================================================== =============================

Yay! Hikki finally reached the 20th thread milestone. Woot! (Sorry if the title sucks but no one wanted to make the 20th thread despite people asking in the 19th thread to make one! :P Plus I luv Shiawase ni Narou!)

AyUta 17th August 2008 03:13 AM

It's all good Shanny :D Love it ;)

Anywho, What are the current sales for HS?

Re:★ 17th August 2008 03:46 AM

Anything new happening with the Hikster? :)

Luv ~Venus~ 17th August 2008 03:52 AM

^No, but I've been addicted to HAYATOCHI-REMIX for the past couple days. (lol I just got it a couple days ago XD) OMG! I luv this remix so much more than the original. I cannot believe that I didn't know that there were two different versions of Hayatochi. :weep If been listening to the regular one for like years now. Ugh, Distance is my favortie album now. :laugh

@AyUta: She's at 978k and sold 2,090 this week. :)

omably 17th August 2008 05:38 AM

Yay to Hikki! Hmm... I just posted in what I thought was the thread but... :headache Which will be the official thread?

oops

I didn't see this after you replied to here :dead2

let's use this thread then since Shanny made a great intro unlike mine :dead2

dddaiyamondo 17th August 2008 05:57 AM

WOW, Shanny! That is a great introduction :clapclap Best post ever! GO SHANNY!

Luv ~Venus~ 17th August 2008 07:39 AM

^:laugh

I stole that from austin. XD We went through his thread so fast. He worked really hard on that so it's only far to showcase it some more. :weep

aw bless :(

but yes I do agree with you , it's 1 of the best intro's I come across in AHS

I can never do something like that at all , I wish I could

omably 17th August 2008 09:45 AM

^LOL I agree... Although there's one thing I don't like about it... With her nickname isn't there a little 'tsu' between the hi and the ki? I always thought it was like that... but yeah other then that great first post!

Anyway.. slowly awaiting a new post from Hikki regarding her upcoming english album!

dddaiyamondo 17th August 2008 03:43 PM

^Wikipedia says it's "ヒッキー", which is "hi"-small "tsu"-"ki"-line. :yes

criminal 17th August 2008 03:59 PM

I hope that Hikki is as thin as she seems in those pictures and that she stays as thin, because I don't need another yo-yo-er [WORD].

I don't see the problem with her getting thinner... she looks fine and anyone who says she looked sickly must be exaggerating or forgets what she looked like before 2003. And she's always going to struggle with her weight because of her medication.

Luv ~Venus~ 17th August 2008 04:14 PM

^medication? Talking about from her ovian cancer? DDD: If I remember correctly, when Hikki first started out, she kinda chubby. Sorta like how she was when she promoting FOL. :yes You can look at her first 3 videos and see wut I mean. Seriously. So Hikki's always had ups and downs with her weight. I think she's back to her Exodus wieght.

when you said medication , are you talking about the ones that she has to take after she underwent operation to cure her sickness a few years back ?

cos I know some medication that you take can led to weight gain

Yes, exactly, that sort of medication can lead to weight gain. And in addition, it's very hard to shed those pounds from it.

I think people are forgetting what Hikki looked like during the majority of her career... this is from 2002:

not really cancer but I think she was sick with some sorta ovary tumor back then ? I'm not very sure

Ayumi27 17th August 2008 05:15 PM

I hope shes OK now. No sickness or weight problems

dddaiyamondo 17th August 2008 06:11 PM

I'm not sure if she's still sick... but I think the weight is hard for her to get off. However she's been looking thinner lately (like even around the time of HS release) than she did last year.

cloud♥honey 17th August 2008 06:38 PM

Great title, Shanny. Shiawase ni Narou is my second favorite song from DEEP RIVER album. <3 I hope she doesn't disappears for months, I need new stuff. I already got over and over HEART STATION. :(

Eh? Did you even read my post?

kaede 17th August 2008 09:22 PM

I have a question, maybe someone here can help me :)
I'm in US now (in Philadelphia) and I wonder in which shop can I find Utada's CDs (Exodus for example)?

sugarbasil 17th August 2008 09:28 PM

^^You can find Exodus in just about any store that sells CDs (Sam Goody, Best Buy, Circuit City, Target, Suncoast, Walmart, ect.). It's usually in the Reggae section. :laugh

And I think I'm a little slow (a little???? Haha, try A LOT) on the updates. What's this about Ne-yo and Hikki colaborating in 2007??? Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuggggggg. :no :no :no :no :no :headache How did I miss that one!?? Can someone upload that? As much as I love Hikki, I HATE Ne-yo. :/

LOL I saw Exodus in the Reggae section at my local Best Buy too.

The song with Ne-yo is called 'Do you' and was released at the end of 2007 as a digital single in Japan.

Ayumi27 18th August 2008 12:09 AM

Yes, it was a duet remix of Ne-Yo's song "Do You", released exclusivly in Japan as digital single... I don't like it a lot

AyUta 18th August 2008 12:19 AM

I thought the song was rather nice. :) I didn't think the collaboration would turn out very good, but I liked it.

Erm, I don't know if it's just the area I live in, but I've tried just about every store that carries cds has and could not find Utada anywhere. I once found her at Walmart and Barnes and Noble, but that was when the cd had first come out. I had had to order it offline in the end :/...

AyUta 18th August 2008 12:43 AM

^ I don't think we ever looked in the reggae section though. I was under the impression that she was always under dance, so that's where we usually looked, remember? We should try the reggae section next and maybe she'll come up.

CHE.R.RY 18th August 2008 12:58 AM

^ But I would ask too, and they'd say they didn't have her. Plus, I tried looking in all of the sections except for oldies :dead2.

AyUta 18th August 2008 01:00 AM

^ Oh yeah, I forgot about that x_x; Stupid states :laugh

Hm...Well, I don't know what to say about that. I live in the Midwest, but I wouldn't think it would be a big deal. My guess is that if they don't have the CD it's because it wasn't selling enough, so they got rid of it. Did you check Best Buy? I KNOW that all the Best Buys in my area still carry it, though, yeah, make SURE to look in the reggae section. I thought it might have been in the international/world section, but it's not. :/ But if you can't even find it there, then I dunno. :shrug

And can someone upload the "Do You" song for me? I listened to the preview on Hikki's website (that thing is NOT updated in the least :no), and I eek, really didn't like it, but I'd at least like to hear the whole thing. Plus, one of my best friends LOVES Ne-Yo, so I want to show him this. XD

EDIT: okay, well the Best Buy website says they still carry it in stores. Apparently, they also sell HEART STATION as well for only $20. O_O That's pretty cool and damn cheap. It's $30.99 on yesasia! I think I'm going to run over there tonight and pick it up. :P Oh, nevermind. You have to buy it online. :/

Yeah like I said, I had to order it off the internet in the end cuz I couldn't find it (I looked in all the sections too). I think (like you said) that it just wasn't selling so they stopped carrying it in my area. It sux big time though :(...

Ah well, I got it in the end so that's all that matters lol xD! I just hope this time around that Utada gets more promotion and support from her record company.

dddaiyamondo 18th August 2008 02:30 AM

I found Exodus in the dance section at Borders on the mainland. I didn't think it was too rare.

Keiichi_JPU 18th August 2008 03:08 AM

this is my dream:

Hikki's next English album will be well-promoted and popular enough you can actually buy it LIKE A NORMAL ALBUM in any normal music store in the USA and Europe! And other non-Asia areas of course!

For me, the closest store where they sell Exodus is 2 hours (and 40 euro's worth of public transport) away, and they only sell Exodus there because it's American. I really have to buy all my other j-pop online, there's no other option :(

(my dream gets very unreal here: maybe Hikki will even become popular enough to have her Japanese albums also sold here like normal CD's! that would be heaven)

sora-kara 18th August 2008 05:41 AM

^you should just move here.
all of that is a reality for me 8)
and only 20 minutes and $2.40 on a bus away.

CoriKaru 19th August 2008 05:54 AM

I had no idea a new thread had been made being that the previous one hadn't reached 500 posts yet. Bizarre.

Well I actually just saw a commercial on the television and there's this "new" artist in America whose name is Karina and the title of her first Album is "First Love".

I found it interesting.

Melon Panda 20th August 2008 12:17 AM

Will the English album still be made with Island Records?

Keiichi_JPU 20th August 2008 01:36 AM

^ You mean Hikki's new English album right?

yep I guess she's still at Island. She's still listed as one of Islands artist on their website. And the "laterst" Hikki news there is from the "Do You" duet with Ne-Yo, so assuming that track will also be on her new album, Hikki is still at Island.

@sora-kara: Spoiled Hikki fan, is spoiled! ^__^ good for you though. I'd love that lol, I still really want to have First Love, Distance and Deep River!! I'm not a real Hikki fan unless I own those albums XD

Luv ~Venus~ 20th August 2008 05:24 AM

OMFG x 970466584

You guys prolly wouldn't give a crap but oh well. I was watching Morning Express with Robin Made (I luv CNN okay! :heart) and when they were going to CM they played "You Make Me Want To Be A Man"! OMG! I freaked out and started singing to it. :laugh I was seriously liked shocked and just amazed. This is like the 3rd time I caught something featuring Hikki on tv and like the second time they played an Hikki song on her show. :heart :heart :heart She or someone must really luv Exodus. They played Devil Inside and YMMWTBAM on her show...yeah, they most like Exodus. :bgiggle I might just be a matter of time until they play Easy Breezy..if they haven't already. If I end up catching them paly any song of hers, I'm seriously gonna freak out big time. :lmfao

This only gives me hope that when she releases her second album that Robin will promote the album on her show like she do with most artists (like today she promoted Ice Cube's new album on there.). Also, I hope that VH1 will feature her on their "Artists You Ought To Know" segment. Seriously, that would be great great promotion for her since just about everyone that is featured on there become like really well known and great album sells. Amy Winehouse and Duffy were featured on there and they are pretty much luved her.....well, I can't say for sure of Amy now since she's been dubbed as a bad girl. Duffy is well liked her tho. :) There's another girl who is well popular her too but I can't remember her name. She had song that had this line: "I can write you a love song, if you ask for it." I did like that song too. XD

Spoiler:
Sorry, If I'm freaking you guys out by my Hikki fandom! ^_^'

OMG! I know right! I will have those three albums before her 10th anniversary comes up tho especally First Love (my fave hikki album forever). I already brought Exodus and her SC from someone...so Woot, to my first Hikki albums. :shimmy (I so might make a thread for it. lol)

@Cori: It was at 500 posts (actually 504 posts) but the mods deleted some of the posts and closed the thread since a new thread was made.

dddaiyamondo 20th August 2008 05:47 AM

^That's really cool that it was on, Shanny. Very cool, I remember not too long ago you posting something similar about CNN. Awesome :thumbsup

OMG YOU GUYS! HEART STATION actually WENT UP recently! I'm so happy! It was at #60 this week (last week it was #71) and it sold 2,254 units!!! Total sales so far is 981,134. ~19k more to go :weep

Luv ~Venus~ 20th August 2008 06:08 AM

^Yea, the last time they played Devil Inside which I was speechless...because I couldn't believe they played a song of hers.

Anyway, I'm happy that she finally reached the 980k point. I hope she can keep selling in the 1k-2k range for the next few weeks. My faith in this album crossing the million mark is strong again. :D This will be too cool if two female artists were to crooss the million point. Like when was that the last time that happened? What 2004? DDDD:

Hikki question: In the Hayatochi-Remix, is she saying, "Oh my God!" "Just Leave me alone?" in the background? DDDD: I have been luving this song for the past few days and I still can't make out what she is saying in the background.

That's usually what I hear in the background myself. Good choice on a song to love lol.

CoriKaru 20th August 2008 07:21 AM

Anybody remember that sears Commercial that was airing like 2-3 years ago that would play the end part of Utada's "WINGS" songs? It's not actual vocals but the part that lasts for a while at the very end. I did hear that Utada herself sampled that exact part that was in her song so the commercial may not have had anything to do with Utada, with them sampling it as well from the original artist.

LOL! Ikr! The thing is, I didn't know that Hayatochiri had a remix until a few days ago. :lmfao I was on limewire dling a few of her songs and like I saw Hayatochi-remix and without really thinking about the difference of the two, I dled it thinking it was the original version. When I listened to it on my ipod, I was like, "What is this? Hayatochiri doesn't sound like this! :irked" I looked at it again and saw that it said remix....but it still didn't click in fully to me that this was the remix until I looked it up on her wiki.theppn page. I was like, "OMG! I can't believe I'm just now discovering this! :embrassed" The odd thing about is that like I kinda knew about but didn't know about. :laugh Like, on her Distance wikipedia page, they tell us the difference between the titles (i.e. It's called Hayatochiri but she remixed and renamed as Hayatochi-Remix) but I overlooked it I guess because I always thought I was listening to the remix since it's actually a full version of Intrelude from FL. DDD:

@AyUta: LOL! Thankies! I'm glad I discoverd the remix tho because the original is okay but I don't listen to it all the time. Sorta like how I don't listen to Kotobani Naranai Kimochi and Kettobase all the time either. DDD: This remix made me luv Hikki's R&B stuff like 86968809096 times more again. lol I really luv the R&B tone to it plus her vocals. Her vocals were really on point and shows off her vocal quailty during her younger years.

I only saw the Burlington Coat Factory CM that had a sample of Wings in it. I never did see the Sears CM. Lucky guys!

Those were the days huh......

Anticipation for HEART STATION was at an all time high with posters thrown around everywhere. Performances here, performances there. Utada in her puffy clothes all tanned and the like. People praying that "Boku wa Kuma" would be on the Album. People speculating that HEART STATION could possibly reach 1 Million in sales.

*Sigh*

Yeah, I remember those days.

http://ds.ign.com/articles/725/725433p1.html

Here's an article done in 2006 about Utada's Tetris Tournament. I don't know how I feel about how they said, "She didn't live up to the academic scene." I didn't realize she had anything to live up, not to mention she quit of her own accord because of her career. It's not as if she failed. Anyway, did you guys know that Utada may possibly be viewed as a "MILF" someday, and that legitimate sources actually use the term "MILF"?

Ha.

Rofl I always loved that xD! It's just so random and unexpected. And yes, that's what she's saying :yes.

@CoriKaru: MILF?! I didn't know what it meant but I googled it. Do you mean what I think you mean? and why? she's not even a mother.

Haha. No no my friend. In the article that I posted a link to above, they referred to her possibly being that in the future and so I was referring back to that statement in a bewildered manner because of the fact that they even said that in the article. Not that it's an insult to Utada, more rather it kind of being inappropriate and unprofessional.

WTF is going on in this thread??? :rolleyes

Luv ~Venus~ 21st August 2008 02:27 PM

Ew. Ew. Ew. Hikki....as a MILF. Ew. Ew. Ew. :shakehead

I can't even see her having a child...nor having being pregnant. DDDD: Maybe that was one of the reasons why her and Kazzy got divorced. DDD: He shouldn't have pushed the issue about them having children so soon. :cry I imagine that she would have had a girl tho. :lmfao

:bgiggle Ikr! She's talking about how this guy doesn't know how much she loves him and all of sudden she's telling him to leave her alone. :laugh It's catchy tho. lol This only makes me wonder why Hikki never released at least one remix album. T_T It would have been hot stuff seriously.

Still?
That's impressive! But she deserves it. Each of her studio albums is even better than the previous one.
:luv2 I love her haha

ayuayu798 21st August 2008 10:04 PM

YAY hikki!!

pommy48 21st August 2008 10:10 PM

let's see, it was released in Taiwan on 3/28/08....that means she's been charting for about 5 months!

Melon Panda 21st August 2008 11:25 PM

My internet's been off this week, so I haven't really been up to date. I have to ask - has HEART STATION hit a million yet?

Luv ~Venus~ 21st August 2008 11:28 PM

^No! :weep It's at 981k now. So she has less than 19k to go. She actually went up this week so that's a good sign. I hope she stays in the 2k range for the next few weeks. *crosses fingers*

ooooh I'm sorry >__< thanks for explaining.

And she's still in the top 20 in Taiwan, unbelievable! maybe I can actually make my Chinese friend listen to her now.. she's very fond of Taiwan lol.

(btw people: It's the Japense Music top 20 in Taiwan of course, to prevent any misconceptions)

pommy48 22nd August 2008 12:59 AM

ah sorry, it's the japanese/korean top 20

HS posters are still up in record stores in taiwan, there's a record store in the taipei airport, and they had HS playing over the speakers, and about 3 HS posters just hanging from boxes~

Luv ~Venus~ 22nd August 2008 01:00 AM

Is it the album that's still in the top 20 or the song that's still in the top 20? DDD:

the album is still charting in taiwan~

Yes, it must pass the million mark, and not eventually, NOW haha... I'm actaully convincing some j-pop casual listeners here in my country to buy Heart Station (and Guilty) from CDJapan so their copies count towards Oricon :D

Melon Panda 22nd August 2008 02:05 AM

I know it's a matter of taste, but I wish consumers would quit flocking to compilation albums and give HEART STATION a buy. It's currently the highest selling studio album of the year, which is nice, but I echo the sentiment that it needs to hit a million now.

Passing the million mark would be great.
But Heart Station has already another achievement: being the only Hikki album to surpass the sales of its precesor... So now, haters can't tell her popularity is declining...

Luv ~Venus~ 22nd August 2008 02:29 AM

^I don't get why people are saying she's even losing popularity. DDD: Do they actually look at her sales? Seriously, sure her album sales aren't as outrageous as they use to be but her sales are still steady and aren't really slipping that much. With Hikki, you really can't tell how she's gonna sale. Sometimes, it's high and sometimes it's low and sometimes it's inbetween.

Beauty4123 22nd August 2008 02:32 AM

it's just the sales right now. back then, i'm sure the sales were better. now their declining. that has to be at least one half of the reason why utada's music dosen't sell as much as it used to. she's definately not losing popularity. if she did, HS wouldn't have outsold UB and her singles wouldn't even get passed 40k or something.

Seriously :O! I mean, look at Hikki's sales! She's still kickin' alright.

Ayumi27 22nd August 2008 02:55 AM

The problem with some Hikki fans it that they thought she would still sell outrageously like with First Love or Distance, and it's impossible to mantain those numbers not only for Utada, but also for any japanese artist. But, not selling 4 o 5 millon copies do mean declining sales, not declining popularity. Also, CD's doesn't sell that well anymore worldwide. I mean, Madonna's new album has sold 3 million so far and it's considered a hit album. 10 years ago, it would be considered her biggest failure.

But who cares? Heart Station is great and has one of the most sucessful tracks of 2007!

CHE.R.RY 22nd August 2008 03:02 AM

^ I completely agree....and this is due largely to people being able to d/l albums either off iTunes or other d/ling sites (no to mention people getting burned copies or just d/ling the albums illegally).

CoriKaru 22nd August 2008 03:41 AM

The thing about her singles is this. Look at "Flavor of Life" and "Beautiful World/Kiss & Cry". They were brand new singles and sold very well.

Now look at "HEART STATION/Stay Gold" and "Prisoner of Love".

"HEART STATION/Stay Gold" was released A SECOND before the Album was released, therefore people waited for the Album and "Prisoner of Love" was a recut. These are the only reasons those 2 Singles didn't do amazing. One was needless at the point and another wasn't anything Brand New.

We'll see once Utada eventually releases a Brand New Japanese Single where she really stands in Single Sales because the last 2 aren't really anything to go buy.

That's true, i guess Hikki should have released Heart Station/Stay Gold around November, and Prisoner of Love the same week as the album.
Anyway, even Boku wa Kuma, which is kind of a children's song, was sucessful and despite not hitting #1, it sold the same as Ayu's Glitter/Fated!

Indeed. I felt like bringing up "Boku wa Kuma" in that list of not outstanding Single Sells, but then I remembered it did actually sell well for some reason. Still surprises me. I mean it surpassed "Passion", I think it even surpassed "Keep Tryin'" (I'll have to check on that). Now that's a crime. But there you go. Even that sold well. If that could sell well, then imagine how "HEART STATION/Stay Gold" and "Prisoner of Love" would have sold if they were properly released.

Ayumi27 22nd August 2008 03:58 AM

I just checked. Boku wa Kuma did surpassed Keep Tryin' for like 22,000 copies... Still, Keep Tryin', Passion, Be my Last & This is Love should have been more succesful than what they were. I love them all. I also like Boku wa Kuma, i mean, it's unique and edgier than other songs, but it's still a children's song for me.

dddaiyamondo 22nd August 2008 04:07 AM

Who is saying Hikki is losing popularity? If anything, Hikki is dominating this year and 2007. Hikki's popularity is bigger now than its been since 2003. People are seeing her as being relevant again, which is great.

Keiichi_JPU 25th August 2008 12:38 AM

question: is Do You (with Utada) featured on any of Neyo's albums? I just found out the Do You version without Utada is included on his 2007 album. But the Do You with Utada doesn't seem to be included on his new 2008 album...

I really hope hikki won't include the song on her album >__> I've always wondered why that song is so boring, but now I found out Neyo had already released the song before Utada sang along to it.

that also gives me great hope for Hikki's new album, because for a while there I was starting to think the entire album would be as boring as Do You..

but it won't be :D

ayumisrael 25th August 2008 01:14 AM

If there are 2 artists that are dominating this year those are EXILE and namie.
Even though if they are doing it with compilation albums their success is still enormous (also compared to hikki) because hikki remains consistent, but EXILE and namie are the ones who got hugely popular lately let alone the profit they bring which hikki doesn't even bring half of it =\.

hikki is just relevant as always.

Though namie's album is a compilation I'm still glad that she could get above some boy bands albums and has success.
EXILE's compilation has some songs I like but I don't like most.

Amrai-chan 25th August 2008 08:06 AM

Finally dropping into the Hikki thread. I'm glad HEART STATION has done so well. I think it's a great album. I hope it hits the million mark.

I think the thing about Hikki is that she doesn't have big highs and lows. Namie and EXILE are huge this year, but where will they be next year? :shrug Hikki is always consistently popular!

I gotta agree on that, even though I'm a die-hard Namie fan, Hikki must me the most consistent artist in Japan, and that's hard because she doesn't release albums every year like Ayu does, and still, people don't lose interest in her music :D

The total opposite.
It's not hard for hikki since she doesn't release a lot of stuff every year, therfore the japanese people don't get tired of her quick.
The Japanaese get tired off things that they see too much of them.
It's hard for ayu since she's being exploded with her avex trax management, like kumi, BoA and other artists from that company.
Not only them, ayaka, YUI, yuna ito release in a year more than hikki and they are not popular like they were a year ago.

Ayumi27 25th August 2008 05:58 PM

Well, that's true, but for some japanese artists, it's hard to make a huge comeback after a short hiatus.
But I have the impression that EMI Japan gives her more creative freedom than Avex to its artists. I mean, she's not pushed constantly to release new material, or at least she has enough power to deny to...

Just because an artist doesn't put out an album every year doesn't guarantee success. Hikki has always been consistent, even when she was releasing like crazy from FIRST LOVE to DEEP RIVER :yes

AyUta 25th August 2008 07:01 PM

^ Agreed, hikki has always been a consistent artist, and she never seems to lose popularity. Japan just loves that girl.

CoriKaru 25th August 2008 08:56 PM

You can also look at it this way to, concerning the whole, "Not releasing a lot so therefore you remain popular because of that".

It can also be risky for an artist to wait long periods to release material because by the time they come back, no one's there waiting anymore, or they've lost some of their fan base, or everybody has moved on to the next big thing.

So it's not guaranteed to be a success just because you don't release on a regular basis. Give Utada some credit.

Exactly, Japanese artists are constantly putting out new singles to remain fresh in the public's minds. Hikki is actually being very risky by doing so few releases.

Luv ~Venus~ 25th August 2008 10:06 PM

Hikki has been in the public eye and releasing for the whole 10 years she's been an artist.

Timeline:

1998: Release of Automatic/Time Will Tell
1999: Release of MOWY/First Love (album/single)/Zepp Tokyo Concert/Release of ATY/UH1
2000: Release of Wait and See/Time Limit-For You/Summer Bohiemian 2000 Tour
2001: Release of CYKAS/Distance/UH2/Final Distance/UH Unplugged/Traveling
2002: Release of Hikari/Sakura Drops/UH3/Deep River
2003: Release of Colors/UH Live Screaming
2004: Release of Single Collection/Hikaru no 5/Exodus/Dareka no Negai
2005: Release of Passion/BML
2006: Release of Keep Trying/Ultra Blue/UU06/UH4/Boku Wa Kuma
2007: Release of Flavor of Life/BW-K&C/Stay Gold/Do You
2008: Release of HS-SG/Heart Station/POL

I think her only long period was doing 2004/2005 and 2008. So she's been in our face but not as pushy or much as Ayu or Namie or BoA (and I guess kuu but we know her situation)

Ayumi27 25th August 2008 11:06 PM

Well, 2003 was a very empty year for her too
