The 53rd Koda Kumi Thread -Take II-
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2264/...74e6213264.jpg All right guys, I'm sure you all know by now that the most recent Kumi thread has been sent to the trash and there's a reason why...the evilness of spam. It's true, Kumi doesn't have any particularly "new" material out right now, which would make things a lot easier to stay on-topic but regardless, we have to try and not spam. It's okay to get a little off topic, but not to the point where something like this happens. Personally, I love Kumi and I know many others here do or at least like her and have been turned off from coming here due to the excessive spam. So we as a group have to try our very very hardest in not spamming and if it does come up (which hopefully it doesn't) then we gotta report it. This thread is for Kumi discussion. And let's keep it in the Artists & Bands section guys...not make it get thrown out into the trash... MOON: xx -> 02 -> 03 -> 02 -> 02 -> 02 -> 02 88,309 03 -> 07 -> 06 -> 03 -> 04 -> 06 -> 05 19,251 02 -> 13 -> 13 -> 11 -> 11 -> 09 -> 10 12,748 09 -> 21 -> 18 -> 15 -> 12 -> 16 -> 16 5,552 13 -> 30 -> 25 -> 25 Total Sales: 125,860 Remember...please no spam guys. I really wanna keep the Kuu threads active cause it would suck if there was no place to discuss Kumi in all her awesomeness. And I'm sure if we can maintain these threads without un-necessary spamming, in time, the Kuu threads name will be not be as...disliked. :yes Anywho, enjoy posting!!! And keep the spam away!!! |
Oh Yay! First reply! What should we talk about? ...
Um... What kind of direction do you want Kumiko to go in next? Musically? |
Quote:
she has dabbed in rock (ningyo-hime) , jazz (MORE) maybe she should release a bossa nova inspired tune next |
*this is why there was no thread...*
anyway well personally, I would like her next single to be something like Selfish, her ''old stuff'' - dance stuff something that would make us move. but I think that the direction she took with Lady Go! and Once Again was really great :yes even if Lady Go! looked like girls, etc. I liked the electro sound of it :yes Once Again was something completly new =) and I liked it |
Well the way that I see it, Moon Crying was the principal song on MOON thus the leading A-side was a ballad. We'll probably get another ballad during the winter-time per tradition so between the two, I hope we get a dance song as the lead A-side for the next single.
That Ain't Cool was nice but I feel like she's straying away from the dance songs and I really want her to go back. However I am happy she is trying new things. Like Amai Wana was an Arabian track but it showed off her vocal power/range more than the others and for that, it really stood out. There doesn't have to be any ero-kakkoi but something that's a great dance song...hmm, even going back to her previous type of work on albums like grow into one / feel my mind would be great!!! Once Again and Lady Go! were great songs IMO, particularly Once Again. She never went into the reggae feel before and she really excelled at it. Lady Go! even had that like electronic thing going for it [although it just isn't as good as With your smile]. Come to think of it, Lady Go! was kinda cute but it wasn't a really like "kawaii" song so maybe that's what we can expect. I think the combination of dance + cute [i.e. With your smile] would be awesome right now. And I would love a jazzy sound again since she really works well with songs like that ;) |
^I agree, I want something really energetic and dance-y. It doesn't necessarily have to be a happy song, I'd want her actually to do a more angry song, rock tinged and showing off all the ranges she can hit.
|
I would prefer her do a song like Ami's doing right now...just no vocals being distorted, I think Kumi could totally hit that music right away and it could get good!, or even something along the lines of Cutie Honey.
|
Quote:
I wanna have another song like Selfish which has the rock tints but also has a great dance beat. That is one of her best songs and one of the songs that got me into Kumi in the first place. I just want her to keep experimenting with different sounds because she's one of the people I know will make music I will enjoy. |
Well, I would like it if her music was like rock (Ningyo Hime), but I also like Amai Wana - sounding stuff. Like not nescessarily dirty, but dancey. Like Amai Wana said.
|
Quote:
I like the direction she undertake in Once Again , it's a very cool concept I would like it if she can incorporate more exotic sounds in her songs as I really like that coming from her , you know tunes like Shake It Up , Candy , Get It On |
Quote:
Yes, I would love something like Shake It Up again. Those sounds are something that are pretty unique with her. Basically keep the Arabian songs [Candy, Amai Wana, etc.] coming. Even JUICY had some elements in it. I loved the Indian work too [SHAKE IT] Personally, I think Kingdom is a signal that I have nothing to worry about because she'll continue to do greatness. The only nitpick is that I would like more dance dance songs [something like Crazy 4 U and Butterfly]. And once again, jazz would be nice [i.e. Chase, MORE, Nasty girl] |
I agree with Donovon-bozu's not dirty comment, I'm getting tired of dirty songs >.>... The one thing I don't want from her now is another bubbly song like Birthday Eve or WIND, I want her to do something aggressive and powerful!
|
musically, i want kumi to go in a more "lively" direction, with high energy, fast-moving performances. i'd love something like FREAKY, that song is just so fun!
as for her image, i'd really like for her to have longer hair, ditch the black, and wear more colorful outfits... all she's been wearing lately was black, blue, purple, white, etc. she needs more variety! i think the performances for moon crying was beautiful, and i thought it was a great post-scandal image, but i hope she's moved past that and can do more fun performances again! i know i'll be there to support her no matter what she does, though. i would also love something like BUT, sexy, high-energy, but not too dirty. |
Quote:
her erotic songs were a classic & so were the PVs :laugh but I don't think down the line she wanna keep doing that over & over again ne somemore Koda was young when she put out all the stops on the erotic material now that she's older & hopefully more wiser , I'm sure she doesn't want to do that anymore guess the scandal forced avex to put a stop to all of these nonsense |
Quote:
And yes, she doesn't need to go dirty to have enjoyable dance music. So I hope she keeps pressing on :) |
i think that ain't cool pv would have been so much better if they had choreographed dancing... i think that it had so much potential :/ i was a bit disappointed with it, but i still enjoyed it. both kumi and fergie are good dancers, and i would have preferred to see some sexy dancing rather than fergie and her ... positions.
|
Quote:
I only watched it once & that's it |
That Aint Cool DID have a lot of potential. Instead, it made Fergie and Kuu in wierd postions, complete with scenes of a creepy Fergie sexually stretching in an office? BORING.
|
i think the "parking lot" thing could have been done much better. if only they hired some good choreographers, it could have been so much better. the way it was filmed was just... not really good at all. when they were together, it was a camera spinning around them, when kumi was alone, there was weird close-up stretched out angles and ... idk, i didn't really like it. i thought she looked cute tho lol
|
Quote:
the PV for That Ain't Cool is not cool to begin with , hands down I was expecting more considering the people who were behind the production of the video & etc guess not |
^those were my fav scenes XD
I like the whole unified girl thing with them standing in the parking lot. Kumi looked great and even Fergie looked nice Kuu's solo scenes were awesome too. She looked really pretty...Fergie's not so much... |
Quote:
personally if the PVs were better , do you think the sales of MOON could have been much better ? cos Moon Crying looks really cheapskate to me |
I agree with whoever said she should do another FREAKY, I love that song. But I don't feel she should do that right away. I think her next single should be double A again, the first Aside being an aggressive dancable song, and the other(or the b-side if it's not a double A), should be a MORE-esque song, since her voice really shone in MORE.

Quote:
if you take away the B sides , it wouldn't do well imo BUT / Aishou's a single that deserves the top spot , it's a pity that didn't happened :( |
Fergies good and everything, but Koda Kumi>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Fergie in looks, talent, dancing, style etc etc. she might not be the best at English but id rather hear a Koda song in English even then a Fergie song, but that just might be coz i love J-pop sooooooo Much XD
Nce Magazine scans of Kuu |
Oh wow! Thank you so much! I've been waiting for these to come out! Koda looks so pretty ^-^ they make such great buddies :laugh
|
thanks for the scans. wow~ the size is really very big, thanks for scanning this
|
Quote:
thanks for taking the time to upload & scan the whole lot from What's In? mag , Libriya I only dig those shots of Koda though :P |
Thanks for the scans!
As far as a new single I think another But/Aisho release would be a definite yes!, IMO it was her best single regarding Kingdom. Freaky would be second, then Anytime, and then crappy Ai No Uta!...IMO I think Ai No Uta/Moon Crying are like the same song with different melodies and words...they're both extremely boring. I was SOOOOOO excited when I heard the preview for Moon Crying but when I heard the full version...I was like BLAHH! |
Quote:
a bit dramatic on what you said but I have to agree with you outta the singles that she put out prior to Kingdom , BUT / Aishou's easily the best outta the whole lot there's something lacking in FREAKY & I remembered I hated LAST ANGEL when it was 1st released but I'm ok with the song now I changed my mind on the song after I heard TOHOSHINKI's solo take on their T album |
Quote:
Thanks! |
I agree.
BUT/aishou was her best single in awhile. Since then she didn't release good singles imo (yeah, even FREAKY wasn't amazing, just the song itself was good though it took it a year to grow on me). |
Quote:
|
Thanks for the scan Kuu and Fergie look really cute together!! Especially on the cover!!
|
I think that Kuu should try a different style of song. I like songs that kind of have an Arabian beat (SHAKE IT, Amai Wana).
I also agree that her next single should be a double a-side single with the first track being a more of a dance song and the second track something like a fresh summer like I'll be there. Quote:

|
Yeah i didn't like FREAKY that much. girls + RFYL are the highlights of that single for me XD!
|
I remember reading that "FREAKY" was chosen as the main a-side because avex thought that the title would appeal to the fans or something and that the word also matches the cover and such.
|
Quote:
Quote:
agree , for some reasons in the FREAKY single , I tend to listen to the 3 B sides more than the main A side Quote:
it makes sense anyway you know with a title track like FREAKY matching the attire get up of Koda & all it will seem funny & odd if Sora's put as the A side with the FREAKY covers |
i think FREAKY is a very cool track. Its a mix of rock + hip-hop.
Sora isnt that bad, but its the least song i listen to from that single. i love run for your life, i agree its a little messy, but she sounds so cute with those rappings. girls has very high-energy. Perfect song for concerts. I love it so much too! |
Sora isn't A-side material IMO.
|
sora is the song off of the single that i skip the most :(
|
Quote:
Personally the title FREAKY misled me about the song's style. When I saw that title I was like oh cool were getting sexy!!...except not. For me, it was FREAKY - Run For Your Life - girls - sora [usually skipped] |
i love FREAKY now, but it took me a while to appreciate it, i didn't like it that much at first. i thought Run For Your Life was cute and i liked it from the beginning. girls is good and fun and i love her lives for it, and sora is just idk, i like it but it's nothing that special imo.
|
I think Kuu has potential to go in almost any musical direction now that Kingdom is out. It didn't have a dominant "theme" of music: it wasn't inundated with pop, rock, dance or r&b/dirty songs, it was actually a mixture of all these (plus some slower-y tracks). So I think she has a wide range to work from for her next single/singles/album.
Since MOON was a ballad, I can see her next single featuring a more upbeat a-side with maybe a slower counterpart, like the opposite of MOON. I think she might continue to go with pop tracks IMHO - I'm not sure why but that seems to be the 'image' or style she wants to use? Maybe I'm basing too much of this off my impressions of the 'anytime' PV. |
To be honest, I prefer if Kuu ditched the cute stuff. I mean, Wind, someday, and Koi no Tsubomi was pretty good, but I really don't like the nasally tone she uses when she sings Birthday Eve (although IMO that song had great arrangements). I guess what made me notice her in the first place because she wasn't the "kawaii" artist, and it separated her from a lot of other jpop artist.
But I would definitely like to see more jazz-influenced, something with real instruments but still manages to be upbeat, like Butterfly or Chase, or heck, even Come with me. Although to be honest, I loved Ningyo Hime, but personally I think her voice doesn't really suit that type of heavy rock that much. |
i would loooove to she herr do something like "Chase" again! it's still my fave song from here :) But to be honest, i like her cute songs and i dislike "ningyo hime" type songs (from anyone, not just kuu). (something like yume no uta would be good, too. i love winter themed music! it's my fave time for music hehe~ but i have a while to go before that starts hahaha)
|
man & I thought a lot of people would like Sora , I'm surprised quite a lot of you guys doesn't like it
There's just something about FREAKY that I don't like . Maybe it's because she keeps on screaming GET FREAKY in the background ? :shrug it gets annoying after a while you know |
i think the great thing about kumi's music is that she is versatile, and she's done a variety of genres, and it seems that there is something for everyone to like, and no particular song genre can satisfy everyone. some people like myself love her cute stuff, while others dislike it, but those people can, for example, like her dance music or her rock-inspired songs.
there's really something for everyone i think, if they want to look through all of the songs she has! i personally like every genre she's done, because it's something different from the same artist, so it makes it harder to get bored of her. the only stuff i don't really like is her early work, pre Secret, with a few exceptions. |
1. SMILY - Ai Otsuka
2. SUNSHINE - AAA 3. SUMMER TIME LOVE - EXILE 4. Summer Dream - DBSK 5. Blue Sky - Color 6. One More Time,OK? - Tenjochiki 7. 恋のつぼみ - Koda Kumi 8. FREE FREE - Ami Suzuki 9. Shapes Of Love - Every Little Thing 10. BUSY NOW - hitomi 11. BOY MEETS GIRL(RADIO ON AIR MIX) - TRF 12. BLUE BIRD - Ayumi Hamasaki http://www.neowing.co.jp/track_for_c...KEY=AVCD-23661 not really feeling the title of the compliation :no EDIT - MOON is certified gold by RIAJ ! http://www.riaj.or.jp/data/others/gold/200806.html translated site - http://books.google.com/translate?u=...F8&sl=ja&tl=en |
Quote:
I really hate Sora though. Quote:
Quote:
And congrats to Kuu for the gold certification. But, can someone please explain what that RIAJ exactly is? |
It's the Japanese equivalent of the American RIAA (Record Industry Association of America) they do several things including; setting down copyright laws and promoting music sales. If you wanna read further, here is the Wiki -Link-
Now, back on topic. I didn't like Sora or girls much either, really. I've only heard them a handful of times, and that's enough for me to say that I don't like it. |
I did not like FREAKY at all when I first heard it but then I got curious and relistened to it and it sounded a lot better then when I first heard it :/

I thought they will put With your smile though |
I seriously don't think FREAKY is a good song to perform live since Kuu always ad-libs (sp?) ):
|
^Yeah I hate it that she sing half of the verses and almost nothing from the chorus... (specially the engrish parts).
I think that kumi started to sound tired when she's singing BUT, Cherry Girl and FREAKY for some reason. I didn't like how she sang them on LIVE IN A HALL though the arrangements were great but she just shouted into the mic and sounded tired >_< and imo she always sounded tired while singing BUT even if people say she sounds great =P. BUT is one of my favorite songs of kumi but she just can't sing it live because she always sound tired while singing it... it might be because of BUT's dancing. |
I don't like it when Kuu is doing her ad-lips. Infact, I think that her ad-lips are really annoying especially when she sings ballads.
|
I actually like some of her ad libings like you's in ~ss~ TOUR XD.
Her late ad libbings though aren't good as they used to be. =\ |
^Aren't they called ad-libs?...anywhoozer, I agree...the ones she does in her ballads totally ruin the songs!
|
Oh yes, you are right "ad libs" (XD).
I also hate it when she goes "AhAh! WOOOW! YEEEEAAAAH! C'MON" in upbeat songs. I think that is very annoying. (Example maybe:) I also think it's annoying how she performed SHAKE IT at First Class Limited Live and Hot Stuff at the SS tour. SHAKE IT (First Class Limited Live): She only sung like what? 20-30% of the song? The other 70-80% was just the CD playing with her voice. Hot Stuff (SS tour): I hate the way she sings it. She sings it so, vulgar (I guess). And again she did the "WOOOW! Pachi your hands!" thing. EDIT: "Pachi" is Japanese for "Clap". Though it sounds like more as "Push" |
I'm not a fan of her ad libs either. I'm fine with BoA's and ayaka's. But Koda's are irritating! XD
|
I usually like Kuu's ad libs for some of her ballads (like when she preforms You) but I get why people find them annoying.
|
Quote:
I get the fact that there are dancings involved, but to be honest, the routine for Shake it was hardly complicated. In some ballads it's okay, but the ad-libbing on through the sky during fever live was very annoying at the end IMO. |
^You are welcome :P.
Well, I'm not a singer so I can't really judge about the thing that I am about to say but the dance for the SHAKE IT performance at First Class Limited Live was the same as in the PV? If she can "sing" in the PV while singing why isn't she able to sing when performing life? :shrug But like I said, I am not a singer so can't reall judge about this. And the Love goes like... performance at SS tour is also a perfect example of ad libs (when she all goes "Ah yeah! Call me yeeah!"). Oh, and don't get me wrong! I still luv Kuu to death. EDIT: And I'm really sorry if you see this as Kuu bashing. I didn't mean it like that it's just my opinion. |
Quote:
I agree with you as well. kumi can't sing and dance together in some songs (like BUT and FREAKY). That's why she uses background recording (or studio instrumentals) and when she barely sings she sounds tired. |
True, but SHAKE IT was the first performance of the concert.
|
True but as I said there are some songs she just can't sing and dance together in them (even if they are the very first in the concert and she's really energitic).
That's most of the time why I like non-dancing performers more than dancing performers. Both are interesting but the non-dancing one can sing better even if they don't have huge cheorographies or don't move. Of course it's a matter of taste and opinions and sometimes I myself want to watch kumi's tours for the dances and stuff like that but I don't like her tired singing while she dances in some songs. |
Quote:
|
I actually like her BUT performances although she doesn't dance too much. She kinda just walks around around a lot fierecely XD
As of her adlibbing, I don't think it's as bad as others think. Like her Selfish performance at something [it was on the DVD of the Hot Stuff CD + DVD], she had some adlibs or some bad points for me but she dance strongly and generally had great vocals :) |
Quote:
it should have received its own PV instead of Run For Your Life although I must say that I enjoyed the PV to the song then again if Sora were to get its own PV , I wonder how the concept will be like maybe Koda will be floating in the sky or something , I don't know haha EDIT -- rock version of Real emotion ! http://www.ahsforum.com/forum/showth...69#post1544569 |
^I love "We've Been Already At Your House!"...in the RFYL pv...I :rofl at that!!!
|
Quote:
some of the Engrish used in the comic strip of the PV's just funny for words |
"It's so worried!"...LOL...I love that one too, but the guys they picked for her aren't even flattering...although I do find the "My Honey" guy oddly cute.
So what's the tracklist for her Kingdom tour? |
Quote:
guys in the PV - they weren't really cute to begin with :P Kingdom tracklist - not sure , it's still not finalised yet but 1 thing's certain , Amai Wana's not included :weep |

I am happy with FREAKY and RFYL being A-sides. Quote:

Does anyone know where I can find the translated (English) lyrics of RFYL?
|
RFYL reminds me of something Britney Spears would do back in her "hit me baby one more time" days. It's just so...mid-nineties. XD (not that it's a bad thing. I actually quite like RFYL)
|
Quote:
Quote:
I was shocked that she didn't do that live considering it's 1 of my fave non singles on Kingdom |
I loved the RFYL PV. The engrish was just so cute :yes
|
Um, question? What's "ad-lib?" (I'm stupid, I know)
|
Who makes the setlists for tours and such?...cause right now with Kumi they suck...and the costumes...let's just say I lost breakfast, lunch and dinner...:(
|
