
"wow...i wonder what happened to her." and you feel bad for her
it also helps you realize that no matter what bad things happen...
you can always make it thru just be strong

Zacek 16th June 2008 01:48 AM

Thanks for the info! That means Ayu is in people's hear

aqua_crystal 16th June 2008 11:30 AM

Yeah. A Song For XX really deserved that. The lyrics were amazing.

Minttulatte 17th June 2008 05:43 PM

I'm not surprised at all. A Song for xx is very emotional and personal to many people, I think, me included. It's one of my favourities also, because it's so beautiful. I love this song into bits. <3
