- KAT-TUN is a record-breaking talento group under Johnny's Entertainment. they might have made their musical debut in 2006 with the million-selling single "Real Face", but they've been a solid unit since 2001. They were initially a temporary backdancing unit for KinKi Kids' Koichi Domoto, but since fans loved them so much, the unit remained. they were the most successful Johnny's Junior unit to ever emerge from the company, seeing as KAT-TUN was the ONLY Johnny's Jr. group that can fill concert venues. their 2nd live concert DVD, KAT-TUN Live Kaizokuban, remains Japan's best selling concert DVD selling up to 400,000+ copies. and they weren't even full fledged musicians when it was released.

so when KAT-TUN finally made their debut, they smashed records with their triple release of a CD single (Real Face), a CD album (Best of KAT-TUN), and DVD (Real Face Film). Real Face Film became the best selling DVD from any artist, Real Face beat out fellow JE group Arashi's "A.RA.SHI" single, for the highest 1st week sales by a group, & Best of KAT-TUN also reached number 1. they were the 2nd artist to get #1 for all three spots, the first being Ms. Ayumi Hamasaki! every single since Real Face has reached the number 1 position w/ over 300,000+ copies sold its first week alone. i think it's safe to say that no other j-pop act can mirror their first week sales.

thus said, it wasn't always a bright light for KAT-TUN. at one point, they almost accepted the fact that they weren't going to debut, since they have waited 5 full years and have seen fellow their fellow comrades debut before them. they almost broke up because it was no secret that the boys did not enjoy each other's company. there was jealousy circulating around late 2005 when it was announced that Kazuya Kamenashi was going to have a one-time CD single release, "Seishun Amigo", with NEWS member Tomohisa Yamashita. and finally, member Jin Akanishi took a 6 month hiatus to study abroad at Los Angeles, CA just prior to the group's 3rd single release in late 2006.

despite all this, KAT-TUN is a solid unit. they're stronger than ever. they've taken all their bad (& good) experiences and pushed it towards their music, acting, and other TV appearances. they truly enjoy each other's company nowadays and are very active, as well as dedicated, towards their careers as Japanese idols. KAT-TUN consists of 6 very different characters. but as a group, they function as one unit.

Kamenashi Kazuya (亀梨和也)

- Kame is the baby of the group!
- despite being the youngest, he's probably the most matured one!
- he claims he's very bad at writing songs, but ironically enough, he wrote one of KAT-TUN's most recognized songs, "Kizuna" (it's a solo for the CD version on Seishun Amigo). he also wrote "SPECIAL HAPPINESS", a duet song sung by Kame & Junno.
- the writer of "Tatta Hitotsu no Koi", Kitagawa Eriko, wrote the drama with Kame in mind for the lead!
- he's very fashion oriented. he's been Best Jeanist for the past 2 years.
- he has 3 brothers. & they pretty much look just like him. OMGHOTT, RIGHT?
- he has 2 million selling singles under his belt, Seishun Amigo along with YamaPi & Real Face w/ KAT-TUN.

Akanishi Jin (赤西仁)

- loves Western culture and is heavily influenced by his experiences in LA.
- he is best friends with YamaPi, the DV (Nishikido Ryo), & Shirota Yuu.
- he has 1 brother, Akanishi Reio. and his mom gave birth to him at a ripe age of 14.
- homeboy hates to lose.
- he writes most, if not all, of his solos. his most notorious one is probably "ha-ha". PLZ WATCH
- "PINKY" is quite scandalous also: WHO BE THAT GURL THERE?
- he's been in Gokusen 2 with Kame. He also starred in anego & Yuukan Club.

Taguchi Junnosuke (田口淳之介)

- he's the tallest member!
- he had surgery on his leg around 2004 and KAT-TUN was a 5 member group back then too. XD;;
- he's known for his very lame jokes and puns.
- he's left-handed!
- he replaced Uchi Hiroki in Ganbatte Ikimasshoi, since he got caught with underage drinking. he's also been in Happy!, Happy! 2, Hanayome to Papa, & Yuukan Club with fellow JE member Yokoyama Yuu & group member Akanishi Jin.
- he's skilled in acrobats and probably the smoothest dancer in KAT-TUN
- he's the only member that doesn't write or attempt to write his own solo songs. he usually gets famous people like Micro of Def Tech or Anchang from SEXMACHINEGUNS to do so. LOL.

Tanaka Koki (田中聖)

- he's the rapper of the group.
- his pen name is JOKER. he's written most of his solo songs and he's also the genius who penned "SIX SENSES".
- even though he looks gangsta~, he's very sweet and sensitive.
- he's close with Nakamaru Yuichi and used to do comedic skits with him at concerts.
- his little brother, Tanaka Juri, is managed by Johnny's Ent too!
- he's the only other member other than Kame to win at the Japanese Drama Awards (Best Supporting Actor for "My Boss, My Hero").
- he was at a University, but withdrew due to his busy schedule.

Ueda Tatsuya (上田竜也)

- our resident Gackt fanboy. he even had a period in life where he kinda looked like him.
- he enjoys boxing!
- he's the only member that hasn't done any solo activities, like drama, solo stageplay, etc. HE HAS A SOLO CON THIS COMING SEPTEMBER! YAY!
- once claimed to see fairies! but, once he turned 20, he couldn't see them anymore.
- he's close with Nakamaru Yuichi, since they were in the same Johnny's Junior unit (M.A.D. = Musical Academy Dancing, LOL) before he was placed in KAT-TUN.
- he is a S type. (S = sadist) LOL.
- he writes his solos too. he had a hand in composing his solo, "Ai no Hana" as well.

Nakamaru Yuichi (中丸雄一)

- he is known for his human beatbox.
- In May 2008, he announced that he was going to major in Environmental Science at Waseda University.
- he starred in the j-drama "Sushi Oji!" with his senpai Domoto Koichi. he was also in "Kindaichi Shonen no Jikenbo~Kyuuketsuki Densetsu Satsujin Jiken" with Tanaka Koki & Kamenashi Kazuya.
- he is the most dependable guy and is often the peacemaker when KAT-TUN gets into fights.
- he was the only member that had contact with Jin when he was in LA.
- like most other members, he pens his solos. i love Key of life
- his trademark body part is his huge nose. XD;;

Jin's a diva, yes. but, a lovable one! :laugh there is a distinct change from 2005-2006 Jin diva and now. i much prefer the "now". i like the honest, snarky personality he's sporting.

Koki changes his look a lot too! i remember spazzing out over his baby/young Junior days! he was so cute back then. i remember the first time i saw him bald. i was like, "WHOA. O_O" but he's probably the only Johnny that can pull that look off.

though, i can't imagine Koki w/ a perm like MatsuJun's Tsukasa. i think i will keel over. :dead2

Umm does anyone have the top 100 single chart? I wanna know how KAT-TUN are doing against Thelma. They should or any JE band or that matter, release a 3A single like Namie. The sales would be INSANE.

i like Koki's Live Kaizokuban hair. :P he had hair at least. :laugh and i was a Koda fan back then (not anymore), so i thought it was cool that he had a male counterpart to her hairstyle. haha.

yeah, i think it's time K-T released a double A-side / triple A-side. that would be AWESOME. :D

i really like both, so it doesn't matter to me. Koki had long hair when i got into K-T, so it was really odd seeing him without hair at first. :laugh

double A's are pretty rare in JE (triple A's are even more rare!), but i still hope for one. hopefully they'll have some sort of single release after the boys are done with touring & all.

T&T deserves more sales! i can't believe they are the worst-selling JE unit. :weep i mean, they were HUGE (esp. Tackey) when they were Juniors. they mirrored KAT-TUN's Junior success, if not bigger! well, i guess JE didn't make the right moves with them.

i really liked the way Pi looked in the Kurosagi-drama era. :yes he's slimmed down a bit, but he isn't deathly skinny like he was prior to Dragon Zakura. i thought he looked the best when he shot his Tarzan pics.

i think Jin's fine. at least he has a bit of fat, haha.

i like K-T's ballads, but they don't strike me as a ballad group, LOL. but doing ballads every once in a while is good. just as long as it's good as "Bokura no Machi de" or "Crazy Love". haha.

i think the album with the most ballads / slow songs would be "cartoon KAT-TUN II You". it has "Bokura no Machi de", "Utai Tsuzukeru Toki" :heart, "MY ANGEL, YOU ARE MY ANGEL", & Maru's "key of life", as well as Kame's "someday for somebody" are ballads too.

i didn't really notice until you asked. i didn't know cKTIIY had that many ballads! LOL.

I'm considering to listen to their 1st 2 albums but I just wonder , which one's more recommended & stronger since I know their 1st album only contains Real Face except it has been rearranged differently

i think you should listen to Best of KAT-TUN first, karenpang. i played that album for months when it got released! it's very strong and has a blend of everything. it has some KAT-TUN classics too, like "GOLD", "WILDS OF MY HEART", and "Harukana Yakusoku" (this was their first song as a unit!).

and since you like "Ai no Command" & "HELL, NO" i suggest "RHODESIA" off that album too. :D

i like cartoon KAT-TUN II You also, but i think it's harder to listen to. unlike -QoP- & BoKT, i think this album is kinda all over the place with no central theme to it. also, Jin doesn't take part in most of the new tracks since he was gone during this time. he's only in "SIGNAL", "YOU", & the bonus 2nd disc. but i do recommend it! the 5 solos are amazing!

after their 1st album , I gave some of the songs on their 2nd album a shot , it all seems messy & all over the place aside from the 2 singles

I might probably change my perception on their 2nd album in days to come but I really adore the tunes that I have heard on their 1st album , all of them are practically solid

i think -QoP- > BoKT, LOL. i loooooove their older material, but i just love them now. they've evolved their style to a whole different level! you still have that Johnny-esque sound in BoKT, but not so much in -QoP-.

yeah, cartoon KAT-TUN II You isn't bad. the situation that it was recorded in was pretty tough. i mean, as much as i appreciate the hard work 5-man K-T put into it, none of T-TUN could rise up to Jin's vocal ability. it can only be Kame/Jin as lead vocals, imo. Jin was a pretty hard role to fill. i think that's what was "off" about that album.

but i still love it. LOL. honestly. I GOT "LOVE OR LIKE" IN HQ. and yeah, "FREEDOM" is pretty boss.

WOW, REALLY?! if it was one thing--ONE THING--i absolutely love about Jin, it's the voice. it's strong, definitely lead vocal material. and i think it's wonderful. to be honest, i think it's one of the best in JE and up to par with Domoto Tsuyoshi, Tegoshi Yuya, Imai Tsubasa, etc.

...talking about Jin's voice really reminds me of his very hiiiigh note in GOLD ~Ballad Version~. DAYUM. :laugh

i like Maru & Ueda's voices too. i prefer them over Kame even, but i don't think it's lead vocal material. they're great, but very "soft". Kame's far from best vocalist, but it's decent and his voice has this strong, confident feel to it. and that's why i prefer him & Jin as lead.

i tend to get jin's voice and kame's voice mixed up. that's what happened when i was listening to LIPS today, lol.

LOL! yeah, i think LIPS is one of those songs you can get those 2 mixed up. especially since it's hard rock and fast-paced.

i think in their ballads, you get to hear the individual voices the best. maybe. like, in GOLD ~Ballad Version~ from KAT-TUN Live Kaizokuban. *brace yourself for Jin's high note* :laugh

I tried my best to listen to their 2nd album but for some reason/s , I'm not feeling the non singles at all :(

then again to be fair I think I better give the album a throughly listen to decide whether I like it or not

but I do know that I'm liking the songs on the 1st album now !

EDIT -- ok at least so far the song that I like is Tanaka's Make U Wet solo . I like the music going on in there

I like Jin's voice, but I can tell its not the best, its probably just mediocre compared to the greater JE voices. I really agree with the list kaori gave:yes, especially Nagase that man can really belt it out :P

well, i still think Jin's one of the best JE singers. :P
and i wouldn't be honest if i didn't say i got into KAT-TUN's music because of his vocal ability. and i don't think it's whiny at all! it was only recently that he's been putting a lot of attitude into the music. he might have penned ha-ha, Pinky, & LOVEJUICE, but he's also the creator of Murasaki, care, & Hesitate. i often wonder if songs like Murasaki would ever come again. :weep

...pretty OT, but since u mentioned Tomo-baby Kaori, i got into TOKIO because of Jin. LOL. he was the only person that like, covered TOKIO as a Junior. he's covered "Kimi wo Omou Toki" like 8 bajillion times. & Nagase's one of Jin's favorite sempais! :heart

i really wanted Jin to interact with their western guests, like Alicia Keys, Aly & AJ, Rihanna, etc. but he's always quiet. i guess he's shy when it comes to speaking english. i think he said a line of english to Ne-Yo but i'm not so sure. haha.
