The ~A~ symbol

I have been thinking about the ayu's symbol.

Is her symbol since the beggining? Who has designed it? And when?
Is a original symbol really, and very personal.

(Maybe someone have asked this before, and if it's like this, sorry!)

crea_spain 8th February 2009 09:44 PM

I think she even had this ~A~ logo in her IDOL era so maybe it was designed by herself (?)

AyUta 8th February 2009 11:37 PM

I've always thought about that symbol. I wonder...:headache

GRACE 9th February 2009 12:00 AM

I'm pretty sure the first time she used the "A" logo was the A Single A, and then it was changed into what we see today.

Melrose 9th February 2009 12:22 AM

Anyone else notice it looks like that Hitler plus-sign thing?

U-GO-BOY 9th February 2009 12:29 AM

^ oO"" wut? xD

you are seeing things that only you want to see...it does NOT in any way, shape or form look like a shwashtica...

Melrose 9th February 2009 01:11 AM

@GRACE: Ah, swastika, that's it in English.

LOL funny how my dad made the comment, too.

@ownsarai: Actually if you're not seeing it than you're not seeing what you don't want to see, because, well, it's FACT that it resembles a swastika if you take away a small part of the logo. =)

My friend's brother pointed that out to me when he saw my PDCL phone strap last week.

Melrose 9th February 2009 01:12 AM

@^: Haha, funny I'm not the only one.

Actually it's interesting considering Japan was allies with Germany. XD

Calico 9th February 2009 04:13 AM

Actually, you could say that it looks like a symbol for Buddhism instead, since that's where the Swastika comes from. :rollseyes

ownsarai 9th February 2009 04:14 AM

Whatever, I don't see it Melrose...I see an A, in a unique shape.

exactly, people seem to think the nazis invented or something @_@
i once had a little charm of it, but it was a buddhist symbol...but now i don't use it >_<

does anyone know who create all those animations of the A at AT06 then?

jimex289 9th February 2009 04:46 AM

Lol maybe some parts of it resemble the swastika like the curves. Overall I don't see any resemblance. She's obviously got more than one A symbol too. I guess everyone refers to the main one when they talk "A symbol".

amorphose 9th February 2009 04:51 AM

LMAO @ the swastika comments!
My friend was watching the AT08 performance of Mirrorcle World with me and thoguht the "A" on her hat was a swastika. I don't really see it, but I guess there must be some resemblance if she wasn't the only one who thought that.

ohsixthirty 9th February 2009 04:56 AM

well, i heard it was made originally for the A single, but the idea was to combine the A from Ayumi with the Pi symbol because the A single was about patterns. thats why the songs on there repeated. like song 1, song 2, song 3, remix song 1, remix song 2, remix song 3, another remix of song 1, another remix of song 2, etc...

dreamland2.0 9th February 2009 04:57 AM

OMG my Mum said the exact same thing! that it looked like a swastika and that if I wore my armband to school I'd be arrested or something!
I think it looks like an "A"
:)

ohsixthirty 9th February 2009 05:19 AM

i don't see any resemblance at all...

http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/d...123/lkjhfd.jpg

ownsarai 9th February 2009 05:38 AM

^Exactly. I think SOMEBODY just wanted some attention...

pommy48 9th February 2009 05:42 AM

@_@ i really don't know how people can think the A symbol can look like that @_@ maybe from a distance it might....

crea_spain 9th February 2009 12:55 PM

~A~ symbol looking like a Shrine Torii? :cool

http://www.shinmei.or.jp/en/images/zu-toriiEN.gif

zyoeru 9th February 2009 12:59 PM

I think it does KIND of look like a manji. But it also looks like an A and a torii, maybe the designer took inspiration.
After all in Asia the swastika/manji doesn't really have any negative connotations and it's a symbol of a peace in fact.
So maybe it is like...

Ayumi + Peace + Holiness = A symbol.

PinkShinigami 9th February 2009 01:16 PM

I think it just were something for the A single. I don't think there is a bit story about it ;)

SURREAL__RAINBOW 9th February 2009 01:24 PM

the A in the single A was the first A used as a logo lol

but the one we all know (the "A" that looks like japanese writting) was first time used in her single appears (10/12/1999)

here u guys can have a look:

:D

Aga-chan 9th February 2009 08:44 PM

I think the "A" symbol looks a little like tori'i. Maybe this is where she (or someone else) got the inspiration from?

Oh, I didn't see that someone already pointed out the tori'i resemblence. Sorry. ^^a

SURREAL__RAINBOW 12th February 2009 05:41 AM

LOL and Melrose had to delete the "swastika" subject to stop embarrasing himself

LMFAO

C+R+E+AYUMI 12th February 2009 10:33 AM

I don't see a swastika on A symbol anyway it's something absurd.

Please remember that the swastika symbol derives from another greek symbol who rappresented the sun (it is differently oriented).

The swastika is the symbol of death, ignorance and the deepest black part of human soul so PLEASE let this symbol be buried forever.

oh found this on some site~

Quote:

Ayumi Hamasaki uses a symbol to represent her name. Usually, when typed, the symbols are just replaced with the letters A, M, and H. Ayumi Hamasaki - The first A. The first time she used a symbol for a title was her eleventh single
A. The strokes of the symbol represented the a-sides of the single - monochrome, Trauma, too late, and End roll. This is the only context that this symbol has only been used in, and she ceased to use this symbol after the invention of the second A.

hayasaki 2nd October 2015 08:17 AM

i've always have this theory that the symbol is actually "A" and "H" joined together and designed in a Japanese manner, resembling the torii gate found in temples in shrine.

LONJJONG 2nd October 2015 09:42 AM

It was designed by Shinichi Hara :D
