The C-pop/M-pop Discussion Thread

I wonder how many here listens to Canton/Mando pop? I listen to both! And as much as I like Jpop...I need to go back to a language that I fully understand sometimes when I miss that familiarity and the feeling of home....

So who's your fav singer? What's your biggest hit in your ipod right now??

pommy48 11th August 2008 09:17 PM

AH!!! YAY!! finally a cpop thread....i thought about making one, but i didn't think anyone here really likes cpop, everyone likes jpop or kpop

hmm, i really love a-mei, she is really a classic in my eyes~ i think her "sisters" is the first song that i listened to when i was little, or at least i can remember when i listened to it, her songs is just full of memories for me, though i love jolin, but i don't think she have a great singing voice, i think a-mei is so much better

for males, i've been listening to yoga these days, i hope he'll live up to the standards of jay or leehom, which are 2 of my fave~

i've also been loving BY2~ they're sisters? idk, and they have really poppy songs!

Hazuki 11th August 2008 09:28 PM

I don't know many artists, but there's so many good songs
that I hear around the place~

There's only two that I love right now:
Super Junior M and Van Ness Wu~ @_@;

I used to listen to Jolin Tsai and S.H.E., but I don't like them so much :\
I still haven't give a listen to Leehom or JJ Lin.

pommy48 11th August 2008 09:32 PM

JJ Lin~ i only listened to west side, but i think i have 2 other albums by his, killer is my fave song from him~ really creepy, and i love the beat of it~ and the pv..is like silence of the lambs lol

i like SHE's harmony~i think
i never listened to Vanness before, he haven't released anything new right?

Hazuki 11th August 2008 09:44 PM

I will give a try to a-mei, it seems that she's really good,
when I read your post ^^

I have 1 album of JJ Lin (his first one) but I never listened to it :shrug
I'll find the "killer" song right now~

Btw~ Is Leehom good? I saw him singing on TV once, but not for long,
and he was rapping in English o_o;

Actually, Van Ness released a best album recently,
but he made 3 new songs, I uploaded it :)

pommy48 11th August 2008 09:58 PM

lol amei download i uploaded all of A-mei's album before hehe
i recommend Sisters or Bad Boy i think they're the most classic songs she have
"Holding Hands" is also great, i think the songs are more rock/pop
Can I Hug You, Lover? is a sequel to Holding Hands, but the songs get better and better
I Want Happiness is the comeback for A-mei, her previous albums were trying to go along with the young trend, which i think didn't work so well, I Want Happiness if full of beautiful, strong ballads
STAR is also great, more pop~, and different styles

i love wang lee hom, he have amazing songs IMO, he can speak perfect english, he was born in the US, i really love all of his albums, Impossible To Miss You, is the album I feel with great songs, Shangri-la, he puts more chinese influence to it~ and Unbelievable is great too...but i like to think of it as the time he's trying to go "gangster"

oo i'm download that vanness album~ best of albums are great to start with, i'll try and download when i'm on my own computer~

Richieooxx 11th August 2008 09:59 PM

It's all about Rainie Yang <3

paper_doll 11th August 2008 10:47 PM

Yay for Cpop. I really been listening to it over the past little while. My current favourites are Sa Ding Ding and Carrchy :heart

ayu-mix91 11th August 2008 11:37 PM

I love CPop. Rainie Yang, Jolin Tsai, Kelly Chen, Elva Hsiao, Fiona Sit, S.H.E. <3

I'm hooked to Yoga's debut album. The title track "神秘嘉賓" showcased the brilliance in his vocal ability quite nicely, and it is one of my favorite mando-pop tunes from this year.

pommy48 11th August 2008 11:42 PM

i know!!! i love the song "bo le" really it's a great song~ no wonder how he won the contest~

Fair Wind 12th August 2008 12:59 AM

My favourite Cpop artists are:
Nan Quan Mama
A-Mei Chang
Fan Wei Qi
Valen Hsu
Vivian Hsu
Kenji Wu
Claire Kuo
Xian Zi

I got into Cpop first before Jpop and Kpop, probably due to me being from Taiwan.

Chu-Lip506 12th August 2008 06:24 AM

There is only four i like so far.
Xaio Xaio (I think thats who you spell her name )
Isabella Leong (My FAVE)
Valen Hsu
Samantha Teoh (I wish I can find more by her, does anyone have anything by her)

p.s I have 2 albums by Xaio Xaio, and one EP by Samantha Teoh
and anyone wants them I can upload them!!!

prussian blue 12th August 2008 09:40 AM

pommy48 7th November 2008 02:35 AM

PoetGirl 7th November 2008 01:40 PM

yay, its great to see cpop thread here, like pommy said everyone seemed to be more interested in jpop and kpop. its funny that i have periods of listenin to only jpop, and then only cpop lol. im into cpop right now. rainie always and forever!!!! i listen to her in whatever period i am lol. she's more then amazing. i love her so much. she doesnt have bad song. then ofcourse queen a-mei. then amazing fanfan, elva hsiao, S.H.E, jay chou, and many more im about to discover, but cant cuz i listen to rainie's new album right now. lol

edit: i almost forgot amazing BY2, i luv them!

PoetGirl 7th November 2008 01:43 PM

Chu-Lip506 upload please Xaio Xaio

pommy48 8th November 2008 01:23 AM

BY2 is awesome!! those who have't listened to Y2J must! they're a duo with these rock voices~ it's amazing!

prussian blue 8th November 2008 08:08 AM

oh my god, you all know BY2 too?? they are so cute! they are coming to malaysia for promotion lately, and i dont remember what their hits called... sthg ballad. know that song? and also i'm in love with rainie's new album! it sounds so great! she's not acting cute again! ooops, nothing, poetgirl :D she sounds very mature, and her genre changes a lot! like it so much!!

anyway, did BY2 ever appeared in guessX3 show before their debut? i think i saw their episode about the twins, and they joined the show as a participant. they said they are singaporean, and moved to taiwan to study. but i'm not sure too. any idea?

Delirium-Zer0 8th November 2008 09:50 AM

I pretty much only listen to Nic Tse and Faye Wong anymore... for awhile though (okay like 8-9 years ago) I was really into Cpop. Most of them are older artists now that probably none of you are into and you'll probably laugh at me for being out of touch. :P

pommy48 8th November 2008 09:53 AM

^ lol and you'll probably laugh at us for NOT! being in touch with some of the classics >_<

also..huang zhong ren from Yellow sounds different..in the drama version, his voice is higher

yeah it's higher here...
:rolleyes...:luv2, i'm sorry!! i've always had a thing with guys with long hair like this XD, i grew up watching historical c-dramas XD

I heard BY2 have horrible eating habits and that they were sick or something..but idk, i know they were on show's tv show though

Delirium-Zer0 8th November 2008 09:57 AM

LOL That might be true.... I got into Cpop right towards the end of the reign of the Four Heavenly Kings, and there are a bunch of you who probably have no idea who they are. :P

pommy48 8th November 2008 10:12 AM

um them?
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...mmy48/1-11.jpg
i don't know a lot of their music except for jacky and andy...but come on! growing up in taiwan, just who doesn't know them haha, but aaron's latest concert dvd cover was @_@...why can't people ever choose better covers..

but i totally loved aaron when i was little! he used to be in all these pepsi commercials XD
*must keep this thread alive! spread the cpop love!!!*

wait wait! i love this nicholas song! it's a classic for me haha~ <3<3

:bawl why can't cpop be like this again..i miss the golden days of cpop, with lyrics actually dealing with realistic things..and not generic things that i've heard over and over again, that when lyrics overshadowed the music..when i could still cry from the songs..:bawl

prussian blue 9th November 2008 02:33 AM

pommy48 9th November 2008 02:40 AM

his hair is eh...:eviltongue
i love his debut album <33 it's amazing!

the only song i actually really like on jay's album is dragon knight..but it's sad that his #1 spot was quickly taken away by mayday

paper_doll 9th November 2008 02:48 AM

A lot people seemed excited for/about the Mayday album, but I thought it was really boring D:

prussian blue 9th November 2008 02:59 AM

mayday is releasing new stuff? weee, i didnt know that since i'm not a fans of them. are they good? i only hear some of their song with the colloboration with selina from SHE... what is the song name?

wow!! 4 heavenly kings!!! hahaha...i thought nobody remember their name already.....those were the days.......i still remember their 'shiny cards' and all those 'yes cards' were so popular in hk!!!!

and nicholas tse did have some good songs when he first started....although his mucis decline later i think..and now he only makes movies...but he was pretty popular when he first started...but than he also had a lot of bad news back than...

pommy48 9th November 2008 10:43 PM

lol yeah i read on faye wong's wiki, and it said her fans were worried when she started dating nic, cause he was a bad boy

i must say though...andy is still in great shape! and isn't he like 50 already!

they are from singapore, 16 years old only. they are surpose to take their O level this year, but they forgo it to go to taiwan for their training lessons. it was quite a news year.

and 3 months after, some idiots posted their pictures online, claiming that Andy Lau had a pair of twins girls in singapore and those are the girls. The girls' company was laughing then....

no i won't laugh, coz i like Andy's songs too, but my biggest craze have to be the cutest Jimmy Lin!!! :luv2 I have almost all his albums, i'm only missing 3 of it. :(
Been a fan of him since 1997, ha ha! i even got his photobooks, cards and the big LD(movies). (*_*) They are all sitting in my cabinet for these 11 years.
He's just getting more and more manly, with all his racings. but his acting is just....same....though i really love his first drama, 'The Twins Brothers'(Jue Dai Shuang Jia), with Alex Su. (^_^)

pommy48 10th November 2008 05:01 AM

LOL! at the twin girls with andy

<333 he's one of my fave actors~ i loved his in the journey to the west drama

seems like takeshi has the best career to date?

Where is Jimmy Lin these days?

pommy48 10th November 2008 05:48 AM

takeshi is the most sucessful in the entertainment world, but Jimmy is hitting off it well with his car racing!!!! He's awesome! :luv2 He even had his racing team and small company in China

pommy48 10th November 2008 06:41 AM

also...jimmy...he never ages~ i mean i can't believe he's 30 something already! i thought he was still 20 something when i watched my lucky star...but no! he's so young @_@, so youthful still!

edit:...jimmy wasn't in "handsome siblings"
was he?
i don't remember...

prussian blue 10th November 2008 06:52 AM

i respect JJ's talent in music. he has a high voice that i cant sing a long :( so i try to avoid his music, since i have the habit to try to sing along with any music

LacusClyne 10th November 2008 06:52 AM

pommy48 10th November 2008 06:55 AM

JJ Lin..is ehh..i still love wang lee hom or jay better <3

Delirium-Zer0 10th November 2008 07:50 AM

Dangit, I leave for what, 2 days, and you guys like.... all talk. XD

Anyway OMG TAKESHI KANESHIRO IS SO AWESOME.

As far as 4 Heavenly Kings go, Aaron Kwok is totally awesome XD He's got that cute baby face and his songs are so catchy. I have the "Journey Cheer" album. :)

OH I like Penny Tai too. Didn't see her mentioned yet, sorry if she was XD But her first album "Penny" is still my favorite.

and um.

Faye faye faye faye faye.

OH hey does anyone have an mp3 of Kit Chan's song "Lola"? I love that song.

pommy48 10th November 2008 07:53 AM

lol! we must talk!!! <333 bring the cpop love in everyone alive again!
:rolleyes i never listened to aaron (or i have...but how do you expect me to remember something i heard 10 years ago XD) would you care to enlighten me with his music :rolleyes, but still his latest concert DVD's cover was..@_@

oh i love penny~ though i only heard like 2 songs from her, but still <3 the song she did for meteor garden (which btw, imo is the best soundtrack)

aulait 10th November 2008 08:22 AM

I like canto pop the most =)
actually being a native of Hong Kong, I've gotten use to the sounds of C-pop and its a change when I can understand the lyrics completely, compared to Jpop.
I like the cookies girls, leo ku, kay tse, miriam yeung, janice..
as for mandarin pop i like alot of the taiwanese artists like fahrenheit and s.h.e

AyumiBest 10th November 2008 08:35 AM

I don't listen to chinese music as much as before but I still listen to it.
My favorite artists are probably Jolin Tsai and Faye Wong...probably XD
I used to like S.H.E but not anymore. LOL

pommy48 10th November 2008 08:37 AM

i used to like SHE too..then i didn't, now i'm trying to get back into them

jolin have so so..disappointed me this time..so i'm moving on~ and replacing her in my top 5 fave cpop artists with elva instead XD

btw..anyone listen to Amei, besides sebby and poetgirl?

AyumiBest 10th November 2008 08:48 AM

S.H.E's PLAY album got boring after a while and then eventually I moved on. I might become a fan again after listening to Miss Universe. XD

Jolin well I'm a pretty new fan of hers but I do think that her songs from like back when she was still signed to Sony were better than the songs from Dancing Diva and Agent J.

I've heard of Amei but never really listened to her songs. Any songs that should be recommended?

pommy48 10th November 2008 08:57 AM

^ exactly, she got all "sexy" with EMI >_<

amei..is a legend!! and hehe, i do have many recommendations <33 she's an artist through the ages!
Ting Hai (Listen to the sea) one of her best! prussian would agree with me on this one!

Title song from her second album "BAD BOY"
and yes, she does say bad dog XD

from her latest album released last year, Forever Happiness shows how flexible Amei is as to going along with the trends

Hostage, such a rich ballad with raw emotions

ok, she sang this song like 8 years? after it was released...and this is LIVE! and her vocals are still amazing! she is one of those artists that sound the same in albums and live

don't think amei is all ballad, she can go rock/pop too ;)

here is amei singing a cover of a famous chinese song, her voice is <333

there's more~ but i don't want to overwhelm you, amei have the same place in my heart for cpop like ayu have my heart for jpop...so she's very important to me~

AyumiBest 10th November 2008 09:35 AM

Wow...
I love Hostage and Ting Hai...they're beautiful! =P
Her cover for that famous chinese song is great! XD

Great music, great vocals, and a really cute personality, :luv2
And he composed A*mei's Ji De. 8DD

mimika 10th November 2008 06:56 PM

wowowow!! i was on this thread last nite and now there's like 2 new page! haha...

pommy : if you wanna listen to some old aaron kwok song...i recommend the ballad 當我知道你們相愛 (When I know you two are in love) it's an old mandarin ballad...too bad i don't have the mp3..altho his mandarin isn't that good..but lovely melody & lyrics...great song!

a lot of his older fast songs are great too...唱這歌 , 鐵幕誘惑 , 動起來 (國語) , Para Para Sakura , 狂野之城

ballad 我是不是該安靜的走開 (國語) , 強 (upbeat)....

i was never a big aaron fan..but these were SUPER hit songs...

I need some c-pop recommendations. I like Elva, and I was wondering if there were any other artists with music similar to hers? (For the record, I've also gotten bored of SHE and Jolin...or maybe I just never really got into them in the first place.)

jay does have good music, though i don't like his character. my respect for him drop further when when i learnt about the lame reason why he break off with jolin....i feel REALLy bad for her

pommy48 11th November 2008 07:00 AM

i don't really care much for character, it's not like i'm listening because i think he's such a great person

but i hate how he transferred the "mumbling" to jolin >_<

prussian blue 11th November 2008 07:57 AM

hey you know what i discover lately? i saw landy wen is performing with gary cau in a fahsion show. and i found that landy is wearing a similiar outfit with ami suzuki's new single cover :lech

pommy48 11th November 2008 08:01 AM

wat's the reason that he dumped
jolin???

i like SHE's harmony~i think
i never listened to Vanness before, he haven't released anything new right?

Killer is sooo good though!

Favorite canto artists... and don't laugh... is Twins! But sadly, they probably won't be doing anything for a long time because of the Edison Chen scandal with Gillian earlier this year, (T_T). I also did like Edison Chen too.... but Kelly Chan.. I like her for her fast songs; she tends to do too many ballad, slow songs which get boring though.

I listen to more Mandarin pop... Leehom Wang <3 <3 Angela Chang <3 <3 <3 are my favorites!

pommy48 12th November 2008 07:37 AM

i did like edison too~ only that one song where he's trying to be all gangster, i think it's "Do you remember me" the beat was pretty nice and i love any songs with oriental soundings to it..hmm now that i think of it, i still love it

<333333333 YAY for mandarin pop!! i love leehom and angela, flower in wonderland is my obsession right now!!

totally lame.

he can't stand jolin for needing the toilet too often and her eating habits, since she prefer to eat more healthy.

eg, like draining meat in water before eating, or that she prefer steamed/boiled food

AyumiBest 12th November 2008 11:15 AM

^Oh my god! Are you serious? Jay actually broke up with her just because she needs to go to the bathroom and her heallthy habits?

mimika 12th November 2008 04:48 PM

^ I thought Jay Chou broke up with Jolin 'cuz of Patty Hou?

i read somewhere that Jolin talked about how Jay lied to her about dating Petty...even after their pics were took by papparazzi in japan...jolin said she was the last one to know

Is that an original song, because I have a song by the band Ashura (阿修罗) from 2005 and it's the same. I thought the A-mei song was from her 2007 album?

pommy48 13th November 2008 02:48 AM

^ well looking at the beginning credits, it says the music and lyrics are created by ashura, so it's a cover

well, he can't stand her habits and he happen to met Patty then, so.....he compare the both of them...he prefer easy going/simple/girl-next-door girls and jolin's habits isn't his type, while Patty Hou is just THE type of girls he prefer.

and so you know what happen to poor jolin in the end.

too bad Jay is a music talent, but not in love life.....his albums are really great. *sigh* that's why i only download albums, but never purchase even one(coz i don't want him to earn a single cent from me). ha ha! *evil laugh*

Fair Wind 14th November 2008 05:31 AM

IMO, A-Mei's recent album was definitely very disappointing. Though compared to many other albums, it is ok, I just don't have much love for it, despite the fact that it was promoted like heck when I was in Taiwan at that time. I think it has to do with the fact that she was going even more mainstream than I was hoping. The album didn't have any spectacular songs on it, except for the 1st single. Especially compared to I Want Happiness & Maybe Tomorrow.

pommy48 14th November 2008 05:33 AM

i wish she would release something like she did in her earlier days..but after her producer's death, i feel no other person can really capture that ameiness in her

that sucks...i feel bad for jolin too

i guess when a person loses love for the other person, they can always pick out reasons on what they don't like about the other person since nobody is perfect

if you love somebody, you accept all his/her faults...when you don't love him/her anymore, even the smallest thing you can't stand

unfortunately that's reality

true, after Zhang Yu Sen's death, i lose all interest in her newer songs, they are like so generic to me.
I had given up of giving it a try after 2 albums

Fair Wind 23rd November 2008 08:14 AM

^Mmm, I'm not too sure about that lmao, at least not for me. Her first 2 albums really showed off her vocal abilities, but I think her later stuff really reflected how she had to adapt to her changing voice. I think Lover, May I Hold You? is stellar (probably because it's my first album by her) and both Truth and Fever were quite nice, especially the former (as I have her live, she sounds stunning).

Mm, but I would not want to go back in time. Yes, her voice was stellar, but I would prefer to leave those as her classics and not try to reach those levels with her voice right now. Like I said, Maybe Tomorrow is an amazing album, I just don't think many people really liked it because it wasn't the mainstream feel that she was bringing with her other albums at the time.

pommy48 23rd November 2008 08:17 AM

i would love if she didn't go mainstream so much on STAR, but anything for sales...i feel her recent ballads have a touch of her older stuff, so i :luv2 it

mimika 27th November 2008 07:11 PM

actually what happened to ah mei? how come she disappeared for a while?

pommy48 1st December 2008 02:08 AM

like during what time?

Fair Wind 2nd December 2008 12:15 AM

Well sometimes it takes a while for artists to release new CDs, especially in Cpop, which usually takes 1-2 years. She's probably recording right now.

pommy48 5th December 2008 01:14 AM

:thud omg..the beat of this song IS ADDICTING!!!!!!!!!!!! <3333333333
and haha, is that BY2 i see XD

but really....the engrish is horrible XD
"take a ***** on my sofa" :thud.....:thud

LacusClyne 6th December 2008 12:16 PM

i saw in the news that jolin will be releasing a new album next feb...yay!
