Who's your favorite "Japanese" Vocalist?
 

This is kind of like the "Who's the best vocalist in Japan" but without all the technical mumbo jumbo


I would just like to know your favorite vocalist (if you happen to think they're the best, that's okay too) :) in Japan?

So mine, right now, I'm really just in LOVE with Emi Hinouchi's vocals, and I think worldwide, she's definitely one of my all time favorites.

Someone else I really love, is mink. I just...love her voice...it's really oddly gorgeous. She's the reason why "Japanese" is in quotations lol

Male : Ken Hirai (have you seen the dude's live performances ? he sounds better if not the same as what you can hear on a CD :thud)

Female : ayaka (same as Ken's)

I don't think it's easy for them to accomplish such a feat at all

Koda Kumi <3 I love her vocals, especially when she's singing ballads live. She's got a really strong voice imo :love

omgosh ayaka :D ~! her voice is just AMAZING <33 lol ~! I also really like Ai because she sounds so cute live : ) jsut like her albums!

I love Hinouchi Emi's voice and then close after is ayaka. their vocals are just amazing

Why is Japanese is quotes? Are we talking about pseudo-Japanese people or something?

for male : Hyde, Shige, Tegoshi
for female : Ayu, Ami, Ayaka, hiro and eriko (both member of SPEED), and yuna ito

while she sings in Japanese, she is not Japanese. BoA is another example...and I think, alan? but I'm not sure about her.

OLIVIA! I guess you could say she's "Japanese" too :P (Half, anyway xDD) She has such a beautiful and versatile voice though o-o;; RURUTIA's voice is also precious <3

There's something about Blaise Plant (from Monkey Majik)'s voice that makes me go all melty in the knees. :3

well alan is Tibetan, so she's not Japanese

but anyways i've been wanting to try out emi, guess i should now :D

and i love alan's vocal~ she can wail so high lol

Yeah, alan is Tibetan.

Female: Angela Aki, alan, Anna Tsuchiya in her Spin Aqua days, that's an AMAZING voice <3 and Ayu of course, I like her live sometimes more than on her CDs, especially with A Song for XX <3

Male: I don't know too many...

Female: alan, Emi Hinouchi, Olivia Lufkin, Maakii (HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR), Kiyone (Ikimono Gakari), Tomiko Van, ayaka, Yu Yamada, Rie fu

Male: Atsushi Sakurai (BUCK-TICK), Miyavi (after he stopped smoking), Takanori Nishikawa (abs), Satoshi (girugamesh), Tatsuro (MUCC), Ryousuke Kojima (KELUN)

yeah, I kind of wanted to limit it to people who actually sing in Japan, instead of getting singers from China and Korea and such.

1) Akina Nakamori

She isn't my favorite singer, far from my top 10 but her voice is just amazing. She can do no wrong :yes

2) Ami Suzuki

Amigo's vocal range is...questionable :laugh But I just love how her voice sounds, it always sounds nice to me.


3) Akiddo Wada
I don't really like most of her music but her voice is so POWERFUL! and...manly? It's great :heart

I really love alan's vocals, they're amazing. Her lives never fail to blow me away.

I would also say Yuna Ito, though sometimes her songs can be a bit boring. Though she's not one of my favourites.

Currently? The only possible choice is Superfly.

I think there are plenty of excellent vocalists in J-pop.

Technichally the strongest is probably MISIA. though while I really like her music, but sometimes her voice has this shrill & hard element in it so she's not really THE favorite for me.

I think Alan is great, especially her high notes and wails. but I'm going to have to hear more from her, but I can definitely see her as a favorite in the future.

My favorite vocalist is Hitoto Yo. I think she has the best vibrato in J-pop. It's just very expressive in her songs, especially in her mega-hitsong "Morainaki".


I don't listen to a lot of guy singers , but I think there are some great vocalists among them too:

I really like Ken Hirai too, but sometimes I think he sounds akward if he does a lot of high notes. I think a more smoother RnB-type of singing would suit him better, like on "Jealousy" off "sentimentaLOVERS" album.

I think Shunsuke Kiyokiba is the best male vocalist in j-pop. He has a great vibrato withouth sounding weird and I really like his song "Ima" and his vocals on it.

honestly I haven't come across any other male solo vocalists that sounds great if not even better live than what you hear on the CD
