RULE During "Dragonball" in Theaters (USA)
I wasn't exactly sure where to post this thread, but since I wanted to tell people about how much exposure the song "Rule" gets in the Dragonball: Evolution movie, I decided to stick it here.
A piece of the instrumentation is played very near the beginning of the movie, when Goku is riding to school. When the movie ends, some credits burst onto the screen in explosions of fire featuring the most "important" roles, then a bonus scene plays, and then the full credits roll...it is at this point that an abridged version of "Rule" with vocals is played. The chances of Ayu getting any kind of exposure from this film in the US are so slim. I saw the movie tonight, ON OPENING NIGHT, and the audience consisted of me, my boyfriend, a guy by himself, and a family of four. THAT WAS IT! And every single one of them left the theater before the ending credits, so nobody else heard Ayu sing (it was pretty cool to hear her in a theater, though.) As for the movie, it was terrible, although I'm sure that surprises no one. I was a big DBZ fan back in the day, but I didn't care about any of the characters, and the story was total nonsense. There are some movies that are "so bad they're good", meaning they make you laugh or whatever, but this one was just boring and stupid. NOT worth $10! |
kevjumba is telling everyone not to watch this film..i think its workin
but screw what he said! i'm watchin it anyways -,- how much of "Rule" played during the credits? |
^who's kevjumba? lol
well i'm seeing it sunday night with some friends. i'm pretty sure it's not gonna be that great of a movie, but who knows? i'm just watching cause my friend wants to see it, and i want to hear ayu ;p |
I could have told you where to see the movie before it was in theaters ehe *internet* *coughs* I sucked ehe

lolz my colleagues told me it wasn't a great movie either, i didn't even bother to watch tt show anyway haha..
if it's anime-movie, then i'll goooooo..too bad it ain't haha.. |
^^ ahh i see. hmm~ well i'm hoping its good
|
well. yeah... hope it's good though
|
i just got back from the movie too....not that many people...maximum like 12?? I didnt stay for the rest of the credits cuz i thought rule wasnt gonna play cuz it didnt start playing when the credits started to roll like the japanese version. but yea horrible movie..jumped around way too much. the scenes dont go together at all.
|
it is bad bad bad bad
bad I mean real bad One of the worst movies I´ve seen xDD And Rule was abridged, but it still was cool to hear it... I waited until Ayu´s name appears on screen to leave, and she is like, at the end of the credits xD |
It was a horrible movie but my best friend and I made every single moment of the movie sexual, including the advertisements before the movie even started.
Not many were in the cinema, tho all of them survived to the last moment. I was like OMG my fav singer sings that song. :P |
^Oh yeah, it has a lot of sexual undertones!! Did you notice the wonderful method of learning provided by Chi-Chi?!! "Everytime you do it right, you can get a bit closer" xDDDD
|
yeah at this rate i doubt Ayu will get much promotion from this.
1. they don't play the song enough in the movie for anyone to care about it. 2. i doubt many people are going to see this movie anyway! :laugh |
I saw DBE in The Netherlands yesterday; and yes Rule was played.. 3 times actually.. 1 time instrumental part during the film's start; then a short instrumental (the first few beats) of Rule during the movie, but with different instruments; and the song with vocals at the credits. I taped the last one just for fun =)
Oh; and the movie. It's a nice movie for kids; but it's really not that good. But that's okay; at least the effects are nice :) |
I've heard mixed things about the movie... I'm sad to hear no one stayed long enough to hear Ayu's song ;_;
|
To bad the film hasn't even come to Denmark >.<
|
I saw it today. It was horrible, lol.
A really bad d-movie >_>' I heard Rule on the end credits, I was really disappointed ;_; I expected the full song (I jumped when I heard it on the beginning of the movie :D) but was short.. and omg some kids joked about her vibrato lol Am I the one who heard Rule.. a bit different from the original? Her voice sounds.. :/ meh. |
At the risk of becoming a complete DragonBall Z Evolution basher, the main character's hair was disgraceful. A good attempt at anime hair, but it looks ridiculous in real life XD
I heard the chorus of RULE in the cinema during an advert for it, but not much of it was played in U.K cinemas either in the showing of the actual film. ToT Sucks for Ayu fans! >o< |
In Spain a friend said me it wa splayed a bit at the begining and then it starts again in the last seconds of movie, the song keep sounding until the end of the first chorus while the credits. The lighs are still closed and nobody moves, then there's an extra scene and wht it finish the credit continue without Rule, and everybody goes out...
So, at least in my friend's cinema everybodu had to listen to Ayu XD I'm going tomorrow and I hope it will be the same as my friend... |
I am going some time soon... I will try tomorrow. Anyways, reading these posts is really saddening. The ONLY reason that I am going to this is to support Ayu. Really, that's it. I couldn't care less about this movie. Anyways, it'll still be cool to hear Ayu in the theaters.
|
If only more of Rule was played during the movie. I guess everyone blew it out of proportions that Ayu would get huge promotion with this movie. Only small instrumental sections and part at the credits that not many people probably wouldn't stay after for.
My friend is dragging me to see it because she wants someone to make fun of it with her, so I'm gonna go. Can't wait to hear some Ayu at least~ |
With the movie coming out in theaters, I've started to re-evaluate my initial decision that I wasn't gonna see it just because of ayu. Now I kinda want to, even though the movie obviously stinks and is gonna bomb at the box office.
The current IMDb movie rating is 3,1 out of 10 . . . But that was expected. |
^they are rating it high, heh
|
lol I personally didn't expect them to use the song at all during the movie...and since audiences RARELY stay for the credits, I didn't expect her to get much promotion at all...besides like...for all the behind the scenes people.
so...not really disappointed...but...meh. |
I believed 'Rule' awaken a lot of people asleep during the movie...
o_O |
Yeah, it wasn't really good at all and I barely even remember hearing Rule.
|
i thought Lacus posted this b4:P
|
I don't really want to see this movie, cause I knew it would turn out to be just bad.. lol
but I just need to hear Ayu in the theatres ;) |
Today my friends and I are going to watch this movie... we've been receiving terrible opinions from people who has seen the movie. We said we had to watch it to have our very own opinion, even if it ends up being rubbish...
But, some of us are going to support Ayu too. And to get to listen to Ayumi on the cinema will be really nice, I don't care much about the movie either, I love DB, but this movie.... I think it really sucked. Anyway, I'm watching it! *+D.N.A.+* |
I suppose to watch DB yesterday but all of my friends was watching a different one.
In other words, no one would join me. I felt really bad... I do hope, next Sunday, one of my friends will come with me. |
Quote:
"That we expected was the beginning of failure" Eh, I should have never expected DB: E to help her break into the international market. AT ALL. I even have Pokemon fans in serebii.net telling me that Rule was "trying too hard to be hardcore", omg I guess the song got tainted due to the horrendous movie. Now, I'm trying to decide if Kazuyoshi (omg finally, I spelled his name right!) or DB: E sucks more. |

*Sigh* I decided not to watch it, even though my plan was to stand up during the credits (If Rule was playing) and sing along.
|
Yeah! i've went today to see it... about the movie... really.. lot of LOL moments... but well.. I tried to put my mind in blank and imagine that never existed a manga called DB and that this is something new... to avoid comparations and so... But well.. What is improtant... As I said some post before rule instrumental is played just at the beggining when Goku is going to school with bike (then some guy squash the bike with his car XD) and music stops... and finnaly at the end, after Goku and Chinchin are in a LOL moment flying XD the title appears and then Rule starts.
It plays the first chorus, first verse and melody part, last chorus and uuuuuu yeaaaaaa yeaaaaaaa! part XD buuut.. well.. better if you see it right?? then you don't have to pay to go to see it... (yah... I've done a little act of piracy to record the first time I listen to an ayu song in the cinema! XD) Sorry.. my friend and I couldn't avoid singing a little.. xD TO SEE HOW SOUND RULE IN THE CINEMA (SPAIN): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6H0U_AvYXYs (sorry, someone knows how to put the youtube window here ^^U??) enjooy! :D |
^^ whoa, it sounds like they sped it up a little bit...
The movie came in at #8 here in the US. Most of the people I've talked to who've gone to see it say that the theaters were almost completely empty. hahaha |
Quote:
anyways, I dont noe anything about DB and I'm dragging lots of my friends to watch it! haha. I'm watching it for the awesome special effects and Rule. (but my friends still think I'm watchin it for ayu -,- ) |
The only reason to see this movie is if you want to never, ever want to run out of things to complain about with other DB fans. It's actually pretty fun discussing how horrendous it is. Quite similar to "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull", actually.
Oh, and to hear Ayu in a movie theater, I guess. Too bad the dang theater was EMPTY when I was there! So I just danced around like an idiot. |
They changed to U.S. version from the Overseas version...only the overseas version has the full version RIGHT @ the end...

kevjumba can be right about somethings. Like this movie being horrible.
If you're going to watch it for Ayu, don't do it. |
i just saw it tonight... and yeah it was pretty bad. there wasn't even 10 ppl in there, and 2 of them left after about 5 min. and everyone but the 4 of us left before the credits... no ayu exposure for anyone
|
i saw the movie yesterday.
i can't believe they cut up Rule so badly. like, i honestly swear they could've played at least another verse of the song because when they ended it, the credits were still rolling. it was two minutes of heaven for like, ninety minutes of torture, but it should've been three minutes. ugh. |
wow, they jipped ayu....
|
the best part was when we were buying our tickets and my boyfriend mumbled, "i can't believe i'm paying to see this". and the guy at the counter said "i can't believe it either".
OUCH. |
I would dearly like to say what I thought of DBE but I don't want to get banned.
|
^ lol. do you have a PG rated version of your opinion?
|
^ lol I'll try! xD
Well, as a generic Hollywood "action story" where the reluctant hero who can't master his abilities manages to do so at the last moment to save everyone goes, I guess it can't be faulted. But you can't just slap "DragonBall" onto a movie like that and expect it to be accepted by the community, or any random cinema-goer. As a DB fan, I know the story is very generic, so what made it work was the interesting characters. Goku in the books is too innocent and gullible, whereas Goku in the movie is some bland angsty teen who doesn't want to be "different". He does have 2 good moments - the part where he slicks his hair back and when he finally stands up for himself made good scenes. Chi-Chi and Bulma's actors should've been reversed. Bulma's actor looked way too old and her supposed intelligence didn't match her actions in the movie (She's smart enough to develop eht DBE but even though she saw a woman steal the DragonBall she almost shot Goku for being the thief? wat). Chi-Chi was kind of boring as well, flashing cleavage wasn't necessary and she added nothing to the movie except being a lust-object for Goku and Spoiler:
Same thing goes for the actors of Roshi and Gohan. I think Jackie Chan should have played both roles! xDD Then you could have seen two identical old men with different personalities. That would've been funny IMHO. :eyeroll: Don't get me started on Yamcha. His parents must've put really tight hats on him as a baby >_< Ewwwww. They kind of got his money-lust right but I think he's really dull in DB without the fear of women thing. Putting aside the looks of the cast in comparison, the story had next to no logical flow. I don't mind if they Spoiler:
I didn't go into DBE wanting to see a live-action version of episodes 1-13. I just wanted a story with continuity, interesting takes on established characters and good acting. I don't think we get any of those things with the movie....I'm a bit ashamed for Ayu's and Toriyama's names to be associated with it =| Actually, make that three good scenes for Goku. The part where he Spoiler:
On a side note. I was very creeped out by this one scene: When Bulma and Yamcha are walking down the spiral staircase in the latter half of the movie (right before the "almost kiss"......barf) on the upper level there's this one asian-looking dude standing there doing nothing and looking STRAIGHT INTO THE CAMERA. It was like he was looking into my soul or something. His face was like this: ¬_¬ but looking in the opposite direction....it was so creepy! |
Quote:
@ walking.proud Who is the person singing in your link xD And it really sounds different someway |
so sad that Rule wasn't featured that much >.<
|
But at least an AYU SONG WAS IN A US FLICK!
I think that really means something, don't you!? |
^ It was featured at the end of the credits. Which not many people will stay after for
and not many people would have gone to see DBE, so the chances of Ayu getting any promotion whatsoever in the US are slim |
Quote:
LOL that's hilarious. |
Quote:
I had a similar experience, felt so shamed going to see the film! But was so happy to hear Ayu at the end, and for me, everyone in the theatre stayed to see the extra scene and heard Rule! Yay!:love |
Quote:
Sorry to hear that Rule got so little time on the USA screenings. They play about half the song for the credits in Singapore, but i'm not really surprised for some reason. I didn't really expect the film editors would give much attention to a non-english song. |
Quote:
and I also notices that Rule was a bit different... but not about time, it was likeshe was singing with an upper note. Quote:
|
Wow, that sucks. I might change my mind about seeing it this Friday with my boyfriend then. I've been hearing nothing but bad reviews. Anyways, my boyfriend likes to leave right when the actual movie ends, he doesn't like to stay for credits. He might get mad at me if I want to stay >_<
|
I concur with this 100% and have the very same complaints as you. I saw it on opening night too. Me, and the two people I went with, were the only ones in the theater to hear Ayu at the very end. UGH.
|
Ugh, I might literally go to see the film JUST for Rule :/
|
I don't watch it yet! I really want to watch it. But I don't have any chances to go to the cinema. I don't really want to watch it but I want to hear Ayu's song played in the cinema and everybody hears it. I want they to know how awesome is Ayu's song. But my friend said that the song not really 'in' the movie. It's so sad to hear that.
|
in Poland Rule is playing along with the first credits x3 later is bonus scene and later full credits with (i suppose) dragonball instrumental... i was so happy when i heard it xD friends couldn't bring me calm xDDD
|
omg i watched DBE today! the movie was actually really good!
idc what other ppl say, but this movie is AWESOME!!!! :luv2 |
^For me, it's essentially just a fun movie to relax and enjoy to. I watched it after Tale of Despereaux, and DBE is tons better. At least it didn't bore me. It's really entertaining. Just don't expect Nobel-worthy dialogue.
|
I haven´t watched the film yet... people say it´s a piece of ********it... Maybe I will go to the cinema next week and I will tell you later guys...
|
I'm refusing to see it...
I can't bear to listen to otaku nerds bashing my dear Ayu's song because they're mad about the crappy movie... |
amazing...yesterday I went to the cinema and i saw the final part of Dragon Ball movie...I listened to Rule in dolby surround in Italy!! It has been a great emotion, really.
|
I just want to watch DBE to hear AYUMI!!!
And thats it...but since i need to save money I guess i'm not going to. 8PP |
Haha well the song was literally the best thing of the movie
OMG they totally killed DBZ Only question: WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?!!?:shakehead |
