CHE.R.RY 15th August 2008 02:45 AM

Katy Perry anyone?

Here's the I kissed a girl video if anyone hasn't seen it yet.

So I haven't really been into the Western music industry for awhile now (with a few exceptions), but then I heard 'I kissed a girl' by Katy Perry, and I must say that it's such a catchy song! Her album 'One of the Boys' is also really good. Her lyrics can be so hilarious sometimes xD!

So does anyone else like her???

kirei_ayumi 15th August 2008 03:22 AM

aw~ the kitty :P she sounds pretty good. I like how she says 'I kissed a girl and i liked it" :heart

bondingo 15th August 2008 03:50 AM

For some reason I really can't get myself to like her. A friend of mine bought me her CD but I've barely listened to it more than once because her songs tend to personify a lot of things that I dislike about certain artists. I Kissed A Girl has never been a song I've loved, but it has grown on me slightly after hearing if for possibly the 200th time. Ur So Gay was much better and is sadly very under appreciated. The rest of her album is just dull and moronic though. Her lyrics don't strike me as intelligent, more like someone trying to be clever but sounding foolish.

blackmage 15th August 2008 04:41 AM

The album is pretty decent, better than I thought it would be! Though I think they've over played 'I kissed a girl" from what I can tell. I don't like the video, it could have been better. Some parts just look awkward to me.

Sakura_Genki 15th August 2008 04:46 AM

I enjoy Katy Perry's music a lot, which is unusual for me since I don't really listen to anything other than asian music. I love I Kissed a Girl to death. I play and play it on repeat for hours sometimes. I also adore the video for Ur So Gay too~

Re:★ 15th August 2008 04:57 AM

Her album's kinda ****, but her first two singles are :heart~

Hazuki 15th August 2008 05:10 AM

Oh~ I always wondered who sang that song!
My sister has been playing it for the past few days,
but I always forgot to ask her who it was.

jstar180 15th August 2008 05:35 AM

She's sexy!!! lol... i like her songs!!! song for ur gay is hilarious, but some songs are catch in the beats and words i like to sing to it... hehe

Lee_410 15th August 2008 04:08 PM

I like her!
Ur So Gay is hilarious!

Miku 15th August 2008 11:51 PM

I really like her music =)
I Kissed a Girl is freaky catchy :clapclap

drewbilation 15th August 2008 11:58 PM

she only has two good songs.

AyUta 16th August 2008 01:05 AM

I like the song now :) I think it's rather catchy.

CHE.R.RY 16th August 2008 07:06 AM

^ :rolleyes I told you xD!

danielquasar 16th August 2008 07:12 AM

I like her too. I think it's funny how people acuse her of being homophobic with her lyrics to "Ur So Gay" even saying that she is using it negatively but it's funny cause they must not be listening. She's not using Gay as a negative term. LOL It is a bit cliche but not negative. LOL

Lee_410 16th August 2008 08:13 PM

^Yes,my friend was saying that too!

xLuna&1LOVE 16th August 2008 08:25 PM

I know the song, the text is very juicy but I got so happy of that song

"I kissed the girl, and I like it!"

Vinylfantasy 18th August 2008 06:12 AM

I like her music but most of the songs that I enjoy did not make the album cut. One of the Boys is kinda ho-hum compared to her other demos.

I liked "I Kissed A Girl" a lot more once I heard some of the remixes.

darc_aqua 18th August 2008 06:38 AM

"Ur so gay" is pretty funny, the lyrics are quite genius

KuroixShiroi_Namida 21st August 2008 10:23 AM

I like her! I just discovered her after people at school was singing I Kissed a Girl LOL!

AyumiSEASONS 21st August 2008 02:27 PM

I love Katy! she's my current obsession haha.

dddaiyamondo 21st August 2008 03:54 PM

Ummmm, I was at Blockbuster with my friend last night and this little girl, like 7 years old, started singing "I Kissed A Girl" so freaking loud :lmfao Her mom had this look of horror on her face and she grabbed the girl and told her to never sing that song again :roflmao Then her mom told her to sing "squirrel" instead of "girl."

CHE.R.RY 22nd August 2008 01:34 AM

^ ROFL! Ahhh the innocence of childhood :innocent..

shannon-nonnahs 22nd August 2008 10:45 AM

I love her songs from her latest album, currently addicted to Hot N' Cold!!! (:

dddaiyamondo 22nd August 2008 03:52 PM

I really don't like her songs, but I have been waking up for the past few days with "I Kissed A Girl" stuck in my head and it's really annoying :laugh

ComatoseBunnySnatcher 23rd August 2008 12:38 AM

I think she's okay, but I think she's just a fad.

CHE.R.RY 23rd August 2008 01:35 AM

^ Aww I hope not. I like her music, even though it's a little on the bubblegum side.

Lumix 23rd August 2008 02:46 AM

Woooo, she has like that bestest voice! Really cool and original. On the other hand, the "I kissed a girl" lyrics are awkward to me.. and the PV as well. I don't know, I just really don't like these "trying-to-look-horny/sexy/wanted" celebrities. :no Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one.

CHE.R.RY 23rd August 2008 03:05 AM

^ You are definitely not the only one :no. I don't like it either, but as long as the music is good, then I try to look past that stuff.

namiie 23rd August 2008 03:42 AM

Katy Perry seems like she just LOVES attention, 24/7. Not to mention the electronic synths from I Kissed A Girl are totally ripped from Sohodolls.

Kaiouforever 23rd August 2008 09:14 AM

Not sure how I feel about the lyrics on some of her songs, but the beats are catchy.

M_aria 25th August 2008 04:52 AM

I loved that video, she's got a sort of pin-up look going on that I like. I wish they would play I Kissed A Girl in the bars in town, I want to dance to it so bad! Im tempted to buy her CD, but im going to wait to see another video from her.

I heard she dislikes Miley Cyrus,so,I like Katy more.

Definitely :laugh

I just found out where Katty Perry got her inspiration for the song o_o
From Scarlett Johanssen. Here's what she said.

Not trashing her or anything, but I hope she isn't giving herself too much credit for I Kissed A Girl. She co-wrote it with three other people.

You do know that when they list names after the song title it's not just lyric writing. They also include the names of people who wrote the music. So technically she could have written all the lyrics while the other names were involved in music.

I do know that, but I do not believe that she wrote those lyrics. And even if she did, I think that's worse because they're pretty shallow lyrics in my opinion.

I don't have a source but I know she said that she wrote the chorus at least. Said she had written the chorus like 2 years ago and brought it to Dr. Luke to turn into a song kinda deal so who knows. :P

I agree now with bondingo, the lyrics are quite shallow!

It seems every white trash girl/girl 16 and under has I Kissed a Girl as their ring tone :headache

She will have a tough time not being a one hit wonder.

bondingo 18th October 2008 05:04 AM

One Of The Boys has gone Gold in the US, and (according to Wikipedia) is being re-released on December 16 with the following tracklist. Just be warned, this may be total BS:

CD:
1. One of the Boys
2. I Kissed a Girl
3. Waking Up In Vegas
4. Thinking of You
5. Mannequin
6. Ur So Gay
7. Hot N Cold
8. If You Can Afford Me
9. Lost
10. Self Inflicted
11. I'm Still Breathing
12. Fingerprints
13. Dynamite
14. Take Me Away (featuring Miley Cyrus)
15. Crowd Control (featuring The Pussycat Dolls)
16. Nobody Loves You
17. Like A Virgin
18. White Christmas

DVD:
1. I Kissed A Girl (Music Video)
2. Thinking Of You (Music Video)
3. Ur So Gay (Music Video)
4. Hot N Cold (Music Video)
5. Like A Virgin (Live performance from 2008 MTV's Video Music Awards)
6. I Kissed A Girl (Live performance from 2008 MTV's Video Music Awards)
7. Behind the Scenes Footage"

JaysenRyan 19th October 2008 05:42 AM

HOT N COLD seems to be doing very well, so that 1-hit-wonder thing is already smashed. maybe she'll be a 2 hit wonder? lol. IDK i want to hate Katy, but her album was just too good.

Eh? :/

bondingo 20th October 2008 12:01 AM

She performed those kind of on the side during commercial breaks and it only showed clips of them. It seems odd they would include those performances though. And I think the Miley collaboration sounds even odder than the one with PCD, considering the fact that her and Miley were apparently feuding. Either way, I saw it on Wiki so it could be completely false.

Minttulatte 22nd October 2008 11:23 AM

I lolled at I Kissed A Girl when I heard it for the first time. That's pretty hilarous, although I somehow find myself liking her voice. I was like, "wow, who is that? o.o Who has that kind of voice? o.o". :p

But I'm not her fan. I Kissed A Girl is a ok song to me, but she hasn't impressed me so much I'd start to listen her for real yet. :/

dddaiyamondo 22nd October 2008 11:43 AM

Is anyone else shocked that she's not a one hit wonder? Good job, Katy. I'm proud of you.

reixminako 24th October 2008 11:30 AM

"I Kissed A Girl" is a decent song, but I don't like Katy's image and the way she portrays herself. It's just not classy at all, in my opinion. It's why I could never be a fan -- I just can't find a way to take her seriously at all.

Yum!Fruit_Salad! 25th October 2008 07:00 PM

^I seriously doubt the Miley Cyrus duet and hoping for the PCD one to be false as well.

I love Katy. When I first heard "I Kissed A Girl", I knew she would someone I watch out for. It's a rarity I pay attention to any Western artist/band for more than just one song since I listen to Japanese music so much. I wasn't expected alot from "One Of The Boys" but it's really good for a debut album. I just wish the title track wasn't there since I find it to be the worst song on the album.

Kaiouforever 26th October 2008 06:47 AM

I don't know if that track list is real. Miley Cyrus AND PCD? Guess we'll have to wait and find out.

I'm so glad Hot N Cold is doing so well! I love so many of the tracks on the album...I wish Thinking of You were a single too.

Zeke. 27th October 2008 10:53 PM

Since when were Miley and Katy fueding? They arrived at the VMA's together via the same limo. My sister tried to tell me that Katy wrote the song "I Kissed A Girl" about Miley Cyrus. What kind of bull is that? She said that Katy confirmed it in a magazine or something. What the hell? Lol.

Temari_2 1st November 2008 10:41 PM

Katy Perry was on Music Fair21 today. Here's the link for her performance http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sIzd1kapriM. This girl cannot perform live but compared to others performances I've seen her do she's improving.

chocopockymaster 26th December 2008 10:39 PM

I actually bought the Thinking of You PV from iTunes today...watched it about 5 times in a row, and had to try really hard not to cry. ;__; She looks so beautiful! I envy her ability to take her style and make it a throwback to the 40's-50's. Not everyone can pull it off, though I do wish she would go a little lighter on the makeup sometimes.

Kaiouforever 27th December 2008 01:13 AM

Yay my wish came true! Thinking of You is a single ~ <3

Yum!Fruit_Salad! 27th December 2008 02:01 AM

The reason Katy is able to pull off the 40-50s pin-up look is because her body type was more common around that time so the clothes fit her really well. Hopefully with Thinking of You being a single, people might take her more seriously than some attention grabber.

bondingo 27th December 2008 04:25 AM

I'm actually really happy to hear Thinking Of You is the next single. I heard it on the radio a few days ago and it's really grown on me since. The video was great and this one she actually can sing well live.

I think you're partly correct. Not all of us were blessed with an 18" waist, that's for sure, lol.

I am very happy with the direction her career is going. I love the PV for Thinking of You. At first I didn't want it to be a single but now I love the song. Thanks to the awesome video. :)

Bad Wolf 2nd January 2009 08:07 PM

Sorry to be a hater, but as this is an open forum I'll politely air my grievances about this musical industry boil. I can't take a woman seriously who runs around in rompers and uses offensive slang to make a hit.

Also, not even a giant pink cake wants her, as illustrated by her massive fail here:

http://i42.tinypic.com/2w3s47c.gif

Maybe if she was willing to have founded her 'career' based on an image that didn't result out of ludicrous pseudo bisexuality and omg I'm so edgy I wear underwear from the pin-up days with yellow pumps and tee hee I kiss girls but I come from a predominately Christian background and once sang Christian tunes ^_^ Will you like me yet? -- I'd think differently of her.

GRACE 2nd January 2009 11:06 PM

InoriNoUta you're not a hater, you're just expressing your dislike in Katy Perry.
I don't think she's basing her career on psuedo bisexuality, "I Kissed A Girl" is about expermentation between two girls and "UR So Gay" isn't using the word 'gay' as in being homosexaul, just as it is being now uesd like 'that's gay' is saying 'that's stupid'.
I'm not attacking you or anything, just expressing what I think Katy's real intentions are.

And that's one of the reasons why I don't like her. Anybody who propagates the use of the phrase "that's gay" doesn't get any cool points in my book.

I wrote my own version of "I Kissed a Girl", but I can't post it here. *cough*

Melon Panda 4th January 2009 02:54 AM

Now that I think about it, I don't even know the lyrics of I Kissed A Girl beyond "I kissed a girl and I liked it". I just thought the song was catchy.

Well I don't even think Yum's description of her use of the word was even correct. In Ur So Gay she is saying that her boyfriend is so gay, as in homosexual, because he portrays all these gay stereotypes, yet isn't even gay himself. Despite being gay myself, I've never actually found it offensive because I found it humorous. I just think that people shouldn't take things like that so seriously. There are plenty of gay stereotypes that are widespread throughout the gay community and she uses those to her advantage in the song to pinpoint how her boyfriend does all these "gay" things but isn't even gay himself. I could see why someone would find it offensive but I just don't find myself bothered by it. Going into the whole stereotypes thing is always too controversial, at least for this board, so I don't want to touch the issue any further.

I Kissed a Girl, on the other hand, did sort of annoy me for a bit because of the lyrics. When she admitted that she never actually has kissed a girl in real life, it seems to discredit the lyrics of the song, but I grew to like the song and the lyrics. I can easily see why people would call Katy a poser for doing this and pretending to be that, but with the way the music industry is at the moment, it almost seems like you have to really go out there in order to get attention. Whether she's widely loved or not, her attention-seeking songs did get her plenty of fame.

Kaiouforever 7th January 2009 03:27 AM

I've seen singers sing about relationships they've never had, experiences they've never had, and no one really gives a **** but suddenly everyone is pissy that she isn't really going around kissing girls? o_O Come on.

Calico 7th January 2009 03:31 AM

Oh, not saying that I Kissed a Girl isn't crazy-catchy, and that's the only thing I liked about it. Overall she just isn't my style.

And being also gay myself, I can honestly say I just don't like her. Don't care if other people do because everyone has their own reasons, and I don't really want to get into that discussion either because I've seen it beat to death in the gay community as it is.

Kaiouforever 7th January 2009 03:33 AM

I don't really feel the song has anything to do with being gay, and I feel like you don't have to be gay/straight/female whatever to enjoy it. For me, it's a fun song that's about pushing limits, I don't take it that literally (obviously, since I'm a guy xD)

Well, Katy sang 2 new songs in her MTV Unplugged album. They were Hackensack and Brick By Brick. Both ballads, Hackensack was a Fountains of Wayne cover. I loveeee Hackensack. Brick By Brick is boring though.

Katy has recorded a new song with Timbaland called "If We Ever Meet Again" and they've already done filming the music video for it. The song's gonna be on Timbaland's album called "Shock Value II"

Sorry for double posting but I think this news is important enough. :P

Katy Perry is engaged to Russell Brand!

Quote:

Katy Perry and Russell Brand are engaged, his rep confirmed to People on Wednesday (January 6). The couple’s romance began heating up in September at the MTV Video Music Awards, where the comedian served as host and the singer performed.

According to an initial report on UsMagazine.com on Tuesday, the pair got engaged five days ago, while on vacation in Jaipur, India. A source told the site that the trip to India “was his Christmas gift. She told him how much she loved Indian culture while they were eating curry in England, so he surprised her.” The source noted that Perry has “never connected with anybody like this,” adding that Brand “is super into her. She says he makes her laugh like nobody else in the world.”

Last week, while in India, Perry posted a photo of her and Brand at the Taj Mahal on Twitter and wrote, “He built this for me. Early Wednesday,” she tweeted, “So when do I start walking the streets naked singing that Alanis song?” a reference to the Alanis Morrisette song “Thank U” about the singer’s time spent in India.

News of their engagement first began circulating last week after a source told Splash News that Brand was on the hunt for an engagement ring. “Russell is searching for a jewelry designer to make up a ring in time for New Year after the pair discussed what they wanted to have,” a source said. “Russell also has the approval of Katy’s parents and everyone in the pair’s close circle knows about the engagement.”

While the world was still wondering if the two had actually gotten engaged, Britain’s The Sun reported that Brand had texted those closest to him saying, “It’s true. Much love.” A source added that Brand said, “Katy’s managed to tame me. This is it — I’m completely in love.”

Reps for Brand and Perry hadn’t responded to MTV News‘ request for comment at press time.
