To be honest, I liked the 30 second preview of A&C then the whole thing. After I bought it was kinda like :dead2
It's still good though I think it'll take me a while to appreciate it.
BTW, does anyone know when her next Japanese single is going to come out? I can't wait! :yes

Polyrhythm 7th April 2009 03:42 AM

^I have no clue...sorry for seeming like I'm ignoring your question but I love you're signature and avatar....the brown looks really nice on her =]

LOL My brother is playing Come Back to Me right now...= =

pommy48 7th April 2009 06:52 AM

i was really enjoying dirty desire, but with the ending of "bring that beat back", that basically just destroyed the whole song for me @_@

does any one else dislike that part?

norain 7th April 2009 07:44 AM

In regards to the 28th thread. I don't like that FYE or etc. are promoting UTADA when they can't even find her CD. It's like...unless they keep that there for 4 Months or something (HIGHLY DOUBTFUL), then it won't do much promotion for her "i have never heard of you" fans.

:laugh at first I was like wtf...now it just makes me laugh.

I don't think it should be there...but it's still funny.

lol should Apple & Cinnamon be released as the 2nd single , I so can't imagine the PV at all :laugh

Funny enough, just the other day an interesting concept for a Music Video to "Apple And Cinnamon" popped into my head while listening to it and now I appreciate the song so much more when I think about the concept while listening to it. Kind of hard to explain. But it involves like still shots and flashbacks and mixing the present with the past.

Have Utada in the midst of this terrible aftermath singing the song while looking back on before when they had no idea what was coming. But really make it dramatic and terrible to heighten the fact. Also the "Spacey" effects they use on Utada's voice when she sings "Simple and Innocent" and "Apple and Cinnamon" give me this feeling as well. Very surreal and foreboading.

Now this just came to me to kind of give an example, not that I'm really saying they should use this, but have like a dead body face first on the floor so that we don't know who it is and then like when Utada sings, "Started off so simple and innocent", flashback to really good blissful times and then keep going back to the dead body on the floor or Utada or somebody standing near it with a knife.

Whatever. Just something like that. And then at the end we realize the dead body on the floor was like somebody in the background of the scenes that we hadn't even noticed and not who we thought at all and then we go through all of these flashbacks revealing the mystery. Very ominous.

Ever played "Braid". The award winning XBOX360 game that had to do with Time Travel. Well what I'm talking about would very much be like the ending Climax of that game. Very creepy and unexpected.

And with Utada's "Ohhhhh"'s at the end of "Apple And Cinnamon", which I love, it would fit very appropriately with such a dark and depressing ending.

This is just me though. I can see how someone may think this is completely ridiculous and that the Music Video should be something like Utada playing hopscotch while eating Apple Jacks or something. Meh. I'd die.

And yeah, you'd have to completely disregard some of the lyrics to get this outcome. Lyrics aside, this is the feeling the music itself gives me. Plus it's better for me to think of if this way than just another Love Song dealing with Breaking Up. They Kill Me.

Second Single: On & On, make some sort of clubbing PV, or something with flashy neon lights and cool sneakers like the ones she wore in the promo pic :p. I dunno something cool that'd appeal to a clubbing audience while keeping it Utada.

Third Single: One of the mid-tempo ballads (FYI, Apple & Cinnamon, This One) to appeal to the masses and break through :D She'd need a mainstream PV with her walking through a rainy street and flirting with guys with a sad look upon her face (I dunno if that makes sense)

what an ingenious master plan.. hope it works ;) she could even make a fourth single Dirty Desire.

not like that'll ever happen :(

some ppl say she sounds lik mariah on yahooanswers.
i dont think theyre alike much ><

hikaricore 9th April 2009 02:04 AM

Mariah's voice is way stronger than Hikki's.
Hikki has a more unique genre to her music, too.
Mariah makes alot of Pop/R&B stuff. There's a huge difference, IMO.
However, I'm convinced that the comparison might drive some people (Mariah fans?) to go listen/buy This Is the One. So I'm okay with the comparison, even though it's not very good.

Purple Neko 9th April 2009 02:32 AM

I actually like that description of hikki. I have no qualms with people dropping the name Mariah Carey when talking about her...although I think I would choose someone else...they seem to have chosen very basic artists, Mariah, Britney, Justin, Spice Girls lol so...I think it's okay.

Utada's new album definitely sounds like some of MC's stuff... especially the ballads. Love 'em!

mangoo_x3 10th April 2009 08:41 AM

listen closely she does sound like mariah in some parts in her tracks.

like in "Come Back To Me", how the background voice was like "Come back" "One in a million" sounded kinda like mariah.

i don't find mariah's voice strong, just high LOL.

mcluva420 10th April 2009 08:46 AM

^mariah's voice is both high and strong<3 .
somebody mentioned that "come back 2 me" sounded mariah-ish too

Sundae 10th April 2009 08:57 AM

So the Billboard charts came out and This Is The One fell off the chart. Come Back to Me went up 4 spots on the Hot Play Dance chart to 20. She losing steam there. I hope she hits the Top 10 at least.

Polyrhythm 10th April 2009 09:04 AM

^I was quite surprised that TITO even made it on the charts at all last time being that it was a digital release and that barely anyone even knows who Utada is. Hopefully with the release of the next single(s) the album will get enough attention to rocket up the charts at the physical release.

FuNsTyLe 10th April 2009 03:29 PM

^Yes, I hope so too.

It's interesting how different the charts are in US from Japan, and the way artists promote their albums, single releases etc, very different from in Japan, where you release several singles at first, then the album, in the US it's kind of opposite, so that means there's still good chances of the album rising on the charts

ayuayu798 10th April 2009 07:15 PM

^ I think the US way is weird... why would you buy an album with all of the songs in it, and then go back to by a single with a song that is already on the album! I think it works out in hikki case though because it gives her a chance to promote herself more, especially since she only has her album available digitally, and she isn't known so well in the US...

Andrenekoi 10th April 2009 07:31 PM

People that buy singles in the US usually are interested on the remixes (and most of the time are DJs or something)

Kaiouforever 10th April 2009 07:33 PM

I don't think she sounds anything like Mariah (in terms of voice) but some of the melodies, I can see that. Anything to get people to notice her (so comparisons are okay with me xD)

norain 10th April 2009 07:46 PM

most people that buy singles in america, only buy it because they only like that one song. I don't even think physical single releases exist for many songs released these days. Just digital.

Agree 100%. It's so much more acceptable. Although BoA does have a bit more natural singing talent than Britney. Even so, you wouldn't be able to tell this on her latest English Album.

Well...BoA doesnt stomp off the stage during live performances and scream profanity at her audiences =]

Sundae 10th April 2009 10:22 PM

Does anyone know how Utada did on the Pop 100? Or was it the Pop 100 Airplay? I didn't know there was a difference between the two at first. They have way too many charts. It's music segregation or something lol. Anyway I wanna see if she went up or fell off that chart.

emi♡ 10th April 2009 10:28 PM

Yep, just a bit lol

Well I think that's how it's going to come off to Americans anyway...who are used to "good singers" being like...Leona Lewis, and Kelly Clarkson or whatever.

They aren't really used to the style that Asian singers sing in.

ストロボ・EdGE 10th April 2009 10:44 PM

I was kind of assuming that FYI would be the next single, she also sung it at the CBS live but anyway.

Umm, you know that Britney left the stage because people were smoking pot right in front of her and it was clouding up the entire stage, right? She didn't stomp off at all, read the reports.

I'm not sure what they are smoking but agreed. I'm pretty sure ur not allowed to smoke in the public areas anyways >_> especially when a lot of these areas are poorly ventillated. And plus she continued the show anyways, but I still think swearing was unnecessary XD. Its not like she stopped it and left, I'm sure she did it for a reason. Actually... how many countries use the system of release couples of singles first before releasing an album? I really think Japan's the only (bigger) country in Asia doing that way. I know Taiwan and HK don't release singles (and probly Korea as well), but usually the artists promote one new song (or two), then they release the album, then continue to plug more songs on the radio charts.

And UK and US have the same system. So in the end I dun really know if Japan system is actually the "interesting" one. Logically I think Japan system seems cooler because you get chances to listen to couple of songs to determine if the upcoming album suits your taste. Most importantly, I really love the cd cover arts in Japan. They're so attractive compared to those dull US/UK covers :P.

KarenPang 11th April 2009 10:47 AM

frankly I prefer the way Japanese artistes release their material .

Single/s & then album . It's rare for you to see recut singles being issued in Japan's context unlike in other parts of the world & that should be the way .

It kinda defeats the whole purpose of releasing your album & then somemore singles to be released from the album after it's out ? it can be quite hard for people to keep up

hayasaki 11th April 2009 10:55 AM

Utada being compared to Mariah. In my own prespective, those people who compare her to Mariah are those who have known her just by now or recently. I mean, most of us known Utada for 10 years... we are sooooooo used to her voice... That's what i mean. XD

Minttulatte 11th April 2009 11:26 AM

In some songs Utada does sounds like Mariah to me even if I have listened to Hikki for 4 years or so now. :D Especially song On and On brought Mariah to my mind at once when Hikki started singing the song. I was wondering "Why's a Mariah Carey song on this album?" and I haven't gotten used to that voice yet but I still adore the album. And yes, I'm a Mariah fan too. :p I'm not very annoyed of the comprasion of both of these artists since they are both my favourities and I love their voices.

And about singles. Here in Finland artists releases 1-2 singles off one album before it's released. They also release re-cut singles that has no remixes in, which is sad. I, for example, prefer japanese way of releasing things. :)

I think the less enthusiastic guy@dirrtyremixes was more on the munny with what the album is more or less.

Yea, kinda makes me wonder whether they're thinking of the right songs when reviewing.

^Well....I think Beyonce would sound really nice singing the part that goes "BRING THAT BEAT BACK!" in dirty desire (the current voice is too high for my liking)...and maybe the part that goes "Girls, you know we've got it better than the guys..." in Poppin'...but other than that....i cant really see which song they're talking about either...=/

Polyrhythm 12th April 2009 04:49 AM

^Automatic (the album version OWNS the single version), Moving On without you, time will tell (love that song)...and yeah...I cant remember the rest but those were the standouts

It was kinda lame and really stupid (I didnt have Distance album so i skipped it and the Ultra Blue disc is bootleg). Automatic -Album Edit- and Never Let Go.
2 great songs from that album.
I personally didn't like much the rest.
