wow
thats actually true

ayu sold pretty good in this 10th anniversary!!

AC saved the day xDDD

roanmy 11th December 2008 10:30 AM

Actually, it looks like Ayu sold less than all of the music acts on that list, however, she generated the second most income or something... (Ithink sales in 10000s are on the right and earnings in million/billion yen on the left Can anyone who knows japanese a little better help out? :P

lol at Exile's total. Good for everyone else on the list except Kobukuro. I don't dislike them, but I find them to be very overrated.

I would say that to us it was a slow release year because of a lack of new material but in terms of actual releases this list includes the release of: Guilty, Mirrorcle World, 2 Remix albums, CDL 08/09, Arena Tour '07 and A-Complete. As far as I can tell, the only other artist in the top 5 to release that many things this year is Exile.

That's correct. She actually sold less than all the artists on the list comparing singles and albums but she released more products than they did. Releasing 2 concert dvds I'm sure is the only thing that ultimately put her ahead of Namie since concert dvds are the most expensive of the products to buy and still Namie is only very slightly behind in total sales and did better in the amount of units sold.

4ever*ayu 11th December 2008 11:34 AM

^thx for the heads-up Sunshine!

this year is EXILE's year..absolute win over other artist, :D! congrats them..

and ayu still the AVEX Most Profitable Queen-bee of the year!!

ayu-fan 11th December 2008 11:34 AM

wonder if she could maintain her position next year.

in the past 2 years ayu's income mostly came from best albums, while in the next year she wouldn't have any more best thingy XD

I wouldn't really say that since this measures who had the highest sales, not who had the highest profits. (the two are actually different^_^) I would say that Namie was Avex's most profitable female this year (and probably easily so).

She sold more total units than Ayu and just barely is behind her in total sales with only 3 releases (Play Tour DVD, Best Fiction, 60s70s80s) compared to Ayumi's 7 releases (Guilty, A Complete, 2 remix albums, Mirrorcle World, 2 concert dvds). All of those things required promotional expenses from Avex and really the only one of the things on Namie's list that much promo expenditure would need to be done is Best Fiction since 60s70s80s bill was pretty much footed by Vidal Sassoon. So yeah, actually I would say that Namie was quite easily the best money maker for Avex this year when you take those factors into account.

Watch Avex come up with A Ultimate or something. :)

But still ayu gave them more profit than namie.
And the thing about the compilation albums can be said about other 3 from the list.
EXILE released 3 compilations, B'z released 2 and ayu and namie only 1.
Excluding those compilations non of them would be that high =P

(And for the record AC sold better than EXILE ENTERTAINMENT BEST)..

And for Ayu, yay! even with small number of release she's winning folks!

Congrats to Ayu!!!!

Omg I hope they don't call it that, "A" Ultimate would make me cringe! "An Ultimate" is proper English :yes... Not that I'm stickler for English grammar, but just THAT particular piece of grammar lol!

jbrat2219 11th December 2008 04:28 PM

Looks like Ayu sold well after all... These figures don't include how much money she generated on tour does it? If not, I can see why she hasn't beat EXILE, they're a beast this year.... I heard they weren't all that famous before certain collaborations with other famous artists such as Kumi?

v3lun420 11th December 2008 04:39 PM

EXILE was famous that I can say. But just like Namie, they also have their ups and downs.
Yay.... congrats to AYu, I am very glad that she is no. 2 (This is off topic, but whenever I heard no. 2, it reminds me of BONO in SOuthpark)

I just explained why profit and sales are different things. Ayumi had total higher money earnings because she had 7 releases, 2 of which were dvds (which is what was able to give her a money edge because they are more expensive). Whereas Namie had only 3 releases only one of which that really had any promo costs for Avex at all and very minor production costs compared to Ayumi's releases. So, in reality Namie=Avex's most successful and profitable artist this year. (for women at least, no one can touch Exile this year^_^)

No, she is second in EARNINGS. She is last on the list in sales. Which means that a) she released more products this year than everyone but Exile and b) some of her releases were more expensive to buy than the other artists.

sidenote: I wish Arashi had released a best album this year. It's odd to not see the group that holds three positions on the yearly top 10 singles chart not on this list. (including the top two positions)

Ayu's promo this year actually wasn't small, I mean 7 releases - that isn't a small number. But they were mostly fluff releases (extending an already released track for a single, two remix albums, a best album etc), so she lacked in new material, but certainly not material in general. The highest profit generator this year had to have been Namie; she had the least amount of investment from Avex with the highest return - thats how you measure profit.

amorphose 15th December 2008 09:52 PM

Am I the only person not even remotely interested in EXILE and that cannot comprehend why they are popular? XD

Yeah but that's the cost of producing the product itself. Stuff like advertisements, tissue packets, putting up posters everywhere seems to have been toned down, that's why i'm guessing they managed to save some costs here and there. I'm surprised also that namie was not more profitable than ayu, but at least that's what the figures tell us. I'm guessing A Complete was a whopper profit generator but so was Best Fiction... It's weird.

Exile just pawned everybody... It's incredible. I'm not interested in them also but i've never given their music a shot so i don't know how good they are.

That's what I've been saying though - Namie was the highest profit generator for Avex (other than Exile), not Ayu. This list does not show profit.

DA1SUK1DAY01691 23rd December 2008 09:33 AM

Wow, that's amazing. I'm sure EXILE will be on top for a while, too.

Avex must be REALLY happy right now to have at least 33.57 BILLION yen flowing in (an "oku" is 100 million, right?). That's not including their concerts, either.
