What do other singers think about Ayu?

I am interested in what other japanese singer say/think about Ayu?!
Do they respect their, are they jealous or maybe some of them hate her?
Does anybody know/heard/read something?

keikeiaznqueen 31st December 2008 05:43 PM

Well, DJ Ozma wants to marry Ayu. XDD

I think other artists do have respect for her, especially since she IS the bestselling solo artist in Japan (just behind B'z and Mr. Children overall?). Otherwise I don't really know much about this.

jimex289 31st December 2008 07:43 PM

She used to be 2nd overall but I'm very sure Misuchiru has overtaken her. I don't think the numbers are accurate anymore...gotta check Oricon for that info. What's the whole deal with her and DJ OZMA; do they have a thing going on (not a romantic thing of course)? Overall she's definitely respected by a lot of people...I don't see why she would be the object of any type of hatred. She's not the type of person who really gives a crap what people think about her either. I think she's expressed this in her songs and in her interviews.

I remember people used to say a lot of things about Ayu and Kuu when Kumi started rising into stardom and whatnot. You'd think there was actually something between them. They actually get along quite well, those two. Always sitting next to each other and gossiping on MS. It's the greatest thing I've ever seen lol.

Kingdom 31st December 2008 08:31 PM

i think the ayu vs. kuu thing was started because of ignorant fans on both sides. they are label mates and both amazing performers so people try to say one is better than the other, fake stories about the two fighting, and so on. but like you said jimex whenever they appear on shows together, they site next to each other and talk and giggle.

it is possible to adore both ayu and kuu, i do it!

as for other artists, i am sure she is respected. she has been in the music industry a long time!

ren0210989 31st December 2008 09:49 PM

i love to watch those 2 giggleing :roflmao

it cracked me up when DJ OZMA said @a-nation that he wants to marry Ayu xD

pommy48 31st December 2008 09:50 PM

hahaha yeah, they were sitting and giggling during Music Station whenever DJ OZMA began to perform :roflmao

but i think being in the music industry for so long, it's certain that ayu would get some respect

oo he did? which a-nation was that?

the recent one 2008 ~~ :P she cracked up too when she heard it~~~
it was cute

pommy48 31st December 2008 10:55 PM

oh when did he say it? cause i only downloaded the parts where ayu sang~

emi♡ 1st January 2009 12:48 AM

i think it's probably all of the above.

you can never know how anyone truly feels.

but if it's negative they probably arent going to show it lol

i think the majority of them respect her.

Evolution7/4 1st January 2009 03:13 AM

love at music station when ayu and kuu where chitchatting in the background together.
BoA really respects Ayu because she was very nice and respectful to her during her debut: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z6tYNwrg5fo

Utada Hikaru also respects Ayu and thinks she is "cute" (their rivalry is again completly fabricated by fans/the record companies: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6lgSLNBvXc

jimex289 1st January 2009 04:31 AM

Oh that's awesome; the whole thing with BoA. I have never seen that video so thanks for that. I'm not surprised at Ayu's reaction at all though...it seems like just the thing she would do. Despite all the success she's seen, I don't think it's gotten to her head in terms of treating people with proper respect and not looking down on them.

The whole thing with Hikki really came to light with the "A BEST - Distance" incident back in 2001. I don't think it was something Toshiba EMI took part in though...from what I heard they set the release date for Distance way before A BEST. It was avex that hit upon the Distance release date...whether it was coincidence or not no one really knows. I'm going to say it wasn't because they basically forced Ayu to release this against her will. I've seen that video though...it doesn't really seem like Utada Hikaru knows anything about Ayu at all actually, maybe because she herself is such a significant artist too. Quote: "She writes her own lyrics...I think?" and "She's REALLY cute." Gah, is that like, the only thing she can say about Ayu lol. I guess it just lends more credibility that there's not really anything between them. She's doing her own thing and not really paying attention to anyone else and it's the same with Ayu; I think the situation would be quite contrary if they really were rivals.

Evolution7/4 1st January 2009 06:07 AM

^Exactly. Also Utada states "We do different stuff" whch is so true. Two completly different type of singers/songwriters.

nEwly 1st January 2009 02:21 PM

Thank you very much for your answers!
I have thought of germany, because here there are some bands and singers who are really hated by some people xD (but I have to say some are really baaad :D)

asmAyumi1992 1st January 2009 03:04 PM

Most Taiwanese celeb (I think) always wanna copy what Ayu did. I don't hate them but they make me annoyed. Plus, from my observation, Misha Omar(Malaysian celeb) too looks like copying Ayu.

maikaru 1st January 2009 08:22 PM

TRF girl members, Wada Akiko, and though she is not a singer, Hisamoto Masami really like and support Ayu.
Especially Wada Akiko, who can be seen in this year's Kouhaku really excited when Mirrorcle World was announced, and really cheered her on.

*Petit* 1st January 2009 08:25 PM

A lot of high profiled musicians and idols come to her lives and concerts as well ..

Yes that's very true. This year I think Taiwanese(?) celebrity Alan Kuo cancelled a show or interview to attend Ayu's concert. Last year many famous celebs went, most notably Jolin Tsai. I don't think she went this year though.

Calico 2nd January 2009 12:39 AM

^Namie Amuro is also reported to have going to a show or two last year in Ayu's tour. To me that signals that not only does she probably at least respect Ayu, but she also must at least enjoy her music/theatrics. I think it's great when artists support each other...but then again, when you're an artist, you're still gonna wanna just relax and watch your faves too.

jimex289 2nd January 2009 02:36 AM

Ah Namie too! I do recall hearing something about that, actually. It's quite significant Ayu's noticed and respected by such a fellow big star, who has seen her own days of fame and recognition.

SURREAL__RAINBOW 5th January 2009 07:52 AM

have you guys seen that video on youtube of BoA talking about ayu???

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z6tYNwrg5fo

I found it awesomee xDD ayu is such a good person, even that shes a rich b**** sometimes xDDD

about the kuu vs. ayu thing, it annoys mee soo much xDD meeting all this fans from both sides that hate one or another, personally, without thinking that im an ayu fan, I dont like koda, her "cute" pvs seem really fake... but she's got a pretty good voice!! and i love her sexy love songs like Aishou, and I also love TABOO xDDDD but yea...
i met this guy from south america, and hes such an ayufan that he wont listen to any other jpop singer or even western female singer...

i think that closed minded stuff should end.

LacusClyne 5th January 2009 01:20 PM

well, for one point of view, kuu's cuteness during a pv might look fake, but that is the real her. kuu actually has more of a cute and straightforward personality.

but back to topic, i had once heard a rumour that Ayu don't like ceratain members of Morning Musume in 2000/2001. According to the article, the girls were like 14 or 15 years old, but ayu caught them smoking and cursing in the toilet. the article said that ayu despise them for their behaviour.

maikaru 5th January 2009 02:29 PM

Did you see M station with Utada Hikaru and Hamasaki Ayumi
Utada sings Ayumi Hamasaki songs at Karaoke
And they were laughing and finishing each other's sentences at the end of the program, and Hamasaki laughs on her shoulder.
It was really like they were best friends~~~ awww.
And when the announcer asked if Ayumi sang her Utada songs, she said "it's too difficult! those thin and delicate sounds just don't come out." ahaha

i heard some rumour when ayuXtomoya broke up, akiko was like saying bad thing about ayu in a TV programme? and she praised how good was tomoya to ayu while ayu wasnt doing anything good to him. idk, it might be a false news too

Ohhh~
It was because she thought Ayu was blocking her calls.
But I think they resolved it now,
Because sometimes Wada Akiko mentions Ayu in her program and things.
And yeah, at Kouhaku, she was really cheering Ayu when she was announced.
So I think everything is fine.

p.s. do you know, she went on a rampage about Kouhaku!! ahaha
"Perfume and GIRL NEXT DOOR was LIPSYNC!!! what is criteria about this kouhaku program?!" she said.
Ahaha I love Wada Akiko.
She was so mad at her team~

nEwly 5th January 2009 05:45 PM

Thanks for your answers, I am not surprised, that the japanese/asian celebs don't hate Ayu. Ayu is so cute, you can't do not like her^^

Does anyone know what GACKT is thinking/saying about Ayu?
I am very interested in this^^

LacusClyne 6th January 2009 02:31 AM

Gackt and ayu are friends.

ooh, i used to watch this video of ayu calling Gackt during a show....

Lol yeah Kuu is a very genuine person. What you see is what you get. She's not some dirty **** people make her out to be nor is she some fake person trying to put on a cute act.

The whole Morning Musume thing is very interesting lolol. I don't know if she'd despise them for what they did though. Ayu herself was quite a rebel back in the day. Though I have no idea of whether she smoked back in the day, these actions seem to belong in the same category of things Ayu did when she was young. Probably not as bad though lol.

Doesn't namie and ayu have nicknames for each other?

Yeah, I was about to mention Wada. Also I would say Akina Nakamori - she praised Ayu although it was on a tv show and Ayu was right next to her, so even if she didn't like her, I doubt Akina would say it.

Beyond these examples though, I've surprisingly heard Ayu mentioned very few times by other artists. The ones that seemed to look up to her the most were actually many of the girls in Hello Project.

It was written in a news article (who knows how reliable it is though) that Ayumi called Namie "The Monkey" and Namie called Ayu "The Makeup Monster." Pretty funny if its true, but I highly doubt they would be open about a distaste for each other.

Perfume is obvious, but I really didn't suspect Girl Next Door. I would love to read Wada's comments though. Do you have a link?

Yes! The monkey and makeup monster nicknames. I coulda swore it was mentioned on this forum or on some fan website I browsed. I just couldn't find it anymore and was questioning if I actually saw it or not :laugh

Polyrhythm 6th January 2009 03:57 PM

I dont remember anything....except seeing on youtube when BoA said something about how Ayu bowed to her and she thought that was nice????@_@ weird....and then Hikki said something like "shes so cute" in some radio interview...oh yeah...and then theres that time....I dunno what Koda Kumi was thinking....theres this one YT vid where...ayu goes to the premiere of Mr. and Mrs. Smith or something like that....and then Ayu goes to sit down...and Kumi just sorta stares at Ayu with wide eyes...like "talk to me!"....but then Ayu just sits down. @_@ Thats all I remember

maikaru 8th January 2009 03:57 AM

You know today on Mixi group, this very conversation was revived.
I saw many names, and many proofs about it.
Like most of the Johnny's Groups, KAT-TUN (Akanishi Jin and Kamenashi Kazuya especially), NewS (especially YamaPi), Arashi members.
Also EXILE (especially Hiro, Ayu said once in an interview "I am very glad to have met Hiro so long ago.")
And there's a story of them dancing to Trauma. ahaha like the dance of Trauma.
Also the members of winds, Porno Graffitti, and the Southern All Star's gutarist guy.
There are so many names, and places where they have said "I like Ayu"
I felt really proud of it~

And of course in that same topic, Koda Kumi vs. Hamasaki Ayumi came again,
Many saying "Koda insults Ayu" and then "Ayu neglects Kumi" etc.
So annoying

Also, many net celebrities have posted photos of them going to PCDL.

jimex289 8th January 2009 11:10 PM

Oh she knew Hiro of EXILE? EXILE has been around for quite a while so I guess it's not that big of a surprise. If I'm not mistaken he's their leader no? Overall all those artists you mention are pretty genuine people and very well-respected themselves. I think it's only natural they can understand one of their own and where she's coming from and the nature of her work. They might have a better understand than her fans themselves.

Zeke. 9th January 2009 01:45 AM

I really enjoyed that video of Boa commenting about when she met Ayu. So nice! I remember hearing that radio show after it first aired and I downloaded it and burned it to a CD to listen to one day while cleaning my room, ha ha. Yeah, now that you mention it, it doesn't seem like Hikki really knows too much about Ayu. I guess she's not a "fan". I don't know how you can't be one. Lol. She's got material for everyone.

Lol. I can just see this, Ayu having people to do this sort of thing for her:

Ayu-chan: "Hikaru-chan is in the hospital? Send her flowers immediately."
Staff: "Yes Miss Ayu!! How many would you like to send?"
Ayu-chan: "Whatever they have in stock."
Staff: "Oh! Hai!"

andre2907 11th January 2009 02:53 AM

About the Kuu vs. Ayu thing. Obviously we have no proof they like or don't like each other but I remember Ayu was really cold to Koda Kumi during the Mr. and Mrs. Smith premiere. It was kind of weird, haha.

Of course, as fans, we have no idea who don't like/like each other in this media. Just because they made nice comments about each other in a TV show does not mean anything and tabloid articles are not reliable either.

mimika 12th January 2009 11:06 PM

^it's like the rumour ages ago that ayu dislike namie....but there's no proof and we all know tabloid like to make up stories...

She gave a lil bow to Ayu for greetings and Ayu gave this gigantic bow back to her. She said she felt honored that Japan's biggest music star was so polite to someone that had not even made a debut yet.

I remember that Hikki interview. It was so nice of Hikki to say that, but it was so rude and stupid of that fan to ask Hikki of when Ayu would make her U.S. debut lol.

Nicolas 23rd January 2009 12:09 PM

Basically, Japanese culture being what it is, you will almost never hear another artist openly criticising Ayu. Its not like in the UK, for example, where the likes of Lilly Allen will shoot their mouth off if they don't like another artist. Its considered extremely rude and would probably cause their own careers a lot of damage. No doubt it does happen from time to time and alsmost certainly in private. Japanese people often try to avoid criticism of other people openly at all costs but they are just as human as everyone else and the *****ing is done behind closed doors.

noidea 23rd January 2009 03:23 PM

^ Right, but I want to add something, so nobody misunderstands it: they won't critizise in public, but they won't say they like someone, if they don't, too.

lfe. 23rd January 2009 04:46 PM

How is that different in any other country? We have plenty of that between celebrities in the U.S.

noidea 23rd January 2009 09:58 PM

american celebtrities aren't nearly as polite as japanese, there are so many public conflicts with all these american people, I'm sorry I don't have an example(because I'm not interested at all in american celebrities, because a) im german and b) I don't listen to american music)
