Which do you prefer: BoA vs. This Is The One

Which album do you think is better? Since both are being released in Japan, I guess this is an asian music poll.

BoA's "BoA: The First Album" or Utada's "This Is The One"

no flaming plz.. keep this civil, stans!

love in music 17th March 2009 10:15 AM

BoA. i like all tracks on that album whereas i only like about 2-3 on Utada's

VAL 17th March 2009 10:17 AM

BoA !!

This is the one is good, but "BoA" is a lot better!!!

pommy48 17th March 2009 10:19 AM

BoA, i'm a sucker for dance, electro, techno like music

ll moments ll 17th March 2009 10:52 AM

BoA.

i mean, i like Utada's "This Is The One" as well, but i prefer the musical style on "BoA". it makes me want to go clubbing. xD

kang daesung 17th March 2009 10:57 AM

Utada. BoA's album sounds like a bootleg Lady Gaga CD with too much vocoder and Engrish, and not enough decent melodies. Utada's is a masterpiece, probably the best CD of the year. :yes

ayumisrael 17th March 2009 03:16 PM

BoA's albums.
It's one of the best albums as of late.
I didn't like hikki's album much.

aurinko. 17th March 2009 03:19 PM

BoA :)

I quite like hikkis album, but there's nothing really pleasant or interesting for me... and I have better things to do with 1hour of my life.

Okay first :lmfao.

Like everyone with the exception of Kang, I love the album. I actually liked mostly every song on the album. The only two I didn't like was Eat You Up and Dress Off.

Sure the album has Engrish and they used a vocoder, but this is the type of album that is most likely to succeed in the US.

On a somewhat unrelated topic I put Scream under the OK colum in my review and yet, it is the most play song from the album. Can't wait to go to Target and buy an actual copy.

Keiichi_JPU 17th March 2009 03:59 PM

This Is The One

I only like 4 songs on BoA (Eat You Up, Look Who's Talking, Hypnotic Dancefloor and Obsession).

Now I haven't listened to all This Is The One's previews yet (waiting for the album to arrive), but so far, I'm already in love with most of the songs I've heard! And on BoA, there's just 1 song I'm really in love with, and that's Eat You Up.

BoA, sadly ;/

Twinkle ! 17th March 2009 06:59 PM

Hmmm about me i like both but i'll choose BoA Cause i like the dance style

Cyria 17th March 2009 07:17 PM

BoA, definitively. It's such a well-made dance album.

njanjayrp 17th March 2009 09:03 PM

BoA - the album is really well produced dance album and I really like it even though there are a couple of songs I don't listen to (like 2 of them Dress off and Look Who's Talking) (though I can listen to them). On the other hand there are only 3 tracks on This is the One that I love, while I think the others are simply bad. So yeah I too am hoping BoA will be the one to actually succeed in the States in time.

NintendoHTF1242 17th March 2009 09:35 PM

This Is The One. The tracks on there were catchy, fun, and great. BoA's were, well, her voice was too vocoded for my liking, and I just couldn't get into the dance tracks. Utada's was easy listening, BoA is for clubbing, and I prefer lighter listening.

emi♡ 17th March 2009 09:54 PM

um...

hard to say...

atm I like tito better...but boa's is better for america, as it is more mainstream.

that said...I also feel boa's is a little less original...which is kind of a let down...

they're both on the same level. They both have cool songs and stuff, but they also have disappointing drawbacks.

tito for me though because...boa's voice and engrish seriously bugs me...but that's a personal thing so...yeah.

rookies 17th March 2009 11:23 PM

Utada - This Is The One.

I really liked the album more than BoA's album. ^^

GRACE 18th March 2009 03:34 AM

BoA, by a long shot. Hikki's album was alright, but BoA's wow <3 I'm a sucker for that dance stuff, seriously.

Hypnotic Dancefloor, oh my god, I'd burn up it's dance floor if you know what I mean

Beauty4123 18th March 2009 05:12 AM

ugh this is hard. they're both good in their own ways. but...i think the final answer will be BoA's album for me. i still love utada's album, though. there should be a "both" option, lol.

AyUta 18th March 2009 06:46 AM

I'm sorry my lovely Hikki but I go for BoA this time <3

ian lim 18th March 2009 07:28 AM

Boa trying to be catchy, but din catch my attention, yeah the songs are young and danceable but i just dont feel it. Both this album is totally different. I prefer Hikki style.

TeddyGrahams 18th March 2009 07:38 AM

I definitely prefer Utada's album muscially, waiting for it to release on Itunes, but as for which one is "has better appeal and has better beats" it's definitely BoA. So I choose BoA in the end because, I really thought it would suck initially. After I listened to it just blew my mind out of the water. Eat you up did not bring it justice. xD

kendelle 18th March 2009 07:52 AM

BoA is a more powerful album in my opinioin.

I like the snippets I've heard from Come Back to me and Mr Lawrence but it's not comparable to the energy in BoA.

BoA has more danceable tracks and feels like it had more effort put into it than TITO.

Huaka 18th March 2009 09:03 AM

Utada's album was pretty good considering Exodus but I'm sorry, BoA wins this hands down.

Polyrhythm 18th March 2009 09:38 AM

BoA:
Spoiler:

Pros:
Seems to have more time behind it

Heavier promotion

DEFINITELY better packaging (Which crackhead designed Utada's cover?)

A bit more consistent with the current trend in U.S music

very marketable (question now is to who really...)

Cons:
Album title is a bit...blah....BoA....ok to the American consumer...."who the heck is BoA???"

I will never see past the Engrish

It doesnt seem like BoA had any part in the production of the album other than singing

the songs....

The songs are very cliche....and done...been there done that...it sounds like wannabe
Britney Spears

Too many effects covering up her voice x_x her voice has been altered so much it actually sounds like a synthisized voice @ times.

I cant remember a single track except Eat You Up (The lead single) They all sound the same
------------------------------------------------
The cons on this one really outweigh the pros. In this case, I'll buy a copy for BoA's sake in the U.S....but honestly, her english music, though a bit lacking in pronounciation, would sound much better with a natrual voice. She can make better music than this.

Utada:
Spoiler:

Pros:
Every song is unique and reflects a different side of her personality in this album

Lead single is a very easy to get into R&B ballad

Ever track shows off her vocal abilities....her voice in all the ballads especially has a
very organic beauty to it

Lyrically its genius. The lyrics actually have meaning to them, hidden or upfront and in your face

Grown up feel compared the atrocity of Exodus...sex is important but shouldnt be the whole song. This time its very subtle and flows with the story of the song

Cons:
Ok....lets start with the most obvious offense....what the hell is up with that cover. Its a very very beautiful shot of her....words, though plain are not all that bad....but it just doesnt show great....iunno...workmanship(?) to use the same cover for 2 releases.

Utada, are you ever gonna promote your album in the U.S? A little listening party at Sephora doesnt really cut it if nobody knows who the heck you are

The lyrics of her songs are very....abstract....not common to the U.S market.
------------------------------------------------
I already preordered both versions of the album. It is defnitely something new away from all the same old same old of current American music. Hopefully, her promotion team pulls itself together because she's almost there. The album is amazing but it doesnt really matter if no one cares.

I voted for This Is The One...lyrically unique, musically palatable, this is the one I see reaching the ears of U.S listeners and critics and actually making an impact in the industry....of course, from the Asian market point of view this Album really sucks and I doubt the Japanese audience is actually buying the album for the music...

ayumixfan 18th March 2009 10:16 AM

I picked this is the one. I just like the style. Its laid back nice and relaxing. the album is just very nicely done IMO. Even ifshe doesn't become a commercial success I still think this album was worth making.

I think BoA's music is more mainstream, but i can't get into it... it just sounds like britney songs that I don't like. I also agree with xheartstation that the tracks really don't seem unique and sound the same.

I'm not sure I think my opinions might be HIGHLY bias due to the fact Lady Gaga's The Fame album was an electronic pop dance album and it was just amazing and I finally bought blackout by britney and it was Really good too. I just cant find BoA's songs on this level : (

babybunny 19th March 2009 10:08 AM

BoA

Lady LoveGame 22nd March 2009 10:08 PM

This Is The One

BoA is too dancey and badly generic. I was really hoping for something good to come from her but she failed to deliver that goods. :(

Taru86 22nd March 2009 11:50 PM

BoA

With BoA I really like her english music, but don't really care for her japanese or korean music. And with Utada, I like her japanese music, but don't really care for her english music..

Amrai-chan 23rd March 2009 01:50 AM

There should be a other option. I'm not sure with I like more. They're both good but different and have thier own moods to them.

Kingdom 23rd March 2009 02:09 AM

there's not a BOTH option because this poll asks which one you prefer.

41 vs 21, i guess people enjoy BoA more :love i have to agree

Peger 23rd March 2009 02:13 AM

Utada by quite a bit.

RikkuChii 23rd March 2009 02:32 AM

BoA's definitely.

Hikki's was a diappointment.

SelfishHands 24th March 2009 08:16 PM

They're both mediocre but TITO is kinda boring and samey a lot :/

ayu-america-27 24th March 2009 08:50 PM

This Is the One for sure. I mean, don't get me wrong BoA's is a great album, but I'm a huge R&B fan, especially the pop-infused stuff on TItO. Seriously, this album is like tailor-made for me, but BoA's is very good too. My biggest problem with it is that the songs all sound too similar to each other but still i like them. StarGate can't make a song that I don't like... seriously.

BTW, BoA's kinda succeeded by reaching #20 on the iTunes Top 100 Albums chart... maybe a top 100 debut on the Billboard 200 on Thursday?

amorphose 24th March 2009 10:22 PM

THIS IS THE ONE. THIS IS THE ONE. THIS IS THE ONE.

There were like three or four good songs on BoA and the whole album sounded the same. I was so disappointed with it. This Is The One, on the other hand, blew me away. Way to go mainstream and still make great music, Hikki! :D

TITANIC 27th March 2009 04:40 PM

BoA definately. it's great album IMO.

This is the one is very very boring album. i really like exodus but this is the one like a nightmare

Melon Panda 27th March 2009 10:48 PM

This Is The One for me. BoA had a few catchy tracks, but the album as a whole wasn't as great as This Is The One.

keikeiaznqueen 30th March 2009 10:18 AM

This Is The One, no doubt.

I just can't stand BoA's english album, like how I can't stand Eat you up. >.> The whole song is such a... it's so awkward.

On the other hand, I actually really LIKE some of Hikki's tracks on This Is The One.

CoriKaru 30th March 2009 02:17 PM

Utada's Album Eats BoA's Album right on Up like Apple & Cinnamon.

I pick "This Is The One" obviously.

ayuayu798 4th April 2009 10:02 PM

I like BOA more... however I think that this is the one is more original..

Chandrachan 13th May 2009 12:37 AM

I like BoA

UHPlus 13th May 2009 06:23 AM

When i first listened to both albums, I love THIS IS THE ONE and found BoA boring.

After 1 month later, I love BoA and found THIS IS THE ONE boring...

LOL!

aloopy 13th May 2009 06:29 AM

BoA. by far. i still like all the songs on it. i don't like TITO and i only bothered to listen to two tracks for a second time.

Minttulatte 14th May 2009 06:17 PM

Now that I've listened to both albums more I have to say that This Is The One is actually a million times better than BoA's album which actually has no ballads in it (and I hate it cuz I love ballads). Utada's album is also full of music that Hikki wrote herself and I really respect that. And also vocally I think Hikki's album is better. :)

I also found BoA's album boring. :D

So I picked This Is The One. <3

ImpactBreaker 15th May 2009 05:59 AM

Both albums are FANTASTIC!!! But wow, BoA's just too awesome. I wasn't really expecting to like it that much. THIS ALBUM IS TOO AWESOME!!!

Because 3 months is a year

Anyway, This Is The One is a much more solid album than BoA's. BoA's consist of the same bland beats you can find in commercial American music, so it certainly brings nothing new to the table.

Crystal_Ageha 24th October 2009 09:31 PM

I like Hikaru much more than I'll ever like BoA, but I have to admit that BoA did a much better job this time around. Honestly, though, they're both very unoriginal and mainstream. The only thing is, BoA's album is current US mainstream, where Utada's album was mainstream a few years ago, lol.

keepsgettinbetter 24th October 2009 09:35 PM

I like them both equally, but I think BoA should get my vote, it's got something that Utada's album is just missing. I love Utada's lyrics, but I just preferred the actual music of BoA's album, and her music videos were much better too, so BoA.

i remember when i go to my local cd store i saw BoA's n Utada's, n i ended up only buying BoA lol

Polyrhythm 15th December 2009 05:48 AM

Well....I really loved TITO more. BoA's album wasnt even an album...it was like...a CD full of half assed, vocoder-ed dance tracks...Hikki really grew from Heart Station....and her lyrics have meaning....and now, she's on tour :luv2.....BoA's album just caused to flop, flop, and...develop gender identity issues 0_o

Baernash 22nd December 2009 08:40 AM

Definitely BoA, her album is very powerfull. Utada's new english album is hopeless - far far behind "EXODUS" (which was great).

I could of sworn I posted on this thread already.....

I hate to say this but BOA's album was definitely the better album for me. I am a huge Hikki fan but I prefer the electronic/dance sounds that BOA had to offer. Hikki's sounded too unoriginal. Her album reflects what was popular 5 years ago. TITO was a step down from Exodus. Sorry Hikki.
