Brandy Rayana Norwood (born February 11, 1979), known professionally as Brandy, is an American R&B and pop singer-songwriter, record producer, fashion model, actress, and film producer. Born in McComb, Mississippi and discovered by Chris Stokes when she was a member of a youth singing group, Norwood released her self-titled debut album in 1994 at the age of fifteen.

Following a major success with Grammy Award-winning "The Boy Is Mine," a duet with singer Monica and her second album Never Say Never in 1998, a series of hit records established her position as one of the most successful of the new breed of urban R&B female vocalists to emerge in the mid-to late 1990s. The RIAA ranks Norwood as one of the best-selling female artists in American music history, having sold over 10.5 million copies of her four studio albums in the United States and over 25 million albums worldwide, to date. Additionally, she has won over 100 awards as a recording artist.

While maintaining a recording career Norwood also gained fame for starring in several film and television productions, including popular UPN sitcom Moesha (1996-2001), a supporting role in the 1998 horror sequel I Still Know What You Did Last Summer and starring roles in a 1997 version of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella and Double Platinum, two of television's highest rated special programs.

I'm so excited! Right Here (Departed) and Fall are just amazing! Apparately Natasha Bedingfiled is recording a song with Brandy. I wonder how that will sound!

LISTEN TO "RIGHT HERE (DEPARTED)"

Lee_410 18th August 2008 01:58 AM

She'll release new stuff!Awesome!

voltron 18th August 2008 02:22 AM

^^ Fall was co-written with Natasha Bedingfield, I'm not sure they're singing anything together.

I also like the list, but it's definitely secondary to fall and right here (departed)--(plus i LOVE rodney jerkins/darkchild!!!)

b-rocka is back and bringing the heat for this new album!

Kobayashiwoof 18th August 2008 03:51 AM

I love brandy!, she was an awesome chick in the 90's. I like her new single leak, I hope her comeback will be successful

kirei_ayumi 18th August 2008 04:43 AM

ah~ I remember Brandy. it is good she is finally releasing something new for a change. I hope her songs have a similar composition to Full Moon, I love that song! Right Here sounds great. Dark Child is awesome, he also worked with the Spice Girls.

bondingo 18th August 2008 05:40 AM

Brandy has a wonderful voice. I really do like her as an artist. Never Say Never was just a great album, and What About Us? is one of my all time favorite songs.

PoetGirl 19th August 2008 03:39 AM

i like her!!! and new song is amazing

drewbilation 21st August 2008 09:47 PM

I used to be so into her, but I lost interest when she went on hiatus or w/e.

I do like her new song, though. it's pretty good. <3

Re:★ 23rd August 2008 03:16 AM

Right Here (Departed) entered the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs at #70 last night! And Monica's new song is eight positions lower. Do I see another rivalry between fans happening again? :o

dddaiyamondo 23rd August 2008 03:59 AM

Didn't she kill someone and get away with it?

Always with the smart comments. She "got away with it" because she was totally honest about the whole thing and never denied it wasn't her fault. She was driving thespeed limit on the freeway when cars infront of her suddenly braked. She didn't notice until it was too late and crashed into the two cars infront. It was an accident. She had tests done and she didn't have any alchohol or drugs and wasn't using her cell or anything. Accidents happen every day. People made a bigger deal out of it because of who she is. Brandy even offered to pay for the damages, the police considered getting her done for manslaughter, but in the end decided to let her go because she was so "fantastically cooperative" with them. She could've been openly denying it was her fault to try to save her career but she didn't, and that deserves respect.

PSYCHEDELICOdust 27th August 2008 03:06 AM

Afrodisiac is a fantastic album :O

Luv ~Venus~ 27th August 2008 03:15 AM

^I've never heard that album. In fact, I didn't even know she released it. I stopped at Full Moon which was an awesome awesome album. I'm sad for her because I feel her music is so underrated now. Her last few stuff barely got played on BET. >_> I really hope she heavily promotes this single and her new album. :yes

I would definitely suggest it, it's very solid. I gave a listen to the new single and it's strong itself although it's very "Brandy" I have to say.

dddaiyamondo 27th August 2008 04:14 AM

I karaoked to "the boy is mine" the other day, SO FUN! What a great song to do karaoke to :yes I love Brandy!

Princess Sohee 27th August 2008 04:15 AM

Really used to love brandy. lost respect for her after the murder unforunately.. How can she be so selfish> and take another life. it\'s one of most despicable things.

♥ you! 27th August 2008 04:51 AM

Does anyone remember her show moesha? ;3

I've always liked Brandy, it sucks how it takes her FOREVER to release albums though. All of her albums had a four year gap!:weep Except Full Moon and Afrodisiac which was two years :<

Princess Sohee 27th August 2008 05:49 AM

Catch moesha sometimes on repeat TV. shame about murder, changes everything you know?

Brandy never murdered anyone. Murder is not accidental.

^STUNNING AS USUAL! :heart

I'm really considering buying this album. I really luff Departed. I just hoping she'll give us a CD+DVD version. I think I'm asking too much tho....:weep It's ashame tho....it hasn't even appeared on 106&Park's countdown yet. WTF much! >_> Great meaning and great song yet no luff for it on BET's highest rated program. 106&Park = :yawn

Re:★ 17th October 2008 09:34 PM

Tracklisting
1 Right Here (Departed)
2 Long Distance
3 Human
4 Torn Down
5 Fall
6 Locked in Love
7 Definition
8 Camouflage
9 Shattered Heart
10 Piano Man
11 Warm It Up with Love
12 Acapella
13 True
14 After the Flood

For some reason I really love this tracklist! I have no idea why, though. Oh, and the album's been pushed back to December 9th for 'finishing touches'. Branbran's now up against 50 Cent and Ciara, so I'm expecting around a #3 debut.

Long Distance leaked onto the internet a few days ago. It's going to be the second single to promote Human. It's really beautiful, ballads really are Brandy's calling, just listen to Have You Ever. :) I think it'll do really well and people with lovers overseas in Iraq will probably feel it. (Is that too controvsersial here?)

Edit: Oh and here's a cover I made for Human to make Brandy actually look more Human, rather than a plastic Barbie doll. :bchuck

Oh thanks for sharing the tracklist. Luv ~Venus~ the song is on the countdown now.

Kingdom 2nd November 2008 09:17 AM

i heard "Right Here (Departed)" on the radio earlier today and i really, really like it (though i had no idea who sang it!)

i am not really a fan of brandy because of her attitude/personality but i will def. be trying this album out.

drewbilation 22nd November 2008 08:47 PM

album samples are out.

Dreamin Startin 23rd November 2008 12:14 AM

I like Brandy and all, but on this new album cover for "Human" she looks hideous. :tired A better picture should have been used.

voltron 9th December 2008 02:47 PM

So nobody has said anything about the new album yet, even though it leaked around Thanksgiving (and is out today!!).

I love it. After E=MC2, I think it is the best album of the year (which admittedly has been an awful year for music).

My favorite tracks:
Right Here (Departed)
Piano Man
Camouflage
Warm it Up (With Love)
The Definition
Fall (though I kinda like the leaked version better)

Overall, a very coherent and consistent effort. I wish there were more club bangers, but, it's definitely an honest album that is worth picking up.

You can listen to the standard version online at MTV's The Leak.

UPS came with my copy of "Human" while I was gone, so I won't get to listen until tomorrow I guess. =(

I loved the previews, so I know I'll love the whole album, though. I'm excited! <3

PoetGirl 11th December 2008 03:17 AM

cover is like the best cover ever imo. i love it a lot. and album is really really great. but i think warm it up with love or the definition would be better singles

*-_Ayu-fan_-* 12th December 2008 01:53 PM

which place is Brandy Now with Human ??

drewbilation 12th December 2008 07:14 PM

^ estimates say she'll sell between 70-80k and come in at no. 6.

she performed "Right Here (Departed)" and "Long Distance" on The Early Show earlier this week, also.

CoriKaru 16th December 2008 08:48 PM

Ugh. I hate that Album Cover.

I used to like Brandy when she was Big. I don't now what happened to her. She just took too many years off and lost her relevance. Then when she did come back she was all skinny and awkward because of her having had anorexia if she still didn't at the time.

voltron 18th December 2008 01:32 PM

So "Human" debuted at number 15 on the Billboard 200 (main album chart).

She is the 3rd highest debut this week, behind Musiq Soulchild and Common. I think it's pretty ridiculous that an artist of her caliber cannot chart higher than those two. Even Enya came in two positions higher for a CD that did not debut this week. It's easily better than the other albums that charted higher than it, but the US just doesn't really have any love for Brandy.

By comparison, 2004's Afrodesiac debuted at #3.
