^ Thanks alot! Wow first day sales index for GREEN/Days is almost enough to cover two days sales for MW X]

Oops i missed this thread just now D:

KarenPang 17th December 2008 10:25 AM

that's pretty good for the 1st day , well done

inspire_rmx 17th December 2008 10:26 AM

Thanks for the great news!! This is really much higher than expected. i hope that it will break the 180,000copies mark this week. finger crossed ^^

AyuGAME 17th December 2008 10:32 AM

so we will multiply it by 1.75?
i will edit the first post...

yeah...its really HIGH!!!
we can put a big hope for this single...

jiarongisme 17th December 2008 10:34 AM

You only multiply the amount by 1.7 when it comes to albums. :)

Wow, great sales. It sold better than MW by a lot for the first day. :D

Ayumiko 17th December 2008 10:35 AM

wow...that's really high! Didn't expect that. Hope it won't drop too much like it usually does.

~ayu-cake~ 17th December 2008 10:36 AM

Yeeeey ^___^
Another #1 :P

I'm not surprised.. but still :)

sanzo2011 17th December 2008 10:42 AM

I was hoping a mirrorcle (I mean, miracle) index of 40K, but 35K is somehow terrific!!!! Yeah!!! I think it's already high enough at this moment. At least it means the song is well received. I just hope that tomorrow index won't be dropping to like less than 15K..

And thank god the no. 2 index was like 3.6K.. So I dun need to worry about another SCS-alike attack :D.

It doesn't work for single ? so we don't say that Ayu sales 61 453 singles ? '_'

bluegie 17th December 2008 11:05 AM

^For singles, the factor is around 1.75

SURREAL__RAINBOW 17th December 2008 11:06 AM

thats good!! I'm glad it even got to first place!! xD

thanks!

Wow! Only for first day, but had sold that much?! Ayu is FANTASTIC!

apple-pi 17th December 2008 11:14 AM

WOW, 1st day sales are a lot higher than MW's! I hope it'll sell better than MW... but then again, sales probably won't magically raise a lot in the weekend like they did on that case... but I'll hope for the best!

TITANIC 17th December 2008 11:21 AM

WAAAAW out of my expectation.. I thought max index about 25K

Maemi 17th December 2008 11:24 AM

Which single has the best first day sales?

ayumisrael 17th December 2008 11:45 AM

It seems like the single will have great sales!!
I'm so happy!!

4ever*ayu 17th December 2008 11:55 AM

i think it would outsold 1st week sales of talkin' 2 myself in 2days, glitter in 3-4days, and MW in 5days !! *cross finger*

AyumiBest 17th December 2008 11:57 AM

Wow! That's pretty good. ^^

maikaru 17th December 2008 12:05 PM

it's kind of disappointing about how small sales are for everyone..
I remember Seasons sold more than 500,000 on the first day.
Its kind of sad to see everything online now..
I feel something is being taken away..
People just say "I can just get it online" instead of going and waiting in line.
There's some excitement with having a single in your hands after waiting in line for a long time. ','

SURREAL__RAINBOW 17th December 2008 12:07 PM

uhmm
I like to see how all her last singles get the first position...

but why did GUILTY sell like crap!?!?! thats not fair at all
she was going to have 10 albums (or 9 plus a mini-album) top 1!!!

u.u

KarenPang 17th December 2008 12:10 PM

A bit wrong. SEASONS sold over 500,000 on the first week, not day. And I never compare the sales from that long past. First, that was the beginning of her golden era. Secondly, the sales format is quite different now. We probly should compare her sales with the current sales pattern instead.

But I do agree.. I miss the days when we waited in line to buy cds :)...

yeah I know!

the music industry in Japan used to be a lot better than now...
with all this economic crisis, is getting harder over there.

bluegie 17th December 2008 12:57 PM

Hmmn... sorta interesting analysis from Natsu Style: http://blog.livedoor.jp/ustan777/archives/51438439.html

I can't read Japanese, but based on the chinese characters, I think it talked about today's the high index is PROBLY due to FC first press (I assume it's TeamAyu preorder special thingie). They also said avex has done this kinda special preorder gifts recently. They used Kuu's MOON and TABOO as examples. MOON's first day index was like 6 times the second day index, while TABOO was more horrible... 1st day index was about 8 times the second day index.

So basically they predict that Day/GREEN second day index could have a big drop as well..

Hmmmn... I hope what they predicted is wrong... even tho I kinda think their analysis is quite logical..

music_* 17th December 2008 01:13 PM

May I how the index thing works? And why the need to x1.75?

Ayumi27 17th December 2008 01:16 PM

Great first day!
But of course, sales were more impressive than MW due to its double-A side nature and because december is the month with best CD sales

agashi 17th December 2008 01:24 PM

omg..ayu #1 again..amazing!! hope tomorrow the chart not falling down into 15k or lower..T_T

Well, singles nowadays rely on long lasting sales to do well.. I don't think we'll see a big first week like the past unless some JE group or Mr. Children has a 4A or something.

A~ sorry~ I should say week~
All artist experienced the decline in physical sales in the past years,
I think even america ones.
I am not comparing just her's~
It is everyone's who has dropped because of convenience of online sales.

The link posted by bluegie says that Days has started off selling more than all of her recent works.
Bluegie was right when he says they attribute that start off to FC earnings.. like special prize, etc.
And will see a drop in sales and index..
Although I am not sure what is the difference between the sales and index.

Anyways the point is that it will be the effect of the fan club.

I think it is just people trying to justify why Ayumi Hamasaki has done so well in this start, as compared to her other singles.

waterballoon 17th December 2008 03:53 PM

Yay! I was already sure that Days/GREEN would have awesome sales cos it's a strong single, a ballad single and it has a lot of hype and anticipation... to great sales!

I don't know about 1st day sales but I know it ended up selling around 260k. That would be cool if Days/GREEN sold around that amount.

Kikaru 17th December 2008 05:51 PM

I'm hoping it doesn't experience a sudden 2nd day drop, although I think this single's promotion strategy is actually quite smart (The main song for promotion turned out to be Days, a song that is more...mainstream? I guess than Green).

In AHS:
- 90% of us will encounter depression. The recovery process may take several days to probly even several months.
- Many of us will curse the person who kill off ayu's no. 1. Most likely he/she will be a new artist.
- Some of us (not me btw) will try to dig the forum and see who curse ayu... LOL.

In music industry:
- that will end the only no. 1 streak in the current female artist category. Besides ayu I can't think of anyone else having this glory at this moment.
- that will probly also end ayu and avex having privilege for choosing a date to get a safe no. 1. If you follow the JPop music industry you'll probly understand what I'm talking.
- this may also make ayu stepping down from being one of the very top artists in Japan...

- a good thing (probly...), is that ayu and us don't need to worry about rankings anymore, so she can make a huge change on her music taste... Try out something new. Who cares about getting no. 2 or no. 3 anywayz?? The streak is gone and we won't need to pray for that anymore.

Yeah. This is pretty much how the things will go. Personally I hope this no. 1 streak will maintain as long as possible. Ayu has already lost no. 1 streak on albums (it took me several days to recover and accept this tragedy). I don't really want her to lose this remaining glory as well. Cuz what I suggest about the music industry part will probly true once the streak is done. Of course she may get no. 1 again later on, but it's another chapter.

We can also use Seiko as the example.. She was the female artist with the most no. 1 singles (24) before ayu getting that title. Once Seiko lost the no. 1 streak, she never got any no. 1 afterward. Not to mention she sorta became a joke later on...

Edit: Seiko has another record not broken yet --> 24 consecutive no.1s in female :shakehead. Looks like it's hard for ayu to break this record. :P

douggn 17th December 2008 11:54 PM

thats good its done well on its first day :ttongue

Gus-tave 17th December 2008 11:59 PM

I have been hoping that GREEN/Days will be ayu's... "come-back single"
I hope so!!! I am going to post some translations of those charts later today...

jbrat2219 18th December 2008 12:38 AM

I'm not sure if I could imagine Ayu not toping the charts (maybe not no. 1 all the time, but at least the top 10). I think if her no.1 single streak were to break, I would ignore the oricon charts from here on out lol.

New Ayu single? = yay!
New Ayu single ranking? = Don't care...

Not saying that if Ayu isn't no.1 all the time it's not important. But I miss the ignorant bliss of never knowing how much she sold or whether or not she was number one... I just enjoyed the music... I want to go back to those times ^^; GUILTY kind of killed that for me lol.

bluegie 18th December 2008 12:51 AM

I browse around Seiko's ranking after the no.1 streak was gone. I can tell you that the rankings were horrible. For her next 10 singles, only 2 or 3 were in the top 10s. I am pretty shocked by that..

Edit: Here are the 10 singles after the last no. 1 streak from seiko:
Precious Heart - No. 2
THE RIGHT COMBINATION - No. 28
We Are Love - No. 16
きっと、また逢える… - No. 4
あなたのすべてになりたい/Shinin' Shinin' - No. 31
大切なあなた - No. 7
A Touch of Destiny - No. 51
かこわれて、愛jing - No. 63
もう一度、初めから - No. 22
輝いた季節へ旅立とう - No. 12

So... between 1989 - 1994... Her singles' rankings were like that. I dun want ayu to be like that... It's just... horrible..

Edit 2: She did reclaim some former glory for a short bit of time. At least during 1996 or 1997, she got two no.5, and even a no. 1... But then she's back to no. 22 or less...

Congratulations Ayu on your sales!~! You too, BUCK-TICK!~! <--- So glad you're back

SunshineSlayer 18th December 2008 01:03 AM

I never start celebrating until the second day sales come out. :)

I'm just waiting for the day though that Avex announces a single release date and then boom, surprise, a week later Arashi, or Kattun, or Mr. Children etc etc announce they are going to release something the same week and then watch as Avex has a heartattack at the thought of Ayu losing her #1. (they would maybe even switch her release date.)

YAY!! number one !! I hope her sales stay constant !!

They never will do that UNLESS someone else (like i said, a new artist, just like SCS?) kicks ayu off from no. 1. B'z will never battle Mr. Children, KinKi Kids will never battle NEWS (they do have no. 1 streak), Mr. Children won't battle ayu, ayu won't battle KinKi Kids. I believe the music companies have mutual understanding of "how to keep the no. 1 streak"...

Except when Distance and A BEST were up against each other :x. I think that's everyone's fear again.

Edit: Here are the 10 singles after the last no. 1 streak from seiko:
Precious Heart - No. 2
THE RIGHT COMBINATION - No. 28
We Are Love - No. 16
きっと、また逢える… - No. 4
あなたのすべてになりたい/Shinin' Shinin' - No. 31
大切なあなた - No. 7
A Touch of Destiny - No. 51
かこわれて、愛jing - No. 63
もう一度、初めから - No. 22
輝いた季節へ旅立とう - No. 12

Ouch!....... I hope that NEVER happens to Ayu :no

At least not for a long... LONG time...

How does Ayu compare to Seiko with her 44th single? Was Seiko still number one at that point?

cool...i forgot how much i guessed it would get...

it was either 160k or 180k or 168...or...hmm...

That was another story. Back then avex used that as a stepping stone to push ayu to the very top of the game. Before that no one would compare hikki and ayu together. To be honest, ayu wasn't on par with hikki back then. If there wasn't A BEST vs. Distance, I don't think people would notice that ayu could actually battle against hikki. Even tho she lost on the first week and in overall, still it's pretty amazing to see that she could get 2.8 (or 2.9?) million copies on the first week, while over 4 million copies overall.

Now, both of them has built up their own statues, I don't think they will ever make hikki vs. ayu on single charts. HOWEVER, there's a possibility that will occur on album chart since ayu's no. 1 streak for that section is broken already. It won't be that harmful to battle hikki again. Again the chance is pretty low, and I dun think it can stir up that mess they produced back in 2001.

Well, Precious Heart was Seiko's 27th single. So Seiko has a different story. She got her first no. 1 when she released her 3rd single.. Ayu didn't get no. 1 until probly the 7th. Plus out of 29 no.1s, only 16 have been consecutive (damn, avex shouldn't release Daybreak... or else she would have at least 7 more consecutive singles from evolution --> A song is born).

By the time Seiko has released her 44th single (according to wiki JPN), she did got two no. 5s and a no. 1 (I mentioned above), but then there were lots with no. 2X, no. 3X, etc.. So technically her chart rankings were quite bad...

You can't really compare the two because Ayumi released on a faster schedule. Seiko's first single was in 1980; her 44th in 1997. You should instead compare the singles that they each had in their 10th year - but even that you can't really do because that was the year Seiko decided to debut in America :) That's also pretty much the main reason for her large drop in the singles chart. Her last number 1 was just before she focused on America in 90/91.

jbrat2219 18th December 2008 01:32 AM

I would have loved to have seen the daily charting for those albums back then!!!

First day - 1.2 Million
Second day - 800,000
Third Day - 500,000

etc etc... hahahaha

Oh I see, I was just wondering if she was still number one or anything... to see how Ayu might fare over the next few singles. But I guess since Ayu does release at a crazy rate, you can't compare...

I quite agree. That's what I'm fear as well... Once ayu's streak is finished, probly she will be focused on Asia, US, etc... tbh, how many asian artists is successful in English speaking countries??

Also, probly sounds a bit harsh to Seiko... I certainly hope that ayu will not act like a cute 20s when she is hitting 40s. I dunno if Seiko is still using that cute image rite now or not, but back in a few years ago she really horrified me... :dead2

haha, I agree. :) I like some of Seiko's songs, but really she's never been a big favorite of mine. I would ultimately choose her rival Akina Nakamori between the two.

Didn't Kanjani 8 go up against HEAVEN? I think that was one of the rare times when an Ayu single went up against JE..

jbrat2219 18th December 2008 02:04 AM

^ And she came out of it alive? Kudos to Ayu! But HEAVEN is a really good song, I'm not surprised...

I think it did, but I'm not 100% sure. Of course at that time though Kanjani didn't sell as high as they do now.
